Some managed clients don't pick up managed prefs.

i have a brand new G5 Xserve running OS X 10.4.7 with all current updates installed. DNS, OD, AFP, NFS, and SMB are all working as expected.
there are two user groups, faculty and students, that contain around 40 and 300+ accounts, respectively. all logins appear to be working fine.
all previously unmanaged client machines -- seemingly regardless of OS version (a mix of 10.3.9 and 10.4.x) -- log in fine, and users receive all managed prefs.
some of the previously managed clients -- an old OD master now demoted to standalone on a 10.3.9 server -- login fine but don't grab some of the managed prefs. specifically, faculty user accounts don't show the required dock links to shares on the server and don't automount the two main AFP directories they need. home directories mount fine.
all problematic machines have been joined to the new OD.
has anyone seen this happen? i appreciate any insight you may have.

  • SUS 10.7.4 managed clients

SUS running on a 10.7.4 Server, updates are enabled and coppied.
Managed clients are set (through Profile Manager) to use the URL: "http://ourserver.fqdn:8088/index.sucatalog"
The clients insist on using the default software update location.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Firstly, that's the wrong URL.
    http://server.example.com:8088/index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
Secondly, if you get the URL wrong, software update will just error.  It won't default back.
It sounds like you have bigger probalms...  You should ensure that profile manager is properly pushing settings to clients.
Push the new setting to the client computer and wait for it to complete.
Once it completes, restart the client.
On that client machine in terminal type:
    sudo defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL
    type your password.
It should echo out the URL you've specified.  If it doesn't, then there's something else going on preventing the setting from being pushed out.

  • Config manager client deployment script states the user is not a local admin

Guys I posted here a while back in regards to deploying config manager clients in a wan environment. One of the suggestions was to use Jason Sandy's script. I finally got around to playing around with the script however I ran into some strange problems
while testing.I am deploying this via the user side of group policy not the computer side. The script goes out and installs the client the problem is when our users click on any Citrix application the script pops up a message box stating "the user is
not a local admin". I don't see how that's the case because this group of users all have local admin rights on there systems. If I run this script as a domain admin or under the system account everything works smoothly. Citrix is the only application
that's doing this however this is a big deal because we deliver all of our enterprise apps using Citrix. So has anyone here ran into this before?

  • Managing Client Prefs not working

I have a OD master and most of my services are working fine, like ichat, ical, file serving etc.
I cannot get the workgroup manager / preferences to be applied to the client. I can change them, but then when i go to the client, nothing happens.
(i am try to do things like define software update path, make shared folders be always visable, change default energy saving settings, etc.
there is no information in the system profiler under managed client
in the accounts window of each client is says they are managed.
i believe i am making a basic error in my understanding of managed clients. Do they somehow log into the server to get that information? how do i get them to do that?

    Eric Hilferding wrote:
do i have to log out or restart for a change to take place?
You can just log out then back in.
    Eric Hilferding wrote:
is it normal to have to setup the COMPUTER to effect the changes instead of USERS?
I'm going to say no to this though I'm in the same position as you USERS and USER GROUPS doesn't apply the effect of the preferences but COMPUTERS and COMPUTER GROUPS does.
As I understand it COMPUTERS and COMPUTER GROUPS is applied to the machine no matter who is logged in were USERS and USER GROUPS is the user/group only. So for example if your running a software update server your probably best setting up a COMPUTER GROUP call something like "All computers" or "All Snow Leopard Computers" etc if running different operating systems on your clients (as there is a different http link you use in the WGM software update prefs depending on OS) and applying the software update pref to that COMPUTER/GROUP.
If you were to apply a software update pref to the USER due to the three different http links needs for the correct catalog then should the user move mac to a different OS you'd get an issue.
I'm new to the whole server bit so someone else could probably tell use what were missing with regards USERS and GROUPS
How ever a couple of tips I've picked up (or fallen foul of!)
In workgroup manager in prefs under the tab Details you'll see a list of your managed prefs with a little arrow next to them you can ad more prefs to control from here they just don't get the nice UI like under the Overview pane.
In WGM > Prefs > Details (TAB)
click on the small + button and navigate to
Server HD > System > Library > CoreServices > ManagedClient
    The click ADD
It will then place in loads of PLIST files that you can edit to control things like iTunes etc
I think there called MCX files you may need to google it for a better explanation
Also I don't know if you use the Servers default locations for storing say Address Book Server Doc etc but if you ever set up a MySQL service and you change the data location from the default (in server admin) then don't use spaces any were in the path. I did and it got stuck in a startup loop and caused me hours of headache!
    So
    Volumes/My External Hard Disk/Server Data/MySQL Database
Is a big no no. Use
    Volumes/ExternalHD/ServerData/MySQLDatabase
Or just leave were Apple wants it! lol
Finally if you set the TIME & DATE System Pref on your server to grab the time/date from say time.apple.com (or what ever the defaults are) but then on your clients set them to look at your servers FQDN for time/date this syncs everyone to the server which is apparently good for KERBEROUS and also stops them going out over the internet.

