SQL Server - Mult threading

Hi ,
We have requirement to execute a SQL Server 2008 R2 , stored procedure for 200 different input values ( 200 times calling the same procedure) . All these calculations can be executed independently. Currently, we
are executing the same procedure for 200 different values SEQUENTIALLY. I feel this can be converted as parallel process / muti threaded , where i can initiate the execution of stored procedures for multiple values at the same time, so that i can reduce the
total execution time.
In SQL Server is there any possibility of handling this scenario ( parallel process / multi threading) . Please suggest.
Thank you

Hello,
Its a web application and the request is initiated from web page ... and the user is exepecting a quick responce .. The procedure has to do lot of calcualtion based on the supplied parameters..
There isn't much you can do except for tune the stored procedures or have an intermediate result set ready through something such as a indexed view. If there are multiple simultaneous queries on the same connections then I would look at the middleware tier
if you're using one.
SQL Server automatically decides (which can be influenced in several different ways) how to run the query. SQL Server itself is vastly multi-threaded and not every query benefits from parallelism. I feel as though you'd have more luck either tuning the stored
procedures.

  • Sql Server Multi server job issue

    Hi,
I have configured a multi server job in maintenance plan, Master server sql2012 sp1 and i have connected 4 target servers, out of 4 target server, 3 of them is same sql2012 version created MSX job is running  and only one server is sql 2008r2 MSX
job is not running it throws an error'The package could not  be loaded', My question is why the job is not running in Multi server method and i want to know maintennance plan of 2012 will support lower version 2008r2 or not.

According to Books Online, you cannot have lower versions of SQL Server as target servers when you run SSIS packages. Perhaps you can run the package using DTEXEC.EXE instead of SSIS job step type. Assuming that you are indeed executing an SSIS package
in the first place, that is!

  • SQL Server service not starting

    Hi,
In my environment we have configured SQL server clustering. Currently we are getting the following error and the service is not starting up.
ERROR: TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x2741, status code 0x1.

    Hi winoa,
According to your description, you come across the error that TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x2741. Please help to post the full error message from both SQL Server error log and cluster log for further analysis.
Based on my research, this issue could happen due to setting up SQL Server failover cluster over different subnets using these three SQL Server versions(SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server 2008 r2), hardware issue, or that disk and network name
    are offline.
Please pay attention to the points below to troubleshoot your issue.
•If you set up SQL Server failover cluster over multiple subnets using the versions of SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 r2, please make all the nodes in the same subnet, since SQL Server multi-subnet failover cluster is not supported among
those three versions of SQL Server. If possible,  you could  use the later versions (SQL Server 2012 or 2014) for SQL Server multi-subnet failover cluster.
    • Make sure that disk and network name are online.

  • Oraclient9i.dll error in multi threaded delphi server application

I created a multi threaded server application in delphi using oracle9i and indy server components. When I run my application, I am getting an error "oraclient9i.dll" error when executing my SQL statements. I have check communication between my server application and the client application without using oracle and its working fine, its only when I started executing SQL statements when I got this error.
Can anybody help me with this problem or point me to the right direction on how to resolve this issue.
    thanks

    > I have tried what you suggested. I have created a
seperate TOracleSession on each thread that I create
on the OnConnect event however I am having Problems
using the oraclesession created on the OnExecute
event. Somehow it is still executing the SQL that I
have created on the main form where I first opened an
oraclesession component created on the main form.
It sounds then like the TOracleSession object in the thread is a copy of the one in the main thread/form.
    > Do you think that It would work if I create an
instance of the TOracleDatasets and TOracleQuery on
the OnExecute event and also at the same time create
my TOracleSession on this event and continue
processing the data receive from the client server.
I've never used the Indy components for threading. The default TThread class worked just fine for me.
What I used to do is define the session and database objects as privates in my new thread class (let's call it TThreadSQL) - which was subclassed from TThread.
    The constructor of this new TThreadSQL class did the following (writing here purely from memory - have not done Delphi for some time now): constructor TThreadSQL.Create( TNSalias, username, password : string );
// constructor is called with the Oracle session connection details
    begin
inherited Create; // call the parent class constructor
CreateOracleSession; // call own private method to create an Oracle connection
    end;
    The CreateOracleSession method would then:
    - create a BDE Session (TSession) object
    - create a BDE Database (TDatabase) object, using the BDE Oracle native driver and an Oracle TNS alias plus username and password for connection
The destructor would close the connection. The Execute method which is used to fire up the thread, would use a TQuery object (or whatever) to execute a SQL using it owns connection.

