[SOLVED] xfce upgrade 4.11 -- 4.12 : error loading libxfce4util.so.6

Hi guys,
I upgraded from xfce 4.11 (xfce4-*-devel packages) to xfce 4.12 today, but I have the following error with a bunch of different xfce4 apps (including xfdesktop):
# xfce4-settings-manager
xfce4-settings-manager: error while loading shared libraries: libxfce4util.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I tried downgrading extra/libxfce4util 4.12.1-1 to aur/libxfce4util-devel 4.11.0-1 but then the error says libxfce4util.so.7 cannot be found.
Using ldd I found that the applications depend on both libxfce4util.so.6 and  libxfce4util.so.7
ldd $(which xfce4-appfinder) | grep -i xfce4
libxfce4ui-1.so.0 => /usr/lib/libxfce4ui-1.so.0 (0x00007f681fa05000)
libxfce4util.so.7 => /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.7 (0x00007f681ecd8000)
libxfce4util.so.6 => not found
I figure I have some package somewhere that didn't upgrade properly or something. Here's the list of xfce packages I have installed:
# pacman -Q | egrep xfce\|xfw\|xfd
elementary-xfce-icons 0.5-3
gtk-xfce-engine 2.10.1-1

xfdesktop 4.12.0-1
xfwm4 4.12.0-1
xfwm4-themes 4.10.0-2
zukitwo-colors-xfwm4 0.1-1
My current workaround, which seems sloppy but works just fine, was to create a symbolic link
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.7 /usr/lib/libxfce4util.so.6
Any ideas?

Walter

I know how AUR works, I do have some packages from AUR, I use aura to retrieve, build and install them. AFAIK pacman -Qm lists those packages. Can please be more verbose? I have no idea where are you heading with those questions and it makes less willing to answer them. xfdesktop and xfce4-panel (at least) are broken, and they are in Arch's extra repo, they're not from AUR. Here, look at this, I got the URL of the package from https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr … xfdesktop/ (Download from mirror link)

Is what shows up after I install something with Yaourt. The weird thing is it only shows packages I've recently installed (flashplugin from [testin], picasa from AUR and the fonts from AUR). Doesn't make sense because I don't think it upgraded pacman or anything when I upgraded to [testing]. BTW everything still installs fine, just that's pretty annoying still.
EDIT: IN attempt to reinstall yaourt, I get this, potentially a permissions problem?

I'll try root and see if it helps things out.
And no problems as root...why are the permissions defaulting to the wrong thing?
Also, every thing I try, pacman always sets the permissions wrong (tried as root, with youart, wihout it, with sudo, etc). I gotta run chmod -R 755 /usr/local/pacman/local every time to fix it, why isn't it setting it right by default?
EDIT: Looks like a bug to me, so I bugreported it http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12187

Boot with the failsafe image, which should have all possible modules included. All that needs to be done during this process is to load the modules needed to initiate the hard disk controller and then read from the filesystem.
Unfortunately, that is not what you're facing. It looks to me like hardware incompatibility, possibly the cpufreq module. Paste your lspci, rc.conf and mkinitcpio.conf and hope for further assistance. It will also be good if you could include the output of mkinitcpio -p kernel26 and mkinitcpio -vp kernel26 (pastebin this one; it'll be very long).

    Arch64
Just ran a full upgrade ( -Syu).

After upgrading, the LVM system will not load,  What I'm getting after GRUB is :

Well, up till this morning there WAS one off course a everything was booting OK.
    Edit :
Problem is that I haven't added "lvm2" hook to mkinitcpio.conf.
Now that I have added it I understand that I have to run "mkinitcpio -p linux" in /boot to regenerate the kernel.
Problem is - how to do it ?
I've tried booting with Arch install media, then mounted my original /boot.
Entered it and ran "mkinitcpio -p linux"
    What I'm getting is :
Preset linux does not exist. Exiting
And of course I can't  mount my original root as it is inside the said LVM :-(
    Ideas any1 ?
    Thanks

  • App upgrade or download gives me error.

