SSRS 2008 R2 Column Graph, Scalar Axis, Columns Take more than 1 Category

In SSRS 2008 R2, I have created a stacked column graph with two data columns, using a scalar axis with dates.  If I have two columns next to one another, everything is rendered fine.  If all of my columns have space between them, then the columns
will take more than just the day that they fit.
Here is a pastebin
with a simplified report that exhibits the issue.
When I render the chart, this is what it looks like.
Whereas, I would expect something like this.

Hi clcrutch,
After testing the issue in my own environment, I can reproduce it. Just as you said, if there are two columns next to each other, then all the columns will be displayed on their own location; if all the columns in the chart exist space between each other, then
they will expand as wide as possible until there is no place to display all columns. This is by design.
Besides, if in the second scenario, we can manually add one record in the dataset, and then hide the additional record in the chart to work around this issue. For more details, please see:
Add one new record with adjacent date of MyDate field and unique value of MyStackedValue field in the dataset as below:
INSERT INTO #Temp (ID, MyDate, MyStackedValue)
VALUES (100, '11/24/2013', 1000)
Right-click the series to open the Series Properties dialog box, select Visibility in the left pane.
Using the expression below to control the series Visibility:
=iif(Fields!MyStackedValue.Value="1000",true,false)
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Performance... Why a function column in a view is executed more than once...?

    Why a function column created inside a view is executed more than once when called more than once?
    EXAMPLE:
    create or replace view aux1 as
    date_column,
    any_function(date_column) column1
    from any_table
    create or replace view aux2 as
    column1 c1,
    column1 c2,
    column1 c3
    from aux1
    select * from aux2
    It will execute 3 times the function any_function... logically the value will be the same for all columns...
    I understand why!... are 3 calls... but...
    Why not to create a "small" verification and if the function column was execute replace the second, the third... value? ... instead of execute 3, 4... times...
    tks
    Braga

    Actually, this is more than a performance issue. This is a consistency problem. If the function is NOT deterministic then you may get different values for each call which is clearly not consistent with selecting 3 copies of the same column from a row. Oracle appears to have fixed this in 9i...

  • Could the late 2008 MBP take more than 8GB of RAM?

    I just recently upgraded the RAM on my late 2008 15" MacBook Pro from 2GB to 8GB, and this sucker's running like a sports car!    So this has me wondering.  I have babied this thing, and it is plenty powerful for me but what happens 2-3 more years down the road?  I had read that the late 2008 models originally could only handle up to 6GB but do to a fimware update in April of 2010 that capacity was upped to 8GB.  Is there ever a chance that the RAM capacity could go up again?  If not, why?

    you're probably stuck at 8GB - i wish i can upgrade my late 08 Macbook to more than 8GB - tried it, but never worked - gave it to my niece instead.
    i don't really think you'd use more if you're just running normal apps.
    have a look at the image below - that's my macbook with 16GB and have 9 apps running - see how much I have free?
    by the time you need more than 8GB - you'll probably buy a new macbook by then - do remember, new macbooks are still selling with 4GB of RAM installed in them.
    good luck

  • SSRS 2008 R2 - Add moving average to column group

    I have a column group of dollar amounts.  The row is a year/month.  I would like to add a moving average column to the right of the last 6 months.  My SQL Server data source is already complex enough and I'd really prefer not to add a column
    there.  Is there anything I can do within the report itself?  Some way to reference the previous records in a matrix?
    Thank you!

