Sorting by pixel length/width in Aperture 2.0

I have a smart album for images to be submitted to a stock agency. This agency requires that the long edge of an image be a minimum of a certain number of pixels. How can I sort out the images that meet those requirements from those that need to be enlarged to meet the requirement? I tried sorting using pixel size, but I'm not sure what "pixel size" means to Aperture exactly, as some images that have clearly larger pixel dimensions get listed in the middle of ones that have smaller dimensions.
Any ideas?

IMO no, the first step us to assign metadata that applies to all images in the batch during the import to the entire batch of images. Of course individual images can later get image-specific metadata.
...So it looks like projects are not for long term organization.
IMO projects are very much for long term organization in that each project can fully stand alone. However also IMO good keywording far transcends project organization. E.g. "Tibet 2008" is a project that stands alone, but the keyword "flowers" crosses all projects to present all flowers ever keyworded.

  • Chinese export to pdf in pixels - fixed length width

I have the C# windows form program which will export the Sales POS Receipts in PDF. But I find that due to fonts problem, the chinese and english words that make it not aligned for each line.
But I heard that there is a solution that will make the char length be the same for each letters in pixels by assigning full-width to chinese and half-width to english words.
Which library I can use for handling pixels length when exporting to PDF???

  • Sort by focal length

    1. Metadata Browser: sort by focal length (using a cushioned range)
    2. Ability to filter based on focal length: i.e. with 3 criteria lens, focal length, aperture it would be super simple to paint in presets for removing natural vignetting.

    Ian,
The post in which I repeated your comment was not directed at you, the quote was used to re-iterate that it is accepted that the feature is currently not available, and that the search feature is very limited.
If you feel my post was directed at you, my apologies. If you reread the post, the only two times the word "you" was used was in the following way:
    >"If you build it, they will come..." well, "If the information is there, you should be able to search, filter, or create smart collections by it."
The comment should have started with "With all due respect to the LR team..." because I hate harping on a subject, with anyone. However, this thread was initiated on July 10, 2007 and covers an issue that deserves to have been addressed by now.
After all, LR is a database program designed with photographers in mind. All databases work in the same way:
    1. They provide a way to input/gather information
    2. They store the information in fields, and
    3. They allow you to obtain that information through reports, or other means, so you can use it constructively. LR gathers the focal length information separately from the lens information. Therefore, it should be easy to program it to allow you to filter/search/create collections on the information.

  • SAP PP: In BOM how to where to maintain the details like Length, Width and Quantity

    Dear All,
In SAP PP where to maintain the details like Length, Width, Quantity of the material for production information.
    Eg:
Client will procure a material of 10milli meter Thickness Mild Steel material of fixed dimensions lets say 4meters x 4Meters
    {so the material dimensions are 4000Milli Meter (Length) x 4000Milli Meter (Height) x 10milli meter (Breadth) Mild steel Sheet}
For production the above plate is to cut into desired sizes as per the drawings given by Design Department of "N" no qtys.
    (let say in drg for the component the desired sizes are 1000Milli Meter (Length) x 1000Milli Meter (Height) x 10milli meter (Breadth) of 4Nos}
In BOM where all we can maintain the above details. The same details wants to send it to production for their quick reference.
Also how the system will calculate the weight automatically for procuring of raw material with the above details.
Note: Purchase department will procure the full length as i mentioned above but not the desired lengths to be produce for production.
Pls let me know if any further information required for the solution to suggest.
    rgds,
    VKUMAR A

    Hi,
    You can use two options...
    1. Classification...create characteristics like length, height and breadth with CT04, assign these chars to class (CL01) and assign this class to your raw material in classification view in material master (MM02). When you receive the material from vendor during GR enter the values for characteristics. (activate Batch management).
Now when you create the Production Order, in the components for this raw material, assign the batch..
When this is issued against the Production order , production people can see the details of values in the batch...
    2. Try to explore the option of variable size item concept during creation of BOM..
    Thanks

  • How to Sort by the length of the returned value from a query.

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to sort by the length of the returned value from a query?
For example if I want to get a list of people with the name 'Samuel', I would like to short by how short the length of the whole name is.
Sort by length of the name in SQL
    Samuel Syda
    Samuel Indranaka
    Samuel Johnsons
    Samuel Longhenderson
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Sorting is done by an ORDER BY clause at the end of the main query.
In most cases, you can ORDER BY any expression, even f it is not in the SELECT clause.  In this case, it sounds like you just need:
    ORDER BY  LENGTH (name_column)
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
Post your query, using an ORDER BY clause like the one above, and point out where that query is producing the wrong results, and explain, using specific examples, how you get the right results from the given data in those places.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

That's rather a lot of code - and much of it has nothing obvious to do with sorting strings by length. Also I can't see where you have implemented the Comparable interface.
You are talking about java.lang.Comparable, right? In that case some class (Word?) has to be declared as "implements Comparable".
Another way to do this is is to have an instance of Comparator that you use when you create an ordered collection like a TreeSet.
Have you read the JavaWorld article: [http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2002/jw-1227-sort.html]. It is rather old now and doesn't make any use of generics. But it gives examples of a simple collection - a list - being sorted using Collections.sort(). Both the Comparable and Comparator approaches are illustrated

  • Metadata Browser, sort by FOCAL LENGTH

I'd like to see the option to sort images by focal length, in addition to the by aperture, and by shutter speed.
    //Svien

In addition, please add the capability sort images in grid view by any meta data item recognized by LR, i.e.: camera model, camera serial number, etc.
In environments where LR is used to manage images from a variety of shooters and cameras it is extremely useful to be able to sort by meta data via the view:sort order dialog.
In a high speed workflow environment the work-around of filtering by date range and selecting meta data filters is not desirable.

