SQL Server 2000 Compatibility
Hi all, I have a very simple question I would like to ask.
Right now, I have a server that is running on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Inside this server, it is running the SQL Server 2000. My question is, if say that I were to purchase a new server with Windows Server 2012 as the OS, can I run this SQL
Server 2000 on it?
Appreciate any help for this server newbie. :-)
Thanks.
As alreadysuggested, SQL 2000 is no longer supported and legacy version now. You could upgrade your server configurations and OS/ SQL server version to the latestversions<o:p></o:p>

SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition Compatability with Latest Operating Systems
Hi Team,
My client is using SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition for the database in the Production.
Now,We are planning to load that data from SQL 2000 to SQL 2012 and test the functionality.
Can you please tell me on which operations systems the SQL Server 2000 is compatible to Install ?
like Windows Server 2012/ 2012 R2/ Windows 7/ 8 etc.
Thanks
SrikrishnaInstalling SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2008 or later is not supported, but your question is about compatibility rather than support. SQL Server 2000 may work with the database engine but not with some other features and you'll probably need
to click through warnings installation. Proceed at your own risk if you want to go down that path.
I suggest you install on Windows 2003 for your migration testing to avoid obstacles. Not that support ends for Windows Server 2003 in a few months.

SQL Server 2000\2005 compatibility with Active Directory 2012
Hi All,
We are currently using Active Directory 2003 and will be upgrading to AD 2012. I'm trying to determine if there is any known compatibility issues when running older versions of SQL Server (2000 and 2005) when upgrading to AD 2012. I've
read forums from when others went from AD 2003 to AD 2008 and didn't experience any issues. We have the newer versions of SQL but I'm not too concerned about these. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? Has anyone been through
this process.
Thanks,Hi CraftsmanRobert,
Based on my understanding, you used Active Directory 2003, then it would be upgraded to Active Directory 2012. You wanted to run older versions of SQL Server (2000 and 2005) with Active Directory 2012.
Firstly, there can be a compatibility problem when run older version with Active Directory 2012. SQL Server 2005 (the release version and service packs) and earlier versions of SQL Server are not supported on Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012,
Windows 8.1, or Windows 8. For more information, please refer to this article: How to use SQL Server in Windows and Windows Server environments (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562/en-us).
Besides, Microsoft doesn’t provide assisted support for SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 already. Please upgrade the existing instance of SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 to a new version like SQL Server 2012. You can download SQL Server 2012 Express
from this link:

Unable to install SQL server 2000 and 2005 on Satellite A205-s5831
Hello everyone.
I Needs some helps from all of you.
I have Toshiba Laptop Satellite A205-S5831.
Its Have Windows Vista Home Premium.
And I am unable to install SQL server 2000 and 2005.
I also Unable to Install Windows XP SP2.
Problem is SATA driver.
Plz Help me ...!
Response meHi
The Windows XP needs a SATA driver if you want to install it on the notebook with SATA HDD controller.
The SATA driver can be found in the Intel Storage Manager.
I would recommend using the nLite program to include a SATA driver into the new Windows XP CD and then to boot from the new created XP CD.
Here you will find all details regarding the nLite:
http://www.nliteos.com/
Regarding SQL server issue;
Maybe you will be able to install in on Windows XP. Possibly there is a compatibility issue between the Vista and the SQL server software -

Ritin JainHi All,
I was not able to solve the problem with MS SQL 2000, but I was able to resolve the issue with MS SQL 2005.
You have to chhose the following settings while instalation,
Service Account - Select one of the following options:
1) Use the built-in System account for each service and choose Local system or Network Service.
2) Use a domain user account, and enter the user name and password.
Under Start services at the end of setup make sure that SQL Server and SQL Server Agent are selected.
Authentication Mode
1) Select Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication).
This mode is required for a Java or ABAP+Java system.
If you choose this mode, you have to set the password for the sa login.
Note: The password for the sa login must comply with the Windows password policy.
Collation Settings
1) Select SQL collations (used for compatibility with previous versions of SQL Server).
2) From the drop-down list select Binary order based on code point comparison, for use with the 850 (Multilingual) Character Set.
I hope this helps! -
Discoverer 4.1 and sql server 2000
Hi,
I am having difficulty creating an EUL using discover41
againstr SQL Server 2000. I have created an ODBC source
which i can connect to and Discoverer Administrator
starts to create the EUL but always fails at the end
giving the error:
Creating tables and views...
Populating tables with default data...
Install failed, cause : [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid column name 'suid'
can anyone help?
Also if i create the EUL in Oracle and then connect
to Administrator then create a new Business Area and then
select the database as a database link i've created.
I select the sql server user and select the tables
but as it tries to import them i get the following error:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel.
can anyone help with this to?
thank you,
Jonathan.Hi,
here is the link to the 'compatibility pages' for BI 4.1 http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/507d3365-009b-3010-04b0-e5abc8f00c91?QuickLink=index&…
you want the slide 'data access' , then click on the button 'Semantic Layer Datasources' to view the lookup matrix
without looking, I would say SQL 2000 isn't compatible / officially supported