    Hi mateoc15,
    According to your description, you have a matrix in your report. Now you want to calculate the average value of last 6 month. Right?
    In Reporting Service, we can put custom code into report to deal with complicated logic. Add one more column/row inside of group and call the functions defined in custom code. For your requirement we modified Robert’s code to achieve your goal. We tested
    your case in our local environment with sample data. Here are steps and screenshots for your reference:
    Put the custom code into report:
    Private queueLength As Integer = 6
    Private queueSum As Double = 0
    Private queueFull As Boolean = False
    Private idChange As String=""
    Dim queue As New System.Collections.Generic.Queue(Of Integer)
    Public Function CumulativeQueue(ByVal currentValue As Integer,id As String) As Object
    Dim removedValue As Double = 0
    If idChange <> id then
            ClearQueue()
                    idChange = id
                    queueSum = 0
                    queueFull = False
                    CumulativeQueue(currentValue,id)
    Else
                    If queue.Count >= queueLength Then
                                    removedValue = queue.Dequeue()
                    End If
                    queueSum += currentValue
                    queueSum -= removedValue
                    queue.Enqueue(currentValue)
                    If queue.Count < queueLength Then
                    Return Nothing
                    ElseIf queue.Count = queueLength And queueFull = False Then
                    queueFull = True
                    Return queueSum / queueLength
                    Else
                    Return (queueSum) / queueLength
                    End If
    End If
    End Function
    public function ClearQueue()
    Dim i as Integer
    Dim n as Integer = Queue.Count-1
    for i=n To 0 Step-1
                    queue.Dequeue()
    next i
    End function
    Add one more row inside of group, call the function defined in custom code.
    Save and preview. It looks like below:

  • I need to graph data and stack the plots to create 3 graphs, how do I plot more than 1 data line on each graph

    I currently use a code heavy solution thats clunky and need to refine the graphing part. For simplicity I want to use the waveform chart and its "Stack Plots" option. However I cannot see how to collect 2 or 3 data streams and display them on 1 of the stacked plots.
    The final verson will have 3 stacked plots, the top plots needs 3 data streams, The middle & bottom plots require 2 data streams.
    Help Appreciated

    Hi,
    Sometimes the Synchronous Display option makes a difference (right
    mouse>advanced>Synchronous Display). Or while running, right click>Smooth
    Updates. Fiddle around with them, sometimes unexpected settings has the best
    performance (only four combinations anyway).

  • 2008 macbook won't take more than 3gb ram

    So I bought some ddr2 ram for my MacBook and when I installed it the computer black screened with no chime. So I tested each stick with the same result I even reset the SMC memory to see if that fixed it and nothing. However when I installed just one of the 2GB sticks with one of the 1GB sticks it already had, the computer boot fine and when I checked the system profiler it noticed the ram perfectly fine.

    Some models of MacBook required a firmware update; and of those
    (unknown percentage of models or their specifics) some could only
    see a greater upgrade in RAM or to use a later OS X, once done.
    Perhaps the RAM you are trying to use is not correct spec to the Mac.
    Or maybe one of the chips has an issue whereby it doesn't connect,
    so a clean pencil eraser could be carefully used to wipe fingerprints or
    dust off the connectors. And never handle RAM by those contacts.
    Several early MacBooks had a ceiling of 3GB, though two 2-GB
    chips could be installed if that is what you happen to get; but that
    did not necessarily equate to a noticeable improvement in function.
    However the Early 2008 MacBook 13-inch model is said to support
    up to 6GB RAM: one 2-GB chip & one 4-GB chip; of correct spec.
    Both the Early 2008 and Late 2008 (white/black) models can use:
    Maximum Memory    6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
    according to http://mactracker.ca specification database
    Also, if the MacBook is of the Aluminum unibody version, that uses
    a different specification of RAM, and also has higher ceiling total...
    {If the RAM is from some 'poor quality' source, there is a fair chance
    it is not good or stable in the Mac. There is a noticeable difference.}
    So that may be the problem... hard to say without more information.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • More than one column retrieved in "report and form" page

    HELLO!
    let's see if anybody can help me with this... i'm sure it's a stupid problem but i really don't know how to solve it.
    when i create a new application with APEX, i want to add a "report and form" page. i select the table where de data is, and then click on add page. then i go to the page definition for the form that just has been created but there's no option for selecting more than one column as the link column...
    i mean, i want to show a report with all the columns from the table and then, by selecting one of them, the form should display that column but the problem is that the primary key of the table is formed by 6 columns and i always receive the "more than one column retrieved" message as it's trying to retrieve the information using only one column. is there any way to make the link column be composed by 6 or 7 columns??

