Sqlplus won't connect w/o specification

I have defined
ORACLE_SID=MYDB
Which is defined as a remote database in my tnsnames file.
SQLPlus will only connect when I
Enter user-name: sparks@mydb
If I don't include that:
Enter user-name: sparks
Enter password: ********
ERROR:
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
How can I make that work w/o having to specify the database?
=== Al

Not to nit-pick, but it depends on the shell you're using.
csh syntax is
set SOME_ENVIRONMENT blah
whereas bourne shell syntax (including bash) is
SOME_ENVIRONMENT=blah
export SOME_ENVIRONMENT
With bash (and maybe ksh) you can shorten this to one line with:
export SOME_ENVIRONMENT=blah
=== Al

Try visiting http://67.210.120.128 (the IP address of that URL). If you can reach the Web site, there's something wrong with the DSN services that your Mac and/or AirPort Express are using.
How is the Express configured? What do you see in "DNS Server(s)" in the Internet panel, "TCP/IP" tab?

  • FaceTime won't connect to one specific contact.

    I'm having trouble with FaceTime.
I was able to FaceTime my girlfriend 3 nights ago and it worked perfectly fine. After about half an hour however it cut off and ever since then I haven't been able to connect to her. She tells me that she is able to FaceTime all of her other contacts but as soon as she goes to FaceTime me it doesn't work.
The call comes through but when either of us click answer, it stops at connecting and after so long says "so and so is not currently available to FaceTime".
Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how it could be solved?

  • Dell Inspiron 3520 won't connect to my wifi

My Inspiron 3520 won't connect to a specific wifi connection I had been connecting to before. I can connect to other wifi connections but not this one specifically. Other devices are still able to connect to this wifi.

    Hi,
Sounds like you just need to reset that wireless profile / connection to that specific wifi network.  Here is an article from Microsoft on how to manage wireless network.
    These instructions assume Windows 7:
To delete a wireless network connection
    Start Network and Sharing Center.
In the Tasks pane, click Manage wireless networks.
Right-click the connection you want to delete, and then click Remove network.
In the Manage Wireless Networks - Warning dialog box, click OK.
Then reconnect to that wireless network and it should rebuild your profile for that network.
Let me know if this helps, or if you found some other way to resolve your problems.

  • Safari Won't Connect To Specific Network. Firefox Will!

I have a specific issue with Safari (and Mail.app) on a specific network I try to connect to.
The network is one offered on a train service, and pre-Lion I've been able to connect to it just fine.
All of a sudden my MBP and MBA are able to connect to the network - but if I try and start Safari it just bounces away in the dock.
On the rare occasion that Safari starts it won't connect to any webpages. Mail.app also refuses to work in the same way.
If I use Firefox - I can use the internet as normal (although I still have issues with Mail.app).
The bigger issue occurs when I am off the train and trying to use my laptop on other networks - Safari and Mail continue to refuse to work, even though the laptop tells me I'm connected. I have to restart the entire machine.
I've deleted networks from the SysPrefs, reordered them, tried a Google DNS etc etc. I've Googled the issue like crazy, and even contacted the train operator! - and so far come up with nothing.
Any help would be much apprecieted.

Do you have anti virus software installed or any apps like Little Snitch?
Try deleting the cache associated with Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac, try Safari.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For LIon:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • T520 won't connect to specific wifi

    Hello,
I own a T520 Thinkpad. My school allows us to connect our computers to their wifi, which they run with a couple of Cisco routers. A couple of weeks ago, they were having some trouble with the internet, it went up and down and most of the students lost their connections for a couple of minutes. However, the next day everything was back to normal, except for my T520.
My laptop refuses to even acknowledge their wifi, I can find it on the wireless network list, but if I try to connect it doesn't even bother trying, it just pops up a notice saying it failed. Doesn't matter if I use the correct password or a false one. I've tried manually removing the wifi from my saved networks list, I've tried disabling and re-enabling the wireless network card. I should mention that it can connect to any other wifi I've tried, including my home wifi and my cell phones internet sharing.
When nothing worked, I went to the schools IT-technician. He could not find anything wrong, so he first tried with a system rollback, and when that did not work, a complete format and re-install of the OS (Windows 7). My T520 still won't connect, and I'm completely out of ideas. I would greatly appreciate it if someone possibly knew what is wrong and would share a possible solution with me. I'm ready to supply more information if needed (Couldn't figure what more information you may need) and I would like to thank you in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Isak
EDIT: I remember changing from high performance to energy saving during the time of the internet problems. I've since changed back and forth to try with no results.

