Sound works for 10 seconds

Just got my laptop back from the toshiba service depot of the many problems one was the speakers arent working. Sometimes randomly on bootup the sound will work but it only lasts for a short amount of time. The mute button on the laptop doesnt work but the light flashes showing I pressed it. I've uninstalled/reinstalled/updated the drivers and nothing happens, I have also read many posts none working.

You should always post your full model number and operating version when posting a problem.  If I hadn't just read another of your posts, I wouldn't have known what it was. People who are trying to help you shouldn't have to go searching for this info.  You've posted problems here before, and been asked for the same info, you should know better by now.
Were the speakers working for any length of time, after you got it back from the service depot? Did the service depot do a full Toshiba Recovery to return your system to its out-of-the-box condition?  You would know this because all your personal files/information would have been wiped out. Have you installed any Windows Updates since getting the laptop back, for instance Windows 7 SP1, or any other new driver/updates?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Sound works for all programs in Windows 7 (64-bit) except iTunes (64-bit) which stopped working after months of working fine.

Sound works fine for all programs on Windows 7 (64-bit) except recently 64-bit iTunes just stopped working.  I believe the sound stopped right after downloading the 10.5.1.42 version of iTunes.

    Sir,
I had the same problem with itunes 10.5 with creative labs sound card.  The only way I could solve it was to use the built in sound on my video card.  But needless to say I have a very high end video card, I have the NVIDIA GTX 580.  And after I used the sound on my video card everything worked great.

  • Why won't garageband work for second user account

I have recently had new hard drive installed in my iMac, after a lot of time recovering everything I have my main (admin) user account working fine, including garageband 11 working fine after having to go through the unistall and delete all the library files work around. But now when I add a second user account for my kids, i get the same problem I had earlier. It shouldn't be the same thing because all of those files were deleted. I have cleared out the lirary files in the ~user library as well just in case but still the same issue. I get the warning that garageband needs to download files to work, it seemingly downloads all the files, then installs them, gets to 100% installed and then crashes.

. I get the warning that garageband needs to download files to work, it seemingly downloads all the files, then installs them, gets to 100% installed and then crashes.
This looks like GarageBand is trying to install the additional content - loops, instruments - for  the new users all over again as well. This should not happen. All loops and instruments should have been installed in the system library for all users and not in your user library for you alone. Or there may be a permissions problem with the system library. Did you install all additional contents from an administrator account or a regular user account without administrator privileges?

    HI Lande,
There is nothing to delete. Here is what you should do:
Following procedure applies to both symptoms:
    1. Open the corresponding form in the original language in change mode in Form Builder
    2. Choose the Layout tab of Form Builder to open the form layout in Adobe Designer.
    3. Identify and select the concerned text element in the layout so that it will be highlighted in the hierarchy tree of the Adobe Designer
    4. Go to the XML Source tab of the Adobe Designer
The XML source shows the section of the selected form element.
         5. Go to the appropriate <exData/> element and delete the occurrence of attributes
         xft-xliff:id or xliff:rid
    6. Leave the XML source tab and save the changes.
    7. Activate the form.

But, if I come back and select another row in ALV, the table parameter <b>ET_ROW_NO</b> returns with no entries. Couldn't figure out myself. Can anybody please help me?

    Hi,
In your PBO during creation of your object, maintain a flag. Consider the following :
    IF FLAG = 'X'.
    CREATE OBJECT DUMMY....
    CALL METHOD DUMMY->SET_TABLE_FOR_FIRST_DISPLAY....
    ENDIF.
If you maintain this, the object will not be initialised every time.
Try this and if helpful reward points.

  • Windows XP SP3 on Qosmio X505 Q880, Conexant Sound [WORKS!]