    APEX can handle 2 primary key for one table (if you are using the automated fetch row and the automated process row).
    In your case, you'll have to create your own "fetch process (page rendering)" and "DML process (page processing)".

  • How to calculate difference and percentage in matrix report dynamic columns in SSRS 2008

    Hi Friends,
    I need to calculate Difference and Percentage In matrix report SSRS 2008
    1) Row grouping based On Product
    2) Column Grouping Week and Fiscal Year Current week  and Previous Year same Weeks
    3)Data Invnetory(Value fileld)
    Example:
    If value1 and Value2 Available we need to calculate Percentage and Difference.Otherwise Not required NA I need to Show.
    For example If Particular week,Current year data is available,Previous year  week data is not available No
    need to cal Diff and Percentage we need to show Empty.
    Below Code is working for If two values is available.
    If any one of the fiscal year week data is not there it's taking some garbage values.
    I tries with If condition in GetPCT() and GetDiff() It's not working.
    Can some one please help me on this.
    I am using the custom code
    Public Shared Value1 as String
    Public Shared Value2 as String
    Public Shared previous as string
    Public Shared previousweek as string
    Public Shared Function GetValue(Value as String,partner as String,Week as String) as String
    If partner =previous and Week =previousweek Then
    Value2=Value
    Else
    previous=partner
    previousweek=Week
    Value1=Value
    End If
    return Value
    End Function
    Public Shared Function GetDiff()
    return Value2-Value1
    End Function
    Public Shared Function GetPct()
    return (Value2-Value1)/Value1
    End Function
    How to handle this.
    Thank You, Manasa.V

    Hi veerapaneni,
    According to your description, if one of the fiscal year week doesn’t have data, the custom code returns false results.
    For your requirement, if NULL value exists in the database, we should replace it as zero then perform calculate. So within the code, we should judge whether the value is NULL. To achieve your goal, please refer to the steps below:
    1. Create a table like below.
    create table dif4
    ([Product Group] varchar(50),
    [Week] varchar(50),
    [Fiscalyearweek] varchar(50),
    value int
    insert into dif4 values
    ('Desktops','W01','FY14W01',0),
    ('Desktops','W01','FY15W01',45),
    ('Desktops','W02','FY14W02',null),
    ('Desktops','W02','FY15W02',30),
    ('Desktops','W03','FY14W03',12),
    ('Desktops','W03','FY15W03',50),
    ('Notebooks','W01','FY14W01',35),
    ('Notebooks','W01','FY15W01',56),
    ('Notebooks','W02','FY14W02',45),
    ('Notebooks','W02','FY15W02',87),
    ('Notebooks','W03','FY14W03',75),
    ('Notebooks','W03','FY15W03',105),
    ('Tablets','W01','FY14W01',34),
    ('Tablets','W01','FY15W01',46),
    ('Tablets','W02','FY14W02',49),
    ('Tablets','W02','FY15W02',96),
    ('Tablets','W03','FY14W03',42),
    ('Tablets','W03','FY15W03',113)
    2. Add the custom code in the Report Properties.
    Public Shared Value1 as Integer
    Public Shared Value2 as Integer
    Public Shared previous as string
    Public Shared previousweek as string
    Public Shared Function GetValue(Value as Integer,product as String,Week as String) as Integer
    If Value=Nothing Then
    Value=0
    End If
    If product =previous and Week =previousweek Then
    Value2=Value
    Else
    previous=product
    previousweek=Week
    Value1=Value
    End If
    return Value
    End Function
    Public Shared Function GetPct()
    If Value1=0 Then
    return 0
    Else
    return (Value2-Value1)/Value1
    End If
    End Function
    Public Shared Function GetDiff()
    return Value2-Value1
    End Function
    3. Design the matrix like below.
    4. Then get the expected results.<o:p></o:p>

  • SSRS 2008 R2 - Column Headers of a tablix visible while scrolling - Then the column headers not visible on 2nd page onwards for PDF EXPORT. it's vice versa. Hence it is possible to provide both at same time ?

