[Solved] X11 has purple tint when using catalyst-test drivers

Hey guys, so I turned the TV on for my HTPC last night hoping to watch some anime. But when it turned on the screen had a purple tint! I tried to do some debugging over SSH from my phone while in bed, but decided to just go to sleep instead.
Tonight I narrowed down the problem a bit, it's certainly related to the catalyst drivers (No problems when using xf86-video-ati).
I'm noticing warnings from various programs that look like
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
Taking a screenshot using `scrot` and viewing it the screen looks fine..

I suspected that it might have been a package upgrade, but downgrading packages that looked like they might have been the problem didn't solve anything.
Any ideas?
Edit: Just tried with xorg1.13 with Catalyst 13.4 (stable).. same problem.
Edit 2: After starting and then stopping X this problem happens in the framebuffer too.. hmmm (It doesn't happen during boot time or during initial login, it's not a bad cable connection!)
Edit 3: The problem does not occur when using the VGA d-sub output, only when using the HDMI output

This was fixed by changing the "Pixel Format" in the catalyst control center to "RGB (Full RGB)".. Somehow it got changed to "YcBcr".
I removed the /etc/ati/amdpcsdb file that the fglrx driver likes to put settings in and did a fresh reinstall of catalyst-test and everything looks good now. Really no idea how the pixel profile got changed. Also noticed that my resolution was much lower than it should have been (which for some reason doesn't affect XBMC which runs in native resolution no matter what?), but that was an easy fix of adding Mode "1920x1080" to my Display section in xorg.

System freeze when using catalyst driver and xorg 1.16

As the title says, my computer freezes up when using the catalyst drivers. This happens even when I haven't run startx (happens even when I ssh). Typically I would check my syslog after a crash, right? However, I don't see a syslog in /var/log. How would I go about troubleshooting this?

Okay I discovered journalctl . I ran journalctl --since=today and the point in time at which my computer froze and had to be rebooted was blank. Here is the relevant part of the log...

First of all - I'm AMD APU user but I've not used Catalyst for a long time, then please be carefull with my opinion. When we can read on Release note, the latest Catalyst driver works with:
- Xorg/Xserver 7.4 and above (up to 1.16)
- Linux kernel 2.6 or above (up to 3.17)
- glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
- POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support is required for 3D applications
see: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article … Notes.aspx but on AUR we can read, that this driver is for linux < 3.19 (then kernel 3.18 is supported). This is possible because lano1106_fglrx-13.8_proc.patch but, of course, it's not official, upstream patch. From the other hand, I know that Ubuntu's users has seriously problem with Catalyst on Xorg 1.16.

928 Camera - Yellowish Tint When Using Flash

I find that when I take pictues in lower light situations and use the flash there is a distinct yellowish tint to the picture. I have had better results not using the flash at all. Kind of defeats the purpose of the flash. The pictures were taken using the auto settings. Anyone else having this issue or know if there is a resolution or a way to correct this problem?

I have the new Nokia 1020 from AT&T. Every time I take a flash picture, the picture white balance is WAY off, with the photo having a yellow tint. I called Nokia and they recommended returning the phone for a new one, but the new one has the same problem. I also see several people complaining about this on the web.
Is a solution coming? Else, I will have to return the phone, I bought it for the camera, which is defective when using the flash.

LCD as second screen has purple tint!! Help!!

Hello all,
I have just connected a 19" LCD screen to my iBook 14" through the DVI adapter that came with my mac. While the iBook has instantaneously mirrored my desktop, the LCD screen has a heavy purple tint on it. The screen on my iBook is still fine but the LCD screen is unworkable. Everything appears on it, its just heavily purple-ised. Does anyone know why this is, and what I can do about it?

Sorry, my mistake, the LCD screen I am using as a second screen is 17" not 19". I Have tried on another screen (but the same model) so I am sure the problem is with the iBook. I don't really see why the iBook underpowering the external screen would make it turn purple. Let me just clarify, the screen is displaying everything crystal clearly, the only problem is that there is a purple hue or tint over everything. So for example the colour white isn't white on the second screen but purple.

