Specific query, stored procedure

Post Author: Alfonso Calderon

Hello, good day.
I am new in crystal report for vs 2003, I have several querys to get some information comming from an access aplication now migrated to vb 2003, so in access I can make reports from views and querys, does anyone knows how can I do this in Crystal?
How can I create a report from an stored procedure?
Thanks and best regards.

The first question isn't easy to answer without knowing how you've designed your report.  Generally, there are 2 models for a datasource for a report, Pull Model, and Push Model.  Pull Model is where you connect directly to a database and add tables/stored procs/views to a report and the when you preview the report it connects to the datasource and returns data.  The Push Model is where you design a report against an ADO.NET DataSet schema (.xsd) and at runtime push a populated DataSet/DataTable object to the report.  So the design of your report will dictate how you populate the report from your stored proc.
Again, there is lots of info on the BOBJ devlibrary that shows you your databaes connectivity options and samples on how to get render your report with data from your stored proc.  You may need to read through some of the content before you get what you're looking for.  The same goes for setting values for your parameters, it's all in the online help.
You can also download samples applications that show you your database options (push vs pull) and setting parameter values.  Search for CR .NET Samples from the BOBJ support site and you can download a package of samples you can look at.

  • MySQL to DreamWeaver connectivity issue specific to Stored Procedures

    Hi there,
    I have a MySQL to DreamWeaver connectivity issue specific to
    Stored Procedures.
    The driver I am currently using is
    mysql-connector-java-5.1.5-bin.jar.
    Although basic row and column tree is exposed in Adobe
    DreamWeaver 8's Application Pallette, my stored procedure is not.
    My serverside technology is Coldfusion(MX7).
    My environment is:
    Server: MS Windows 2003 (Small Business Server) using IIS.
    Client: MS Window XP-Pro.
    According to the driver documentation
    mysql-connector-java-5.1.5-bin.jar appears to be capable of
    handling stored procedures:
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/connector-j-useagenotes-basic.html#connector-j-exam ples-stored-procedure
    I could be wrong but the evidence suggests that support for
    this feature is not available from Adobe.
    I have already invested a certain amount of time in this
    sub-project. I would, therefore, be most grateful to anyone who can
    provide me with a solution to this.

    OK.
    Figured out the 'stored proceedure' problem. I had two 'Connection' folders, one of which was a sub-folder, that pointed to the same database but with slightly different configuration details. Removed the 'wrong' folder and all seems to be sorted.

  • To connect a datablock to a query - stored procedure: problem

    I have the following table...
    CREATE TABLE I_TIPOLOGIA (
    CODICE NUMBER(6),
    DESCRIZIONE VARCHAR2(100),
    CONSTRAINT I_TIPOLOGIA_PK PRIMARY KEY (CODICE) );
    and the following package to connect a datablock to
    previous table with a stored procedure...
    CREATE or REPLACE PACKAGE DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE AS
    TYPE TipTableOfRec IS TABLE OF I_TIPOLOGIA%ROWTYPE;
    PROCEDURE leggi(resultset IN OUT TipTableOfRec);
    END DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE;
    CREATE or REPLACE PACKAGE BODY DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE AS
    PROCEDURE leggi(resultset IN OUT TipTableOfRec) AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT * BULK COLLECT INTO resultset
    FROM I_TIPOLOGIA;
    END leggi;
    END DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE;
    When I compile the form I receive in QUERY-PROCEDURE trigger
    en error 306: "number or type of arguments are wrong in POPULATE_BLOCK"
    I post the trigger auto generated by Forms Builder 6i...
    DECLARE
    bk_data DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE.TIPTABLEOFREC;
    BEGIN
    DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE.leggi3(bk_data);
    PLSQL_TABLE.POPULATE_BLOCK(bk_data, 'BLOCCO50'); -- <- error here
    END;
    How can I solve this problem? Maybe there is a bug?
    P.S. I'm using Oracle Database 9i