    Hi,
    I am using SSRS 2008 R2.
    I have two TABLIX in a report.  One is TABLIX with row/clumn grouping. 2nd one is flat view.
    Here each tablix is dispaly it's data on single page for each.
    My Requirement on First TABLIX is:
         1. I have to make column headers visible on scrolling down
         2. Export to PDF - column headers must be visible on all the pdf pages  for same tablix data.
    But ... either one is achieved at my end.
    so ... any suggestions please to achieve both at same time.
    thank you in advance.
    best regards,
    venkat.

    Hi G.V.Naidu,
    According to your description, the first tablix is matrix to use display data.
    In SSRS, if we want to fix matrix header visible while scrolling and repeat header columns on each page, we can select the corresponding option to enable this function. Please refer to the steps below:
    1. Right click tablix, and select Tablix Properties.
    2. Select “Keep header visible while scrolling” and “Repeat header rows on each page” to enable these function.
    If we are use table to display data, please refer to the article about Repeat Header / Keep Header Visible in Tables.

  • How to Update the oracle toad column value in table by using SSRS 2008

    How to update the oracle DB table column value by using SSRS 2008.
    Can any one help me on this.

    Thank You, Manasa.V

    Hi veerapaneni,
    According to your description, you want to use SSRS to update data in database table. Right?
    Though Reporting Services is mostly used for rendering data, your requirement is still can be achieved technically. You need to create a really complicated stored procedure. Pass insert/delete/update and the columns we need to insert/delete/update as
    parameters into the stored procedure. When we click "View Report", the stored procedure will execute so that we can execute insert/delete/update inside of the stored procedure. Please take a reference to two related articles below:

  • SSRS 2008 Header height issues due to merged columns

    When working on a report today we ran into an issue which took us quite some testing to figure out. At some point we decided to switch some of the headers of columns around and when rendering the report again it for some reason created a header which was
    way heigher then the biggest text there, showing a huge empty space in the header underneath the text.
    My first guess was that there had to be some extra spaces in some column or something alike, which made the cells grow so much. This however was not the case. As a next step I cleared the cells in the headerrow one by one to figure out which field was making
    the header grow this much. It turned out to be the header in the 10th column. When I replaced the text in this cell, it did not make the header grow anymore. When I put the original text back, it started growing again. As a next step I removed the text in
    this cell, pasted it in another cell (column 11) and rendered the report, with the same huge header again. Out of frustration I tried a desperate last move, copied it to column 1 and rendered the report, the effect was a small header without some weird height.
    So the conclusion was that this text was making the header grow hugely in the columns 10 and 11, but not in column 1? What is the difference between column 10/11 and column 1?
    Then I noticed that column 7, 8 and 9 were pretty small columns, only holding integer values. The header above this, however, was one word, so the 3 cells in the header for these columns were MERGED. So basicly, only looking at the cells in the header, my
    huge text was in the 8th cell from the left, not the 10th (10th column, but due to merging the 8th cell). As a test I editted the width of the 8th column (the middle one of the merged cells) to be as wide as all the other columns holding text. The rendering
    of the report, with the huge text in the original headercolumn, now did not grow my header to be extremely big. This combined with the way "hiding" works in SSRS 2008 oppose to SSRS 2005 (ie, in 2008 a hidden cell disappears completly, moving all next cells
    up to the left, where as in 2005 a hidden cell just shows as empty in the report), leads me to believe that there is a bug in SSRS 2008 considering cell widths and merged cells? It is like the 10th column header now thinks it is part of the 8th column (being
    the 8th cell in its row due to merging) and therefor works with the width of this 8th column to judge how much increased height it needs. In fact it is the width of the 10th column and therefor doesnt need the height it creates, resulting in a huge empty space
    underneath the text.
    Is this a known issue by Microsoft? Any ETA on this for a fix?