I have a Blackberry 8520 Curve, it worked fine for me for more than a year now.
But now everything sucks because no app works anymore after i download or upgrade.
I get a "App verify error" on all the apps i've upgraded and/or downloaded.
Firstly i recieved the upgrade for the facebook app, so i did the upgrade, and now, well, the icon doesnt exist on my phone, i tried everything, from device wipe to rebooting countless times..
Now for another eg. My whatsapp gives me the following message on screen after i click on it to open:
[ ERROR STARTING WHATSAPP:ERROR LOADING MODULE 'WHATSAPP' VERIFY ERROR. ]
(just right click and open in new tab if it doesn't show)
It does this with most of my apps.
How do i fix this? because installing and deleting and rebooting and even device wipe doesn't solve this..

  • [Solved] Error loading operating system (USB install, unetbootin)

    Hi!
I was planning on reinstalling Arch on my netbook (Asus EEE T91MT), because I messed it up a bit too far.
It still boots fine and I can log in on the console, but I can not move the mouse in xserver/xfce, wifi stopped working, and I have various other problems and errors when running commands, so I figured a reinstall would be easier.
Now I followed the same steps as last time: put arch x86 netinstall on an empty 2GB FAT32 USB stick, using the Unetbootin tool.
But when I boot from USB (press escape during boot, select the USB drive instead of SSD, press enter), it just gives me a black screen with the text:
    Error loading operating system
When I look on the USB stick, it looks very normal, like an arch install medium usually looks.
Thanks for any tips in advance!

    Ah, thanks a lot!
I'll be more careful in trusting tools like unetbootin. It even clearly says on the website "arch up to 2010.05"...
Gonna try one of the alternative methods.

Edit: Thinking about it, this could quite well be the famous "5184 hours" bug on micron SSDs. The 3624 seconds until failure basically scream for it being that issue. I'll do a firmware update after I have performed a backup and see if that helps.

The computer is a thinkpad T410i, with this ATA controller:
    » lspci |grep ATA
00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 06)
    and this hard drive:
    # smartctl -a /dev/sda |grep Model
    Model Family: Crucial/Micron RealSSD m4/C400
    Device Model: M4-CT128M4SSD2
Google and the error message suggest this is related to errors in the communication between the SATA controller and the hard drive. Usually things like "try another SATA cable" or "try a better power supply" are suggested, so I tried removing and re-inserting the drive into the slot; that didn't help though. What could I do now? I guess swapping the SATA cable or trying a better power supply is out of question
The disk itself seems fine to me, here's the SMART report:

Looks like the firmware update solved it.

    Hello,
I come to update the iTunes software it shows me an error 20 How do I solve this After I was once an error 13 appears.
And that's just Mac Air. I would like to get an answer because it annoys me that it happens ...!
    Nimrod

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

  • [SOLVED] Xfce 4.12 desktop background problem

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with Xfce 4.12 desktop background. After pc rebooting I see distorted desktop background. If I change the desktop wallpaper, the background becomes normal. The same thing happens when reloading xfdesktop, the background becomes normal.

Problem solved. Problem was with Linux kernel and Intel graphics card. On boot I was getting this error : [drm:intel_set_cpu_fifo_underrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR* uncleared fifo underrun on pipe A
I downgraded kernel to version 3.14.6-1, now xfce desktop looks OK and no errors during boot.