  • OSD with Configuration Manager Clients and PKI certifications

My team and I had just set up PKI Certs on our System Center 2012 R2 Server. We want the opportunity to utilize Out Of Band Management, but we also would like to make our OSD available to the following "Only Configuration Manager Clients." I have
done some testing and have found that without PKI enabled we have been able to use this feature. Once we enabled PKI we could only perform OSD through PXE or Boot Media.
Is there a way to have PKI enabled but also allow OSD's to be available through "Only Configuration Manager Clients"?

Thanks for the reply, I will relay the info concerning OOB. It is not necessarily a technical problem we are running into, more of an inconvenience. OSD works great as long as you make your TS deployment available through Boot media or PXE. Our end goal
is to create a zero touch environment. To do this I was thinking of making the TS available only configuration manager clients. With PKI I loose that capability and it forces me to use boot media or PXE.
Is there a way to have PKI enabled and still be able to deploy TS with only configuration manager clients, and no other deployment method?
    Thank you again.

  • Softwareupdate command on managed clients

I have a software update server running with a bunch of OD managed clients set up to use it, and also some unmanaged clients that have it set in the sofwareupdate plist.
If I send the softwareupdate command via ARD to these clients, will they use my server? I don't see any way to specify the server through the CLI, so I'm assuming it will, but figured I'd make sure first...
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I use this whole line as my ARD command (keeping it handy in a text file to copy and paste) I send with Unix:
    systemsetup -setnetworktimeserver my.timeserver.org; defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://my.suserver.org:8088/; softwareupdate -a -i
This way I make sure it always uses the server I want to use.

  • Unable to generate Bean Managed Client project

    Hello,
I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3 Production (build 1035).
For each of our Business Components projects, we create a deployment profile - BC EJB Session Bean, Session Facade (BMT).
Because of the way our application is organized, the default folder proposed for the BMC (Bean Managed Client) project is not suitable.
As it is not possible to modify the BMC project folder or name once generated (maybe here is a slight problem?), we decided to find a different modus operandi to get the same final result.
But, it seems that the only way to create the BMC project is from the very beginning, when the deployment profile is created, and with the default names generated by JDeveloper.
    Maybe I am missing something.
Here are the steps I perform:
    1. Specify an Application Server Connection (Standalone OC4J) to our development OC4J server.
    2. For the BC project, create a Deployment Profile / Business Components EJB Session Bean.
    3. For this deployment profile, choose to deploy to Oracle 9iAS EJB Container, using the previously created connection.
    4. In the AppModules section of the profile, carefully reset the option "Create AppModule Configurations" after having selected the one AppModule defined in the BC project.
    5. In the properties of our AppModule, in the Remote section, I activate now the option "Remotable Application Module" and I select Session Facade (BMT) configuration.
    6. In the Target Platform section, I update the Client Project entry to fit our project's organization and press OK.
    7. I return to the deployment profile settings and set the option "Create AppModule Configurations".
For my surprise, at this moment the BMC project is not created. Nor if I compile the BC project, or modify again the AppModule, or the configurations, or the deployment profile...
I even tried to quit JDeveloper, re-enter and re-do the same attempts, but useless...
Is there a way to create the BMC project for a BMT Session Facade configuration after having created the deployment profile?
    TIA,
    Adrian

Sorry, I think I over-reacted. In fact, the only real problem I have is that I cannot move the BMC project from the default project to another.
I already have some projects for my application (which I tested until now in local config) and I want now to make them remotable. The problem with the project that did not want to create the BMC-pair was that it had nothing to remote - no exposed method, nor for AM, nor for VO's ;o)
For a project that already has some remotable methods, the steps to perform are very strict when you want to make it remotable. You are right, if I first make my AM remotable and properly define there the path and name for the client project, I get the good results.
But, even in this case, I did not see any integrated way of moving this project (completely generated by JDev) to another folder. What I do is modify the project in the configuration properties, quit JDev and move the folder manually.
    Thank you,
    Adrian

    Hi,
If don't change the default config, We are unble to download master page.
It's better to create your own (perhaps based on the default.master) and use that master page.
also, make sure there's no a permission issue on the website.