  • SQL Server 2012 - DB Mirroring + Log Shipping + Multi-Subnet

    Hi again,
So AG would be nice to have, but considering the costs of getting it, well, it is a no go for me at the moment (This is like a 1:20 ratio considering Std comes with server licencing and enterprise is only per 2 cores).
So, having 2 sites, with different subnet. Is it possible to configure automatic failover for DBM ? We are running Windows 2012 R2 which supports multi subnet failover. But what about DBM in this case ?
Can the witness be configured on a third site ? (I was thinking of having the following weights: Site 1:2, Site 2:1, Quorum:2 just to have no reconfig to do in case of Datacenter failure)
Also, in order to offload some of the backup load as the DB are somewhat big (1TB), I was thinking of having one additional node per site to which the logs are shipped and that are used to run the backups. The question being, is it possible to log ship from
each "primary" on each site rather than have the primary on site 1 do it for all the servers across the subnets ?
It would be a setup like this:
Site 1 Primary <---DBM---> Site 2 Primary (Hot failover)
    Site 1 Primary <---LogShips---> Site 1 Secondary
    Site 2 Primary <---LogShips---> Site 2 Secondary
And thus reduces the load on the link between the 2 sites.
I do hope to see AG in the future for Std as they are removing DBM in the next version.
    Thanks,

The idea behind the cluster is to have a single IP on which the applications can reach the DB in case of a failover to the secondary site.
This requires a failover cluster instance - mirroring does not work this way.
Because as far as I understand it, either the application has to be aware and able to switch to the new DB primary, or we can use a multisubnet cluster or we can manually reconfigure the applications (so painful)
Mirroring has the failover partner attribute in the connection string that can be utilized. A multi-subnet cluster would require, again, a FCI.
AFAIK, DBM is not recommended for more than 10 DB on an instance due to the worker threads.
"It depends". There can be worker thread issues, but this will entirely depend on your hardware and architecture of processor/SQL Server. In 32-bit world it'll eat up all of your worker threads. In 64-bit world on a decent server it shouldn't be
a problem to have 10-20 out of the box.
I don't mind having to failover multiple database residing on the same instance and having to setup them per DB.
If any of your databases have a dependency on one another, this isn't going to work well as one database could be failed over and another might not be. Just food for thought.
What it sound like you really want is a failover cluster instance and use log shipping to have a "readable copy" somewhere even if it is behind on time. The problem comes in is that a cluster all has to be in the same domain and part of the same
cluster. Your thoughts involve a separate cluster - so I'm not sure why two different ones unless you have multiple environments you're trying to add some HA to.

You do know that real SQL programmers hate the proprietary nightmare of tabled valued functions?  This is how you procedural programmers avoid learning set-oriented declarative and functional programming.
Your mindset wants to write to a scratch tape or disk file (aka “tabled valued function result table”) just like you did BASIC, FORTRAN or COBOL. QL programmers do not have to materialize their data. We can use VIEW or a drive table as well as a base table.
    >> Plus, there are occasions where I don't want to pass in a field [sic: columns are not fields] parameter or need to change a parameter list such that I don't wish the table function to filter by a particular field [sic] or other setting. <<
What you want is a magical “Automobiles, Squids and Lady Gaga” function. An SQL programmer might write a complex VIEW then do simpler SELECTs off it.
    >> My application pushes the WHERE clause from EXCEL to SQL to do the hard work as EXCEL is not the application in which I want to process the SQL statement and pass it via ODBC. I cannot run macros in Excel on the web.<<
This is a crazy language system. Usually we fetch data in SQL and then pass it to a math package, report writer, etc. We never keep logic (aka WHERE clauses) outside the database.
    >> I am bummed about the fact that this feature doesn't work. It will up my server management costs to maintain unique tabular based functions based on WHERE clause query <<
So stop writing those “tabular based functions”, change your mindset and start learning SQL and do it right.