I assume that "TYPE" is what I was supposed to look for. I found the following: TYPE 4242-DG5. The laptop runs a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise. As far as I could see and unless the computer came pre-installed with it, I don't have Thinkvantage Access Connections. I'll be sure to bring a wifi adapter with me tomorrow and test it out.
I greatly appreciate the response and hope that we can find the problem.

Don't mention it Isak, i just hope we can help!
Could you check if your wireless adapter is Intel Wimax 6250 AGN? Right click on Computer, click Properties, upper left corner click on Device Manager, then Network Adapters. If so, download this driver and install it.
If it isn't the 6250, could you tell me the model name you see?

  • HP 6520 wifi won't connect

Just took a 6520 out of the box, trying to set it up/print to it from a windows 8.1 computer, after returning a 4620 printer that had the same problem.
Ran the setup software. Setup software can't even manage to figure out what wireless network the computer it's running on is connected to - useless.
Printer can find the wireless network, and when using the wrong password, won't connect, citing wrong password.
When I use the right password, it just fails to connect.
I've rebooted my router, rebooted my computer, rebooted the printer. No good. Print doctor software is useless as it can't even find the printer.
I've turned off MAC filtering on my router, and disabled Windows Firewall. Nothing.
I have an epson printer that has no problem connecting, and every other wifi capable device I own can connect to my wifi with no problem, from both Android and apple phones to tablets to four different PCs and laptops to my freaking nest thermostat. Why can't my printer manage to just work over wifi?
I do not have a USB cable for the printer (it wasn't sold with one), btw, so trying that is out (besides, I bought this as a wireless printer, not a wired printer).
    Help please.

    Hi MattMihaly,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I see you have a Photosmart 6520 and a Windows 8.1 computer that don't seem to want to talk to one another. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will certainly do my best to help!
I would suggest you start by following the steps for Windows 8 in this 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During a Wireless Network Installati... document (make sure to follow the Option two: Connect with the Wireless Setup Wizard under Step five). If that doesn't resolve it, please try the steps under Your printer has never worked over the network in the HP Wireless printing center.
I realize you may have tried some of these steps, perhaps all of them, before but often trying them in a specific order is what makes the difference

  • IPhone 4s: Won't Connect To iTunes 50% Of The Time

Ok, I'm having a problem similar to ones I've been reading about, but after browsing the forum for several hours, I haven't found one that is exactly the same.
When opening the app store from my new 4s, I can connect to the iTunes store exactly 50% of the times I try.  It's literally an every-other-time-it-won't-connect situation.  And it happens on both wifi AND 3G (verizon), in any location, and will happen whether or not I am actually logged into my itunes account.
I've tried all of the following:
    - Turning on celluar data
    - Resetting network settings
    - Logging in and out of account
    - Resetting clock (I found something online that said this might work)
What I've found is that if I open the app store, it connects.  Then, if I minimize and try to come back, it tells me it can't connect.  But if I minimize and then kill the app and then open it again, it connects just fine.
This is really more of an annoyance than anything - since so far I've been able to connect just fine by entering the app store twice, but I'd really like to fix this considering I've had the phone for less than a week.  It's my first Apple product, and all I've ever heard about was how good they are at avoiding this type of thing....
Any help would be appreciated. I've reached out to Apple for support but I fear their response is going to be generic and unhelpful.

Same with me, but now (only since the 1.1.1 update) it happens regardless of whether EDGE is working/available. I keep trying different ways to fix i, but *I KEEP GETTING THE SAME MESSAGE* - _'unable to connect...'_ I turn off and turn back on the specific Network for WiFi and mess around with what I believe will be the

I have bought the wireless keyboard for my iPad.  I was working for a day but now the power light won't stay on and as such won't connect to the iPad.  I have changed the batteries but still no difference.