    CREATE or REPLACE PACKAGE DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE AS
    TYPE TipTableOfRec IS TABLE OF I_TIPOLOGIA%ROWTYPE;
    PROCEDURE leggi(resultset IN OUT TipTableOfRec);
    END DATABANKER_TIPOLOGIE;I have solved with this replacement 1) -> 2)
    1) TYPE TipTableOfRec IS TABLE OF I_TIPOLOGIA%ROWTYPE;
    2) TYPE TipTableOfRec IS TABLE OF I_TIPOLOGIA%ROWTYPE
    INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    with 2) now works.
    Now I have stored-procedures for query, insert, delete
    and update.
    I have some problems with delete and update of the records
    because it seems that they are locked.
    I think that it is due to the absence of lock
    stored-procedure... there's someone that can help me with
    the lock SP implementation?

  • Need Help in with Querying Stored Procedures from UCCX Database

    Hi All
    We are trying to build a custom reporting solution using a BI tool and for which we have provided the ODBC connectivity to the UCCX database to our SQL server.
    We have installed the ODBC drivers on our SQL server and made a connection to UCCX version 10.0 successfully. we are using the username 'uccxhruser' to connect to the DSN.
    We want to query the stored procedure sp_csq_activity from the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. When we add the Linked Server in the SQL Server, we are able to see the Data Tables and also query them using the select statement. However, we are not able to see any of the Stored procedures within the Linked Server Tab.
    Can someone guide us in the right direction as to how to go about the process. Is calling the stored proedure the right way or we need to query the individual tables as mentioned in the Database Schema Guide and then once the historical tables our there in our server , then build the report.
    Any help will be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Abhinav

    Hi,
    what happens if you try to execute the above SP? They should be accessible AFAIK.

  • How do i fire a query/Stored procedure only once

    Hi,
    I have a master frame and multiple child frames. Master frame triggers child1 frame which triggers child 2 frame etc using some common keys between the frame.
    Now each frame executes a stored procedure and then uses the Db2 cursor as a record set. However when the same frame is fired again then the stored procedure is triggered again. But i could very well use the same record set from the record set that i already have,
    In other words i need to fire the stored procedure/query only once and not every time the frame is fired.
    I just need to get the record set for each frame and then operate on the retrieved record sets.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Currently I experience serious performance issues as the stored procedures get fired repeatedly thousands of times
    Any help will be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    I am still haveing problems so I will try and attach my program and see if you can help a little more that. It will probably be easier for you to look at this way. When you look at the diagram sequence 0 is the one the problem is in. In that sequence you will see a case structure and that is where the finite pulse train vi is. When case 1 is selected the finite pulse train will run again and again until I leave case 1. I need to have the program run the finite pulse train once and then wait and do nothing until the case is changed. The finite pulse train will be in all cases inside the case structure I just haven't done that yet, I am waiting until it works. The pulse train is used to move a stepper motor that is why running only once is im
    portant because the stepper motor is used to position something.

  • Would RollBacks For Stateless Session Beans work In case of Stored Procedures or Triggers Written in Oracle PL/SQl

              We are writing a J2EE application and using Weblogic 5.1 on Unix machine. We are
              considering writing some Stored Procedures or Triggers on Oracle DBMS. Hence our
              Stateless Session Beans / Data Access Objects (DAOs) would be calling those stored
              procedures, which would reside on Oracle 8.1.7 (on Windows 2000). (These Data
              Access Objects are running under the umbrella of a Stateless Session Beans). We
              are using WebLogic's Connection Pooling.
              Our question is: Would we get reliable rollbacks from our stored procedures. I
              mean would the Transaction Management process of the EJB container work. Remember
              the SQL is written in the Database (Oracle in this case) in the form of Stored
              Procedures / Triggers through PL/SQL.
              Any ideas or tips would help.

