SQL Developer 2.1 no longer allows to edit another granted schemas

Hello,
Just switched from 1.5.5 to 2.1 and going back!
In 1.5.5 I was able to logon as me (developer) and edit functions of batch schemas. Guess what! Not any more in 2.1!! Even if my priviliges allows me to do this!!
Any ideas how to bypass this problem?
I like 2.1, espesially because they fixed a bug with SELECT from the external tables, but editing alone is killing all the advanages!!

Our batch is running under BATCHADM schema. Every developer can edit this schema in development region and change functions and packages, and then migrate changes to the production.
When we switch to SQL Developer 2.1 we can see other users, including BATCHADM, open its packages and bring source to the editor. Thats it. You cannot edit it - source code is protected. You cannot add or insert or delete. It looks like editor is opening it in read-only mode. The only source you can edit is under your own schema.
When you go back to version 1.5.5 everything works like it should be.

  • SQL Developer Blocked and is not allowed to connect to database ORA-200001

SQL Developer Blocked and is not allowed to connect to database gives ORA-200001.
i found on net that DBA can write triggers which can deny connection to database from certain appplication.
so i want a way to change application name so that when it connects to database
the V$SESSION will have different value (other than SQL Developer) in column PROGRAM and/or MODULE (which i think is used by dba to restrict the connection).
    one more way is
i am using jdbc url to connect to database
in java we can change properties of connection to change the PROGRAM in V$SESSION.
but i am not java expert so dont know how and where to make the changes
either way my aim is to connect to database such that V$SESSION will have different value (other than "SQL Developer") in column PROGRAM and/or MODULE

This is not system configration or credential issue.
This is a check which is put DBA using logon trigger
to check certain user loging in using certain application.
only some users using particular username are getting this error when they try to logon using oracle sql developer
the same users when uses different username(some generic user names created to access database) to access the same database then they are able to login.
similarly if they login using SQL navigator they are able to login with both their own and the generic user name
more over of all the database instances this is only happening on some of the instances and all of them are development instances.
    following will help you understand
    USER | DBUSERNAME | DATABASE | APPLICATION | ACTION
    X | X | DB1 | Oracle Sql Developer | Blocked
    X | G(Genric) | DB1 | Oracle Sql Developer | Login Success
    X | X | DB1 | Sql Navigator/SqlPLus | Login Success
    X | G(Genric) | DB1 | Sql Navigator/SqlPLus | Login Success
    X | X | DB2 | Oracle Sql Developer | Login Success
    X | G(Genric) | DB2 | Oracle Sql Developer | Login Success
    X | X | DB2 | Sql Navigator/SqlPLus | Login Success
    X | G(Genric) | DB2 | Sql Navigator/SqlPLus | Login Success
I just want to bypass this check which i think uses V$SESSION and columns PROGRAM and/or MODULE to check the application used by particular user.
if i can override these values some where in oracle sql developer before loging in the DB then i can clearly pass this check and login to database.

  • SQL Developer install problems for Windows 7 Home edition

    Hi there,
I understand Windows 7 64-bit is not supported for oracle 11gR2 but I installed it anyway.
    This is not my problem.
I am trying to install SQL Developer and am getting this error when I click on the set up:
Unable to launch the Java Virtual machine, located at path:
    C:\Program Files(x86)Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin\msvcr71.dll
When I check the version of my java it is correctly displaying 1.6.0_21 for my 64 bit.
I read that you need the 32 bit one installed as well and I do. In my Program Files there is a java and a \jdk1.6.0_21 folder. In the bin directory it does not have this .dll:
    msvcr71.dll
Is that the problem, because i have heard of other people getting sql developer working on their Windows 7 home laptops but they are old posts and I'm not getting any reply.
I also changed the Environmental variable for the path, such as:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21 /bin
and none of the 3 above worked for me either.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

I unzipped the sql developer download to C:\Windows and it unzipped fine. I went into my folder of sql developer, double clicked the sql developer.exe and it asked for the path for java. I clicked Browse and the default was C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin so I chose the java from this folder. It accepted the argument, tried to start sql developer, and came up with the same error, so something is still not right that I am not understanding??

