[Solved] Xfce4: windows stopped remembering their position

I made an update yesterday and since then all my programs stopped remembering their window position. Sonata for example was positioned at x=360, y=0, but now whenever I close Sonata the position gets reset to 0, 0 (upper left corner).
Any ideas what's wrong?

Not an Xfce problem, I'm using gnome with openbox and I get the same behavior since the update.
If I'm not mistaken it only happens with applications that have a system tray icon.
Hide Pidgin's buddy list in tray and then open it up again and the window forgets its previous position, same with Sonata.
My pacman log, it all started after this:

  • How to save files in the filesystem and remember their position?

This is a fairly novice question. I'm writing a Java desktop application which executed from the jar (actually a jnlp) will first run a setup creating some files in a directory of user choice.
When the application runs, it'll requires access to those files. However, if they were not saved in the user home directory, how could the application know where they are located? I hope the problem is clear enough. I cannot permanently save the user choice of location at setup time other than in the user home directory, but then I'd rather just save the files there. The problem is that in my case the user has no writing permissions to the user directory.

I'll need to look closer at your demo and the API. However from what you suggest it seems my application could still run in the sandbox (without being signed) and access the database without bothering the user (if he chooses always allow the first time). True? No. The PS can be accessed sand-boxed, so you can get the path to the DB in a sandboxed app., but the DB itself will require all-permissions to access. (Actually there are some pure Java DBs that can be launched from sand-boxed code, from classes on the run-time classpath, and so long as the app. does not need to change the data - that would be OK.)
It is true that the JNLP API provides sand-boxed access to the local file system, but it does so through a FileContents object, a strictly limited type of File that is not usable in exchange for a method that accepts (for e.g.) a File or URL.
If so, I still have a concern: the application also needs to store an image in a folder the user can reach. Writes to the image occur frequently. So using just the PersistService (as in ur demo) wouldn't do since it would be cached somewhere not chosen by the user (and hardly reachable anyway).
I could use the ExtensionInstallerService to store along the db this image in the same path, and then write to it in the same way as I do with the db. However, will I need to offer a JFileChooser twice, once for each file,.. I don't understand why. The EIS determines the path for the DB using a JFileChooser, then stores it in the PS. The app. gets the path to the DB and image folder, from the PS.
If they are to be stored in the same path, why is there a need to show 2 file choosers?

  • Remembering app positions for single/dual monitor setups?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum--I'm not sure if this is Mac OS or application specific.
I'm running Mac OS 10.5.6. When I plug in the external monitor to my MacBook Pro, I setup Firefox and Entourage on my notebook monitor and Photoshop on the external. I also move the Apple menu bar to the external (since PS is my main app I like having the menu bar close by). Photoshop doesn't present a problem because I'm able to switch the layout for different workspaces (laptop alone or laptop and external), but I find that Firefox and Entourage don't remember their positions.
For example, my current setup is dual monitors as mentioned above. When I get home and power up the notebook, I'll launch all the same apps. Firefox is just barely within view hanging off the left side of the screen so I'll grab the window and drag it over so I can access the green button (not sure what this is called). Entourage displays just fine. When I get back to work the next day and plug in the external, Firefox displays on the external with the window sized to fit the notebook monitor) and I'll just drag it over. Entourage loads into the external as maximized and I'll drag it over and click the green button.
Is it possible for the apps to remember their positions depending on whether it's just the notebook or if I've connected an external monitor? Thanks in advance!

Guess it's in the right place now.
Unfortunately, I don't believe there's a way to do what you want.

  • Could somebody please tell me how to get audiobooks to have their positions remembered?

could somebody please tell me how to get audiobooks to have their positions remembered?
    please.

