Some 24 fps clips playback choppy in project

I have two Sony HDR FX1000 camcorders, which I set for 24 fps.  My first tape plays reasonably well.  The other three seem to have problems, both in the source window and timeline.  My drives are defragged.  I'm running CS5 on my Sager i7 core laptop with 8 gig of RAM.
I am unfamiliar with the 24 fps style.  I've taped a wedding and thought it might be nice to include the feature.  Any constructive advice will be greatly appreciated!

Here's the rub - some of my clips play flawlessly on the timeline and in the source window.  CS5 doesn't give you the option to choose between frame rates - at least not that I've found, until you export.
There are two significant variables, it was cold, windy with showers.  I also used to camcorders.  I may have to perform some sample shots with both of them, to determine whether one has a problem...

  • Older mov clips playback choppy in Premiere CC 2014

Revisiting an old project (two years or so) and much of my footage is playing back choppy in Premiere.
It is some clips but not all. I played with sequence frame rates to see if there was a mis-match but nothing helped.
I'm noticing it happen in quicktime itself, could it be that the older clips ar not good anymore? Do they have a shelf life?
    Any workarounds or solutions?
    Thanks

    i7-3930K 3.20

As I stated before I have NO playback issues in Premiere CC. 2014 is where all my problems are.

  • Why do my PNG QT clips playback choppy?

I am working on a 3D animation using Blender as the 3D tool, and FC Studio as my editing tool. I render frame stacks from Blender, and Open Sequence with QuickTime Pro, then save those as clips to be used in Final Cut.
I have Blender render each frame as PNG, and thought I'd do a PNG workflow, so I exported from Quicktime as PNG, millions, 24fps. but when I play them back, they are hesitant, and choppy.
Previously, my workflow was the same, only Lightwave3D was my 3D app, and I saved my frames as PSD, imported to QT Pro, then Saved out as Planar RGB. Everything was smooth as could be, even on much less powerful hardware than I have now.
Can anyone say why the PNG clips play so unsmoothly? Is a PNG workflow not a good idea? I selected it because it's lossless, and makes small clips (file size)
my size is 852px x 480 px...certainly WELL within the capabilities of this Mac Pro.
    Thanks for any clues!

PNG is a stills codec, it's not a native codec used in video production. Check the FCP sequence presets and you'll a complete list of the native video formats FCP supports.
Alright..I think I'm getting close to epiphany here..thanks for hangin' in with me.
Just to be clear, my 3D out put is square pixels...this is a square pixel workflow from beginning to end. so if I keep everything 853 x 480, and use one of the FCP Presets, then I ought to get smooth playback, not only in FC Studio, but also in Quicktime Player?

I recently had some 8mm film transferred to DVD. I am trying to edit the film clips using Premier Elements 4.0. so I can reburn the films on a single BluRay disc. Some of the film clips copy into the project but others don't. I tried copying the VOB filed onto my hard drive and then changing the file extensions on the VOB files to MPEG but this was no help. Some of the VOB files contain numerous film clips but my software does not appear to be able to recognize them as such. I need to know if replacing my old Premier Elements with the new Version 13 would solve this problem or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    What do you have now.....
What computer operating system do you have?
We can go into the finer points of source and your intentions, but for now it would appear that you are using SD 4:3 source media to get to a HD 16:9 result. Lots to discuss in this regard.
What was given to you on the DVD disc? DVD-VIDEO 4:3 or something else?
If DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, you should expect to find on the disc a folder named VIDEO_TS. That is your target for your video files.
If you were given a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, then all you want from it are the video files, specifically
VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on through that series until possibly getting to
VTS_02_1.VOB, and so on. How many files you have beyond the VTS_01_1.VOB file will depend on the size of the DVD-VIDEO.
Does the above scenario apply to you?
The alternative might be someone giving a DVD disc (data disc) which contains just the VTS files mentioned which were copied from
the VIDEO_TS Folder. So, you do not get the whole VIDEO_TS Folder, just the essential video files. Does this scenario apply to you.
I see no need to replace your Premiere Elements 4 with a later version unless you have a huge project and need a later version that will be a 64 bit application running specifically on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer.
Consider...Premiere Elements 4 and if you have DVD-VIDEO on DVD....
    1. Place the DVD disc in the burner tray
    2. Open Premiere Elements 4 and set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard (assuming you are working in a NTSC setup)
    3. Go to
    Get Media
"DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader"
"Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" and its Advanced dialog.
Set the Source in the latter dialog for the drive which has your DVD disc inserted in its tray
You should see your VTS_01_1.VOB thumbnail in the "Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" Advanced dialog.
With this VOB selected, click on Get Media to get the file from there into the project.
    Should work fine.
Complications may be involved if the people who processed your footage gave you something other what is described above.
Please review and consider, and then we can plan our project strategy accordingly.
    Thank you.