I use MAC OSX Lion 10.7.5 which has become unstable when using Internet and Pages. Any ideas?

When using word, pages or email the cursor jumps around all over the document placing the typed information anywhere!

Windows 7 VM has DNS Problem When Using Wireless

Hello All,
I've been fighting this virtual machine networking problem for over a week now. If anyone has a well-informed suggestion (not a guess) I would appreciate hearing about it.
Here's the problem in a nutshell and then I'll give more details: I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) as my primary (i.e., host) OS. I'm running Windows 7 Home Professional (32 bit) as the guest OS in "Windows Virtual PC" (note that this is *not* the same as "Virtual PC 2007"). If I configure the VM to use my host's wired Ethernet connection, the guest OS can always see the machines on my local network and can always reach the Internet just fine. On the other hand, if I configure the VM to use only my host's wireless connection then the guest OS can still see machines on my local network but CANNOT reach the Internet, except very intermittently (e.g., for maybe 1-2 minutes every hour or so).
I've tried to anticipate the questions you might ask so here is some additional information:
The computer is a Lenovo W500 laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. The wireless network adapter is an "Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN".
My Internet connection is via AT&T DSL using a wire2 wireless modem/router.
I have all the updates from Microsoft and Lenovo for this machine. It is 100% up to date with the latest patches and drivers.
I'm running the 64-bit version (or at least I used the 64 bit installer) of "Windows Virtual PC" which I downloaded from this link.
I am *not* running and I did not download "XP Mode".
When the guest OS loses it's connection to the Internet the following message appears in the Windows Event Log:
"Name resolution for the name address.yahoo.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."
I am able to ping an external machines outside my network but only if I use the IP address. If I specify the host name it cannot be resolved.
ARE YOU GETTING THE IMPRRESSION THIS IS A DNS PROBLEM??? It looks like I do not have access to a DNS when using the host's wireless connection.
On the host OS, the "Virtual PC Network Filter Driver" *IS* installed and selected under my "Wireless Network Connection Properties" settings.
Below are the results of running ipconfig on the guest OS and then the host OS. Note that I am able to ping 192.168.1.254 from the host OS but not from the guest OS. I think this is the crux of the problem.

I am not very familiar wth Microsoft Security Essentials, but believe that it just makes use of the existing Windows Firewall which is present with the operating system.
To me it is odd that the guest OS reports 192.168.1.254 as the IP address for its gateway and DHCP server yet it cannot access them when pinged. Let's try pinging from host to guest (and vice-versa) and see what happens:
From the host OS at 192.168.1.78, try pinging the guest OS at 192.168.1.75.
Then, from the guest OS at 192.168.1.75, trying ping the host OS at 192.168.1.78.
Is each operating system able to ping each other?

Graphical errors when using Catalyst

I have trouble with using the proprietary driver for my AMD RADEON HD 6970 gpu. After following instructions on the wiki, everything runs reasonably well, except:
- Inside my DE, the wallpaper seems to be missing in various occasions. For example, it happens when using a file manager for the desktop and looking at GNOME's activities overview or cinnamon's expo view.
- Taking screenshots (tried multiple tools) is not possible. Instead of the actual screen, it seems to record a black screen or the background of my DM.
- The display manager background pops up every now and then when the screen flashes. This in principal is no big deal, but because of the issues I'm having with screenshots I'm thinking it's related.
So far I have tried installing catalyst from the community repo, the unofficial repo and the AUR. The problem does not seem to be related to any of the ccc panel settings. I have also compared to Ubuntu-based distros which do not seem to have the problem. The only difference I spot is the lack of a xorg.conf file for those, but not using one seems not to be possible for Arch. I lack the knowledge to further look into that.
I have spent a few days on this and would really appreciate any help. Thank you!

XY graph has 'negative colors' when used on PC with XP

I built an application with windows 2000. I have distributed it. One customer using XP has found that when the XY graph begins to plot the background and gridline colors swap from black to white and visa versa. We have tried our program on an XP machine here, and can not replicate the problem

This sounds like an issue with the graphics driver on that XP machine. I've seen all kind of weird issues due to driver bugs.
Is this an older video card? See if there is a new driver available for XP. They might also want to try other display settings e.g. 32bit color, 24bit color, 16bit color.
Also try to temporarily reduce the graphics acceleration (display control panel..settings..advanced..troubleshooting) by a click or two. Any improvement?