I've gotten everything but sound to work. The problem seems to be that it doesn't show up AT ALL. Meaning if there was some "unknown device" to force a driver through, it would work! So I'm wondering if there is something obsolete about UAA 1.0a conpared to Windows 7's UAA. Or maybe its outside of 32bit address space?
Its frustrating, because everything else works PERFECTLY! (after a lot of trial and error)
I'll share what I've done so far, and I'll be working tirelessly to get the sound working for the forseeable future, since I've spent so much time on it already. This should be the exact same for any X505 series, since the chipsets are all the same.
*You need free space on your drive for a new partition. Many options here...partition magic, etc. Personally, the tiny SDD got annoying fast, so I threw it out replaced it with a 640GB. Ahh, 10 times the space. Sweet relief.
*You need the WinXP OEM/Retail XP disk files. An unzipped or mounted ISO will do. (You will also need a blank CD-R for the finished product)
*Download nLite, http://www.nliteos.com/download.html. Feed it where your windows files are.
*Since Win XP install crashes due to missing SATA drivers so we use nLite to "slipstream" them in:
Windows Installer text mode SATA drivers: (I had nLite put in every line item from this pkg)   http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18860&lang=eng
Regular Windows SATA drivers, so it actually boots once installed: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18180
Oh, if you want network access (YES YOU DO!)...slip in the wireless drivers: http://wikidrivers.com/wiki/Realtek_RTL8191SE/RTL8192SE
Be careful with the rest of the nLite settings, removing features might save a little space, but break stuff. Although the sizable language packs are a huge sitting duck, worth removing
*Install. When you format, do quick mode. The text mode drivers are SLOWWW and it will take an hour to finish.
*Open IE, go to nvidia.com, download drivers (yes the screen difficult to navigate because nVidia fails at life), 300*M* Series chip set, 360M   (MAKE SURE THE M's are there!).
*Run windows update from IE. Select custom, and select all the hardware updates. You'll now have everything but bluetooth, touchpad scrolling, and sound.
*If you want bluetooth, download the "Bluetooth Stack" from Toshiba Support Downloads.
*If you want touchpad scrolling/gestures, temporarily unplug any USB mice, and install this:
    http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_Signed_default.exe
    *LAST FREAKING STEP...Installing sound:.....not there yet.....hlep!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

YES!! It works!! Countless hours of pounding has paid off!
(The attachment says SOUND.TXT ....but if you rename it to SOUND.ZIP, things will make much more sense
Two major steps...the first one is the same no matter what your sound chip is, conexant, realtek, etc. The second one gets more specific.
Step 1: Patch Unified Audio Architecture (UAA), so it recognises sound card
Step 2: Install Driver for card
Sounds easy? Eh...kinda long and frought with problems, but persistance pays off.
The only problem is that you won't have sound until after you log in.
Use the files I attached and this should work straight off.
    0. Make sure all your hardware updates are run, because all that crap gets in the way, especially the NVIDIA HDMI sound devices, which can cause confusion.
    1. Download my attachment. (Just google for the files if it is gone)
EDIT: attachment didn't work...see my 3rd post below to recreate the files
Assuming you have XP SP3....we need to fake the Windows version so that it looks like SP2, so the new UAA wil install.
    2. Open and install SP2.reg. ALTERNATIVELY: If you don't like opening reg files, use regedit to change
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows  -> CSDVersion to "200" (hexadecimal)
    3. Run the UAA update, usually kb888111.exe
    http://cid-3f10d7c1771f7efe.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/MS-UAA%20for%20XP.zip
    4. Now we restore it back to SP3. Run XP3.reg, or regedit CSDVersion back to 300 hex.
    5. Reboot.
At this point there should be some new high def audio device begging for drivers. But,just our luck, there isn't. For some reason UAA will crash at boot, and its pretty good at that. So, we need to restart UAA.
    6. Get devcon and copy it into your root directory C:\ . (its from MS, resembles linux's lspci command).
This will do the legwork of starting UAA.
    7. Run UAAstart.bat. UAA should work now, and it should find your sound and ask for a driver. If not, edit the bat file, and correct the DEV_ number. You can get this number from Control Panel -> System -> Hardware (tab) -> Device Manager -> System devices -> "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" (there should be two of them, pick the bottom one) -> Details (Tab) -> Device Instance Id
(If you can't get the attachment, "devcon restart ..." where ... is the device ID)
EDIT: go down to my 3rd post for a more thorough treatment of devcon
    9. It should NOW be asking you a driver. (YES!)
This is where it gets more specific. The drivers here will work for X505 and several other models.
     http://cid-10d0e6e125be32c7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/6ha113ww%5E_mod.zip
You will need to edit the INF file to change it to have the same DEV_ and SUBSYS_ numbers as your "Unknown Device", get these from Device Manager -> Unknown High Definition Audio Device ->Details -> Device Instance Id. If the DEV_ numbers are off by more than afew, you might have the wrong driver.
For examlple, in the above zip, the TPShin5a.inf file has the following line:
    %HdAudioFunctionDriver.Pebble5071.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5067&SUBSYS_103C360A
In my case, I changed one of the lines to read
    %HdAudioFunctionDriver.Pebble5071.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5067&SUBSYS_1179FFD5
You'll notice more than one of those. You don't have to change them all, its just a list of chip IDs that tells Windows this driver will work.
    10. Point driver update to that directory.
    11. You should have sound! If you don't, make sure you have conexant chipset, if you don't use other drivers.
OK Problem, I'm sure you'll notice that you'll lose sound every time you reboot. Well,
    12. Copy that UAAstart.bat to the Start->Program Files-> Startup
That way it will force the sound to start when you log in.