              I would agree with Cameron Purdy. Be very cautious to use Oracle specific
              Triggers / Stored Procedures. Consider following, (apart from what he said):
              1. Unreliable behaviour of the Oracle JDBC drivers, specially 8.1.6 family..
              (You may visit the Oracle's web site and see the newsgroups for the JDBC drivers).
              This is enough of a reason to stop right there.
              However for interest sake you may consider following issues:
              2. By use of Oracle specific Triggers / SPs the application will not be portable.
              Vendor Lock In. Remember your choice for J2EE compliant Server (WebLogic in this
              case). The whole purpose would be defeated by going for this option.
              3. There are issues related to the extensibility of the application. I have
              my reservations and would hold my breath on two phase commit protocol transactions
              being reliable in this scenario.
              Have fun...

  • Calling a Stored Procedure with output parameters from Query Templates

    This is same problem which Shalaka Khandekar logged earlier. This new thread gives the complete description about our problem. Please go through this problem and suggest us a feasible solution.
    We encountered a problem while calling a stored procedure from MII Query Template as follows-
    1. Stored Procedure is defined in a package. Procedure takes the below inputs and outputs.
    a) Input1 - CLOB
    b) Input2 - CLOB
    c) Input3 - CLOB
    d) Output1 - CLOB
    e) Output2 - CLOB
    f) Output3 - Varchar2
    2. There are two ways to get the output back.
    a) Using a Stored Procedure by declaring necessary OUT parameters.
    b) Using a Function which returns a single value.
    3. Consider we are using method 2-a. To call a Stored Procedure with OUT parameters from the Query Template we need to declare variables of
    corresponding types and pass them to the Stored Procedure along with the necessary input parameters.
    4. This method is not a solution to get output because we cannot declare variables of some type(CLOB, Varchar2) in Query Template.
    5. Even though we are successful (step 4) in declaring the OUT variables in Query Template and passed it successfully to the procedure, but our procedure contains outputs which are of type CLOB. It means we are going to get data which is more than VARCHAR2 length which query template cannot return(Limit is 32767
    characters)
    6. So the method 2-a is ruled out.
    7. Now consider method 2-b. Function returns only one value, but we have 3 different OUT values. Assume that we have appended them using a separator. This value is going to be more than 32767 characters which is again a problem with the query template(refer to point 5). So option 2-b is also ruled out.
    Apart from above mentioned methods there is a work around. It is to create a temporary table in the database with above 3 OUT parameters along with a session specific column. We insert the output which we got from the procedure to the temporary table and use it further. As soon the usage of the data is completed we delete the current session specific data. So indirectly we call the table as a Session Table. This solution increases unnecessary load on the database.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Rajesh

    Rajesh,
    please check if this following proposal could serve you.
    Define the Query with mode FixedQueryWithOutput. In the package define a ref cursor as IN OUT parameter. To get your 3 values back, open the cursor in your procedure like "Select val1, val2, val3 from dual". Then the values should get into your query.
    Here is an example how this could be defined.
    Package:
    type return_cur IS ref CURSOR;
    Procedure:
    PROCEDURE myProc(myReturnCur IN OUT return_cur) ...
    OPEN myReturnCur FOR SELECT val1, val2, val3  FROM dual;
    Query:
    DECLARE
      MYRETURNCUR myPackage.return_cur;
    BEGIN
      myPackage.myProc(
        MYRETURNCUR => ?
    END;
    Good luck.

  • Enter Query Mode with Block Based on Stored Procedure

    How can I get the ENTER QUERY mode to work when the data block is based on a stored procedure?

    Thank you for your review.
    Because the package is long, I stripped most of it out, but left the basics. After I stripped out the code, I ran the new code under a new user. Under the new user I built I new form, tested it, and I still cannot use the ENTER QUERY mode to retrieve the correct record. Query always returns the first record. I have included table structure and 3 test records.

  • Can not delete data from table which is queried in my stored procedure

    Hi,
    Anyone knows how to fix it:
    I have a table. In a stored procedure, I have a simple query running on this table.
    When I want to delete one record from that table, I got error message:
    ORA-04091: table *** is mutating, trigger/function may not see it.
    Thanks first.