    Hey john cummin1,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines audiobooks playback on iPod shuffle:
iPod shuffle: Playing audiobooks and podcasts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1831
    Bookmarks
iPod shuffle allows you to bookmark audiobooks purchased from Audible.com (files with a .aa extension) and the iTunes Store (files with a .M4B extension). If you stop or pause one of these spoken word files, iPod shuffle will automatically bookmark that spot. The next time you play that file, it will start playing from the bookmarked spot.
Bookmarks sync to and from iTunes, meaning you can listen to an audiobook on iPod shuffle or in iTunes from where you last stopped listening. The bookmarked spot that is further along, whether in iPod shuffle or iTunes, becomes the effective bookmark.
To force iTunes to set the bookmark, play an audiobook in iTunes, play another song in iTunes, and then update iPod shuffle.
Bookmarks are not available for audiobooks or spoken word files in any other file format (such as MP3) than the two formats mentioned.
    Chapter Marks
Some audiobooks feature chapter marks that allow you to navigate through chapters while listening in iTunes. iPod shuffle (3rd generation) allows you to navigate through an audiobook using these chapter marks.  Simply select the playlist that iPod shuffle creates for the specific audiobook you'd like to listen to and while listening, double-click the Center button to go to the next chapter or triple-click the Center button (within 6 seconds of the start of the chapter) to go to the previous chapter. See HT3458 for additional controls using the remote. iPod shuffle (1st and 2nd generation) does not support chapter marks.
Note: Chapter marks will be ignored if the audiobook playing is in a mixed playlist that you created (such as one that contains other songs or podcasts).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Blue Dot, and stop remembering position?

    I have 2 questions-
1st, does anyone know why there is a blue dot next to some of my iPhone's videos/movies?
2nd, some people are having issues with not remembering playhead position, but I'd like to know, is there any way to turn OFF remembering playhead position? I'd like my video/ movies to play from the beginning, no matter where I left off last time I played them.
    Thanks in advance.

To make a particular video forget playback position, right click or control click on the video and choose get info.
Click on the options tab, and there is a check box to remember playback position. Uncheck and click ok.
To make a selection of songs forget playback position, click on the top video and hold down the shift key and click on the las video. This will highlight everything in-between.
Now you can right click or control click on the selection and choose get info.
A different window will come up, but there is a drop down at the bottom for remembering playback position.

  • Sub panels are forgetting their position

I have some code which I am using to show "components" on a "board". The components are each JPanels which will repaint themselves after they have been placed on the "board". I've created the "board" as a JPanel also and use it to position all the components within itself.
This is all working really really well and I am very happy with it (though I do want to make some changes to the effeciency of all this in the future). The problem I am having is that whenever I resize (or update) the window all my "components" lose their position. Example code is below (this is an older version, the new version is much bigger with lots of other code in it).

Hy, here the code that solves your problem, look it carefully.
I have deleted some lines that was not important for your problem; now clocks stays
    where you put it.
The frame will show empty, click mouse to place the clock.
Hope that might help you, ask me is something is not clear,

  • Is it possible to remember the position of the plugins

    Hello
Is it possible to remember the position of the plugins in STP? If I hide the application or add a new effect, the plugins reset their position..
    thx a lot!

Came here today seeking the answer to the same question and accidentally discovered that if you leave all the plugin folders open when your previewing the presets, the window will stay parked on the last one you previewed or used. Intuitively, I guess you, like me, were closing the folders in the plugin window you weren't using and this was causing the plugin to reset to "first position," as it were, when you hit apply. This has driven me nuts for years, lol. I hope this helps.

  • How to make Nokia Suite remember the position and ...

how to make Nokia Suite remember the position and the size i set it?
because everytime i start it, it defaults in the middle of the screen and in the smallest possible size.
    Nokia Suite 3.3.86
    Windows Vista
    Greece Nokia X6 RM-559 v40.0.002

Again, are you talking about genuine Nokia firmware, not any of some 3rd-party customised versions?
For officially released firmware, you may force Nokia Suite to reinstall even if your firmware is already up to date. This feature might be missed in its GUI as its link is "hidden" in the prompt message, not on a button or highlighted with underscore. Try Nokia Suite, once the phone is connected, click the icon of Software Update on the top, then click the word "reinstall" in the prompted message.

  • Remembering Playback Position

On a Mac, I can select all of the audio files in a particular playlist and edit all of them with the Command+I function. This opens the Multiple Item Information panel and I then select the Options tab where I can select "Remember Position". This allows me to stop the playlist and start again later from where I left off. Is there a Windows option that will generate the same effect? If so, how do I do it?

Greetings. Yes, same thing. Cntrl+I brings up Get Info > Option Tab > Remember Playback Position.