  • Different zoom levels for different clips in the same project?

    Hi
I am making a movie with videos from two different cameras. As a result some of the clips are cut down in size to a small portion of the screen. This can be solved if it is possible to use different zoom levels for different clips in the same project. I have not been able to do this. Is it possible?
    kind regards
    Soren

You can scale the small clips up to the same size of the larger one... but you will get a quality loss.
Using Motion or Scale to Frame Size commands
Better to scale the large ones down to a Sequence that matches the smaller clip dimensions.

  • What is the best technique for "ripping" a commercial DVD and inserting this clip in my IMovie project (macbook Pro)?

How can i "rip" a part of a DVD that i bought from a vendor, when I went scuba diving recently?  My goal is to insert the  scuba  clip into my Imovie project, which I am developing in my Macbook Pro.     (This Mac is about 3 yearsold now)
I ,of course, will give credit to the company that produced the scuba DVD.
I read the posts, and Appleman1958, vernon Alexander, and Samhaque have had experience with this issue.
Which solution  do you recommend for me?  My ultimate goal is to create a DVD that includes snippets of a family trip.
thank you for your input here.
    Moshe Pipick

Let's assume that such a 'holiday video' does not have copy protection:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Copy/paste clips from a library/project to another copying media on the new library

I want to copy/paste some clips from a project timeline to another but COPYING MEDIA also on the second library/project. How can I do?

I'm in the project  "Anima mia" (which is together with an event in a library: all with the same name "Anima mia"). I want to pick up FROM THE TIMELINE some audio clips (which are the edited part of bigger clips placed in the browser) and some video clips (which are the edited part of bigger clips placed in the browser) and copy them on a new Project called "Riferimento" (which is with an event inside a library: all with the same name "Riferimento"), and I want to copy also the concerning original files to the new library. But I can't, infact if I copy/paste these clips in the new project/library I get this
I'd like to choose if leaving the original media in the source library or if phisical copying them to the new library. But it doesn't seems possible here....
    Is it clear?

  • Media offline (but not first clip) when import cs4 project to cs5

I've several clips in a cs4 project.  All original clips, all from the same footage, are in the proper folder.  When I imported the project into my fresh cs5 install, the first clip shows up properly -- video and audio are present -- but the rest in the sequence show "media offline."  When I search for the clip and select it to be linked, I'm informed that "The selected files do not contain audio media used by clip references in one or more sequences."  Clicking yes then gives me a clip in the project resources and timeline windows with no sound.
This makes no sense, since all clips are from the same source footage.  If the first clip in the sequence is fine, what's the problem?  Thanks for your help.

I figured out what has happened.  The clips were all from same original source, but somehow some had audio coded in mp2, others in mp3.  The first clip was mp3 and Premiere CS5 version spotted that codec.  For some reason PCS5 is not spotting the mp2 codec, while CS4 could, which is why I didn't have this problem back then.
The initial "media offline" message is terribly misleading, and the audio problem message is not specific enough.  I'll try to get CS5 to use the mp2 codec CS4 worked with.
    Thanks for your time.
Just to confuse things more, It's worth noting that the mp2 clips show up in Bridge cs5 and the audio plays fine there.  What's with Premiere Pro?  Irritating.

  • A video clip import for a new project keeps showing up as a clip from an older project.

So here's the issue, I succesfully imported and trimmed 95% of the video clips from my GoPro today. However, when I upload the piece de resistance, it shows up as a clip from an older project that I've already deleted. Despite showing me the older clip in the imported section, I can still play approximately 1/3 of the actual, new clip. Problem is it stops and doesn't allow me to work with the remaining footage. I've tried importing it straight from the SD card, copying it to the desktop first, etc. No luck. Any advice?

