Split front panel into 2 parts

Hi
I need to spli the front page into 2 parts. On top I need to put a question with picture which are fixed and on bottom a page with scroll to go up and down I would like to put all my indicators and controls in that part but as I said the top part should be fixed and no one go up or down by the scroll of bottom page.

really sorry for my late reply
many thanks for your help
just I have a problem.I have splitted my front page into 3 sections .In one section I put a waveform Graph the in the properties of the control I have selected "Fit Control to Pain" so the scroll bar for that pain disappered then I saved my file
after that I have made many changed and now I would like to have scroll bars in that pain again to scroll vertically and have many waveform graph controls but it is not possible and I cant get back scroll bars.Would uu please let me know is it possible to have scrolls for that pain again or I have to do all the design again.
Many thanks

  • A way to group front panels into one panel?

    Hi all,
To control our setup we need a number of Vis. Each Vi has, of course, it is own front panel and the end result on the monitor is a mess of overlapping front panels. My Question: is there a clever way to combine all of the panels into one central control panel?
    Thanks in advance

You can add subpanels to your main VI, and load the sub-vi's in those subpanels.

  • My front panel is causing my vi to run at the wrong frequency.

My vi worked fine before I made my front panel into a useful GUI. The code was not changed only decorations, colors and position was changed. Now my vi will not operate at the correct frequency. I know this because I should be sending out a bit pattern at 25Hz and the oscope shows a change with the new vi. If I reduce this vi to 1/2 screen and the view the top of the front panel the vi runs fine as soon as I view the lower part of the front panel or go to full screen the frequency is wrong. I also found that by deleting two large decorative boxes the vi ran fine. I have played with the graphics settings and the only thing that helps is setting the resolution to 848x480 then the vi runs fine but looks funny.
Any suggestions? Windows 2000 with LabView 6.1.

Sounds like you are low on memory or CPU.
Make sure you display is set for 16-bit color.
Make sure none of the indicators are over-lapping.

  • Conditionally include Front Panel of a Subvi in an EXE

I want to make two versions of an EXE, one "normal" version and a debug version. I know how to set conditional disable symbols via pre/post build actions (btw. NI: these variables should REALLY be defineable per build specification; even bare command line C compilers are easier to use in that regard than Labview).
The "normal" version won't show anything but the main vi. The front panels shouldn't even be included in the exe. For the debug version I want to show the front panels on request (I've queues for sending that to the subvis). Simply calling "FP.open" does not work with an compiled exe, because I get a "resource not found" error (the front panel of the subvi is not compiled into the exe). I tried setting show "frontpanel when called" which forces the FP to be compiled into the exe, but then the FP will shortly flash on the screen, even when the first command of the subvi is hiding the frontpanel.
How can I make a subvi depending on a conditional disable symbol include its front panel into the exe without forcing it to show its frontpanel at the same time?

There are a number of things which cause LV to keep a FP when building. These include things like open when called (which you understandably don't like), but also various things which statically require the front panel. Things like changing the scrollbar settings or creating a property node for a control on the FP. Personally, my preference is for the latter because you can document it better.
If you don't actually mind whether the FP is included, you can just do that and be done with it. If you really do mind, you can check whether placing the property node for the control in a conditional disable structure has an impact on this or not. I have no idea whether it does or not, since I don't know exactly how LV will treat the code in the disabled case.
The other alternative is making two builds and configuring it for each VI:
The disadvantage here is that you have to manage two builds and do this manually for each VI.
If you want, there's a related idea on the idea exchange, but it won't actually help in your case, because it's not conditional:

  • Reference to control on main front panel fails when subvi front panel is closed?

    Hi All,
I'm experiencing an odd bug. In my code, I use a subvi to control a piece of hardware. This subvi has controls for all of the functions of my hardware.
I'm changing the value of one of these controls from my main front panel by running a reference to a knob on my main front panel into the subvi, grabbing the value of the knob with a property node, and then updating the value of the subvi control using a signaling property node.
This works fine when my subvi front panel is open but fails to work at all when the subvi front panel is closed.
I'm new to labview , so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

    What is your LabVIEW version?
Front panels that are not shown are typically not updated and might not even be loaded into memory.
The presence of certain code elements (e.g. property nodes) often forces the front panel to be in memory even if it is not shown, but I haven't studied it in a long time so there might be subtleties. Maybe somebody from NI can give more details.
If it does not work unles the FP is open, open the front panel minimized to avoid distraction.
Can you attach some code? Maybe there are better ways to do all this anyway.

