SSD partition disabled

Hi!
As I was restarting my laptop - HP Envy dv6
I got the next screen:
and I got scared because when I tried to repair it, it said that the RAID structure would be gone,
can I fix it without losing the SSD I have?
This is the configuration I have:

Try opening the Intel Rapid Start Technology Manager in Windows and see what it says. The actual bootable 8 gig acceleration cache is still active per the screen you posted. The mSSD is divided into two partitions and you should be able to see what is going on with the other partition on the mSSD through that manager.

Can't install win 8 x64 on SSD partition on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with a 512gb SSD drive and I'm trying to use Bootcamp to install windows 8 off a flash drive to half of the SSD partition. When I get to the windows installation screen after reboot, it tells me I can't install to that partition that Bootcamp created and that my hardware might not support booting aff that partition. I tried deleting it and reformatting it but that didn't work.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?

How did you create the Bootcamp partition and how did you delete it in your attempts to install Windows?

The OS as already stated does not know the difference. The SSD will perform as it does with any operating system. SSDs can be partitioned as can HDDs.
My Bootcamp partition is running exactly like it did on my HDD only faster. I have not experienced any issues with the Bootcamp partition or the SSD.

I can't find my 22GB SSD partition on my Hybrid disk

I have a S400u with a Hybrid disk in it. 500gb / 22GB SSD
After a virus (see my other post, lot of probleme to find my disk in UEFI ), I Diskpart > clean to install a clean win8 on my computer.
Now i can't find my SSD partition except in the boot manager and in the BIOS. I have intel RST drivers installed.
Anyone has a solution for me?

Looking at the screenshot, we can conclude that the SSD is not getting detected properly (on diskpart and on disk management). Given that you were able to detect both SSD and HDD by installing the RAID drivers, both drives should show up under Disk Management and on diskpart.
It's possible that the SSD is failing but you need to run a diagnostic test to verify its health. One sure way to test it is to take out the SSD out of the machine and put in an enclosure (like this one) and test it inside Windows
Alternatively, you can try the Expresscache software for data caching (you will need to install Win8 in AHCI mode - this will show both HDD/SSD under Disk Management and you can use HD Tune to run diagnostics on the drive).

Macbook air ssd partition disappeared?

Greetings. I am currently dealing with something a bit unusual. The partition where all the Mountain Lion OS was stored cant be detected in any way by my macbook air. I tried everything, trying to reselect as a startup disk, apple internet recovery, reseting NVRAMit just wont show up in the list of Disks in the Disk utility. All I get is the recovery partition which is Disk0 "MAC OS X Base System" which is 1.32GB or so. Please help as I start to get very upset, this is my work machine and I need it for an important presentation this weekend. It's a macbook air 13 mid 2012 8GB Ram 120GB SSD (I believe its the toshiba one). Thanks for reading!

Probably you put an app in full-screen. Move the cursor to the top right and select the blue button, so the menu bar will show again

How to wipe all SSD Partitions?

Hi - I am one of the guys, who have been trying to figure out how to create an offline USB recovery disk for my 2011 MBA. I have succeeded in doing it. In the process, I think I may have hosed one or more partitions on the SSD. Here's my symptoms...
1. Restart normal - works perfectly
2. Restart, holding cmd-r -> get the "spinning globe", and a drop-down list of SSIDs to connect wireless to. Presumably, this is to download and build the recovery partition. Issue is, the list of SSIDs is limited to 3 or 4, and doesn't include mine! There is a .... screen to enter the SSID and password, but, it won't accept any combination I try.
3. Restart, holding down alt key, shows two disks. Regular disk,, and recovery partition. If I select the recovery partition, it leads me to the appropriate screens, to run diskutility, or reinstall lion, etc
Running disk utility shows my lion partition as being 250.14GB. Seems like I may have lost some space? What do others who have the new MBA with 256 disk see?
Any suggestions? Seems like I can't see all the raw disk space being accounted for. Thansk.