  • Edir OU Objects Don't appear in Management Console

    ZEN ESM Ver 3.5.0.154
I have created OU in Console One and created a Group so I can publish Policies to the group to reduce administration. The OU does not show up in the management console. I have tried rebooting, syncronising and loggin into the OU as well, with no luck.

    Hi there,
With build 3.5.177 almost all of the issues you described are solved. The eDirectory integration part was greatly improved - I also suffered the issues you described in the previous releases, and you had to re-create the directory configuration in order for the new eDir objects to show up. Novell client is also not required anymore - pure LDAP communication.
As for encryption, I understand your pain as I passed for the same situation. The encryption filter driver is now improved and you'll not notice any impact on performance once you enabled it. Previous requirement for encrypting only non-system volume was almost unpracticable as no customer that I know of had more than one partition on their laptops.
In summary, I think it's worth to take a look.
We are here to help if any issue arises.
    Good luck,
    Daniel

Sorry it's been a while but gave up after Novell tech sup informed me
that this was an issue in what was the current version at the time.
Groups that are created before the install of ESM show up and can be
published to, however, after ESM is installed if you create OU in NDS it
never shows up. Tech supp said this was an issue they hoped to resolve
in future releases. Besides this issue the data encyption had problems
as well, once the policy was published with data encryption dir the PC
utilistation went through the roof, again a bug confirmed by Novell.
There answer to this was a change that created bigger problems for our
company, you could only publish encrypted data dir to non system
volumes, however all our PCs in our company only have one partition.
Too big a job to create additional partitions to support this change.
I was using 3.5 ir5 when I experienced these issues.
I am querying this with novell since there seems to be an IR6 version
now. I doesn't show up on our product list yet. When it does I have
been tasked with testing it again to see if the bugs are out of it.

  • EMC Replication Manager Client on Solaris 10 Zone?

    Hello,
Hoping I could find out if anyone out there has had success running EMC's Replication Manager (client) on a Solaris zone where an Oracle database is running, and how it was installed. Normally we install 3rd party software on the Global host /opt, and then call the libs, etc, from the zone (the global host's /opt is made readable to the zone). An obvious solution would be to install the client directly within the zone, but should we need to add another zone for redundancy purposes (two hosts running one database each, should one host go down, we'd migrate it's zone w/ the other database over to the other host), we would have to install the EMC client (again), rather than being able to just call the same deployment from the Global host from within the new zone.
Any info or links to info would be appreciated. I tried searching around but didn't find anything.
    Vlad

    Hi,
    Thanks once again for reply!!
If you already installed Oracle Virtual Directory Manager on Sun SPARC, can you brief us pre-requisite setting and installation steps, so that we can follow the same.
Because, we are getting error in the initialization of installation process itself. So, I think there must be some configuration settings to be made.
We already raised SR (Service Request) with Oracle, bu there is no reply from their side till now.
I am waiting for your reply ASAP

  • Syclo : Error in connecting Work Manager Client with Agentry Server

    Hi,
Can somebody please shed some light on work manager client-server connections? I have downloaded the "SAP_WORK_MANAGER_BY_SYCLO_5.2" package from market place and set up the Work Manager server. It can successfully connect to the SAP back-end. Environment variables are correctly set too. However, I'm failing to connect to the Work Manager server from the Work Manager clients. I have tried from the Win32 & Android clients both.
For Win32 client, the error I'm getting is:
For Android, I can't even see the server instance, although it's running (it shows up while attempting to connect from Win32). Error:
When I attempt to connect from Work Manager client to the server, it asks for username/password and for Android client it asks for Agentry user id and password. Aren't these username/password of the server where my Work Manager (Agentry) server is installed?
Also, the "Agentry Development Server" which has been set to run as a service runs with Administrative privileges.
    I followed this: http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/SAPMOB/Agentry+error+Client+Receiving+RFC+ERROR+LOGON+FAILURE+incomplete+logon+Data+when+connecting+to+server
It didn't help. Please let me know where I'm going wrong?

I haven't yet installed ATE and tested out any application. I just want my connections to be perfect, first.
I have a question. Are the credentials used to connect Work Manager client to the server, same as the SAP backend credentials or are they the credentials of the host on which the Work Manager server is installed?
I have tried logging in using the SAP credentials also. But that results in error too.
These credentials are valid for SAP backend and successfully logs onto it and also responds correctly to connectTest.bat. However, I think this error is logical because these are the credentials for SAP backend and not the server where Work Manager server is hosted.

