SSH Pasting Passwords

I have over 30 sites i maintain and update via terminal and SHH. For security reasons my isp has just imposed a new password regime with long convoluted passwords.
Is there any way to get terminal to accept pasted passwords?

Can you use ssh keys instead? This would allow using your own pass phrase associated with the key you create.
ssh-keygen -t rsa
Now copy the *$HOME/.ssh/id_rsa.pub* file to each site and append the *id_rsa.pub* file to the remote account's *.ssh/authorized_keys* file (repeat the copy and append 29 more times).
Now you should be able to connect based on your ssh key and no longer need to enter the long convoluted password. Instead you just need to enter your own selected ssh key pass phrase.
And you can use *ssh-add* after starting your Mac to add your pass phrase to the ssh-agent already running in the background. Once you do this, ssh will ask the ssh-agent before prompting you for a pass phrase it already knows.
This should totally streamline your ssh and scp access to the 30 remote sites.

  • [SOLVED] gnome-keyring-daemon not loading SSH key password on login

I have a SSH key that I use extensively that has a cumbersome password that I prefer not typing when possible. I know that gnome-keyring-daemon is supposed to have the ability to save the SSH key password, unlock the Passwords:logins, and act as an SSH agent; however, that functionality appears to be missing. There's a strong possibility that I broke this trying to get other things working in GNOME.
Is there a D-Bus or PolicyKit option that I need to change?
    Solution:
Turns out this is now handled by pam. The password key store would unlock automatically if I used gnome-screensaver but failed to unlock on X startup so I installed GDM.

More info. I have been able to get gnome-keyring-daemon to ask for and store the password when I first use the SSH key. The dialog box for entering the SSH key password does not have an option to save the password indefinitely (I forget the exact verbiage) and I can't find anything in Seahorse to do the same.

  • Can't paste password in "connect to server" login box

I need to connect to a webDAV site that assigns temporary login passwords to my established ID. (The temp password lasts 8 hours and is 30+ characters long.)
In Leopard 10.5.6, I can't copy the assigned password from the resulting web page and paste it into the "connect to server" login password box. I can, however, paste the password into a text file. (Can't paste that into the box either.)
Pasting the password works with a Tiger installation on another machine and with a crappy XP laptop. I've tried to use it on my Leopard installation in a brand new account with no luck either.
    Huh?

  • Discussions login doesn't allow user to paste password

    Hi all,
is it just me or does the discussions.apple.com not allow you to paste your password when signing in? Seems a bit of a security issue leaving you open to keyloggers....

The Jive software that runs these forums does not allow it.
Most of us just let it autofill.

  • SSH / Expired Passwords

I've recently installed a batch of servers with Solaris 10 10/08 and have noticed that the way the Solaris sshd implementation deals with password change on login is different to previous versions of Solaris SSH and/or OpenSSH installed in out environment.
When the user with expired password logs in, he is prompted for a new password. If this password does not meet the complexity standards set for user passwords, the user is then prompted for their original password again instead of being asked to add a valid new password. This has led to a lot of users locking out their accounts because they keep trying to put in the new password
The session output looks like this
ssh -l user serverPassword: <-Enter Existing Password Here
Warning: Your password has expired, please change it now.
New Password: <-Enter new password that does not meet password standards
sshd-kbdint: The password must contain at least 1 uppercase alpha character(s).
Password: <- System requests exising password again
Warning: Your password has expired, please change it now.
New Password: <-Enter new valid password
Re-enter new Password: <-Re-enter new valid password
sshd-kbdint: password successfully changed for user
Any idea why this may be happening?
    Thanks.

  • Copy in Hub (email password) cannot paste password I copied into a web page

None of any seemingly pertinent subjects had any answers to assist.   I need to (as in 9810, copy anything, anywhere and paste anywhere.   Ridiculous amt of time searching thru Forum and finding nothing similar to my need.    Please, I can figure out how to paste (except in Documents) but strange I need a password link from email, copied and how can I log ito a website IF I cannot copy AND paste into site so I can login to that site.
Appreciate the new hub but not if I can't perform basics as in 9810. Deb

Highlight the text you want to copy. Depending on your OS version you should get a small menu that shows options for cut/copy/paste/ select, etc. If you don't, highlight the text, and hit the more key at the bottom and select Copy.
Then in the field you want to paste, touch and hold and you should get a pop up menu with a paste option. If you don't get the option, put the cursor in the field, hit the more button at the bottom, and then select paste.
That said, there are some fields where copy/paste doesn't work. If you're in an HTML email and the text is actually part of a picture you won't be able to copy it.

  • Cannot paste password into prompt when importing a certificate

I wanted to import an email signing certificate into my Keychain Access application, but when I import and am prompted for the password to open the certificate, the Keychain Access application won't let me paste anything in the password prompt.  Has this always worked this way?
I guess it discourages people from saving certificates with long random passwords.

  • Can't paste password to unencrypted drive

I am experimenting with creating an encrypted .dmg on my mac.  I have created the file in Disk Utility already.  I use 1password and prefer not to use Keychain for storing passwords to sensitive data.  I initially chose a password with 1password and copied it to paste it in the create .dmg dialog box.  It wouldn't paste in the field.  I ended up using the built in generator to create the password.  I then went to Keychain to copy the password to a 1passwor login and deleted the Keychain reference to it.  Thinking I had it all figured out I closed the drive and reopened it and attempted to paste the password.  It won't let me paste it.  Is this is bug?  It seems to force you to use keychain or use something more simple that you can remember which defeats the purpose of this in the first place.

