SQL SP4 Upgrade

We currently have our Zenworks Inventory database on a SQL 2000 SP3a
platform. We would like to upgrade this to SP4. Before doing this however,
does anyone know if Novell supports SP4 and if they have tested and
certified SP4. I can't seem to find any documentation on this anywhere.
Thanks!

  • Order of steps in CRM Mobile Sales 7.0 SP4 Upgrade

    Hi,
Since I read the upgrade guide I am not really sure anymore about the right order of step when performing the upgrade (form 4.0 SP6 to 7.0 SP4):
(OS and Office version are up to the prerequesites)
    0. Back up all ARS databases (dev, test, production)
    1. Run Baseline Comparison tool: Is that recommended to do?
    2. Upgrade SQL Server form 2000 to 2005 SP1 or SP2 with attach, detach and run the SQL script provided by SAP
2a. Install .net 2.0, Java VM 1.5.0_16 and Java Dev Kit (MAR and WB are on the same machine)
    2b. Install Visual Studio (VBasic) 2005 SP00
    3. Run Code Migration (only on DEV, it will create a change list which can be transported to the other systems, correct?)
    4. Run MAR Upgrade tool
    5. Upgrade MRS tools and services
The points I am really unsure is, when to upgrade SQL Server from 2000 to 2005 and when to install Visual Studio.
Could someone please feedback if all the steps are in the right order?
    Whity

Hi everybody confronted with 4.0 to 7.0 SP4 upgrade of MSA,
I have done sich upgrade and here is the list of steps and the order of them:
Pre-upgrade: (check the current system works fine):
    1. Confirm the SAP services (MAR Central, TA) are working fine
    2. Confirm the Transport Process among DEV, QA and PRD is also working fine
    3. Full generation of all apps
    Pre-upgrade:
    4. Baseline comparison in order to ensure all repos are in synch
    5. Backup ars_db and ides
    Upgrade steps:
    6. Check software versions
    7. Install Visual Studio 2005 SP00
    8. Stop TA but not MAR Central Service
    9. Install and run CMT (it will display thousands of collisions, we had 11270 but most of them were solved by the system, finally we had 67 collisisons to resolve manually)
    10. Start TA and release CMT changelist and transport to CRM Server
    11. Backup ars_db
    12. CMT deinstallation
    13. SQL Server upgrade from 2000 to 2005
    14. Stop and uninstall TA. If TA is not being uninstalled there will be problems to uninstall but it can still be done via DOS command
    15. Upgrade the MAR
16: Unistall the MAR upgrade tool
    17. Install Java VM and SDK
    18. Upgrade MDW (run on upgrade CD)
    19. Resolve collisions (document the work!)
    20. After CRM Online was upgraded do a BDoc synch (until this step, MAR, MDW upgrade run independently)
    21. Generate Metadata and table scripts on Ides in ClientConsole
    22. Do a full non incremental generation
    23. Run the application (MSA, MSC, etc.)
    Possible issues:
    1. I had many errors during compilation (not generation, that worked fine). Some of the errors were resolved by ensuring that all objects were generated. This did not happen at the first generation. Other errors came from collision resolution. This is a bit more tricky but keep in mind NO MAJOR CODE CHANGE was required to resolve them. Probably date conversion issues will pop up which can be resolved by "fromadate" / "toadate"...
    2. I had issues with the backed up Ides. Finally I had to restore an empty 7.0 standard SAP Ides and ran the Metadata and table scripts on this Ides. Then I connected and did an extract. This worked fine.
This is it in a nutshell. I hope it will help anybody with an upgrade!

    Hi Friends,
We have planned to upgrade our SCCM 2012 SP1 infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 so we have setup test environment to test SQL database upgrade before doing same in production.
But while testing SQL database upgrade on test machine, it is getting failed with below error.

Can anyone please help to get this resolved.
    Thanks.

We found out that there were duplicate entries in the PkgStatus_G and the PkgServers_G tables in the SCCM DB.  We identified them, deleted them , and then we were able to run the /TESTDBUPGRADE command and it went through fine.  We performed
all of this on a COPY of the PROD DB and then moved the changes in PROD.  Hope this helps someone.

  • SQL Server Upgrade Advisor 2014 - Database Compatibility Level checking

I have the following scenario... I have a database server running SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.50.4260). On that server I restored a database from SQL Server 2005.  Looking at the compatibility level through the properties of the database (using SSMS) and
by querying against sys.databases, I can see the database has the compatibility level of 90, which is what I expected.
In looking to bring this database over to a SQL Server 2014 database server, I have run the SQL Server Upgrade Advisor 2014 tool as well as the SQL Server Upgrade Advisor 2012 tool.  With the 2014 tool, my expectation would be that it would warn me
that the compatibility level will be upgraded to 10 (or something), however, I received no such warning.  I ran the 2012 version of the tool as well, expecting that I might get a deprecation warning (or something), no such luck.  I have run the 2014
tool from my computer and from another one, same results.
Does the upgrade advisor not check for the compatibility level? Or does my configuration maybe have something to do with it (having it on a 2008 R2 server)?  From looking at screenshots of when other people have ran the tool, I was under the impression
it checked this. See the link below for an example...
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mspfe/archive/2012/12/06/sql-server-upgrade-advisor-considerations-when-upgrading-from-sql-2000-to-sql-2012.aspx
    Thoughts anyone?

