Sound stutters on Pavilion dv4 1120us

I got my Pavilion dv4 1120us for christmas and got it set up. It is running Vista Home premium and has SP1. I noticed that every so often when playing sound it slows down and stutters for a few seconds, and then usually catches back up. It did this both hooked up to external speakers and through its own speakers. The condition seems immune to changes in peripherals. I noticed that no particular application is responsible either. It occurred when streamming from myspace and playlist.com, when watching a dvd in both the included windows media center, wmp and VLC, while playing CDs, and while playing a game (total annihilation.) I also noticed that the problem persisted even when I wheedled down the number of process running from 80 to 60 something.
I thought the problem might simply reside in Vista and the bloat-ware that came on the computer. Today I inistalled ubuntu to dual boot and the problem is continuous, plus the headphone jack and speakers only switch with Vista (i think that is merely a driver problem...) i would like to know how to fix the problem at least with Vista, and with the linux as well would be nice. I have HP Pavilion dv4-115se with IDT audio drivers and Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bits. It had a terrible cracking sound following each music played. I went through tons of forums, a lot of people said that it was the microphone/webcam combo that comes built in. Some people said it was Vista, Some people said that it was the IDT drivers. HP asked me to return the notebook to USA to repair it. Finally I've discovered this forum and the correction was the same Bigdaddycastle is advicing.
1 - Go to Control Panel -> Device Manager
2 - Click on Networks Adapters
3 - Double click on the wireless card
4 - Go to the advanced tab.
5 - Select from the list "Disable Bands"
6 - Select the a band from the list on the right side.
Problem fixed.

Please update the latest BIOS for your notebook from the support and driver download page on hp.com.

No sound when using HDMI to Vizio TV. HP Pavilion dv4-4310us

I just bought a Vizio HDTV and connected to my HP Pavilion dv4-4310us Entertainment Notebook. I have it connected through the HDMI output on the laptop and get great picture, but no sound! I have scoured the forums for Win 7, and here on HP's site...tried a few things but it seems I'm having a different problem than others. Other people have posted that they had sound before and now have no sound. This is my first time using the HDMI output to a TV... I'm running Win 7 Professional, the Audio is IDT, and I have all updated drivers for the Intel 4 Chipset, and the IDT Audio CODEC. I'm hoping someone can help with this! It's very frustrating. Thank you in advance.

Yeah. It kind of *****! But it is true, HDMI does not transmit sound, just video. Which it does well I must say.
What I did is I have surround sound and I plugged a cord that has male connectors on both sides and I plugged it into my amp on one side and my mcbook on the other, so now I can get sound onto my surround sound and also get the video images on my HDTV. =) If you have a surround sound system with an amp, I would recomend doing this. Its easiest.

Hp Pavilion DV4-1235ee No sound & Usb port not detecting.

In my laptop Hp Pavilion dv4-1235ee there is no sound coming from the internal speakers. If I connect external speaker its works fine. Usb port is not detecting now. any help will be appreciated.

What is the current Operating system on your notebook? I suspect we have issue with internal speaker on hand...but would like to reinstall the Audio Driver and check...

ISSUE ON HP Pavilion DV4 SERIES

I bought my HP Pavilion DV4 series in the US last 2009. The warranty has already expired.
On the first week of january my laptop experienced a problem. When I try to turn on my laptop, all the lights were blinking and the fan is still working. But the screen is still blank. Then a few seconds after I turn on my laptop, the fan suddenly stops and the screen is still blank. All the LEDs are lighted up except for the Processor indicator. I tried connecting a monitor to see if the screen is the problem. But there is still no output in the montior. I asked some technician regarding this and all of them told me that its a motherboard problem.
Could you please help me how can i resolve this? Did HP released a notice regarding this problem?

I am having the exact same issue. Just started about a week ago when I plugged a sound board into it to project the sound. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook, LED Error Code blinks everlasting

Hi
When I turn on my Pavilion dv4 Notbook the screen is black, the powersupply LED stays on, the Wifi LED is orange, Speaker LED is orange too and the volume adjustment LED is white.
The LED's near capslock and numlock blink. There is this site with several different LED error codes from 1 to 6 blinks. But mine blinks forever without stopping once it has started.
What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Thank you for the update on your issue is has helped. I agree with you based on what you just posted it definitely sounds like something has broken loose of the solder on your computer. The only thing I can suggest is you either contact HP Technical Support for repair options, or go to a local computer repair shop and have it looked at. If it is a hardware issue this is really your only option if you do not know how to do it yourself.

Help! Power trouble- pavilion Dv4

I'm a broke college student that saved up money for a good laptop. I bought a pavilion dv4 within the past few months. Just today, I had it on, working perfectly fine and left for work. When I came home, the power light was blinking but would not turn on no matter what I pushed. I plugged it in to charge it, assuming that was the problem. No luck. It makes a weird sound every two seconds and blinks. I researched it, and it said a lot about battery issues with that specific computer. I rarely shut it down. Did I overheat it or something? Please help, leaving for college in a far away state from home and need a working computer!