  • Multiuser pulseaudio - works for 2 of 4 users

Ok, I'm pulling my hair out here. I've one computer setup for 4 different users (one dwm, 3 on xfce). Pulseaudio is working for 2 users...the dwm and 1 of the xfce users. I can't for the life of me get sound working for the other 2 users!! Users are NOT logged in simultaneously...just one at a time. Here's what I've tried:
    1. No one is in the audio group (per the pulseaudio perfect setup wiki)
    2. ck-list-session shows a valid ACTIVE session for each user when they are logged in. ck-launch-session is used for each user (in .xinitrc)
    3. I deleted the ~/.pulse and ~/.pulse.cookie, ~/.esd_auth, and /tmp/.esd-<user id> for each of the users where it doesn't work. These all get regenerated when they login, but pulseaudio still refuses to start for them...but works fine for the other 2 users!!
    4. pulseaudio is launched via the start-pulseaudio-x11 command (this is automatic for the xfce users, and in .xinitrc for the dwm user)
    5. Running the command 'start-pulseaudio-x11' from the terminal (when they are logged in to xfce) gives:
    E: main.c: Daemon startup failed.
If run the command 'pulseaudio'  I get:
    E: module-combine.c: Invalid slave sink 'alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.5.iec958-stereo'
    E: module.c: Failed to load module "module-combine" (argument: "sink_name=combined slaves=alsa_output.pci-0000_02_0a.0.analog-stereo,alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.5.iec958-stereo"): initialization failed.
    E: main.c: Module load failed.
E: main.c: Failed to initialize daemon.
The only modification to the pulseaudio configuration is adding a combined 'virtual' device in /etc/pulse/default.pa to send output from two soundcards simultaneously (one set of speakers hooked up to one, and the stereo system hooked up to the other). default.pa is here.
What am I missing?? Why would it be erroring on invalid slave sink for one user but not another??
    Thanks,
    Scott

Thanks for answering,  but I gave up on that machine and sent it back to XP Between the random lockups, inability to wake up from suspend to ram and the pulseaudio issue,  I just gave up on it. Ah well...it's the kids computer

Oh, and I tried every known way of starting pulseaudio with the same results for each. I should have deleted everything and started over.

  • Fixed my sound issues in KDE (no sound except for system events)

First, I'd like to say that I am by no means an expert and what I have below represents nearly a week of installing/reinstalling arch and trying various things to get my sound working correctly in KDE. In fact, yesterday I decided that I was just going to use mint because, even though I don't like it, at least the sound worked for me. I did decide to give it one more try this morning and finally was successful.
My system has an AMD A8-3850 processor, which I never would have bought if I had known all of the compatibility issues I would end up having with it. My problem was that I would hear event sounds in KDE (such as the start up sound) but I would get no sound within my browsers and flash and probably elsewhere. Also, even though I was hearing the system sounds, kmix showed my volume at 0% and that my device was muted. Trying to select the device in kmix didn't accomplish anything at all. Because of this, I had a feeling that the problem was that my sound was defaulting to my HDMI sound, which turned out to be right.
I'll try to be as brief as I can about the process I followed.
The first thing I did was get asoundconf from the AUR. I was then able to set my non-HDMI sound card as the default.
    johnr@bitstorm ~ % asoundconf list
    Names of available sound cards:
    Generic
    Generic_1
    johnr@bitstorm ~ % asoundconf set-default-card Generic_1
    johnr@bitstorm ~ %
From that point, I installed PulseAudio and worked my way through the PulseAudio page on the arch wiki. After which, I was able to bring up the PulseAudio Volume Control (pvaucontrol) and turn off my HDMI sound all together.
Still, my sound did not work, though. After some searching I came to this page: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwar … ktops/KDE/ which basically said that my kmix wasn't compiled with with pulse audio support. After a search for kmix on the AUR, I came to this package: kdemultimedia-kmix-git
After installing that, I reboot and all is right with the world... or at least my sound in KDE.
So that's it. I am sorry if this is poorly written, I do not write things like this very often. I was so happy, though, that I was actually able to fix it and I did want to share since I imagine that I am not the only one to have this problem.

    Hi @shayanaijaz
    Thank you for your reply.
Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7).  You can skip any steps you have previously done.
If after installing the original drivers from the recovery manager you still have an issue with the sound, I suggest you do a recovery back to factory.

During the recovery you will see an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.

You could also test the audio card just to rule that possibility out.