"The task sequence has been suspended" when using a conditional task sequence

I'm getting the dreaded "The task sequence has been suspended. LiteTouch has encountered and Environment Error (Boot into WinPE!)" when using a conditional task sequence.
I've created a "Install Application" task right before the "Restart Computer" in the postinstall phase. The task installs a Dell Bios update. I've added two WMI conditions on the task, to match it with the correct model and to check that the
bios not current. This works very well, except for a strange issue. When the computer reboots into WinPE, I get the error above. The message stays for about 30 second and then disappears. After that the computer reboots into Windows
7, runs the Bios Update and throws up a similar message but with the addition of Use the desktop shortcut to resume. (however there is no shortcut). The message disappears after a while and the process stops there. If I reboot
manually, the installation will continue and finish without any error. It's as if a LTIsuspend.wsf was inserted.
Does anyone have any clue what's happening?

Thanks for the answers, but I finally figured it out. The problem was due to where I had inserted it during the deployment sequence. The bios update task sequence was attempting to run in WinPE. I moved the sequence to the state restore
section and now it's working perfectly. I was trying to run the update earlier during the installation sequence, as was recommened by Dell, but that doesn't appear to be feasible. This will have to do.

Voicemail showing as "has stopped working" when using MRA & SSO via Expressway 8.5.1

Hello Everyone,
I have my Mac connected to our CallManager via Expressway 8.5.1 MRA using SAML SSO using Jabber Version 10.6.0 (202336).
Our CallManager, IM&P and Unity Connection Servers are all 10.5.2
My issue is that Voicemail shows as "has stopped working". It does not do this for SSO users who are not using MRA.
If I disable SSO it works fine (username/password on Jabber starup and same username/password on Voicemail login page once connected)
I have not yet tested if Jabber for Windows is affected when using MRA via Expressway.
UPDATE: This issue affects Jabber for iOS as well with the same error
I have a Problem Report from the machine if required.
Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

Is it just me? I tried changing all the color settings in yaourtrc but I can only "fix" it by disabling color entirely.

It looks like it's impossible to get italics working in screen. I made a patch for yaourt-git to get rid of the problem, though this is really a pretty crude hack that simply disables italics when yaourt is used inside screen:

[SOLVED] NetworkManager ignores MTU size when using PPTP

I'm using PPTP to connect to my working network.
I've configured connection to use with pon/poff and it works well, but I want to use NetworkManager to manage all connections.
I created VPN PPTP connection. But after successful authentification NM drops connection with next message:
pptp[18526]: nm-pptp-service-18522 warn[decaps_gre:pptp_gre.c:331]: short read (-1): Message too long
This message usually means that MTU in PPTP connection is too large.
I've changed next options in /etc/ppp/options
mtu 1000
mru 1000
like values in the working pptp connection when using pon/poff.
Then I run
watch ip link show
and I noticed that ppp0 was created with MTU=996 (it's great!) but then MTU size was changed to 1400 (bad) and connection dropped.
So I think it's NM's fault. Do you have any ideas how to resolve this issue?

[SOLVED] - Thunderbird constantly crashing, especially when using Add Ons Manager, but sometimes just when the program has been sitting open.

Hello,
I was using Thunderbird earlier today when the power went out in my neighborhood. Since the power has been restored Thunderbird has been crashing early and often. I can't get the program to open unless I rename or delete the "extensions" folder in ~\Library\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile Name>
It will crash immediately if I go to Tools--> Addons. Eventually it will just crash from just sitting open in the background. I've attached the crash report below. I'm on OSX 10.10.1
I've tried deleting and reinstalling Thunderbird (both the current and previous version)
I've tried repairing permissions
I've tried using Time Machine to restore the entire Profiles folder from before the power outage.
Any suggestions? I've been using Thunderbird for years and I'm quite comfortable with it, but might have to switch to Postbox if I can't fix this.

Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