  • ITunes forgetting "Remember Last Position" setting

    Hi, first post
Have a problem with iTunes that's only started happening recently. I have put some audiobooks into iTunes, selected them all, right click, Get Info, and tick "Remember Last Position" and "Skip When Shuffling". Click OK, then if I immediately go back into "Get Info" and look again, they've gone back to their default position of not remembering, and not skipping when shuffling.
If I choose an individual file and try to do the same, those two options are greyed out and can't be changed....which is odd.
Am I doing something wrong, or does it sound like a bug?
    Thanks in advance

Those 2 settings are stored in a file named iTunes Library.itl, I'm pretty sure, instead of the actual content file tags.
I suspect your Win 7 permissions aren't allowing itunes to change it, somehow. Which is really weird, if you can still add music.
When things are grayed out in the Info screen, it usually comes down to windows permissions. Even if you are the only user and an admin account.
Make sure you have *full control* and ownership of that file. Here is quick lesson with screenshots on changing permissions, whether you want delete it, or in your case, modify it.

Remember to restart itunes after changing any permissions, so it will read the new settings.
If it still doesn't let you make changes, try temporarily turning off UAC.

  • Ipad stopped remembering passwords

Ipad stopped remembering passwords.  I just updated and now it will not remember usernames or passwords. I verified the safari setting to remember passwords is on.  Found several other links complaining about this, but no fix. Is this a ML issue or Safari?

I'm having this problem as well. It seems like it was a more recent firefox update. I temporary solved this by deleting my sqlite keyfile as described in another post I found in a different forum, but it's since reoccured.
After I restart my system and run firefox, it's like it's running right after an update, or an install. None of my settings are saved, and password and cookies don't appear to be loaded either.
Is there any debug information I can provide?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.13.
Oddly if I close and restart Firefox it's fine. It's only after a Windows restart that I see an issue. Disk check runs clean. I've also deleted my profile directory and had FF recreate it. Still having issues though.

  • When i cancel one dvd recording the windows stop answering....

... And the dvd dissapear..... FOREVER!
    I Tryed this:
-Click on the cancel button -Then the window stop answering and didnt even stop recording my dvd-
-Reinit the finder... NO WAY. Do not run
-Force the end of the finder process... NO WAY... Do not run
-Reinit the computer....Well then the dvd is not there!!!!!! on the finder!
I wonder how can i "mount" the dvd when is not visible on the finder
Now i think you can access the unit with the disks utility... but this is one "arcane" place to find your dvd... I am sure many users never ever opened that tool
Can i mount the dvd from the UNIX shell? -sh-. Anyway this is not a good solution for the average user BUT COULD be ok for me
... And reinit the computer is not a "nice way" as well
Thank you for reading my long post

  • Can you make "Remember Playback Position" the default?

I mostly listen to audiobooks. When I take a CD and rip it, I always have to change the Option to "Remember Playback Position." After a few thousand times, this becomes tiresome. Is there any way to make "Remember Playback Position" the default option in iTunes? I am using iTunes 11.0.2.

Strongly recommend Context Search extension which will solve your problem

  • Getting playlists to sync and remember playback position

    Hi --
Is it possible to create a playlist where all the items in that playlist have the "Remember playback position" ticked, such that both ipod and itunes sync up the playlist position when connected?
I've tried this, and for some reason even with "Remember playback" chosen, whilst individually inside each of itunes and the ipod the position of the tracks will be remembered when syncing up ipod/itunes will not 'rationalise' the position in the way in which it seems to be able to do with podcasts.

I have a smart playlist for all of my Mac podcasts. It's set for anything where genre is podcast, "mac" is in album or name, play count is 0. As soon as I've listened to one podcast, it drops off of my playlist (at least once I've navigated at least one level above the contents of the playlist.
Are you trying to create a playlist with podcasts from 1 subscription or several subscriptions? If 1, then you'd put the name of the podcast "album" . If several, you could place something in the "comments" section of the get info window. For example, you could even put in "playlist one" into the comments section of each podcast that you wanted in that playlist. Then when you set up your smart playlist options, choose "genre" is "podcast", "keyword" is/contains "playlist one", "play count" is 0.
Does that make sense? Would that accomplish what you want?