  • When trying to log into App Store my keyboard does not come up and it asks me to paste password!

It won't let me log in...because it ask me to paste my password...I have no idea why it just started doing this!

Quit the App Store app and reset the iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Can't paste password after 3.1 update

I used to be able to copy a password from Notes and paste it into the password field of the App Store app. Since updating to 3.1 I can't get the Paste button to come up in the password field any more. Does anyone know whether this is a bug or intentional?

I am using OS 3.1 and I can do it. It must be something with your phone.
All I can suggest is the standard troubleshooting steps in order.
Restart your phone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset your phone: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Trouble with cut and paste password for wireless network

Command - C, Command-V did not let me paste wireless password from text edit. Any suggestions as to why? I was able to do so with right click.

It is one of mine. Yes. It connects to it no problem, just doesn't connect to the actual internet. Network diagnostics has all green lights until the ISP and/or Internet point. If I walk through diagnostics, it will get to the point where it says that the network requires a WEP password. I don't know why it does that because my network is not password-protected (husband claims it doesn't work well with his VPN system to get into work network). If I leave it blank, the connection will work. Eventually, after the computer is put to sleep, I will have the same problem upon waking up. I just tried renaming the network and removing all preferred networks and rebooting. Let's see how that works.

  • Can't paste password for new encrypted disk image.

    Howdy all!
I have been trying to create an encrypted disk image with the Disk Utility, but I'm having trouble with putting in the password.
Using the password assistant, it only fills one of the two password fields, and I cannot copy/paste the password to the other field. If I generate a password elsewhere I cannot paste it into either box as well.
If I switch applications from Disk Utility and come back to the password dialog the menubar says I am still in whatever application I was last (in this case it says Firefox at the very left) and the Edit menu is completely grayed out.
Any idea how to get a non-typeable password into this dialog?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mike

You can paste it in if you use hdiutil to create or mount the disk image (In Terminal.app). That's the
only way to go if you use a "bullet proof monster" password like I do.
To create an encrypted, sparse disk image, open a Terminal window and cd to the directory in which
you want to create the image file. For example:
    cd ~/Desktop
    Then type the command:
hdiutil create -size thesize -encryption -type SPARSE -fs HFS+ thename
    live command example:
hdiutil create -size 1g -encryption -type SPARSE -fs HFS+ myimage
(this will create a 1gigabyte sparse image with the hfs format with the name "myimage.sparseimage"
#note: I love sparseimages and sparsebundles because they mount so quickly#
Above, the size is the maximum size that the volume will ever be able to contain, for example,
660m for 660 megabytes or 1g for one gigabyte. Note that if you want the image file to remain
below a certain size (such as the size of a CD) you must allow for approximately 10% overhead.
Also above, thename is the name of the image file you want to create, not the volume name.
The volume name will be "untitled". Rename as you would any other mounted volume (after it is
    mounted).
You will be asked for a password or phase to secure your file. In terminal you may copy and paste
or use command + V keyboard combo. It will mount normally after that.
I don't use the "Remember password (add to Keychain)" function because my passphrase will be
visible in the Keychain to anyone with physical access to your computer.
Instead I use Terminal to open my new image.
    Open terminal.app, simply type:
    hdiutil attach /path/to/imagefile
    example:
    hdiutil attach /Users/kj/Desktop/myimage.sparseimage
(remember, you can drag and drop the file path into the terminal from Finder)
Terminal will ask for your password, simply cut and paste from your favorite password program
    (such as "1Password").
There is a manual page available; type man hdiutil in the Terminal.
    Enjoy,
    Kj

  • OS 3.1 Bug: Can't paste password into App Store dialog box

I searched for this and didn't see anything...
Since updating my iPhone to OS 3.1, I can no longer paste into the "iTunes Password" dialog box of the App Store app.
If I restart my iPhone, I can paste in the password, but only until putting the iPhone to sleep.
There's a thread about this same issue on the 1Password forum, but like I said, I can't find anything about it here or elsewhere on Apple.com:
    http://support.agilewebsolutions.com/showthread.php?t=19538
    Can anyone else confirm this?
    Thanks,

I can't get C&P to work in iTunes or the App Store no matter what I do. My password is way too long and complicated to type in so let the updates pile up. When they reach about 50 or so, I'll go through the aggravation. Then when my contract with AT&T is up, I'll toss this phone. I have had enough of Apple's ****. It's always something. They have too much control over their buggy OS's both on the iPhone and the MacBook. People are under the impression that the OSX is way better than Windows. NOT A PRAYER IN ****.
They don't even have the choices of which OS you might have, updated on the drop down menu below.

  • HT1349 Ipod touch won't move past password screen

my ipod touch 4g keeps asking for hotmail password. I enter it and it is not taking it and won't move past this screen. Any idea how to get this off?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ssh connectivity(password less)  for oracle unix account in 11gR2 RAC

    DB : 11.2.0.2
    OS : Unix
While installiation of RAC, password less connectivity setup is required between two nodes to copying files and to run commands. This is mandatory before installation.
But after installation, is it require to have password less connectivity ( SSH) between two nodes ? By locking "oracle" unix account breaks ssh connectivity between two nodes. Even though it's not breaking cluster, but do we really need ssh connectivity once RAC db is up and running ?

it is also used when you apply patches but not for everyday 'normal' operation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14203/prelinux.htm#BABJBAEB
Oracle Universal Installer uses the ssh and scp commands during installation to run remote commands on and copy files to the other cluster nodes. You must configure SSH so that these commands do not prompt for a password.