  • Opening multiple sub VIs (front panels) in an application

    Hi,
I am working on a small process control application. The main VI represents a layout of various equipment (pumps, valves, heat exchangers). Each TYPE of equipment
can be turned on/off through a particular subVI. The subVI is displayed when the operator clicks on the component.  At the moment only one subVI front panel can be loaded. I would like to have multiple panels open at the same time; this to include multiple instances of a same VI and different subVIs.
I have tried to set properties in the WindowsApperance dialog box but cannot acheive the desired operation.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Trust my personal experience: You do NOT want multiple dialog windows open.  The users will hate you and curse your name if you do.  You really want to use subpanels and limit what the user can do.  Subpanels are a way of inserting a VI's front panel into another VI's front panel.  So you want to have a section of your main front panel that the user can load whatever control subVI they need.

    Hi,
Has any one had any experience with getting LabVIEW Remote Front Panels working with WebCT or Blackboard E-learing software?
Generating the Remote Front Panel is easy enough, it's incorporating the Remote Front Panel into WebCT or Blackboard that am interested in?

    Hi,
Are you using FieldPoint 6.0.2?  We have a Corrective Action Report (#125870) for the remote front panels for the cFP-2220 with LabVIEW 8.6 and FieldPoint 6.0.2.  R&D is currently working on a fix, until then, the only known workaround is to using LabVIEW 8.5.1.

  • Accessing front panel LEDs in several subVIs

Hi, I'm new to LabVIEW! Ok, what I'm trying to do is create a front panel with 9 LEDs. Then I have a Menu Ring, with three different options. These options determine the order in which the LEDs are lit. So what I was planning on doing was creating three subVIs, one for each of the options...but how can I do that when I only have one boolean for each LED? So basically how can I relate the LEDs on the front panel into the subVIs? I tried using globals - but it seemed like that just passed on the state of the boolean instead of allowing me to actually change the boolean in the subVI. I hope this makes sense...I'm really confused! Thanks for any help!

Initially, you might just hook your ring to a case structure to
    determine which frame exe
cutes. You can put the terminals for the
Booleans in the different diagrams and about the only other thing to
keep in mind is that you probably want a delay in the loop.

  • How can I arrange the front panel?

    Hello,
I’m using LV 7.1 and created a VI with many controls and indicators. It writes and reads data to and from a bus system. For that I used the flat sequence structure and many case structures.
Now I would like to order the front panel, i.e. by using the tab control only the data read or only the user settings should be displayed.
But using the tab control slows the whole VI down, so that a data recording in real time is impossible.
Are there any other possibilities to bring the front panel into order if the number of controls and indicators is too high for the screen?
    Thanks in advance,
    UoS

Do you mean that the CPU usage goes up and the PC responds slowly. If so, this is interesting. This is most likely related to a grphical element causing the system to slow down. The tab control should theoretically take care of this, but about a year ago I ran into a similar situation where a tab caused problem here. In that case it looked like controls that were partially displayed caused the problem and when using the tab control the problem was there even when displaying another page. If this is so, you can try to determine the source by scrolling the screen in different directions. Once the problematic area is moved off the screen the VI should run faster. This way you can tell which area has the problem.

  • Is there a trick get around physical bundling of items on the front panel?

Ok - so I appreciate how bundling items on the front panel into a cluster can make the programmatic code very slick and easy to access.
I know this is completely obvious - but it forces me to arrange my front panel objects I would prefer not to arrange them. Here's why: I have my objects grouped together in a manner that reduces the number of datasocket read/write necessary for VIs to intercommunicate - they are grouped based on how they should be communicated to other VIs - not based on their physical arrangement on the front panel.
It seems the only way I can organize my objects into a cluster that appears as a pink control/indicator block in my diagram is by assembling
the objects into a cluster on the front panel... and this pink block is very useful as I can make local variables for it. This is much simpler than having all the controls and indicators bundled into a cluster for network transfer... but still having to use local variables for each control/indicator in order to use it elsewhere in the diagram.
Ugh. I fear this message is too much rambling and not enough information for anyone to help me... I'm going to post it in the hopes that someone can follow me.
I guess before I submit this I should remind you of what I was hoping to accomplish - to use the front panel to group objects but then skirt the requirement of keeping this objects in the same physical cluster box on the front panel.
    again, ugh,
    Jim

Place all your front panel objects the way you want them then in the block
diagram use the Bundle by Name vi to create a cluster.

  • Remote front panel

Hi, I'm new to labview. Now i have a program which is running in server mode. The application also build for the remote front panel. So my question is whether the client use the remote front panel to download the require file from the server to client computer under different 2 networks ? Thank you.

My main vi is just displaying data in graph where data are from MODBUS module which using LAN port. The main vi will gain all the data and generate a file (such as Excel file) after clicked a button. This file is generated at the server computer. With this function, i also published the front panel into web which is remote front panel. So now i want to generate the excel file by using another computer (client computer) access through the remote front panel to generate the file and the file is save to the client computer. The two different networks i mean was the server computer and the client computer is not connected under same network. So i want ask that whether remote front panel can do this function or not? If yes, then how to do it? Sorry that let you confuse

  • Determine Front Panel in memory

    Thanks!