Unplug the power cord, remove the battery, hold the power button down to 30 seconds, connect power cord Only, see if it will power up.

Touchpad doesn't work - HP Pavilion DV4 - 2120ca

Touchpad doesn't work after cleaning out the dust collection in the fan, heat sink area. New Therma paste was applied.
Both the keyboard & touchpad were the 2 things that didn't work following reassembly. The keyboard didn't work but able to use USB wireless mouse. Couple days ago the replacement battery finally arrived, installed and charged for 12 hours. After restart, the keyboard works as it should.
Unfortunately, touchpad still doesn't work. The light switch above the touchpad works, clicking on it turns white & amber but any movement scrolling doesn't work.
We tried the following, but unsuccessful
double tapping top left corner
Hard Reset
Uninstalled ALPS & Synaptics -- reinstalled , restarted
Updated Windows, HP, BIOS, Drivers
Don't recall during reassembly if touchpad has a cable or connector. If so, perhaps worth try to disconnect & reconnect to ensure correct connection.
What do u advise to try next?

Did you connect the ribbon cable for the Touchpad. Often times there is one for the keyboard and one for the touchpad separately. Hopefully you have not damaged the ribbon cable. Just make sure you push it all the way in and seat it properly.

How do I troubleshoot a blue screen on a Pavilion dv4-1123us with "hardware malfunction call hardware vendor for support" message?

I would say its just a conicidence and recommend you to do a system restore. As its an intermittent problem, you never know if you face same issue once again.

Hp pavilion dv4-1123us Media Card won't read

I have a hp Pavilion dv4-1123us laptop that won't read a 16 GB SDHC media card. The card works in my PC, so the card is good. I have a Scandisk 5-1 media reader hooked to my home PC that would not read it but I found through Scandisk site I needed to download the latest Firmware which I did and now the card works on my PC. The reader has always and still does read a 512 MB and a 2 GB XD cards on my laptop. I am running XP Pro OS.
I have searched the HP site for driver downloads but only see them for Windows 7 and 8 not XP.
Can someone help me on this?

You’re having a problem not being able to read a 16GB SDHC card.
I think that your computer does not support the SDHC card.
Here is a link to your user guide and what cards it supports.
I noticed that it shows the Secure Digital but not the Secure Digital High Capacity.

It was possible in the old days
but laptop manufacturers found it more "profitable" to make it not, this way the user will have to buy a new laptop every few years.
there are some third party solutions but they aren't effective really

3F0 Error, Hard drive does not exist on Pavilion dv4.

I have a Pavilion Dv4 with windows 7 OS.
When I boot up the computer it tells me "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
I have done the F2 system diagnostics and once I get there click the Hard Disk Test which brings me to where it says "Hard Disk Not Exist. Press <ESC> to continue" and prcoceed to hit Esc where it tells me the Hard disk test failed and "Boot device not found (3F0)"
After which I restarted and hit F10 to get to the BIOS which I then went to Diagnostics and tried to run the "Primary Hard Disk Self Test" and then it says "Hard Disk Not Exist" still. The memory test runs fine passes and gives me no errors.
I have also done a hard reset and have re-seated the hard drive and NOTHING has worked. Help would be appreciated because this has been happening for a VERY long time (just happened to be after the warranty ran out, convienent eh?) and I lucky had my fiances older laptop which is very old.

The notebook is not able to recognize the Hard Drive.
Are you shure that warranty of your PC has ended? Keep in mind that warranty starts from the date that you buy the PC.
If the Hard Drive test shows that the test failed, you will have to get it replaced. I suggest you to call HP technical support and get their advice on the available options for service.

Laptop HP Pavilion dv4 after Restore to Factory Defaullt then not restart to windows, no error msg

Dear All,
I am using HP Laptop HP Pavilion dv4-1135ee,
Laptop for last more than 5-years is working, but now quite slow
So I went for Factroy restore, search in google for this help, found one easier way to restore is go to "my computer" right click, then select 'manage|", then to "disk managment" and make active "restore backup partition" and then restart the laptop.
Now Restore start automatically, without pressing F11-Key, I click yes for "Factory restore", continue next, twice laptop restart, then now again ragain laptop keep on restarting and show "windows Booting File", then one popup " Xwindows|systen32|cmd.exe - Startnet.cmd, then automatically popup close and Laptop restart, their is no error msg or failure.
How to resolve this problem

Hi,
It's a SIM card slot and it's for a SIM card. But to be able to fully utilize/utilise it you also need a WWAN card. What is the model of your machine ? dv4 is a series of many model, most of them do not have WWAN cards built-in.