Dualboot archlinux/ubuntu on SSD, partition alignement is so fun

Hi people.
I just bought one of those shiny thing called SSD (a Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB) and planning to install Archlinux on it (along with Ubuntu as a test system for running my apps under it and as a backup system, you know for when I'll try the last feature in kernel26-git and will break every thing).
I setup the disk according Tso's numbers : H=225 S=56
I tried to align my partition by hand using a 512kiB and create the ext4 filesystems using :
mkfs.ext4 -b 4096 -E stride=128 /dev/sdaX
Frankly I think that I misunderstood the head/cylinder thing :
- I manage to install Ubuntu (I use it currently)
- but I can't assign partition to mount point in Archlinux installer: it complain about a partition that finishes half of a cylinder.
So my question are:
Should I realign my partition using H=32 S=32 or could I ignore the installer error and mounting the partition myself (and will I loose performances if I do so) ?
Bonus :
The Archlinux wiki page on SSD (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SSD … _Alignment) does advise to a blocksize of 4kiB and a stride of 128kiB when creating the filesystem. I think it would be nice to advertise on that and I'm willing to add that myself but I not so sure about SSD and partitions so comments are welcome.

I was wrong in my previous post, maybe someone will need those informations later so I put them here :
It look like you need to customize block size and stride for raid only, so in my case I don't need it (don't remember where I read about that but I may have misunderstood something again). Furthermore it look like for a filesystem larger than 512MiB mke2fs will pickup a block size of 4kiB (as stated in the default section /etc/mk2fs.conf) of but I can't find much information on the -T usage_type parameter.
Can't someone correct me if I'm wrong ?

Speed-up SSD by disabling TRIM?

I read a post in the Corsair forum which says that SSDs can be speed-up considerably by disabling Windows 7 TRIM feature. Did anyone of you try it and does it work?

Can I back up a HDD and a SSD using the same external hard drive by partitioning the drive? I have a 128 GB SSD and a 500 TB HDD
and want to back up both using a 1 TB external hard drive.

Lion mysteriously erases SSD partition on external FireWire drive.

I'm not sure whether this is a problem with OS X, my SSD, or my external FireWire drive, so please bear with me.
Recently, I have been having some hardware problems on my MacBook Pro, and decided to send my computer off to be repaired. Before doing so, I took my Corsair Performance Pro SSD (still on firmware 1.0) out of my machine so that I could boot it from my FireWire 800 drive (Oyen Digital Minipro) onto the school computers.
Both times I have tried this (and on different machines!) I was able to successfully load my laptop installation. Then, after a few minutes, everything would suddenly freeze up (beach balls, et al) and I would have to shut down the computer. Afterwards, the system would not let me boot back into the external drive, and Disk Utility in the host OS would show that my partition had been completely erased, and that I would have to reformat the drive and restore from Time Machine.
Is it possible that Lion doesn't like being booted from FireWire drives? My OS X installation is still on 10.7.3 (as I have not had a chance to update yet) so maybe the FireWire driver has been fixed since then? Could this be a problem with my SSD? Or could my FireWire drive be malfunctioning? I have used this enclosure with a non-boot hard drive without any problems in the past.
Sorry this question is so broad, but I am at a complete loss.

In the "Current" Volume Scheme, the 8GB partition is on top. The 85GB is below that. Originally, the 20GB partition was between them. There is no grey mass i.e. free space in the middle.
Is there a grey mass anywhere? top? bottom?
In other words, do the two white sections that represent the active partitions fill the entire block, or is there any other space that's vacant?
All volumes on the drive are/were formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I'm not sure but, I think that corresponds to "GUID"...right?
No, Mac OS X Extended (whether journaled or not) is independent of the partition scheme in use.
The bottom of the Disk Utility window should report the partition format.

