Some tutorial for Tomcat Web Server

Hi,
I would like to know where I can find a downloadble tutorial about
Tomcat web server.
I am a begginer in Java technologies and I have a question.
,Tomcat web Server works also like App Server? and Can Apache web
server works together Tomcat app server? and if it possible, How?
Give me an example, please.
Thanks a lot,
ras283

You can go to apache.org for information.
Tomcat can work with Apache, but it only serves JSPs and servlets (and static pages, if you don't want to bother with Apache).
The J2EE Reference Implementation (j2sdkee1.3.1) includes Tomcat, and functions as an app server as well. See the J2EE tutorial http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/index.html and Java Pet Store demo http://interstagedemo.fs.fujitsu.com:8000/petstore/index.jsp / http://java.sun.com/features/2001/12/petstore13.html

  • Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server

    Hello Experts,
I have never done a BOBJ install before and I have some questions:
First, here is our setup: Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server
    1.     We are being asked how big u2013 disk space- to make the server. All I can find is 14 GB for an English only install, there is no documentation on how big the databases need to be. Does anyone have any experience and can tell me how big the databases are going to be initially? I need to tell the server team how much space to put on the server.
    2.     The documentation says to have two databases or schemas, one for Central Management Server and one for the Auditing Data Store. My question around this is whether there is a preferred way to do it, separate databases or separate schemas?
    3.     The documentation does not say anything about the file system layout, do we need to create the standard SAP file system layout (i.e. /sapmnt, etc.)
Many many thanks in advance, any advice would be a greate help .. please help
    Regards,
    Sunil Patel

    Hi,
    here are some answers:
    1. Well for the Installation of the Software as itself (not the databases) i would recommend at least 30 GB. All the Reports are getting stored physically in the installation directory. This behavior is by default. Later you can move the FileStore (where the Reports, Universes, etc. are located in) to a NAS share f.e.
With Regards to the Databases i would recommend 1 GB for the CMS DB and 5 GB for the Audit DB. It depends on how you Audit your System. If you audit more actions, more information in the Audit DB will be stored.
    2. 2 Schemas on one DB is fine
    3. Usually you run a BOE installation on UNIX/LINUX under an installation user. BOE will be installed into his Home Directory.
    Regards
    -Seb.

  • How to set the servlet context path manually in Tomcat web server.

I tested some servlets by putting them in the folder , which the tomcats examples application uses (ie Tomcat 4.1\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\) and it appeared to be working fine.
I was calling the servlet like this : http://localhost:2006/examples/servlet/TestServlet
But when I installed my own WAR file in the server , the servlet is not working now. now the new location of my servlets is : Tomcat 4.1\webapps\MyApp\WEB-INF\classes\
and I'm trying to call the servlet like this : http://localhost:2006/MyApp/servlet/TestServlet
The error , what i'm getting is :
description :The requested resource (/MyApp/servlet/TestServlet) is not available.
Some body please tell where I'm making the mistake ? I believe this may have something to do with the servlet context path setting. If anybody has any idea , how to set the path..will be much appreciated.

Thanx for your reply , at first I was not using any web.xml(since not mandatory) but even after using the web.xml file the error is coming . Please have a look into the contents of the web.xml file and let me know if you find any problem...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"

    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>TestServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>TestServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    </web-app>
one more thing I would like to tell you here. I was just looking into the configuration of Iplanet web server..I found that , there are options to set the servlet container path (like : - Prefix: /servlet
    Servlet Directory: /ecomm/iplanet/nes60/product/docs/container )
so from here I came to know that "container " is the folder where we should put our servlets and it has URI as "servlet" but yet I'm not able to find any option in the Tomcat Web server to set the servlet container to any different directory.
If you have any idea please let me know.