  • Problem with SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 SP1 (SSRS) and SharePoint 2013 in a Multi-tenanted environment

    Hi All,
I'm working on what appears to be a permissions issue with SSRS in a multi-tenented SharePoint 2013 environment.
As part of my troubleshooting I've ignored the multitenented web application for the time being and stood up a dedicated web application with it's own host header called reporting.<domain>.local. I've created a site collection and added a Doc Library
called Reporting.. And then the content types, made sure the features are up and everything tests ok. I mention this because it's not that I can't get this working.. I can't get this working in a Web Application configured for multi-tenancy running Host Named
    Site Collections.
When I try redoing the above on a Tenant site I get the following:
Sorry, something went wrong The permissions granted to user '<domain>\bprice' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user '<DOMAIN>\bprice'
are insufficient for performing this operation.
    Correlation ID: 7f23ef9c-4b6a-7007-7e6f-0b32c731f7ed
The problem here is that my account is a sysadmin in SQL, a local admin on all servers, a domain admin in AD and finally a Farm Admin in SharePoint. Access denied on my account is crazy. So it's unlikely to be perms in the traditional sence, more likely a denial
by implication (as though I have not been granted access to something)
When filtering the ULS Logs for that correlation ID I see the following log entries:
    WcfReceiveRequest: LocalAddress: 'http://homsssrs001. <domain>.local:32843/04560e49d2664b64bc12d9ce7bc9f885/ReportingWebService.svc' Channel: 'System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel' Action: 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2011/06/01/ReportServer/Management/GetDataSourceContents'

    Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user '<DOMAIN>\bprice' are insufficient for performing this operation.;
A quick google on what I consider the most important of the above log errors (#5 mentioning Sitesubscription of the context site) returns:
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/2014/10/reporting-services-feature-pack/
We aren't using feature packs at the moment. As far as I understand it all features are available to all subscriptions.
Has anyone seen this issue? Can anyone point in the correct direction? There must be a config that's specific to SSRS and Multi-tenancy that I've overlooked but I genuinely can't get to the bottom of this.
    Kind Regards & Many Thanks
    Brett

Morning Trevor, please find attached - if you can, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards

  • Multi-Threaded server using  ThreadPool

    Dear friends,
I am writing a client-server program in which the client and server communicate using SUN-RPC. The client reads a file containing some numbers and then spawns threads which it uses to request the server for a service. These threads are executed using a thread pool. Till this time, it's working fine. But when it comes to the server, the real trouble begins because it too needs to be made a multi-threaded one using thread pooling. The server has to capture the call information for each request for the service and then pass this information to a thread/runnable object in whose run() method the code for execution of the service would be present. Since the tasks(requests for the service) are not present already, i am unable to execute the server side threads in a loop using a thread pool. How to solve this problem? Kindly help.
    Thanks,
    Subhash

The server has to capture the call information for each request for the serviceWhy?
and then pass this information to a thread/runnable object in whose run() method the code for execution of the service would be present. Why can't the run() method get the call information when it starts? That's what's normally done. The server's accept loop mustn't do any other I/O: otherwise a rogue client can block the server complete.y