    This combined with the way "hiding" works in SSRS 2008 oppose to SSRS 2005 (ie, in 2008 a hidden cell disappears completly, moving all next cells up to the left, where as in 2005 a hidden cell just shows as empty in the report), leads me to believe that

    Hi Joel_i,
    I was a little confused with the paragraph above. Could you please elaborate it?
    Based on the information posted, I tried to reproduce the scenario, but it works fine. During my test, the header cells grow
    only when the text in the head column is too long which will caused newline, or there is some extra space in some columns. So, you might need to check the properties of the 8th column cell, such asSpaceAfer,
    SpaceBefore, to make sure all properties are set rightly.
    To provide you further assistance, could you please post the report and dataset with sample data to our data collection E-mail
    address?

  • SSRS 2008 Column Chart with Calculated Series (moving average) "formula error - there are not enough data points for the period" error

    I have a simple column chart grouping on 1 value on the category axis.  For simplicity's sake, we are plotting $ amounts grouping by Month on the category axis.  I right click on the data series and choose "Add calculated series...".  I choose moving average.  I want to move the average over at least 2 periods.
    When I run the report, I get the error "Formula error - there are not enough data points for the period".  The way the report is, I never have a guaranteed number of categories (there could be one or there could be 5).  When there is 2 or more, the chart renders fine, however, when there is only 1 value, instead of suppressing the moving average line, I get that error and the chart shows nothing.
    I don't think this is entirely acceptable for our end users.  At a minimum, I would think the moving average line would be suppressed instead of hiding the entire chart.  Does anyone know of any workarounds or do I have to enter another ms. connect bug/design consideration.
    Thank you,
    Dan

    I was having the same error while trying to plot a moving average across 7 days. The work around I found was rather simple.
    If you right click your report in the solution explorer and select "View Code" it will give you the underlying XML of the report. Find the entry for the value of your calculated series and enter a formula to dynamically create your periods.
    <ChartFormulaParameter Name="Period">
                      <Value>=IIf(Count(Fields!Calls.Value) >= 7 ,7, (Count(Fields!Calls.Value)))</Value>
    </ChartFormulaParameter>
    What I'm doing here is getting the row count of records returned in the chart. If the returned rows are greater than or equal to 7 (The amount of days I want the average) it will set the points to 7. If not, it will set the number to the amount of returned rows. So far this has worked great. I'm probably going to add more code to handle no records returned although in my case that shouldn't happen but, you never know.
    A side note:
    If you open the calculated series properties in the designer, you will notice the number of periods is set to "0". If you change this it will overwrite your custom formula in the XML.

  • LookUpSet is Not working for multiple columns in SSRS 2008 R2

    Hi Friends,
    I have a problem when i use more than one LookUpSet in SSRS to display more than one value based on Day Number & other fields..Please find the below details and please suggest me a solution for this.
    Crystal :
                    Day1                              Day2
    Period 4     Arts,Maths               Arts,Maths
    For this in SSRS i am using LookUpSet as below based on StaffID,PeriodNumber & DayNumber like  this:
    = (IIF(Fields!DayNumber.Value=1,Join(LookupSet(Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value &  Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value & Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!ClassCode.Value
        , "TIMSTF5"), "," ),""))
    which is displaying correct in SSRS,But when i use the same expression to display Day 2 classes it is returning empty even though i have values on Day 2.Please have a look at the SSRS output below:
                    Day1                              Day2
    Period 4     Arts,Maths
    Day 2 Expression is :
    = (IIF(Fields!DayNumber.Value=2,Join(LookupSet(Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value &  Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value & Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!ClassCode.Value
        , "TIMSTF5"), "," ),""))
    I am not sure why it is not liking to use more than LookUpSet in the same report,Please suggest me with a work around for this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sam.

    Hi Guys,
    I have sorted out the problem.Solution for the above problem is use Max before the expression like below, since it has multiple days and periods in the Dataset.
    = Max((IIF(Fields!DayNumber.Value=2,Join(LookupSet(Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value &  ields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value & Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!ClassCode.Value
        , "TIMSTF5"), ","  + vbcrlf),"")))
    Thanks,
    Sam