    Well, easy rule of thumb:
LV does not load the front panel into memory if not needed.
LV loads the front panel into memory if you display it.
LV loads the front panel into memory if using property nodes requiring the front panel. This info can be obtained from the detailed help of this property:
LV loads the front panel into memory for certain methods (also documented in detailed help of the method).
    On a side note:
Please do not mix execution of code in the UI thread with loading the front panel. The UI thread is always running and does not determine wether (or not) front panels are loaded into memory!

  • How to make some part of front panel transparent?

There is a property node to make a front panel completly transparent...but is there anything that only makes some part of the vi transparent like if I define a decorative block in the vi which takes 1 quardant of front panel and I have a control to make it transparent during runtime...
And moreover the frontpanel transparent property makes the whole window transparent, is there any way to retain toolbar of window like stop, run button when front panel is transparent??

    Hi,
Have a look at this VI (attached). To make it work you need to create an image mask as a .png (open paint, colour in the areas that you want to become invisible and save it as a .png). The VI diffentiates between white areas and black areas of the mask you create, the black areas will become transparent and the white areas will remain the same- this will be implemented on your front panel. I've included an example of a possible paint image in "mask2.png".
You may also want to play around with the resolution of the mask created in paint, this will effect how the program works (I advise you use a lower resolution than your display- I used 500x300)
NT: If the front panel controls disappear, go into the block diagram window and attach a false constant instead of a control. Let me know if this works

  • LV 8.0.1 'NOT RESPONDING' and/or 'split' and unusable front panel while scrolling

    Hello,
Is anyone aware of any display or front-panel glitches and bugs with LV 8.0.1?  I have been using LV for years, but I have never seen the front panel tear itself (literally) in sections while I use the standard scoll bars at the edges of teh screen, then become completely unusable and go into [NOT RESPONDING] mode (???). In other words, my front panel displays have always moved as one continuous piece when scrolling.  During these recent episodes, I would use the scroll bars and parts of my front panel displays would not move while the other section(s) tore away and scrolled as I commanded.  When this happens, my entire PC would slow down, the CPU usage would rise and a approach 100%, and the VI was unusable.  I have been writing a particular VI for several months, starting in LV 6.1, then LV 8.0 PRO-DEV, and recently upgraded to the LV 8.0.1 'maintenance' release.  The problem that  I describe here began to occur within two weeks of the maintenance upgrade.  The problem seemed to be propagating to my back-up version after I opened each VI in unsuccessful attempts to find a VI that did not appear corrupted.  It seemed as if any VI that I opened was going to be plagued by the bug that I described above and I thought that I was going to lose months of expensive work and my job!!!!.  In a last ditch effort ( and a stroke of pure genius) I started saving some of these coorupt version as 'PREVIOUS' in LV7.1 format.  This seems to have turned the situation around, for now, and saved my VIs from becoming corrupted and completely unusable.
Please let me know if anyone else has seen this.  Also, please let me know how to avoid this, in the future.  Does this indicate corruption of my LV 8.0.1 PRO-DEV environment or the VI files (or both)?  Does NI have tools to correct these corruptions?
    Thank you.

Thank you. I can only point to the following events/ techniques that were somewhat different from my previous experiences/ techniques:
    1) Performed 'SAVE AS... ' new file name to these files over several months and several times a day using similar filenames with only one number character different between them
    2) Logging long data files to the root C: drive and closing in on less < 5GB HDD remaining (could this be overwriting soem temp files that LV uses to manag graphics???)
    3) After saving to LV 7.1 and re-opening with LV 8.0, I get a message that is new to me that explained something about wiring a Boolean constant to a case structure and how LV 7.1 or previous used this to keep a sub-vi in memory (???).  Unfortunately for me, I did not capture the exact syntax of this message and I do not wish to intentionally repeat this graphical feature.
    4) I copied a small block of code that contained a 'cloned' sub-vi from one block diagram to the a similar VI that , shortly afterward, exhibited the front-panle 'tearing' feature.  This is something that I usually do not do, and, again, is one of the only new actions from anything that I have done in LV for the past several years.
    5) After the message described in (3), above, the rescued LV 7.1 version had moved a handful of the most recently added indicators to a very remote location, about 30 seconds of edge-scrolling time, to the left of my front panel graphics.  I perfromed a 'drag' operation by selecting these and bumping them to the right edge of the screen for about 30 seconds to get them back to the vicinity of my front-panel graphics.  I have never experienced a VI that shifted inidcators so far off the edge of the screen.
These are the only ' unique' events that I can recall before the 'tear; effect.
    Thank you.