    Lydia,
I agree with regards to the 2012 version.  However, in SQL Server 2014, upgrading a database with a compatibility level of 90 sets
the database to compatibility level 100. See link below...
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb510680.aspx
Shouldn't the 2014 version of the advisor tool issue the same warning seen in the screenshot of the msdn blog post we both mentioned?  As in... "After upgrade, compatibility levels <list of levels>, will be set to 100".
    Hi JJordheim,
According to my test, SQL Server 2014 Upgrade Advisor also only raise warning when database compatibility level is less than 90 in the “SQL Server Parameters” page.
From your description, when database compatibility level is set to 90, SQL Server 2014 Upgrade Advisor should also raise warning, right? If so , this is a design issue of SQL Server 2014 Upgrade Advisor, personally, I recommend you
submit a feedback to the Microsoft Connect at this link
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback . Your feedback enables Microsoft to offer the best software and deliver superior services.

  • Collisisons in a MSA CRM 4 SP8 - CRM 7 SP4 upgrade

    Hello everybody,
I have run the MAR Upgrade tool CRM 7.0 SP4 on a CRM MSA 4.0 SP8 landscape. In total 11 Change Lists have been imported. Each change list caused approximately 1000 collisions which is in total 11000 collisions. I am a bit surprised by that amount of collisions. Does anyone have the experience if so many collisions are normal and that it is worthwhile to proceed?
    Some other questions:
    - can it be that the CMT changelist is also a reason for collisions of the later imported SAP CLs?
    - does each of the 11 CLs run into the same collision, e.g. if we have changed a SAP owned object that each of the 11 CL runs here into a collision, which would mean that we have actually only ca. 1000 collisions to resolve instead of 11000?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Raquel

    Thanks for your help Shankar,
Finally we have realized that the result: 11917 collisions, was not the number of the non-resolved collisions.
If you perform the following SQL statement on ARS_DB, you can get an overview about the collisions:
select state, count(*) from collision group by state
    state 0 means non-resolved collisions
    state 2 means resolved collisions
In fact, we only have 67 in state 0.

    Raquel

    Hi,
you need to grant rights from the owner of the table to the user who ownes the package. In 10g some roles have less rights, so this lost the user rights on the table. So start to make a grant select and insert on the table:
grant select, insert on preship to TBORGESON;See if this helps and get more compiled packages.

  • Performance Issue on REISBP since SQL Server upgrade to 2005

We recently upgrade our database from 2000 to 2005, using ECC5 (that didn't change).  Since the upgrade one transaction in particular has taken a big hit... REISBP.  It can range from seconds to 15+ minutes now to complete, which didn't happen before.  the underlying table is BUT000.
Has anyone experienced this?  Or other significant slowdowns after an upgrade.
(on a 32 bit Windows NT server - can't do anything about that for now.)
    Thanks
    Laurie

I did run the STO5 sql trace and the issue is with the vibpobjrel table part query.  There are no further indexes to put on that table tho help out, based on how the users are accessing the report.  Based on how they are using the report, several thousand records can be returned, which are then parsed as parms in the next part of the report where a "for all entries" clause is used... causing many union all statements.
What I don't understand is why the average execution time was much less, using the same criteria, in SQL 2000.
At this time we've instructed the users to not use a text criteria in the name field if at all possible, as this forces reading the entire BUT000 table, multiple times based on the return from vibpobjrel.
Perhaps this is just a taste of the 2005 performance on our systems.  I do see some increased times for other transaction over the previous version, but none stand out as much as this one.
    Thanks,
    Laurie

    You can go for free
SQl Server 2014 evaluation edition. It has enterprise features and can be used for 180 days after that you have to upgrade it to licensed version.
You cannot upgrade from SQl server 2012 to 2014 evaluation edition by inplace upgarde you need to do side by side upgrade. Backup database on 2012 and restore it on 2014 move logins and jobs and other objects by taking out script and running in SQL Server

  • SQL Server upgrade with merge replication

We are planning to upgrade SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012 and both the databases will be hosted on two different servers. SQL Server 2005 has around 25 merge publication and have around 400 laptops that subscribe to these publications. The new SQL server
2012 will also have same replication setup as the old server. The data base size on the existing server is 66 GB and takes about 1.5 hrs for initial sync up.
Due to various business constraints we can't move over to new server in a single switch. Instead we need to keep both the servers running for a month or two. During this process, we need to replicate (uni-directional) data from SQL server 2005 to SQL server
2012 on a daily basis. To achieve this we have tried the following approaches so far:
DB backup and restore from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 server - In this approach, the publications are dropped by SQL 2012 after we restore.
SQL native replication - Could not setup Transactional, Merge and Snapshot replication due SQL server constraints. Cannot setup merge replication between SQL 2005(publisher) and SQL 2012(subscriber)
Microsoft Sync framework – Sync fwk expects identify column or primary key for the sync to work but database has 76 tables without any primary key
SSIS – DB consists of 170 tables and will require significant effort to write and maintain the package to sync update and delete operations on the DB. Insert operations on the other hand are easy to support.
We are looking for different options to setup server to server replication with given constraints.

You will need to use some form of change tracking to gather the changes up and replay them on the SQL 2012 server.
You can hack into the msmerge_Contents and msmerge_tombstone to do this. It will be fairly laborious to set up, but it is doable. You can do this as a batch operation so you can run it nightly to do your syncs.
A lower tech way of doing it would be to run tablediff between the two servers and then replay the script nightly.

  • DB02 running very slowly after SQL 2005 Upgrade!

    Hi All
I have reciently upgraded our DEV ECC6 system to SQL 2005 and everything seemed ok - no problems really! However when we run DB02, to retrieve DB information it is taking about 4 to 5 mins to appear. This is obviously not good!
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so is there something that needs to be done?
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
Have you ensure that all the standard background job as per note 16083?
