SQL Upgrade 2000 to 2008

Dear All,
We are planning to do migration from SQL 2000 to 2008 server, Please tell me where to run the upgrade advisor.
Do I need to run on 2000 server or 2008 server?
Thanks
DBA

Also there is a good article for SQL Server 2000 to 2008 Migration ,located at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/mdegre/archive/2009/07/21/migration-sql-server-2000-to-sql-server-2008.aspx

  • SQL Server 2000 and 2008 Standard Edition

    Hi,
    I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any auditing limitations in the standard editions of SQL server 2000 and 2008 R2.
    I'm interested to know if there are audit functions for user auditing like creation, deletion and logons
    Can't seem to find any information about this.

  • SQL Server 2000-2005/2008 Upgrade

    I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had been using SQL Server 2000, and upgraded it to SQL 2005/2008 during a tools upgrade? We are currently on tools 8.44 and performance is bogging down at times on SQL 2000. Curious to see if and what your experiences were? Also has anyone had any success data archiving with tools 8.44?
    Appreciate replies

    Hi,
    I have successfully done an upgrade from tools 8.44 to 8.49 (also sql server 2000 to 2005 sp3) in 2009
    The performance was way better in 2005, also managing the database :).. also you wont hav to face the dreadful deadlock problem in 2005
    I should say that this activity was part of an application+tools upgrade

  • SQL Upgrade 2000 to SQL 2005

    We are upgrading to new server and installing SQL 2005.  Using Crystal Server 10.  Where can I find a step by step?  Can I just backup Business Objects Database, install the app on the new server, restore the database to SQL 2005?
    Thanks,

    Hi Samuel
    You can refer the below link for more information on SQL Server 2005 upgrade.

  • Upgrade Sharepoint 2010 SQL Reporting Services from 2008 R2 to 2014

    I'm about to do the upgrade of SharePoint 2010 Reporting Services from 2008 R2 to 2014.  The instructions say it can be done "in-place" with no downtime.  I've seen this article:
    http://whitepages.unlimitedviz.com/2012/03/upgrading-sql-server-reporting-services-to-2012-in-sharepoint-integrated-mode/
    It covers 2012 so I assume the same holds true for 2014.
    I'd like to get the low down from anyone who has actually performed the upgrade of SSRS from 2008 R2 to 2014.  Anyone done this upgrade?  Any issues?
    David Jenkins

    So far I would have to say that the upgrade can be done "in-place" but there is a "DOWNTIME".
    This article has helped a lot:
    http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/tlingenfelder/archive/2012/07/10/upgrading-sql-server-reporting-services-2008-r2-to-sql-server-reporting-services-2012-in-sharepoint.aspx
    In the article it tells you about a bug in the SQL Upgrade process where
    the Domain account you use will not work. When you type in the password it fails. On top of that it will lock the Domain account because of a bad password!  There is probably something wrong with the authentication process and it garbles the password.
    Anyway, you end up having to change the account to the "Network Service" account before you can do the upgrade.  This means the services get restarted which means???
    DOWN TIME!  He goes over other errors.  I haven't reviewed these issues yet.
    The other thing I learned is that everything needs to be SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 in order to upgrade.  You don't find this out until almost the last step in the installation process.
    Now I have to wait until next week to actually do the upgrade because I have to schedule an SP2 install.  :(

  • Upgrading SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000

    Hello,
    We want to upgrade Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000 to implement Mobile scenario in CRM .If anyone has any utility  implementation guide or good information regarding it ,kindly please forward it to my mail id  [email protected]
    Thanks and Regards,
    Saumya Maheshwari

    Hello Saumya,
    I have sent you a Upgrade note. Hope that will be of help. However, I like to tell you that there is no migration procedure, per se. But you could follow the steps in the document and it should be a straight forward approach to 2000.
    In case,the authentification of the SQL Server 7.0 is set to "Windows NT only";While upgrading, the user chooses "The SQL Server system administrator login information (SQL Server authentication)" in the "Connect to Server" step and enters the password for the system administrator (sa).
    In the next step, the upgrade program checks if the user can log on to SQL Server. First, the Windows authentification of the logged on user is checked, which is successful. The 'sa' user and the relevant password are not verified. However, later in the upgrade process, the program tries to execute the scripts with the 'sa' user; this fails due to the "Windows NT only" authentification for SQL Server. The error ("Error running script: upgrade.sql(1)") message is written to the log file (upgrade.out) of the script (upgrade.sql):
    Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL
    Solution - The upgrade program of SQL Server 2000 saves the settings of the upgrade in the registry. You can change the authentification mode there. Start the registry editor and go to the following entry in the left panel:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Setup\Resume\
    Locate the "DO-NT" value in the right panel. Change this value from "0" (SQL Server authentification) to "1" (NT authentification). You can then restart the upgrade; the program now logs on to SQL Server via the Windows authenification and also executes the scripts under this authentification.
    Please award points in case you find the solution of help to you.
    Thanks
    Sumit