The drive no longer has a volume or partitions thus it can't be repaired in Disk Utility.
I downloaded a number of trial software programs that:
1) Finds the partitions and
2) Will enable particular files to be lifted off to another drive.
That's an OK Plan B.
However, I'm wondering if there's software that will look at directories/files and rebuild the partition such that the drive works again. Then I can re-enable time machine and will at least have a backup if it happens again while I wait it out until the new iMacs come.
Does anyone know of software that essentially recreates the partition so that the drive will boot again?

X240 ssd partitions

I have in front of me a brand new ThinkPad X240 and I'm trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to dual boot with preinstalled Windows 7. On my previous ThinkPads there were two partitions, the operating system and the recovery partition but on the X240 there are in total four partitions as it comes out of the box.
In order to add Ubuntu on to the hard drive I need to free up one of them, since only four primary partitions can be on a hard drive. The problem is that I don't know what is on what partition. They are:
SYSTEM_DRV
Windows7_OS
Lenovo_Recovery
Unknown
What are those SYSTEM_DRV and the Unkown one? Is it safe for me do format either of them so I can dual boot the computer? Or is there another solution for me?

Lenovo win7 preloaded systems contain:
1. SYSTEM_DRV - system partition. Contains m$ environment WinPE and Lenovo Rescue&Recovery tools. Do not remove it
2. Windows - OS&apps
3. Lenovo_Recovery - contains .wim archives for the Factory Recovery Media creation using Lenovo tool (in Control Panel). After the recovery media (cd+3dvd or usb stick) is created this partition might be deleted.
4. seems it's an unused free space. Look at the content of this partition. I suppose its size is about 160...170 gb or several Mbs. Definitely it might be deleted.
Note after the partitions wiil be resized or deleted Lenovo Rescue&Recovery application should be reinstalled in order to laptop could boot into SYSTEM_DRV partition for the recovery reason in the future.

SSD partitions on Satellite Z830

Hello,
Just got a new Toshiba Satellite Z830 13". Great machine so far! small hard drive though!
I was wondering if, after creating the bootable recovery media, I can repartion the SSD drive in order to get more space.
I got this computer with a 128Gb SSD drive wit 4 partions on it:
1: Recovery partition
2: Hyberanation Partition
3. Primary partion:
4. Primary partition, main partition :
what if I delete Hibernation partition and the smaller primary partition? then I should gain more free space expanding the main one..
HAs anyone ever tried?

Hi
Recovery disk is important because this will allow you to set the notebook back to factory settings. If you have created such disk in the past, you can delete the last two partitions (HDD recovery partition, data partition) and can change the partitions size of the C (system) partition.
I dont recommend to modify the first, hidden partition which contains the Win 7 repair files. This partition has been created by Win 7 automatically and should not be touched.

Make an ssd-partition for ram

i do allready know its possible to make a partition and to use it as ram. now what i was wondering, is it possible to get my applicationsfolder moved to that partition? me and a friend of me are about to soft-mod a ps3 to run mac on it, and the ps3 dont have that much ram available so thats a small factor that were gonna hit when it comes to installing it and making it all working so... and i know that this isnt a hackintosh-forum or what so ever, but i was just wondering. im about to make this work on my iMac as well. ps3's have a power-processor so why not taking the advantage of it? it would be the best of both worlds, a mac witch is able to game with! and NO isnt illegal, since ps3 provided us a way to install any other os, and i know for a fact that linux is able to run on it. only windows doesnt because they dont support power-processors.
i realy hope someone can help me out with this, would be really great!