  • Tomcat web server

    hello
i am a italian newbie for java world, and i would want to make you a question:
for resolving a problem with tomcat web server i must interpretate the following sentence: The best fix is to turn off automatic webapp reloading for the application: in Tomcat's server.xml, find the <Context> declaration, and ensure it is set to: reloadable="false".
there is someone who knows well the tomcat server.xml configuration file?
    thank you very much
    ps: sorry for my english!

    hi :-)
when you have a new class, you put it in /WEB-INF/classes/ right?
    tomcat doesnt load this automatically,
you have to start-stop tomcat to apply your changes.
when reloadable option is set to true (ex. reloadable="true" )
you dont need to start-stop tomcat because tomcat will
    automatically load it for you.
its ok for me in development stage,
but when you deploy your application for production,
    its no longer advisable.
    why?
because setting it to reloadable to true eats much resources on the server :-(
imagine you have 5000 class and when your setting is autoreload.
this might cause your server to hang.
its better to just stop the server, put your classes then start again the server.
i have to go home for now, i hope i give an idea :-)
    regards,

  • Eclipse and TomCat Web Server

    Hi experts,
I have been working with Eclipse for last 1 month. I was just working with Portal application component development and publishing it to the SAP EP J2EE server everything worked fine.
I have eclipse,JDK,Tomcat3.3.2 installed in my laptop and EP J2EE engine runs on the server.
Now i studied online regarding the development process with eclipse, The portal application component is published to Tomcat web server first and tested for possible errors and then published to the EP J2EE server. How this process is handled?
Can any expert explain on this and provide me link to make the required configuration of eclipse  for publishing to tomcat web server?
    Thank you
    arun

Well, the answer I found was that I have an invalid character that is not supported yet by the WAS, the character is "ñ".
Using Eclipse and deploying in Tomcat worked fine but in WAS 7.0 SP 8 it throws ParseExceptions

  • PDF has not been configured for this web server linux 11.1.2

    Hi,
We installed 11.1.2 Hyperion WorkforcePlanning on Linux 32 bit OS.
When the user opens the workspace and tries to see the "Profit and Loss" and selects
"File --> Open In --> PDF format" , it just flicks for a sec and gives following message :
" PDF has not been configured for this web server"
Can somebody suggest me what to do ?
    Appreciate your response.

Check your print server service on your foundation server, sometimes I have had that just stop for whatever reason.

  • Specification for the Web server

    Hi All,
    We have BW3.5.
Presently web server is running in the production box itself.
We are planning for a separate box for the Web server.
Please give me the tips for the hardware config for the Webserver.
    Thanks
    Billy

    Hi,
    1) Currently there is no WSRP or JSR support
but this will be soon "standard" for all portals!
    2) Device detection is available. Mobile Access pack will
be available soon. (It is available now for portal 3.0)
    Cheers,
    Alex :-)

  • Financial Reporting - PDF has not been configured for this web server.

When I try a Print Preview of my report, I received this error "PDF has not been configured for this web server".
As far as I know, this error is confusing because when I look on my log files I found this:
    --- FRLogging.log ---
[APP: FINANCIALREPORTING#11.1.2.0] The system cannot access the Print Server at this time. Try again later or confirm the print server name.
[APP: FINANCIALREPORTING#11.1.2.0] Cannot connect to server on xxxHFRCE04.cf.gouv.qc.ca
[APP: FINANCIALREPORTING#11.1.2.0] Attempt to get an undefined configuration property
    --- FRPrintLogging.log ---
HyperionReportException: Could not connect to the server. Please make sure that the server is running as specified in the logon dialog (including port number if not default).
I read a lot of document but it seem to be au communication issues!!!
Can someone help me with that.

I believe the supported version for ghost script is 7.0.6; I had the same problem and after installing the lower version it worked like a charm.
If you cant find the older version let me know, I'll email it to you or place it in my website.

  • Planning on using Arch for a web server/torrent tracker/torrent s[...]