  • Photo's are pixelated when chosen from Aperture library in System Prefs.

When I go to system preferences to choose my background image, all my Aperture Images are extremely pixelated when clicked on.
Example: If I have a 1440 x 900 image to perfectly fit my background it appears as a stretched out 640 x 480 extremely low res image.
But if I export the photo from Aperture than drag it into the background drop box in System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver the images looks like it should. It's just that this way takes way more time and is a hassle.
    Any idea? common problem?

One more question not related the pixelation is that in System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver

  • Sort order for photos synched from Aperture

I have synched photos from Aperture to the Apple TV, but the sort order when shown on Apple TV is not the same as the sort order in Aperture. Does anyone have an idea about which metadata field in Aperture is being used by Apple TV to determine the sort?

Hi this is my first append to Apple support so things may go pear shaped...
I have the same problem as you describe and have discovered that the order appears to be consistent with the file NAME order (as seen in Finder) This is not the camera file name but the version name I gave it when I imported the file into Aperture. I then exported the album to the desktop and streamed it to Appletv. (iTunes #count/album is sometimes wrong)
Given a file list of say 40 files, the new (incorrect Appletv re-sorted) order follows a pattern based on the FIRST numeric decimal digit in the filename!
Example - I have a folder containing 40 consecutive images - the new order these images will be displayed by Appletv will be as follows
    1 10[...]19 2 20[...]29 3 31[...]39 4 40 5 6 7 8 9
I've proved this by photographing 40 separate image files each one showing a number in the range of 1 to 40 as an individual image. These are in order by number (as appears in the image) & file number assigned by the camera, and also therefore by file date time. I imported them into Aperture and assigned them the Version name of 'Number' + sequence.
So, when I view image file #1 named 'Number 1 of 40' I see the number '1' and the EXIF tells me it was taken at 28/07/2007 13:33:16 BDT. Similarly when I view image file #40 named 'Number 40 of 40' I see the number '40' and the EXIF tells me it was taken at 28/07/2007 13:37:34 BDT.
I CAN CHANGE the order Appletv displays these by renaming them - eg change file name 'Number 10 of 40' to 'Number 41 of 40' makes it appear at the end. The sequence now becomes 1 11-19 etc 40 41. Nothing else appears to have changed.
I've since found that a separate burn of different files(29) using Toast followed the same pattern.
Since starting this append iTunes has the added the album of 40 numbers to its list and I have just viewed them on Atv slideshow. Bizarrely the order is different again - 3,5,2,4,1,10,13,15,6,11,14,7,8,12,9,32,17,33,26,22,23,28,18,29,20,24,35,16,21,3 1,19,25,30,34,27,37,38,40,39,36. Random is off. Please can we have a fix for this or at least a workaround.
    Thanks.

  • Changing Pixel Aspect Ratio with Aperture

i was wondering if aperture has a way of changing the pixel aspect ratio from square to DI/DV NTSC or HDV. so far i am using photoshop to do that but would love to do it inside aperture.

Not that I'm aware of. Pixels are pixels to Aperture. You could always crop your images to the right aspect ratio.
If you're looking to burn photos to DVD perhaps iDVD or DVD Studio Pro could resize your images to the proper size.

  • Do you know of a simple way of sorting and deleting duplicate photos on  aperture

Hi , Do you know of a simple way of sorting and then deleting duplicate photos on Apeture.
    Thanks Phil

There is no simple way. The best strategy really is to take care not to import duplicates.
What is your Aperture 3 version?
What kind of duplicates are you asking about?
If you imported exactly the same file multiple times, sorting your images in the Finder by filename or creation date will display them side by side.
If you have diferently sized versions of the same image, edited versions, or versions converted to a different format, then sorting by creation date will not help; you might try to sort by capture date, but that may fail, if there were different imezone settings when you imported the images.
You could also sort be filename, if you did not rename the images on import.
If you renamed your versions, adjusted the date, modified the file properties by writing to the original files, try to sort by other tages - faces, location, keywords.
There are some helper applications to scan your Aperture library and tag duplicates: (I have not really tested any of them)
Duplicate Annihilator (Mac) - Download  good to detect accidentally imported thumbnails
http://photosweeper.en.softonic.com/mac  : This app can actually detect edited duplicates based on statistic measures and histogram similarity.
