Spam bots & e-mail links
Hi,
if I add an unprotected e-mail address to my pages, it's a real gift for spam bots.
Is a "masked" address safer? I mean, +"My Name"+ with "[email protected]" added as invisible URL? Will this masked address be found by spam bots, too?
And is the only solution to shredder the mail address to +"my.e.mail (at) me.com"+ ?
I've done it by using the HTML font code to change the font and color. It's a hit or miss thing. This demo page shows a snippet that I've applied it to:
The code is as follows as displayed here: 2 ways to encode an email address
<xmp>
<a id='contactMe'><font color="#0033FF" size="3" face="Georgia">Email Me</font></a>
<script type='text/javascript'>
Assemble Obfuscated email address and set div id='contactMe' href
ObsArray = new Array();
ObsArray.push('mai');
ObsArray.push('lto');
ObsArray.push(':');
ObsArray.push('my'); // your break up email address starts here
ObsArray.push('name');
ObsArray.push('@');
ObsArray.push('me');
ObsArray.push('.');
ObsArray.push('com'); // your break up email address ends here
function setContactMe() {
var ObfuscatedHref = '';
for (ii=0; ii<ObsArray.length; ii++) {
ObfuscatedHref += ObsArray[ii];
document.getElementById('contactMe').href=ObfuscatedHref;
chkEmail = setInterval('checkEmail()', 100);
function checkEmail() {
if (document.getElementById('contactMe') != null) {
clearInterval(chkEmail);
}}</script>
</xmp>
*(Ignore the <xmp></xmp> tags when using)*
See the code around the Email Me at the top? That's how to change the font, size and color. You can apply that to the test in a snippet. It would look like this: Email Me

I have created a form and using a PHP script to forward the
form results to an e mail account. How protected is this from
harvesting the e mail address by spam bots? If this is not the best
way to go, any suggestions on a better method. I'm familiar with
captcha but would prefer not to have to use this.
thnx
FredIf the email address is ONLY mentioned in the PHP script,
it's completely
secure.

I'm putting in email address' in our MUG's newsletter. In Pages I can create some text such as Chief Geek and in the hyperlink input mailto:[email protected] (Not real email address") to make it a live link. When I export to PDF the links work great in Preview what I'm wondering is if Spam Bots can pick up on the email address' when I do it this way? Otherwise I will have to change our address' to something more like
[email protected] and have them remove the NoSpam part.
Our PDF's are posted online on our website.Yes, the spam bots can pick it up. They can pick it up even if it is not a hyperlink in the pdf unfortunately.

Need to find a SPAM bot on the network
How can I use my PIX-515e firewall to locate the source of a SPAM bot on a network? The PIX is running v6.3.5.
How about creating an access list on your Inside interface, for traffic flowing from your internal network out to the Internet. Permit your internal mail servers to talk on smtp (port 25) outbound, and deny all other hosts. Then just look for the hosts that get DENYs on port 25.
You could/should also be looking at an IPS solution, either Cisco's or open source (eg. Snort.) I'd also suggest looking at BotHunter, which is a customized version of Snort thats tuned to -just- look for Bots. -
Whether with previous version of Firefox, or new one (3.6.4), when I open an Apple Mail link, Firefox opens 2 windows. Top window is blank, window behind it contains web page for mail link that I hit. I can't find anything in preferences of mail or Firefox to resolve this issue.

Every time Firefox openedI have discovered one solutionto my problem, which is not really convenient and is something I don't have to do with Safari 5 -- If I have Firefox open, but not a window open, then when I click on an Apple Mail link, only 1 window opens. But I don't always want to have my browser open, so this is kinda annoying. I'd rather not use Safari -- Firefox is so much better. Please fix this! Thanks.

Since updating Firefox browser, i am unable to gain access to my yahoo email account. I can access the email with Interent Explorer with no trouble. Whenever I click on a mail link on the yahoo sites to check my mail, I get rerouted to an error page ..... "Sorry, we can't find "ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?.gx=1". Please check the spelling of the web address." is what is said at top of page whenever I click on any mail links.
This is how I fixed it on my new iPhone 5S. Using the standard yahoo setting on my phone.
You will have to access "managing your app passwords" on your account profile for yahoo. Generate password for your app. For example: "My iPhone 5S'
Go to your Iphone and set up your yahoo mail account on your phone the normal way and you have to use the generated password. instead of the yahoo account password.

I hope this helps,

How can I use apple mail (linked to gmail) and get it to only do autofill on the contacts that I have in apple address book? Everytime I write an email on the Apple mail app (as well as in Gmail) it recommends a bunch of emails that are not my contacts. I want it to just autofill for the contacts that I have in my address book. Is this possible? Thank you. I have an Imac Intel version and an Iphone 5 phone.

How do I send an e-mail link?

ICal Bug: "Show in Mail" link is broken
When creating a new calendar item from within mail (Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)) (Mail Version 8.1 (1993)) the "Show in Maill..." link opens the incorrect email. In fact, every "Show in Mail..." link from every calendar event points to the exact same email. Using right-click "Copy Link", EVERY calendar event with a "Show in Mail..." link has the same link: message:%[email protected]%3E
I have since deleted that email and now all the links point to a blank email: a window opens with the same menu title as the original email, but the window is entirely empty.
The problem is NOT with Mail. It is with iCal. This is because even calendar events created months before that email now have the same link.Same problem. It does not always open the same incorrect email. I haven't figured out the pattern. It seems to find one of the most recent emails that should be linked to a DIFFERENT calendar event.
I only notice it when trying to click the "Show in mail" link.
This feature is very valuable when it works. It used to be reliable on my MacBook Pro, but on iOS it would often transfer me to an email box but not to the specific email, which was useless.
Now it seems to work on iOS, but not on my Mac. I think the problem began with my Yosemite upgrade, but not sure.
This is a problem for me because I love creating events from emails. -
"Show in Mail" link in To-Dos - can't get rid of, like a virus
Hello!
I use To-Dos in iCal intensively.
But strange thing started to happen - all my To-Dos magically get "Show in Mail" link in URL field.
When I enter a new To-Do - everything is fine,
but after a couple of days "Show in Mail" link sticks to it again.
(This link takes you to nowhere).
And I can't get rid of it any other way then just by deleting "infected" To-Do.
Please help.I think I've got it fixed....I "reset" my mail program, I deleted my mailbox then re-created it and I'm all set for now.

Is the 'set as default' greyed out? This means it is already set as default. -
"Mail link to this page" does not search within my exchange account
Hello all,
When I try to e-mail a web page from within Safari using the "Mail link to this page", I only get to search for e-mail addresses in my MobileMe account. Backtracking by clicking the "back arrow" to see all groups and what I assumed would be a possibility to change to my Exchange account only results in an empty window.
if I open the mail program manually and just enter the recipient names there are no cross account search issues. However, this method requires a lot of copy/paste back and forth between Safari and the mail program and is definitely not considered ease of use in my eyes.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to fix it? Or do I need to wait for a fix from Apple.Have not seen this problem with more recent iOS releases. Particularly, the ability to cancel an Email and save it as a Draft would seem to render this moot. Thanks for the feature add.