  • Manage clients with multiple workgroups

In our business, everyone belongs to a departamental group, e.g. "Staff Accounts", "Staff Drafting", etc. Each of these groups belongs to a workgroup called "Access Company" that is a managed group that creates non-syncing mobile accounts and manages some other preferences upon login.
There are some additional preferences we'd like to manage for select groups, but not the whole company.
E.g. we wish to have some users use network accounts if they move from desk to desk, but not all users. We've set up a "NetworkUsers" workgroup for this, problem is, for correct access to file server volumes, etc. they also need to belong to "Access Company" group. When they log in, they are prompted which one of the two workgroups they would like to join. We don't exactly want to educate these users to select "NetworkUsers" each time. Is there a way instead to have a certain workgroup take priority over another? Or better, is it possible for different workgroups managed preferences to be combined, which would be even better, that way we don't have to copy all the managed preferences from "Access Company" group over to "NetworkUsers" each time we wish to make change to the managed preferences.
Also, in combination with the "Access Company" workgroup, we wish to manage printers, however, we don't want to add all the same printers to the "Access Company" group because some of our users are at remote sites so don't want irrelevant printers showing up in their list. When we add somebody to a "Print something" workgroup, they will also be part of "Access Company" workgroup. Once again, ideally, we'd like to have the managed preferences combined, if not possible, we can add all the managed preferences from "Access Company" group to "Print something" group and have that single workgroup managing their preferences, but this takes time and when we wish to make a change to managed preference for the whole company, we'll have to update that change in each one of the workgroups in use, so combining managed preferences is definitely desired, otherwise, if really not possible, we could manage with only one workgroup per user, but once again, we're at the problem of them having to belong to the "Access Company" workgroup for file server permission, etc. and we don't want the box to pop up asking them which workgroup they want to join.
Any ideas to get around this problem?
If it's just a limitation of Mac OS X server 10.5, it's a pretty **** big basic lacking feature, and if so, is it better in 10.6 in which case it'll be worth upgrading.

Solved my problem the proper way!!
I read again that combining managed preferences from multiple workgroups is possible on page 6 of this document:
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/L355774BWkgrpMgrTB.pdf
My tests showed differently, but I eventually figured out why:
Managed preferences will combine only between groups where one is a parent of the other. The child group's managed preferences overrides the parent group's managed preferences, but ONLY IF the parent group is an inherited group from the child group ONLY! (i.e. must be strictly hierarchical)
    i.e.
If ChildGroup is a child of ParentGroup and the user is added to ChildGroup only, it will get the combined managed preferences of ChildGroup and ParentGroup.
If the user is explicitly added to both ChildGroup and ParentGroup (instead of ParentGroup being inherited only), the preferences will NOT combine.
If ThirdGroup is also a child of ParentGroup and the user is added to ThirdGroup and ChildGroup, then the preferences also will NOT combine - i.e. the parent group it wants to be combined with must be inherited through one group only. If ParentGroup is inherited from ThirdGroup, but also inherited from ChildGroup, no combining of managed preferences will take place.
My solution was to keep my "Access Company" group only as a non-workgroup for file access and create a new workgroup with company-wide managed preferences to which each departmental group belongs to.
Hope this helps someone who experiences the same problem!

  • Pick Pack Manager - change Priority

    Hi
I want to use the BP Priority field to assign a delivery run for a customer. 95% of the time the customers who own shops never change their delivery route therefore I can use the Pick /Pack Manager to create Picking lists for individual truck deliveries every day.
However, on the odd occasion, the customer changes their mind and has goods delivered to their home address/ thus a different truck and different Priority/Run.
I've tried using a FS to bring Priority / Run through to SO and changed but the Pick /Pack Manager pulls data from the BP Master and this didn't work.
We have Boyum to use if required.
Has anyone done this easily before or do I have to resort to either manual change or SDK???
    Marilyn

    Hi Marylin,
As I understand you decided to use the Priority field because it is exposed in Pick&Pack? If this is the case I would try to use a field which is also exposed in the sales order, for instance the Shipping Type. In the order the Shipping Type is pulled from the BP master but you can change it for that one transaction, and in P&P it is pulled from the order and therefore would solve your issue.
However I understand you might use the Shipping Type already for something else.
    Regards,
    Nat