  • SQL Server 2005: Multi-part identifier could not be bound

    Hello,
I use IBM WebSphere Portal and am desperately trying to move data from the default Cloudspace Database to MS SQL Server 2005, of course following the official guidelines.
What happens is that WebSphere's Configuration Wizard fails because of an error caused by the SQL Script. Trouble is, I can't bring it to work not even in the SQL Server Management Studio.
What follows is the code generated by the script. The error is caused by the last "check"-constraint (colored in red).
    CREATE TABLE community.APP_DESC (
    OID BINARY(18) NOT NULL,
    TYPE INTEGER NOT NULL,
    APP_NAME NVARCHAR(255) NOT NULL,
    IS_ACTIVE INTEGER NOT NULL,
    JSR_VERSION NVARCHAR(255),
    GUID NVARCHAR(255),
    WEB_MOD_OID BINARY(18),
    WEB_MOD_SL BINARY(18),
    WSRP_PROD_OID BINARY(18),
    WSRP_PROD_SL BINARY(18),
    DEFAULT_LOCALE NVARCHAR(64),
    CREATED BIGINT NOT NULL,
    MODIFIED BIGINT NOT NULL,
    WSC_GROUP_ID NVARCHAR(255),
CONSTRAINT PK20 PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (OID),
CONSTRAINT FK20A FOREIGN KEY (WEB_MOD_OID) REFERENCES community.WEB_MOD (OID) ON DELETE CASCADE,
constraint FK20B FOREIGN KEY (WSRP_PROD_OID) REFERENCES community.WSRP_PROD (OID) ON DELETE CASCADE,
CONSTRAINT CC20A CHECK (((community.APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_OID IS NULL) AND (community.APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_SL IS NOT NULL)) OR ((community.APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_OID IS NOT NULL) AND (community.APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_SL IS NULL)))
And that's what SQL Server 2005 told me:
    Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The multi-part identifier "community.APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_OID" could not be bound.
    Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The multi-part identifier "community.APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_SL" could not be bound.
BTW, as this is a generated script I do not have the possibility to change it. Because it has been released by IBM I am rather convinced that it is correct - therefore I was wondering whether SQL Server 2005 has a known bug that makes it refuse "check"-constraints.
    Any hint is very appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    adapter

THe problem is that is was probably not made for SQL Server 2005. It should read:
CONSTRAINT PK20 PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (OID),
CONSTRAINT FK20A FOREIGN KEY (WEB_MOD_OID) REFERENCES community.WEB_MOD (OID) ON DELETE CASCADE,
constraint FK20B FOREIGN KEY (WSRP_PROD_OID) REFERENCES community.WSRP_PROD (OID) ON DELETE CASCADE,
CONSTRAINT CC20A CHECK (((APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_OID IS NULL) AND (APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_SL IS NOT NULL)) OR ((APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_OID IS NOT NULL) AND (APP_DESC.WEB_MOD_SL IS NULL)))
The meaning of the first identifier changed in SQL Server 2005, as this is now the Schema and not the owner. DO you have a chance of using a SQL Server 2000 computer ? In terms of licences you will have a downgrade licence for the SQL Server, otherwise you should ping the IBM guys to provide a compatible script.
    HTH, Jens K. Suessmeyer.

  • Multi-threaded server programming

Hello, I meet a problem and don't know how to solve it: I have created a multi-threaded server program which receives multiple users from their own PCs. The server program receives users'commands and echo it back to all users who are currently connecting to my server. I store every clientSocket connecting to my server into a vector. My question is: how the server broadcasts a user command to other users? And how the server knows to which user he will echo the command to since the hostName and port number are the same to every user currently connecting to my server? Thanks a lot.

You should look at extending the Socket class to encorporate user details. Either use what peter suggested or make the user pass a username (or something) when they connect.
When you want to broadcast to all users just enumerate through your vector and send each one the command. If you mean the user performs a task on their application and you want to produce the same results in all the other users apps then its down to you to code it. When user1 clicks on a button the app must send a command (eg. a string) to the server which sends the same string to all other users. When the user receives this string it performs some task.
    Is that what you mean?
    Ted.

  • Enterprise User and Multi Thread Server

    Hi,
We are going to build a system which uses a configuration:
    10g2
    Enterprise User
    Multi Thread Server
Client apps accesses db over JDBC/SSL
Could some please share experience about issues regarding
using Enterprise User and Multi Thread Server ?
Is MTS transparant for Enterprise User authentication ?
    Regards,
    Cezary

If you build simpserv with -t, and set MIN and MAXDISPATCHTHREADS, you
should have an example of a multithreaded server.

We have been going to the documentation on multi-threading and contexting in servers
    on Tuxedo 7.1.
And the impression so far is that apart from the function definitions there is
    not much information around.
Didn't even find a simple example of a multi-threaded server in the Bea refs yet.
Does anyone know/have such an example?
And is anyone using multi-contexting in a server, because the limitation that
    only server-dispatched
thread get a context puts quite a limitation on its usefullness.