  • Undocumented problem solved with 16-bit pcmcia and irq error

I am having the exact same problem as described in the following post:
"Undocumented problem solved with 16-bit pcmcia and irq error."
"I'm using a DAQ Card (AI-16E-4), which didn't work properly in MAX. MAX complained that the card didn't respond to an interrupt request.
I've had this issue for a while, but dropped it, since NI support told me nothing could be done about it. Meanwhile, a seemingly unrelated problem with a wireless pcmcia network card arose. Cisco had no clue what was wrong with their card either, but I found Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q327947. It seems that Win2k (they claim SP3 and up) disables ISA to PCI routing, which is what causes this problem.
    To fix it, open regedit
    and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters"
edit or create the DWORD value "DisableIsaToPciRouting" and set the value data to 0.
See Microsoft's article for further details: http://support.microsoft.com/default. aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327947"
The difference is that I am using WinXP and the Regedit fix does not solve the problem. Does anybody know how he was able to continue to use the card before he solved the problem? The card works fine in MAX, but errors out in LabVIEW.

    Hey Willy,
Here some additional suggestions that have corrected some PCMCIA difficulties in the past besides the registry edit you suggested.
    1. General Troubleshooting to Verify Correct Hardware and Software Installation
Uninstall the PC Card hardware through Device Manager
Remove the PC Card from the laptop
    Uninstall the NI-DAQ software
Follow the normal installation instructions (the most important step to remember for Plug-n-Play Operating Systems is to install the software first)
Try the latest service packs for Win 2000 or Win XP
Try the PC Card in a different laptop
Try a different slot in the laptop. On certain laptops PC Cards have been successfully installed in the top PCMCIA slot instead of the bottom.
    2. Additional Troubleshootin
g for PC Cards that Return IRQ Conflicts
    For E-Series DAQCards:
Update to NI-DAQ 6.9.3 first and then update NI-PAL to version 1.6.1 (included exe file).
Download the attached NI-PAL (ni-cdu1610.exe), and run the installer. When receiving the error "The device is not responding to the first IRQ Level" in Measurement and Automation Explorer, try this method of upgrading NI-PAL
    3. Additional Troubleshooting Steps
Try disabling the 3COM adapter, and any other extraneous (for now) devices like any built in serial and parallel ports. The best way to do this is probably to disable them in the BIOS. If the PCMCIA card works properly then try to reconfigure disabled devices one at a time.
Make sure the latest BIOS is installed.
Check for any unusual PCMCIA drivers or other software that might interfere with the PCMCIA driver.
    I hope this helps.

  • [SOLVED] After upgrade gdm and Gnome don't work.

    Hi,
after I did an upgrade I had some ldconfig: errors and fixed them all using pkgfile and reinstallation of quite some packages.
    But now starting gdm with
    # systemctl start gdm
only leads to a black screen with a cross shaped cursor I can move. Nothing more.
Xorg works -- I'm writing this post from KDE.
I reinstalled gnome and gnome-extra. Still no success.
    System is up to date.
Hopefully my logs will help, I have no idea what to do. Thanks for any help. :)

    Finally managed fixed it.
libcanberra-pulse from [extra] was broken. I reinstalled it with --force.
Likely that came with the recent pulseaudio upgrade.

  • After upgrade to 4.1 from 3.2, admin logon page error with "done error load

    Hello all,
Just upgraded 3.2 to 4.1. ran @apexins.sql sysaux sysaux temp /i/. Installation was successful and upgrade completed with no errors. When trying to log on to admin page, url changes to admin workarea but with IE we get "done error loading pages" and logon screen doesn't appear. All objects are compiled, accounts are unlocked and valid. Same thing happens when attempting to logon to the applicaiton. Any help would be appreciated. Open SR with oracle support, but no reply since yesterday.

Hi user12128153 (a real name would be nice),
    a few questions for you.
Do you experience the same errors with firefox? If so install firebug (if you don't have it already) and see if the errors have to do with missing css etc.
What application server do you use, OHS/Apex Listener etc?

    Hi Mathew,
Please check if your system has the ABAP program "RMCEXCHK" as per OSS Note  no. 1083709.
Once you run this program, it exactly would let you know what are the areas which are causing the issues. Based on that you can empty out the LIS Set up tables.
Also, can you please check the update program for LIS has emptied out the entries in SMQ1.
    Regards,
    Anil