  • I Don't Understand Color Management

I'm a relative newbe, but have been digging into Photoshop CS4 pretty intensely the last several months. All in all I think I'm getting a pretty good handle on it and can pretty much do what I want to do ........ EXCEPT Color Management. No matter how much I read on the subject I still don't have even the basic concepts.
First off, my tools include a Nikon D90 -> HP Touchsmart Notebook (uncalibrated lcd screen) ->Photoshop CS4 -> a just purchased Epson r2880.
Let's ignore the Nikon for now and just concentrate on PS and the r2880.
My color settings in PS are Adobe RGB98 and CYMK US Web coated (SWOP) v2
Assuming this is OK must I assign a profile to each individual photo, or is that taken care of automatically? What is the purpose of the profile?
Then when I get ready to print and Color Management is being taken care of by Adobe, do I turn off all color correction in the r2880 or do I use the ICM (which I have downloaded from the web)?
I experiment with the different settings and one seems to work better sometimes than the other, but not consistently.
Any help (to include recommended documentation or literature) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much. Some of this is starting to make sense in a (It Depends on ....) sorta way.
Going to your analogy, isn't it true when the photographer takes a picture in RAW
there is no profile, but this is done when opening the image in PS?
I do use adjustment layers pretty effectively.
It's when I'm ready to print that it gets confusing. Is the most likely scenario
to let Adobe of the Printer (with it's premium ICC) handle color management,
or let Adobe handle color management?
And if I let Adobe handle color management, is the most likely scenario to have the printer set
to "No color management" or "ICC color management"?
I suspect the answer is "Experiment and see", but thus far that has produced
    a mixed bag of tricks.
    A few questions:
    1. Are you doing photography?
Yes, that's all I'm doing at the Present.
    2. When you print to the Epson - are you trying to proof for a commercial print job, or are you just printing for yourself?
No, this is strictly a hobby.
    3. Are you supplying files to a commercial printer?
    Again, no.
    4. Have you calibrated and profiled your monitor?
No, but that's probably going to be one of next projects. My monitor (and tablet) is actually a small 10" lcd on a HP Touchsmart notebook
Any suggestions as to a low cost solution?

Subject: I Don't Understand Color Management
My basic understanding of CM is Source and Destination.
Take a picture, for example. The photographer captures the image in RAW and converts this to an RGB image.
The image is passed on to the designer. If the photographer did their job properly, the image is already tagged with a profile. You can tell this in Photoshop. Beside RGB, there will be *, #, or nothing.
is very, very bad. This means the image is untagged. Nobody knows what it should look like.
means the image is tagged with a profile different from your RGB working space. This is fine.
Nothing means the image is tagged with a profile that matches your RGB working space in Color Settings.
At any rate, the RGB image is usually referred to as a source image. It can be repurposed to a variety of destination color spaces.
The next task is proofing the destination. This can be done on the monitor, if it is properly calibrated and profiled. You can also print a proof (that can get a little more complicated, if you have questions please ask).
For example, you want to know what the image will look like when the commercial printer runs it on his press. Best case scenario is you obtain a CMYK profile from the printer. This is your Proof Color (i.e. Photoshop View: Proof Colors).
Usually it is best to leave source RGB as source RGB. You can place the RGB image in InDesign, and let InDesign convert to CMYK on output. In other words, there is no reason to convert to CMYK in Photoshop (you should however utilize View: Proof Colors)
When you convert in Photoshop you damage the image and there is no going back. This means saving a copy. But by avoiding conversions to CMYK in Photoshop, no need to save copies.
Also by leaving images source RGB, they can be converted to whatever destination you like when you output from InDesign. You could output for a Sheetfed press printing on cover weight coated stock, you could output for a Web press printing on newsprint, or you could even output sRGB for web design. Having source color saves a lot of time, and you're not chasing a bunch of different Photoshop conversions.
Also note: if you make color adjustments in Photoshop, try to use adjustment layers as these are non-destructive.
    A few questions:
    1. Are you doing photography?
    2. When you print to the Epson - are you trying to proof for a commercial print job, or are you just printing for yourself?
    3. Are you supplying files to a commercial printer?
    4. Have you calibrated and profiled your monitor?

Use two streams to manager client video/audio,Can i combine streams and record it with server AS API
    I tried Stream.play()
    var s=Stream.get("combine");
    s.play("video");
    s.play("audio",null,null,false);
    s.record("append");
    it's don't work!!

Thanks, that's what I had thought. Our domain.com zone is sourced internally and replicated to our advertisers for external users, so there's no way to change the result for internal vs external users.
This is a rudimentary question that I should already know but I sort of inherited this after it was built: Can I have users sign in with their email address ([email protected]) but under the hood, their SIP address is [email protected]? This would let users
sign in with an address they expect, but it would take advantage of the the local lyncdiscoverinternal record.
    Thanks,
    Matt