  • Virtualised Multi-Instance SQL Server Cluster - Processor Resource Management

Hi - We're in the process of implementing a multi-instance SQL 2014 guest cluster on Windows 2012 R2.  To our dismay, it seems that Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM) is deprecated in Windows 2012 R2, so we're now stuck for how best to manage CPU usage
    between SQL instances....
As far as I can see, I'm left with two options, but both of these have problems:
    1) Use SQL Processor affinity within the guest cluster, with each SQL instance assigned to dedicated v-CPU.  However, I'm not certain that setting SQL Processor affinity within a VM will actually have the desired affect!?..
    - When there is physical CPU capacity available, I'd hope Hyper-V would provide it to whichever v-CPU is demanding it.
    - When VM processor demand exceeds the physical CPU capacity, I'd hope the SQL instances would receive a proportion of the physical CPU time according to the number of v-CPU(s) assigned through the affinity settings.
    2) Use a VM (actually 2, because its a 2-node guest cluster) per SQL instance!..  This is not ideal, as we need multiple SQL instances and it would result in have an administrative and performance overhead
Does anyone have any information or thoughts on this?  How can we manage a virtualised multi-instance SQL deployment now that WSRM has been deprecated?  Help me please!

I'm not sure what are the requirements for each of the 2 VMs in in the SQL guest cluster.
I'm assuming the guest cluster resides on a Hyper-V CSV with at least 2 Hyper-V hosts, and the 2 VMs are configured with Anti-affinity to ensure they never reside on the same Hyper-V host.
I've been able to configure CPU resources to VMs from the standard controls in Hyper-V Manager:

This matters because of these limitations.

  • SQL Server 2012 Multi-Site clustering with 2 nodes for HA and DR

Usually we setup 2 Node Prod cluster for Local HA and 1 or 2 Nodes in other data centre for DR
Given that we have an option to setup multi-site / multi-subnet clustering from SQL 2008 R2/2012. I am planning to use just 2 nodes, 1 in prod data centre and 1 in DR data centre with 2 or 3 instances. This will act as both HA and DR solution.
I would like to know if this solution is good, and any disadvantages, any best practices, etc.? By implementing this I can save some cost on physical servers.
    Following will be configured:
    * Will be using different subnets, quorum on different server with "Node and File Share Majority"
    * All virtual IPs will be registered for virtual name, and Subnetdelay, Subnet threshold will be modified accordingly
    * All nodes on same domain
    * Use SAN Disk with replication to DR site

SQL 2008 R2 doesn't support multi-subnet clustering. You would still need 3rd party component like VLAN and Disk Replication. SQL 2012 is the first version to support multi-subnet clustering without using VLAN. you would still need disk replication hardware/software.
    Taken from my book
Since nodes are often located in two different data centers at geographically dispersed locations, there is no shared storage between the nodes in a multi-site cluster. Clustering across two different data centers provides a higher level of availability and
protection at the storage level as we have more than a single copy of the data.
For SAN replication technology implemented in such clusters, the main activity is to keep data replicated between the sites. Typically, if we have nodes on two different sites, we would have two different network infrastructures and the nodes would be in
different subnets. In such cases, if we are on a SQL Server version before 2012, we need to use third party VLAN (Virtual LAN) technology so that one IP address travels between two sites. This is called wide-IP. Companies hesitate with this solution because
of the need to buy a third party solution to deploy the VLAN. Using VLAN technology means the same IP address would failover to the remote site in case of a local site disaster. Network administration might consider this as an overhead to maintenance and an
extra piece of the networking component that needs to be secure.
With SQL Server 2012 we do not need to use stretch VLAN technology but SAN replication is still needed for multi-site clustering. The OS version for this can be from Windows Server 2008 R2 and above. In this deployment, we can have a SQL virtual network
name having an “OR” dependency on two different IP addresses. One address would be representing each subnet. With the “OR” dependency, if IP1 or IP2 is online we just use the network name. This is one of the Enterprise Editions only features.
Other option which you can think of, without using 3rd party solutions would be AlwaysOn Availability Group. I have written details about it in my book.
