Spinning ball while burning dvd's.......why

for some reason my dvd burner is getting hung up in the middle of burning process. not only is that happening but i'll have to force quit it and the kernel panic appears and when i restart it says os x had unexpectedly quit. i've repaired permission with several apps burning still gets all tweaked out for some reason... please reply if you can point me in the direction on how to do a fix

If you do a lot of burning and you haven't clearsed out your system cache this could be your issue.
When I do a lot of burning I have to run 3 programs before I am able to continue and the are Macjanitor.

There are several files that are stored on your computer that need to be cleaned out all 3 otf these do similar funtions as well as specific funtions the others do not.
As I said I have had to do this after I copy 4 movies because of the build up.
Another note of interest, When burning DVD's I suggest you do that funtion by itself I wouldn't do anything else PERIOD.
Be sure you are using a good MEDIA to burn with.I suggestone of the Newer like Maxell DVD-R 16 this is only one of the newer media's on thee market that will allow you to burn from 1X through 16X so it will work on the older burners as well as the new ones.
Good Luck and tell us how you fare.
One last thing have a look at this link on DVD's and Media.

  • Spinning ball while mail loads?

Is it normal in Mail for the beach ball to spin simply while it is loading new messages? If so, I have a new app to dump. I hope it is just a setting I need to adjust. Thanks

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail. It can't hurt.

I've had a problem with my SuperDrive burning DVD's. I succeeded in burning CD's a while ago, but DVD's now. The error message 0X8002006D is popping up. What's does the error code mean? Could the laserlens be dirty or...?

Read this thread. You might try a lens cleaner.

  • Unknown Error While Burning DVD

I've had hit and miss issues burning DVDs from the timeline in PP CS2 in the past, usually resolved. This time, a consistant unknown error has come up at the same point in the burn process regardless of the project, duration or file type.
Since I will eventually install CS5 after my current project is complete, it isn't critical that I find a solution. I only use this feature to make test DVDs, but I am curios as to why this may be happening at the same point no matter what footage or project file I use. One thing I know, it isn't about basic system capabilities since I was able to burn projects, come back later (days or weeks later) without changing anything and not be able to burn the same project. This may be about cache, something taking up RAM or scratch disk size. Screen savers and all extra stuff have been turned off.

If CS3 gives you the option, write an ISO file, or DVD folder, and use Imgburn to do the actual disc writing

Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no DVD player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help

  • Spinning ball while scrolling through subjects of the in-box

It's getting more often when the Mail is reacting very slowly while I go scroll through the in-box. The spinning ball appears and stays for a long period of time. I first thought it has to do with the heavy contents of the e-mails, but I notice it is also happening while going through the text only e-mails.
Does it have to do with the amount of messages in the in-box ( I have over 2800 messages )?
Any similar experience and any solution? Thanks.

Although using Inbox for archiving purposes is a bad idea, 2800 messages aren’t that many, so that by itself shouldn’t be a problem.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
This is probably an index issue. You may want to try the following:

  • Spinning ball while the hard drives warm up

    Hi guys,
I have a G-Tech 1TB (Firewire 800) hard drive, a 500GB (Firewire 400) drive and two internal sata drives (not striped together) I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse.
If I leave the computer alone for a few minutes, each time I return to FCP, I have to wait for the spinning ball to stop. It sounds like the hard drives are warming up again, but its really annoying having to wait so often. I am working in a long project of 90 minutes length, but this also happens in shorther projects as well.
I have unchecked the 'put the hard drives to sleep as often as possible' and set the energy saver to 1 hour but no difference.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks as always.
    Stephen - UK

you can minimize occurrences of the SBBOD due to hard drive sleep by making BOTH of the following selections in the Sleep tab of Energy Saver preferences:
    1. select "Never" for System sleep, and
    2. de-select "Put the hard drive to sleep when possible".
in Tiger, this is GUI equivalent of sending the "pmset" command in the terminal with the argument disksleep 0
or you could just jump straight into the terminal app (/Applications/Utilities/) and use the command
    sudo pmset -a spindown 0

  • Unknown error 2130906112 while burning DVD in Premiere Elements

Hi am trying to burn a DVD using Premiere Elements 3.0. My computer will go through the lengthy process of attempting to burn the CD. At the very end, the drive pops the DVD out and I get a message that states: Unknown error 2130906112. I have burned successfully in the past, but am unable to now. I have tried to do this about 7 times with this specific project and have had no success. I have used two different types of DVD+R (Memorex and Verbatim). My project is approximately 56 minutes long. Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated!!!!