  • SQL Developer 2.1.1 Editor question

Finally the problem posted here Re: SQL Developer 2.1 no longer allows to edit another granted schemas resolved.
Now we can edit all granted schemas. I think, this is the most important improvement in this version! Thank you!
But now, IMHO, we have too much freedom!
For example: As soon as you click on object in the navigational panel on left side, the new worksheet is opened and YOU CAN EDIT a source code!!
Well... Why do we need the EDIT option in the Right Click Content Menu then? It is absolutely redundant!
I think, that click in the navigational panel should open a source only in READ ONLY mode! This sounds only logical, right? Most of the time code just needs to be browsed, so why have a risk of accidental damage of code?
Edit should be allowed only if you intentionally select the Edit option from the content menu.
Am I right or am I right?
Obviously, this is not a critical issue, but it would be a good idea to fix it in the next release

I swear I've read requests like this before so I checked the feature requests.
    Search: read only

I added my vote just for the hell of it. Looks like it's already slated for the 3.0 release.

  • Desc table_name statements no longer running in sql developer

simple desc statements like desc table_name; used to run in sql developer however they no longer work.
    It was working a few days ago and now the same statements dont return any results. The tables exist as I can run select statements fine just not desc table_name;

  • TNS_ADMIN not respected, or how do I get sql developer to see my tnsnames

When I installed sql developer at home with a 'static' tnsnames.ora file, sql-developer picked it up right away, and I was able to use the 'connect identifier' pull down menu.
However, at work, all of developer's computers have a TNS_ADMIN registry set pointing to a network share. Sql developer fails to recognize that. The purpose of this is central administration of the file (changes happen at least once a month)
Is there are a way to make it see our tnsnames.ora file? Is there are some kind of workaround (besides copying the file locally)
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, because SQL Developer is set up to allow an install without any local Oracle client, it is not wonderful at picking up some things from the local Oracle client when it is there - such as the TNS_ADMIN setting.
Assuming you are on an Windows box, rather than having your TNS_ADMIN set in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle registry 'directory', you need to have a Windows environment variable set for TNS_ADMIN (it doesn't matter if this is a User environment variable or a System environment variable). I assume (but don't know) that on a Linux based version you need a Unix environment variable set.
For example on Windows XP, right click on My Computer and select the Properties menu option. On that page, select the Advanced tab and then the Environment Variables button. Then click on the New button (in either the System or User section) and enter the variable name TNS_ADMIN and the variable value that you are using in the registry (ie z:\orant\network\admin).

  • Nothing works in SQL Developer 1.2

I have been using SQL Developer for quite a long time, and never had any issues - until I downloaded version 1.2. Note, I did not do an upgrade and I did not do a migration from an earlier version. This is a clean install on SQL Developer 1.2 with bundled JRE.
After I connect to a database I can write SQL statements and get a result. The problems starts if I use the object browser.

  • SQL Developer hangs when expanding table node

    Hello All,
One of my schemas has 3035 tables. When I expand the "Other Users" node, then the schema owner, then expand "Tables", SQL Developer hangs. I have allowed it to run (as it indicates it is working) for 45 minutes, but it never returns.
I have one user with nearly the same behavior, but theirs returns after waiting 5 minutes.
    Any ideas?

  • Formatting SQL Output in SQL Developer

I tried to google around a little bit and wasnt able to find an answer really.
In 10g and in SQL plus i remember being able to format output as follows
Using the generic HR schema and the following query i get the following output
    BREAK ON REPORT
COMPUTE SUM LABEL TOTAL OF SALARY ON REPORT
    SELECT LAST_NAME, SALARY
    FROM EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
    WHERE JOB_ID='SA_MAN';
    Expected output
    LAST_NAME SALARY
    Russell 14000
    Partners 13500
    Errazuriz 12000
    Cambrault 11000
    Zlotkey 10500
    TOTAL 61000
Now using SQL developer I am no longer getting the TOTAL line and only the following
    LAST_NAME SALARY
    Russell 14000
    Partners 13500
    Errazuriz 12000
    Cambrault 11000
    Zlotkey 10500
Was this unique to SQL plus the formatting?
Is there anything similar i can do in SQL Developer?
    Thanks in advance

    SQL Developer
As its name implies, it was never intended to be a data reporting utility.
It was designed to develop SQL & PL/SQL code.
When your only tool is a hammer, all problems are viewed as nails.
While a hammer is a GREAT tool, it is suboptimal to divide 1 board into 2 pieces.
My father always told me to use the proper tool for the task at hand.
You should consider following this advice.