    Rick, the only time you should get a mutating table error is when a trigger is involved. FK problems have separate error codes (and would be a different problem than the one that started this thread). Using a DBA id check all the tables subject to DML by your function and by whatever calls your function for triggers. Only the owner or a DBA can see the existence of triggers on a non-owned table. This has caused some of the developers I work with to think tables that had triggers do not have them since they do not work under the owning or a DBA ID.
    By your description of what you are trying to do in the function we do that all the time without problem.
    How large is the function? How/When is it called?

    Why can't you use a function?
    Suppose you could use a procedure. What results would you want to see from:
    SELECT  my_proc (4, 5)
    FROM    dual
    ;? Why?
    Explain what you want to do, and somebody will help you find a good way to do it.

  • Running a SQL Stored Procedure from Power Query with Dynamic Parameters

    Hi,
    I want to execute a stored procedure from Power Query with dynamic parameters.
    In normal process, query will look like below in Power Query. Here the value 'Dileep' is passed as a parameter value to SP.
        Source = Sql.Database("ABC-PC", "SAMPLEDB", [Query="EXEC DBO.spGetData 'Dileep'"]
    Now I want to pass the value dynamically taking from excel sheet. I can get the required excel cell value in a variable but unable to pass it to query.
        Name_Parameter = Excel.CurrentWorkbook(){[Name="Table3"]}[Content],
        Name_Value = Name_Parameter{0}[Value],
    I have tried like below but it is not working.
    Source = Sql.Database("ABC-PC", "SAMPLEDB", [Query="EXEC DBO.spGetData Name_Value"]
    Can anyone please help me with this issue.
    Thanks
    Dileep

    Hi,
    I got it. Below is the correct syntax.
    Source = Sql.Database("ABC-PC", "SAMPLEDB", [Query="EXEC DBO.spGetData '" & Name_Value & "'"]
    Thanks

  • Query Timeout on stored procedure executed from Access 2010

    I am trying to delete old jobs from a SQL 2008 R2 database. I created a stored procedure on the server that deletes all Jobs over 1 year old. The delete can take several minutes to run as it deletes record on several related tables. I am getting a error
    "2147217871 - [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Query timeout expired". The query runs fine on the Server. I have tried setting Client timeout to 300 sec but it times out way before 5 min. I am not sure what else I
    can do to fix this problem. I am hoping someone has seen this and figured out a fix.
    Here is there code
    Public Sub Cleanup_Database()
    On Error GoTo CleanUp_Err
        Dim cmd As ADODB.Command
        Set cmd = New ADODB.Command
        ODBC_conn = "ODBC;Description=testbox2;DRIVER=SQL Server;" & _
                    "SERVER=O2GMSAPPTEST\SQL122DEVL;Trusted_Connection=Yes;" & _
                    "APP=Microsoft Office 2010;DATABASE=IMB_TraceData;StatsLog_On=Yes"
        cmd.ActiveConnection = ODBC_conn
        cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
        cmd.CommandText = "DataBase_Cleanup"
        cmd.Execute
    CleanUp_Err:
        Dim i As Long
        Dim str As String
        str = ""
        For i = 0 To Errors.Count - 1
            str = str & Errors(i).Number & "-" & Errors(i).Description & " " & vbNewLine
        Next i
        If str = "" Then
            str = Err.Number & " - " & Err.Description
        End If
        MsgBox str, , "Trace Update"
    End Sub

    You didn't say how you were setting the client timeout, but this has worked for me in an adp.
    'Temporarily increase query timeout, which is an application-wide setting
    'CurrentProject.Connection.CommandTimeout = 60 'Too late to change this setting- no effect
    Const cstrTimeoutOptionName As String = "OLE/DDE Timeout (Sec)"
    Const clngTimeoutSecondsForQuery As Long = 300
    strQueryTimeOutOriginal = Application.GetOption(OptionName:=cstrTimeoutOptionName)
    Application.SetOption cstrTimeoutOptionName, CStr(clngTimeoutSecondsForQuery)