I'm going to be making a web server/torrent tracker/torrent seed (hopefully) from Arch on an old-ish HP NetServer E 800. I was going to go with Debian, but I like the KISS Arch brings and with a server on the slim hardware I'm using, even Debian is too big esp. compared to Arch. [If the hardware's not up to Arch (highly doubtful) I'll have to resort to *gasp* Gentoo.]
I saw the tutorial on the wiki for Arch with Apache, LAMP, etc. so that's fine. I do, however, have a question about torrent stuff. I'm wanting to track and seed my band's torrents off the same machine (obviously, it won't be the sole tracker; TPB/Mininova/etc.), where its site is (two separate domains: .com for the main site, .org for the email, legal stuff, and BT tracker).
I am planning on using XBTT as the tracker and XBTC + web interface as the seed client. My main (and only, as of yet) problem is that there are no instructions on the XBTT site or Arch wiki for using Arch with XBT(T/C). I guess the only difference is getting the tools needed. Are these included with Arch, in the main repos, or somewhere available for Arch? Also, would there be a conflict seeding from the same machine the tracker is on?
If that doesn't work, I'm thinking Opentracker. I don't expect too many peers but we might get Dugg, Slashdotted, Stumbled, or promoted by TPB (they like when bands release over BT). So, I want a tracker than can handle the unlikely event of a large number of peers.
Also, does anyone know of a Python frontend to XBTT? PHP is fine, but really prefer Python to integrate with the remainder of the site.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sajro

manasij7479 wrote:3.This should be an stfw type of question, but I'm really confused about which way to go for a remote desktop connection.
So, I'd like to hear any experience, positive or negative, on that matter.
Note that my main machine will have an extra monitor,on which I'd like to ocassionaly 'see' the server.
I second/third/forth screen. Ask yourself if you really need a GUI for a server--chances are, the answer is a "no." Screen is handy because you can detach it from anywhere and then resume right where you left off. ctrl+a followed by "d" to detach, screen -r to resume (or -rd if you need to resume and detach a running instance). GUIs are mostly overkill for this use case, IMO.
I have a very similar setup with a cheapish AMD CPU, large disks, and a fair amount of RAM running mostly as a file server/router/miscellaneous box (NFS/SMB, also as a web server, IPv6 gateway, and other odds and ends). I have one of the monitors of my desktop plugged into it in the event I actually need to see it (rare, but can happen if something occurs with the network).
I think you'll find after some experimentation that it's a lot easier to manage and run than you might expect. The same drawbacks that apply to Arch desktops apply to servers as well, probably more so: Regular maintenance updates aren't likely to happen depending on how you use the server, so you need to keep up on the news and bookmark important entries for whenever you do have time to update it. Be extra sure to update it only when you have an hour or two to spare, particularly if you come to rely on that machine to be up and running.
Perhaps the more serious drawback of having an always on (or almost always on) server is that you'll find far more uses for it than you originally anticipated.

  • Is there any API for connecting web server and iphone apps

    Hi,
I have to retrieve data from Web Server and display in my iphone apps. I want to know that is there any API through which i can connect my apps to server and get data.
One way i know that use NSURLConnection and get XML response and prase it and use it like that.
    So anyone know this?
    Thanks.

NSURLConnection is straightforward to use. In the mobile world, and especially if you intend to use certain google APIs, I would rather tend to use JSON instead of XML. A great JSON parser for objective-c is here: http://code.google.com/p/json-framework/
    Cheers,

  • New admin for java web server

    Hi,
i just installed Sun Java System Web Server 7.0. besides intsalling it, i don't know how to use it.
I am looking to add some files so users can view them. how do i go about doing that? I have no clue?
I don't know how to use it just yet but can follow instructions rather well.
    i am a unix admin.
    thanks
    ~jv

Ok.. it depends what type of content do you want to add.
You can start by dropping html documents in your instance's document root directory, usually /sun/webserver7/https-configname/docs.
making sure the server instance is running, hit the pages. And voila, you should be able to see it.