We are be able to access data from source system in rsa1 by db connect. The problem is that all the Chinese characters are displayed as ?????. Error while connecting to SQL Server 2000 using Heteregenous Services 11g
Hope this is the right thread to post on! We have been given the challenge of connecting to and reading data from a SQL Server 2000 database.
Our Infrastructure guys have set up the network access.
The SQL Server DB is set to windows NT Authentication only (N.B. NOT Mixed Mode) as there is an application running against the DB locally that will not run under Mixed Mode.
Our Oracle partner has download and installed the 11g Heteregenous Services. all works fine until the point we try to create the DBLink and then connect to the SQL Server DB when we get:

Database link created.

Query Locks Table in SQL Server 2000!!
Hi all!
I am facing a strange problem. I am using MS SQL Server 2000.
I have a JDBC program. It executes a query on a table (STUDENT) and fetches some record from it.
The query gets executed fine for the first time but when the SELECT query is executed on the same table (i.e. STUDENT) from some other block of code within the same program the program hangs at the location where resultset is pointed to the first record i.e. RS.next();
When I try to execute the SELECT query on the same table (i.e. STUDENT) from a query tool when the program is running it also gets hanged!!!
It seems that after running the query for the first time on the STUDENT table from the next time its getting hanged....i believe the Table gets locked for some reason!!
Is that normal with SQL Server 2000.....The same code works fine with other database!
Please suggest...wht has to b done to gt it fixed!
Thankz a loadz bforehand!
ArunBy default (transaction isolation level TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED ), SQL Server applies a shared read lock when you do a SELECT. This is should not prevent other selects on the same row / page but it will prevent updates / deletes.
I found a link that explains SQL Server locking: http://databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/3289661 -

Sorry for long file. Can any one please help me in solving this problem.
Thanks in advnace
KurakulaI'd recommend that you not use the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver to connect to SQL Server. M$ and jTDS are two free type IV JDBC drivers that you should use instead. Put those JARs in the WEB-INF/lib directory.
The database URL you're using is not correct if you change drivers. Consult the docs to find out what the proper syntax is.

SQL Server 2000 std Report Performance Issue
Dear All,
I have a VB based desktop application with back end MS SQL server 2000 database with server machine ibmx5650 with specs intel xeon 2.7GHz (24 CPU's) & 24GB RAM.
There are two things i need help:
Recently we have upgrade the SQL server from 2000 personal edition to the 2000 standard edition. There comes a problem with one of the Report in the application. The report took almost 30 mins previously in SQL 2000 personal edition. But after the upgrade
to Standard edition we are unable to view report before 3 hours even sometimes it doesn't appear after several hours.
Secondly for brief testing i have installed the personal edition on a simple PC rather then a server PC specs are corei5 & 4 GB of RAM. The same report is generated in only 15 mins from the application with this desktop machine as DB server.
Please help me out i have gone through all SQL Server & system performance log of my server machine everything is normal but the report is taking too long & i can only generate that report from personal edition.
Is there the difference due the higher corei5 processor in desktop machine or there is any other issue behind this.
Your prompt response is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Rashid AliHello,
SQL Server 2000 is not support since 2013. Please upgrade to SQL Server 2012 to get better performance and support.
Thanks for your understanding and support.

General question on SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g
Hello all,
I just have a general question on migration from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g using SQL Developer.
How does it migrate Users with proper privileges from SQL Server to Oracle? Follow the interface steps? Or should the users be created on destination Oracle side?
Thank you.Hi,
It depends which type of migration you are making.
For a 'Standard' migration when you migrate data a 'create user' statement is created as part of the migration and you will see this in the generated code.
If you are using the 'Quick' migration option then you need to create the Oracle user or use an existing user to receive the data.
Your best option is to review the documentation available from -
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
or directly from -
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12151_01/index.htm
and then get back with specific questions if this does not give you the information you need.