    Great news!
I just can't see which is highlighted while doing so. I think it has to do with the template I chose in Premiere Elements while designing the movie.
The lack of the Sub-picture Highlights (the official name for the indicators of which Button one has navigated to), could be caused by several things:
1.) the inability of the PS3 to adequately display them. Like I said earlier, most people, that I know, use the PS3's for BD playing. The specs. are different for those, as opposed to the DVD-specs. I just do not know about the PS3.
2.) could be a problem with the Template. Which one did you choose? I'll be glad to check it out (if PrE4 has it) and report any issues that I find. Did you modify this Template, say in Photoshop/PSElements? Could be that one of those modifications turned ON all Sub-picture Highlights.
3.) could be a problem with the "authoring" phase of the Project. This is after the editing, and is where one assembles the Assets (Menus, etc.) and does the navigation. As PrE is semi-automatic, it does most of this for the user, with little intervention. Still, there could be ways to accidently mess something up here, though it's highly unlikely. Now, in my authoring program, all is done by hand, so I have hundreds of opportunities to make a mess of a Project - PrE shields the user from most of these.
    Now, to your questions:
Can I use the Img software for all burning projects including CDs?
Yes. You can do most forms of burning, including CD's (Audio, Video or Data), so long as you have the right types of files.
What is the best way to organize and store my video files?
This is the $64,000 question. So much depends on what one has, how they are likely to need to access them and what equipment they either own, or wish to purchase. I'll give you my scheme, though it might be overkill for you. Still, you can get an idea and are free to adapt any part of it for your needs.
I work with several types of Assets: original (or stock) still images, Captured (stock, or client-supplied) motion, Audio (original, stock or extracted from the previously mentioned motion Assets, Menus (Templates and original creations), Titles (same) and then my Projects.
I keep the originals on both a NAS (Networked Attached Storage) drive that is networked to all of my computers, and also on external storage HDD's. I also back up to DVD-Data discs. For Captured, original Video, I also store all tapes and do NOT overwrite/reuse any. I only work with Copies of any of the Assets (the Captures are probably the exception, as I have the tapes, should I need to re-Capture).
I use several media browsers to organize my Assets. I then locate those necessary for a Project, and create a folder structure for that Project. Copies of the Assets are placed in that folder structure, beneath the Project name. Again - these are Copies, in case something happens.
Depending on what I need to do, the Scratch Disks (set with Edit>Preferences) are usually kept within the Project's folder structure too. Same for Exports. As I use a different program to author DVD's (Adobe Encore), I create my Encore Project within this structure too. The files that I Export from PrPro (my NLE of choice), are the ones that I then Import into Encore for authoring the Project.
When done, I Archive the editing Project and also the Encore Project, to another external drive. I will always make one additional copy of my output DVD as a backup, as I can use ImgBurn, or another utility, to Copy DVD.
After all of this, I can then safely Delete my entire Project folder from the system. Remember, it contains no origianl Assets (other than Captured materail), as I have everything on the NAS, plus an external, plus the backup DVD-Data disc. Right now, I have about 30 1 - 2TB external HDD's that I use. Some are for backup, and some are to allow me to move my Projects between my laptop or my workstation.
Hope that this helps. As I said, it's probably overkill, but much of the work that I do is for clients. If they come back with a change, or a problem, I want to be able to help them immediately.
    Good luck and good questions,
    Hunt

  • Getiing error=50 while burning dvd

i keep getting an error =50 when using roxio while im burning a dvd of photos and little mvi files from my camera. i just finished burning one folder and that went well. but now im burning a different folder and as its encoding it stops and shows me this error. when i look it up it says this is usually an itunes error. how do i find out what is wrong with this folder? is it really a mac os x error=50 or is there a corrupt file in this folder?

Hi. Same problem with my new macbook.
Tried two RI-DISC 8x certified, same error.
Tried again with a lower quality PRINCO DVD 4x, with no errors, just a slowdown to 2x.
Tried with 2 Verbatim 16x cerified without "anomalies".
Tried finally once more with RI-DISC 8x : success
I guess the first 2 discs were damaged, maybe some scratches on them, and maybe the matshita unit on my macbook is a little bit "ticklish" , just to use an euphemism

I have faced a problem with my M30-842. Several times I have tried to erase burned on my laptop DVD-RW and Nero would say "Burn process failed. Power calibration error". So I cannot erase or continue multisession DVD-RWs.
    Burning CDs is ok.
Please help me with the problem, how can I solve it? SOS!

    Hi Semen
Can you please try to use roxio software built into Windows XP? There is also the same option. It will be interesting to know if this problem is caused by software that you use or if there is some malfunction of your device.

  • Already burned dvd, wondering why is needs to redo menus, etc next time

This may be a dumb question but wondering, I already burned a movie to dvd and then closed the program, is there a way to burn a copy of the same movie without having to wait for the menus, audio, etc. to encode. If it already did it once wouldn't all that be saved somewhere.

Lab Lover, I have just had to burn 10 (ten) copies of the DVD of my son's wedding, for sundry family and extended family members. I can now recite all the speaches word-perfect.
I was unaware of the risks to the burner mentioned by Sue thanks Sue), so I am glad that I burnt them all from a disk image (using Toast), two at a time, with a few hours in between to get other stuff done.
They all worked perfectly. Burned at 2x, using Verbatim (until I ran out of stock) and Fuji 8x DVD-R.

  • Spinning ball Safari extravaganza!

    Hi all,
I often have the spinning ball in Safari, and its usually with flash things going on, but I never have the spinning ball in Google Chrome!
Why doesn't Apple fix this? I love Safari, but it's testing my patience.
And please don't try to make me fix this with a flash blocker or cache clearing, all my Macs have this problem, my friends Mac also.
    Have a great day

  • Disappearing Dock + Spinning Ball with 10.6.8

Only recently and now all the time, I'm losing my dock on my Macbook Pro, and getting the spinning ball while doing practically anything.  At the same time as the ball appears, the harddrive runs like it's trying to do something.  I have to reboot to get it back to half normal, and that doesn't always bring the dock back.
And, during the dock malfunction, has anyone else noticed a tiny white light in the bottom left corner flickering like a harddrive status LED?
Has Apple gone off it's rocker?  Or is there a virus I'm not aware of?

If you have Parallels or VM Fusion installed you should upgrade to the newest version to fix the Dock problem.
If the above doesn't apply to you then try removing the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist file. Then open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    killall Dock
    Press RETURN.