Not knowing which wireless keyboard you bought, it is difficult to be specific.  but ...
it is quite normal for the keyboard's power light not to stay on - it is a way of conserving battery power.
    Try this:
    turn you keyboard off
on your iPad go to Settings > Bluetooth
if your keyboard is listed under Devices, then touch the little blue i to its right and choose Forget this Device
now reset your iPad:  hold both the Home and Power buttons down for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go promptly when the Apple logo appears and wait another 30 seconds for your iPad to turn itself on
After your iPad is back on again go back to Settings > Bluetooth
now turn your keyboard back on and see if it appeard under Now Discoverable
if it doesn't read your keyboard guide to figure out how to put it into Discovery mode
touch the listing for your keyboard under Now Discoverable, it should now appear under Devices
touch the listing for you keyboard under Devices, and choose to pair with it.

  • Sqlplus hangs when connecting to database after applying patch 10.2.0.4

Hi, I applied the patchset 10.2.0.4 and CPU January 2010 on my 10g database. my server is a windows 2003 x64 with a specif user (oradb)
When I tried to logon to the database, it took 15 minutes for a normal user to logon and every request is almost as long.
if I log as SYSDBA everything looks fine.
I don't see anything relevant in the alert_log or listener.log
The only thing unusual that I can see is from the view v$session_wait. It looks that there is 26 to 28 processes that are connected with timeout status, the database that I have in lab runs with 11-16 processes.
Can somebody tell me what can I look for ?
    Thank you

I use the listener both locally and on remote console but it's always the same behavior :
cmd> sqlplus sys@production as sysdba // Connect without a glitch
    cmd> sqlplus user1@production // Connect after 15 minutes
    There's nothing in the alert_production.log and listener.log
Actually, any user that has the SYSDBA privilege is able to connect without any issue. I tried the same thing with test
    cmd> sqlplus test1@production as sysdba

  • My iphone 5 is in recovery mode and won't connect to itunes

I was trying to update my phone using itunes but now my iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode and won't connect to itunes.

    Hello nancarter97,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone 5.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was stuck in recovery mode and not recognized in iTunes so that you can restore it.
I recommend the following article for the issue you described and specifically this step:
    5. Use iTunes to restore your device.
If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.

I have an Ipad and an Ipod Touch 5th gen both on the latest firmwares but they won't connect via Bluetooth whenever I try even though both shows that the devices are discoverable. I also tried connecting them with my Bluetooth enabled laptop but it also didn't worked. Because of the Bluetooth not working I also can't enable airdrop.

    What you need
To share content with AirDrop, both people need one of these devices using iOS 7 or later, or a Mac with OS X Yosemite:
    iPhone 5 or later
    iPad (4th generation or later)
    iPad mini
    iPod touch (5th generation)
You also need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If you want to share with your contacts, sign in to your iCloud account.

To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.

Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need the Mac models listed below with Wi-Fi turned on and OS X Lion or later installed.

  • Wifi at home won't connect?

I'm sure this has probably came up before because I've been searching all over the web and seen many people asking, but still can't find an answer.
But the problem is that my ipod touch won't connect to my house's wifi. I get strong signal and I get an IP address and all that stuff, but I can't get on safari and other internet apps. My PSP and Xbox live connects over the wifi just fine, but my ipod touch won't.
I was able to briefly get on my neighbors wifi and it worked fine, but the signal was too weak and far away to be useful. So I was wondering if anyone knows what could be the problem, and how to fix it. I've tried the apple troubleshooting but nothing worked.
And I don't know a thing about computers, so please try to limit the confusing words. Thanks in advance.
32gb 3rd gen ipod touch. Just got it last week.

Do you know anything about your wi-fi network? It would help if you could tell us a few things:
1- Does it require a password to get connected? Since your other devices connect, do you remember if you had to enter a password? If so, the password is case-sensitive and you'll have to enter it exactly as your router expects.
2- If you've entered a password and still can't connect, do you know what type of security encryption is being used for your network? (typically WEP, WPA, or WPA2). If you're using WEP, for some reason the Touch has a hard time with that and people have better luck with WPA or WPA2 encryption (those are more secure anyway).
3- All network devices have a unique "MAC address". Your router could be set up to only allow devices whose address has been entered into the router's MAC address table. If that's the case, you'll need to enter your Touch's MAC address (go to Setings/ About/ Wi-Fi address) into the router's table. However, not all networks are set up with MAC adress filtering.
4- What make and model of router does your network use? Perhaps users here will have specific advice for you.

    did you change