  • .csv data import via SQL developer

I am trying to load an Access 2003 table into an Oracle 10g database via SQL developer. The Access file is located on another system and there is no ODBC connection between it and the SQL server.
What I have done so far is the following:
    i) Export Access table as comma-delimited text file;
    ii) Open text file and re-saved as .CSV;
iii) On SQL developer - created a table that matches the column structure in the original Access table, then right-clicked > Import Data > on Data Import Wizard I click Next...
after this, the wizard hangs on step 1, and does not allow me to move to the second step. It doesn't matter whether or not the SQL *Loader option is checked.
If anyone could offer some advice on the procedure I have applied above and possible sources of weakness, I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts. I'm relatively new to Oracel SQL and not very experienced with databases in general.
    Thanks

  • How to view SQL for a materialized view in SQL Developer (Oracle 11g R2)

    Good Morning,
I am new to SQL Developer 3.1.07 and just installed it on a Windows 7 PC yesterday.
There's a materialized view for which I need to view (and eventually update) the SQL. The mat'lized view is in another schema, but my Oracle user does have access to the schema and to this particular mat'lized view. My user also has SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, DEBUG, and ALTER permissions. When I select (click on) the matl'ized view in the object tree on the left, a multi-tab window opens with information in the Columns, Indexes, Grants, Dependencies and Details tabs, but the SQL pane is blank. I don't know if there's some other GRANT that I need in Oracle, or if there's something else I need to do in SQL Developer to see the matl'ized view SQL.
    Thanks

I'm not sure what privileges you might need besides the one you listed except RESOURCE on the MV, or maybe CREATE ANY MATERIALIZED VIEW.
Can you use DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL to get the data you want (may/may not work due to privileges)?

  • ORA-01722 when opening a package in SQL Developer 1.2 with oracle 9iR1

    Hi,
I use SQL Developer with Oracle Database 9i release 1.
When I open a package in SQL Developer 1.2 (or 1.5) for editing, I receive the error ORA-01722. The package successfully opens but this message, which pops everytime, is really annoying.
I monitored the requests sent by SQL Developer and it seems that the following request is responsible of the error :
    SELECT LINE,POSITION,TEXT,ATTRIBUTE FROM USER_ERRORS WHERE TYPE=:1AND NAME=:2
Notice there are no spaces between ':1' and 'AND'. When executing 'by hand' the request with SQL Developer, it asks for the value of '1AND' bind variable and the value of '2'. Then, it fails to execute with... ORA-01722.
Is it possible to avoid this bug ?
    Thank you for your help.

We're doing rolling 2 week releases until production. Expect something new next week.

  • SQL Developer 3.0 hanging on start up in XWindows

I hate this kind of post but I'm going to have to do it because I've tried everything I can think of... installed SQL Developer last week, and all worked fine. Then today, when I logged into my Linux host, it does not work.
Upon launching sqldeveloper, I get a splash screen, that only advances two ticks on the progress bar, then hangs up, never to continue or return control back.
I am using jdk1.7.0_02 with SQL Developer v3.0.04.34 on Oracle Enterprise Linux Server 5.6
Any ideas or things to check or try?
When I finally get tired of waiting and hit ctrl-C in the terminal window, I will get a message like this:
Error: SQL Developer can't recognize the JDK version
Edited by: joebednarz on Jan 17, 2012 12:38 PM

Thank you for your response Alfonso...
No, the JDK was not updated. I neglected to mention that this was not part of an Oracle client install, just SQLDeveloper rpm, therefore, no default JDK came with program.

  • Tablespace allocated size in Oracle SQL developer

    Hello,
Currently in my oracle 11g database, there are two datafiles under the users tablespace. Today during one application installation, I ran into this error msg:
ORA-01654: unable to extend index BSANITY.SI_CUID_I7 by 8 in tablespace USERSSo i checked the tablespace status in SQL developer and saw that the USERS tablespace is at 99% used. Datafile #1 is full at max size 32G and #2 is full at max size 4G. So I decided to change dbf #2 maxsize to 32G, I used the following command:
alter database datafile '<file path here>' autoextend on maxsize 32000M;I checked the dba_data_files view and verified the maxbytes change.
However, when I check the tablespace status in SQL developer, it is still showing USERS tablespace as 99% used. I'm wondering is there anything else I need to do after altering the datafile maxsize so that the change gets reflected in SQL developer?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply! i'm actually doing troubleshooting for a user, so I have to ask him to try the installation again to see if the problem persists. However, you said the DDL did not change the size of the file, what could be the reason? is there anything i can do to make sure it changes the size? When all else fails Read The Fine Manual