  • MS SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 upgrade

    Hi,
    I need to upgrade my actual SAP DataBase SQL Server 2000 from Service Pack 2 to Service Pack 4 in order to be more secure as a MS consultant is requesting, but following the comments on the SAP note 1026116 attached file, which references this MS article:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/B/D/1BDF5B78-584E-4DE0-B36F-C44E06B0D2A3/ReadmeSql2k32sp4.htm
    Referenced Text:
    "If your instance of SQL Server 2000 is being used by an application, first check with the provider of the application whether there are any SQL Server 2000 upgrade considerations specific to that application. "
    So following this instructions is there any SQL Server 2000 upgrade to Service Pack 4 considerations for a SAP Database of an ERP R3 ECC 6.0.
    Could anyone can help me please with this question?
    Best Regards,
    Erik Espinosa

    Hi,
    Service Pack 4 is supported and recommended for SAP ERP ECC 6.0. There are currently no known issues with upgrading to this service pack. The mentioned collation change don't have to be performed as long as you are not planning to upgrade to SQL Server 2005.
    Best regards

  • Connecting to MS SQL server 2000 with SSMS 2008

    Hello
    I have been trying to solve this problem for months now and searched lots of threads, but no success.
    Our office has sql server 2000 database, which is installed on Windows XP. I am given 'sa' password. On my computer, which is Windows 7, I have SSMS 2008. I am able to connect to mentioned server using Windows ODBC data source and with MS Access.
    The problem is no matter what I tried, I could not connect with SSMS. When I go to "Server Connection" > "Server Name" > > "Network Servers" in SSMS, the needed server is found automatically, but I still fail to connect.
    I know that SSMS 2008 should be able to connect to server2000 (or maybe I am wrong?).
    Please help.

    TITLE: Connect to Server
    Cannot connect to SOFODB.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -2)

    I am not sure but this type of issue can be resolved by increasing time out.Time out sec is 15 by default change it to 60 or 120 and see if you can connect if not please revert.
    When you are connecting using SSMS click on option button...In connection properties page see for connection timeout...change it to 60 or 120 .See if this works

  • Database login failed after upgrade to VS 2008

    I am having trouble with one of my reports after upgrading a project from VS 2005 to VS 2008. All reports work fine except for one. The one that doesn't work has a subreport and I am assuming that the subreport is the cause of the problem.
    My configuration is  - using Crystal Reports Professional XI  (11.5.8.826)
    The web server has Crystal reports server install, but I know very little about it. When I installed it, I had so much trouble configuring it, I don't know what it is that I finally got to work on the server. I think I ended up installing one of the runtimes a while back to get it working.
    When I upgraded my project, I simply opened the project in VS 2008, set the target as .net 3.5, built it and everything works except for this one report.
    Can someone please tell me what I need to install, or change on the server to make this work properly?
    Is there a way that I can determine how my reports are being served up? As I said, I'm not very familiar with the CR server and I had a lot of trouble with it when I did the initial configuration.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply. I got the upgrade complete, but I am still getting the database logon error.  I am using Visual Studio 2008, C#, Crystal Reports 2008 (dll version 12.0.2), Sql Server 2000. All of my reports work fine except for this one. The difference in this one is that it has a subreport. The report and subreport are using stored procedures. I have tried using the sa account to login to them. They login to two different databases on the same database server.
    Here is the code that I am using to login to the database.
    public enum ReportDatabase{MGA, Brokers, Intranet, TimeClock };
            public void SetDBLogonForTables(Tables tables, ReportDatabase database)
                string _userid = string.Empty;
                string _password = string.Empty;
                switch (database)
                    case ReportDatabase.MGA:
                        _userid = "abc";
                        _password = "123";
                        break;
                    case ReportDatabase.Brokers:
                        _userid = "abc";
                        _password = "123";
                        break;
                    case ReportDatabase.Intranet:
                        _userid = "abc";
                        _password = "123";
                        break;
                    case ReportDatabase.TimeClock:
                        _userid = "abc";
                        _password = "123";
                        break;
                ConnectionInfo _connection = new ConnectionInfo();
                _connection.ServerName = "123.123.123.212";
                _connection.DatabaseName = database.ToString();
                _connection.UserID = _userid;
                _connection.Password = _password;
                foreach (Table table in tables)
                    TableLogOnInfo _logoninfo = table.LogOnInfo;
                    _logoninfo.ConnectionInfo = _connection;
                    table.ApplyLogOnInfo(_logoninfo);

  • Siebel 8.1 and MS SQL Server 2000

    I am upgrading our Siebel 7.8 instance running on MS SQL Server 2000 to Siebel 8.1 and MS SQL Server 2008. My original intent was to upgrade the database first (so that we would be runing Siebel 7.8 on MS SQL Server 2008), and then upgrade the application to 8.1.
    I have been running into resource issues with regard to the SQL Server upgrade. My question is:
    Can Siebel 8.1.1 run on MS SQL Server 2000?
    Thanks.
    -- Ken