How to Disable or Replace SSD Drive on HP 700-330qe

Help for My 5-Month-Old HP! This is Killing Me! I bought an HP 700-330qe in 2014 from Amazon, and just started getting SMART hard drive errors from Windows whenever my computer restarts, telling me that hard disk failure is imminent. It also tells me to shut down the computer immediately, back it up, contact the manufacturer, etc. Never saw this in any PC I have owned before. I naturally freaked out and did some research on the internet, discovering it is relatively easy to clone and replace a hard drive. I ordered a new Western Digital 3 TB hard drive from Amazon, a Cable Matters brand hard drive docking station from Amazon, and downloaded Macrium Reflect free disk management software. Items from Amazon arrived in a couple of days and I got to work making a clone of my one and only hard drive. Clone was made with little problem. Shut down the computer, opened it up and replaced the old hard drive with the new one. Booted the computer back up, and got the same message about imminent hard drive failure!! So I paid more attention to it this time, and looked up the model number given in the warning message, which was: ScanDisk SDSA6DM-016G-1006. I Googled that and discovered it was the solid state drive (SSD) used as a cache to speed up certain operations. Arrgh. I stuck my old hard drive into the hard drive docking station and was prepared to clone both the SSD partition and all of the partitions from the main hard drive onto the one hard drive, and the remove or at least unplug the SSD to get rid of this issue. The software told me the SSD is formatted as MPR (or something like that) while the main hard drive is formatted as GPT, which are different types of hard drive formatting, so you can't copy those different types of partitions onto one hard drive. Okay, so here are my options as I see them: 1) I need to either disable the SSD, but I don't know how and I don't know if the computer will still even boot up. Is Windows partially installed on the SSD? I don't know.2) Clone and replace the SSD in much the same way as I did with the main hard drive. I can get the following SSD from Amazon for $49: Kingston Digital 60GB SSDNow V300 SATA 3 2.5 (7mm height) with Adapter Solid State Drive SV300S37A/60G. For option #2 above, the only problem is that I have no idea where the OEM ScanDisk SSD is currently installed in my computer!!?!?!? Is it in the hard drive cage?? I didn't see anything else installed in there. I thought it was in the cage directly above the hard drive cage, but I think what I was looking at was the front memory card reader/USB ports. I only have on CD drive installed and I can see where that is. Help!!! PS: I also downloaded EaseUS Partition Master 10.2 and used it to scan the SSD. While it was scanning it found 9 bad blocks (out of tens of thousands of blocks) but when it finished the scan it said there were no bad blocks. To have this happen on an SSD, which is supposed to be more reliable than regulard hard drives, make this situation so much more aggravating. At least I upgraded my hard drive from 2TB to 3TB, and now know that I can do it. Sigh.

Update. So I spent about 1 hour chatting with HP tech support. First we had to clarify the fact that the standard HP warranty runs longer than 4 months. The tech support person originally informed me that the warranty is only 1 year from date of purchase. I then told him I purchased the computer on 8-15-14. He looked up my records and stated my warranty period was 8-21-14 through 12-31-14. After I told him my math tells me that time period was only 4 months, he got it figured out and confirmed my PC was still under warranty.
Anyway, after remotely logging into my PC and running a test, he got a failure code he needed, and then had me open up my PC case and type in the HP part number on the label of the MSATA drive. He first typed that I would get a box with instructions on where to mail my PC so it could be repaired, which would take 2-3 weeks. As this is the main family home PC and has tons of personal information, I stated this was unnaceptable. Ok, so plan B was the replacement was going to be sent to my house so I could replace it myself, expected arrival within 7-12 days. Surprise, just 2 days later I come from work to find a small box waiting for me. I tear it open and get ready to install the replacement, but what do I find? Instead of sending an MSATA Sandisk 16GB SSD, they send me a Seagate 750GB laptop SSHD. The picture of what they sent is below. Got back online chatting with HP support tonight, and their records showed they sent me an MSATA Sandisk 16GB SSD. This has now been escalated to a supervisor, and I am supposed to be receiving a phone call within 24-48 hours. This is turning into a really bad customer service experience for me, and is making me think twice about buying another HP computer. We have 3 HP desktops in this house and are on the 3rd HP laptop now. I really hope they send me the correct part before the whole thing dies on me.