    So, it's Photoshop CS3.
Anyway, from what I understood, you open the photo directly form the disk in Photoshop. That is, you don't use Lightroom to open the photo in Photoshop. It just doesn't work this way. As I said above, Lightroom has no way of knowing when to import a photo that has been saved in Photoshop.
If you insist on using Jpegs for derivative files, your best way to go is indeed using Synchronize.
However, I'd advice to use a lossless format, like TIFF or PSD. Why leave image quality on the table (as Jeff Schewe likes to say)? Storage is cheap and you're editing only your best photos in Photoshop anyway.
And as an additional benefit, you can automate the process of importing derivatives:
Configure what file type to use in Prefs: TIFF or PSD, bit depth, color space etc.
Select an image in Lightroom and hit Ctrl+E.
The derivative file is created in the chosen format and opened in Photoshop.
    Edit and save in Photoshop.
Voila! Your edited derivative is already in Lightroom.

  • Drag & drop audio clip from timeline to project window ?

i no longer can drag a clip from timeline to the project window & then breakout the clip to mono by selecting clip - audio options- breakout to mono - now when i drop an audio clip from timeline into the project window it does not show up anywhere in the project window - did an update get rid of this function ? it was much better than having to go back to the unedited original source & start from scratch ...

thanx for your time Jim - i understand that would be the preferred method but that was a quick fix until recently i have noticed that i can no longer do it by just grabbing the edited clip & drop it in project window so that i can modify just that portion of the original files properties - it still functions that way on a friends machine - was just kinda weird that i can't get it to work that way any more …

  • Problem playing some .wmv video clips in my C7..

    Hello dear friends;
I just bought my new Nokia C7 mobile, everything is fantastic, i like this delightful device.. it has great many new features..  but i couldn't play some .wmv video clips.
I'm just wondering if there is a good media player need to install in mobile for playing this kind of format video clips.
    thanks..

I don't know if CorePlayer has released a version for the C7 but this worked very good.
Another option is to connect the phone to PC and use Windows Media Center or WMP11 or later to SYNC the video to the C7 this should convert the video before tranferring and may solve the problem.
Otherwise you may need to convert the video from WMV to MPEG-4 or other format that's supported by the C7.
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Problem with importing a clip from another iMovie project

    Hello
I want to import a clip from one iMovie project to another iMovie project.
Both projects are in 16:9, but when I import a clip it's no longer in 16:9.
The clip is croped and I have a black bar on the right and left side.
How can I solve this ?

Have you tried Copying the clip in Project A and Pasting it into Project B?
When you Copy and Paste clips, try to Copy and Paste all at the same time. More here:

  • How to view playing time of clips in Event or Project library ?

    Hi
I have a 15 minute video and I want to extract clips say at 1:15-1:37 and add to project library. (Someone has send me the times at which to extract the clips)
I understand that clips work on frame basis rather than time basis, but still is there any way I can know what time the clip is running when I press space bar or place my curser on the clips .. something like time in status bar of any media player like VLC.
    Thanks
    Adi

    Hi Adi,
You may have worked something out by now, but try the following:
From iMovie's menu select View>Playhead Info. In both the Events and Projects windows, as you skim across thumbnails you will see a black box with white text moving above the playhead. In Events, it will show just the creation date and time for each clip, which will not provide the information you need. However, in Projects, the box will show the elapsed time as well as the time recorded (shown incrementally).
So, I would suggest that you drag the full 15 minutes to the project. Now you will be able to find the exact time for each part you need for the project. Click and drag across the first section required (say 1:15 - 1:37) so that it is highlighted with a yellow border. Now control-click (or right-click) and select "Split Clip" from the pop-up menu. Continue to do this for any other sections you need to split from the main clip (or clips).
Finally, control-click (or right-click) on all the parts you don't need and select "Delete Selection" from the pop-up menu. The clips remaining in the project will be just those parts you've split from the full video.
TIP: In iMovie's menu select iMovie>Preferences and check (tick) the box labelled "Display time as HH:MM:SS:Frames". Now all times will be displayed down to the frame level.

  • Copy clip markers to new project?

I have a project file that was used by the director to make descriptive markers on clips. it references identical media and it was just a basic project file dupe for the director to use. i'd like to copy the markers in his project and add those to my markers on the clips in my master project. copy/paste just makes a subclip icon in my browser and defeats the purpose of it being a marker. is there an effective way to do this?
    thanks,

Not that I know of Ryan, but could you simply copy his clips to your project file?