    Hi
    You can migrate your 7.8 to MSSQL 2008 as this is a supported platform.
    Usually in an upgrade you will upgrade your development db platform as a source of your 8.1 upgrade process.
    For information, a reference document is the Siebel System Requirements and Supported Platforms aka SRSP

    When running STM (SAP Tools for SQL Server) on the target server I get the following error:

    Where 'sid' is the SAPSID of your system in lower case.
      setuser 'dev'
      exec sap_use_var_MAX

    Request
    I'm thinking if any one of you is able to access an SAP system on SQL Server (2005 or other) with the above mentioned stored procedure present you could scipt it to a txt file and post it here in order for me to create it manually on my system.
    I've checked several SAP Notes on this subject and none of them explains how to create this store procedure from scratch, they all just assume it's already there and tell you to execute it.
    Thank you.
    Bruno Pereira

    I was able to solve this issue just now the following way:
    - A friend of mine scripted it to a file which I then used to create the sap_use_var_MAX on the target database.
    Here is a copy of that file:
    USE [<SID>]
    GO
    SET ANSI_NULLS ON
    GO
    SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
    GO
    create proc [<sid>].[sap_use_var_MAX] as
    begin
      declare @tabname sysname
      declare @colname sysname
      declare @datatype sysname
      declare @nullflag nvarchar(1)
      declare @cmd nvarchar(1024)
      declare @n_altered int
      declare c cursor for
        select t.TABLE_NAME,c.COLUMN_NAME,c.DATA_TYPE,
                  nullflag = substring(c.IS_NULLABLE,1,1)
          from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS c,
               INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES t
          where c.TABLE_NAME = t.TABLE_NAME AND
                c.TABLE_SCHEMA = t.TABLE_SCHEMA AND
                t.TABLE_TYPE like '%TABLE%' AND
                c.TABLE_SCHEMA = schema_name() AND
                c.DATA_TYPE IN ('text','ntext','image')
          order by t.TABLE_NAME,c.COLUMN_NAME
      open c
      set @n_altered = 0
      fetch next from c into @tabname,@colname,@datatype,@nullflag
      while (@@fetch_status <> -1)
      begin
        if (@@fetch_status <> -2)
        begin
          set @cmd = N'alter table [' + @tabname +
                      N'] alter column [' + @colname +
                      N'] '
          if @datatype = N'text'
            set @cmd = @cmd + N'varchar(MAX)'
          else if @datatype = N'ntext'
            set @cmd = @cmd + N'nvarchar(MAX)'
          else
            set @cmd = @cmd + N'varbinary(MAX)'
          if @nullflag = N'N'
              set @cmd = @cmd + ' NOT NULL'
          else
              set @cmd = @cmd + ' NULL'

      end
      close c
      deallocate c
      select convert(varchar,@n_altered) + N' columns were altered'
    end -- sap_use_var_MAX
    Mind you, you'll have to change <SID> and <sid> acoordingly, considering also if your db is dbo schema or sid schema owned!
    Thank you for your help nonetheless!

  • Which is the best way to migrate the SQL SERVER 2000 Database to SQL SERVER 2003 Database?

    Hi,
        I  need to migrate the Production database sql server 2000 to Sql server 2003, Please give me the best idea to migrate the database without any loss data, credentials and  Objects.
    Nandha Kumar

    SQL server does not have any version named SQL server 2003 please check the version correctly it should be either SQL 2005,2008,2008 R2,2012
    You can use the backup/restore to upgrade the SQL 2000 database to till SQL 2005,2008,2008R2
    For SQL Server 2000 to 2012
    First upgrade from SQL 2000 database to either SQL 2005, 2008 or 2008R2 and than upgrade it to SQL 2012.

    And after migration to SQL 2005 or 2008, if you want to script the database than can generate scripts pick DB and check off "script all objects in the selected database".

  • SQL Server 2000\2005 compatibility with Active Directory 2012

    Hi All,
    We are currently using Active Directory 2003 and will be upgrading to AD 2012.  I'm trying to determine if there is any known compatibility issues when running older versions of SQL Server (2000 and 2005) when upgrading to AD 2012.   I've
    read forums from when others went from AD 2003 to AD 2008 and didn't experience any issues.  We have the newer versions of SQL but I'm not too concerned about these.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated?   Has anyone been through
    this process.
    Thanks,

    Hi CraftsmanRobert,
    Based on my understanding, you used Active Directory 2003, then it would be upgraded to Active Directory 2012. You wanted to run older versions of SQL Server (2000 and 2005) with Active Directory 2012.
    Firstly, there can be a compatibility problem when run older version with Active Directory 2012. SQL Server 2005 (the release version and service packs) and earlier versions of SQL Server are not supported on Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012,
    Windows 8.1, or Windows 8. For more information, please refer to this article: How to use SQL Server in Windows and Windows Server environments (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562/en-us).
    Besides, Microsoft doesn’t provide assisted support for SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 already. Please upgrade the existing instance of SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 to a new version like SQL Server 2012. You can download SQL Server 2012 Express
    from this link:
