Ssrs 2008 r2 pass paramter value to a sort

In a new SSRS 2008 r2 report, I am going to be using sql within a dataset and not a stored
procedure since will I need to pass multiple values to each parameter.
One of the parameters that I will be working with is allowing the user to be able to pick what items
they want to sort on. The sort will have 3 items that will be always be sorted on first which are:
year, and school_number.  The users will be able to pick additional items to sort on like grade, and teacher.
The following is the sql that I have so far:
select year,  school_number, grade,teacher,room,course_number, course_name
from dbo.school
order by  year,  school_number, several parameter values.
Thus I am wondering if you would modify the sql above so that I can allow the user to sort on the additional parameters in any order like grade,teacher,room,course_number, course_name?
If any part of my request is not possible, I am wondering if you would show me what is possible in the sql?

Hi jazz_dog,
According to your description, you want to sort the report by grade,teacher,room,course_number or course_name based on a parameter selection. If in this case, we can add an expression in sorting to achieve your requirement:
Add a parameter named Sort with the available values below to the report:
Label: grade                                       Value: grade
Label: teacher                                     Value: teacher
Label: room                                        Value: room
Label: course_number                         Value: course_number
Label: course_name                            Value: course_name
Add a the expression below to the tablix Sorting:
=switch(Parameters!Sort.Value="grade",Fields!grade.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value="teacher",Fields!teacher.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value="room",Fields!room.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value=" course_number",Fields!course_number.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value="course_name",Fields!course_name.Value)
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 pass mutiple values to stored procedure that is being called

In an SSRS 2008 r2 report, I am currently calling a stored procedure called spRoom. I obtain the results of the stored procedure by creating a  temptable called #roomReults
The temp table that I am creating and using to obtain results looks like the following:
    CREATE TABLE #roomResults(
                     studentID VARCHAR(15),
       endYear SMALLINT,
                     calendarID INT)
    INSERT  #roomResults
           EXEC [dbo].[spRoom] @endYear, @calendarID
Currently I am only passing in one value for both paramters called: @endYear and @calendarID. However now I want to pass
in several values to each parameter.
I want to change the sql to look like the following:
     EXEC [dbo].[spRoom] IN (@endYear), In (@calendarID)
The above gives me syntax errors.
Thus I am wondering if you can show me how to change the sql listed above so that that I can pass in more than one value from the SSRS report parameters called @endYear and  @calendarID to the stored procedure called [spRoom]?

    Wendy
What version  are you using? Since SQL Server 2008 we  can use table valued parameter
Create a user-defined data type with a single column.
Develop a procedure with a table variable as an input parameter.
Declare a table variable of the type of the user defined data type.
Loading 10 records into the table variable and pass the table
    variable to the stored procedure.
    create type tt_example AS TABLE
     (spid int)
    go
    create procedure usp_example
     @spids tt_example READONLY
    AS
     SELECT *
     FROM @spids
    GO
    declare @spids tt_example
    insert into @spids
    select top 10 spid
    from sys.sysprocesses
    exec usp_example @spids=@spids

    Hi all,
I have two matrix with subtotal for two grouping. I need to pass the value of this two group subtotal into another matrix table to display and perform simple calculation to get the differences.
How can I pass the subtotal amount into the other matrix?
In Crystal report I can define two variable where i can set the total to the value and call the two variable anywhere in the same report. But how can I do it in SSRS?
    Appreciate can help
    Thank you

Yes, basically both are same grouping, i just want to capture the subtotal for comparision with scenario 2.
I can do it in SQL, but if possible, I hope to do it in report. Thank you

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 using parameter values

In an existing ssrs 2008 r2 report, I have a requirement from a user where they want to add 2 more parameters to the report. Right now there is an option where the user can choice to generate report1, report2, report3, report4, report5, report6, report7,
report8, and/or any combination of the reports I just listed.
This is setup by using an expression in the visibility property for each of the 8 tablixes.
For your information, the following is an example of how to display one of the reports or not:
    =iif(InStr(join(Parameters!report.Value,","),6)>0,false,true)
Now the user wants to be able to add the parameters of customer and inventory_item based upon if report7 and/or or report8 is selected.
Now can you tell me the following:
    1. Would you show me the code I can use in the dataset to select report7 and/or report8?
     2. If the above is not possible to select specific reports, then would the dataset query need to look something like: where @report is null or where @report is not null? What would you suggest?

    Hi midnight_car,
According to your description, you have specified visibility for each tablix in a report with IIF() function. When you select 7 or 8, you want to add an additional parameter to filter displayed tablixes, right?
In Reporting Services, since we can’t specify the visibility of a parameter as an expression, we could add a cascading parameter. When the first value is 7 or 8, then selected values from the cascading parameter can filter the displayed tablixes. Please
    refer to steps below:
    1. Sample data.
    2. Create a new dataset with the query below:
select distinct SalesTerritoryRegion as region from dbo.DimSalesTerritory
    where SalesTerritoryRegion=
    case when 3 in (@report)or 4 in (@report)
    then SalesTerritoryRegion
    else 'NA' end
    3. Specify the parameter @region using the new dataset.
    4. Query in main dataset like below:
select SalesTerritoryRegion as region,SalesTerritoryCountry as country,SalesTerritoryGroup as [group] from dbo.DimSalesTerritory
    where SalesTerritoryRegion= case when 3 in (@report) or 4 in (@report)
    then @region
    else
    SalesTerritoryRegion end
    4. Preview the report.

  • SSRS How to pass a value for Hidden parameter ?

    Hello,
I have a SSRS report deployed on the Report server. This report is having an "Hidden" parameter.
Could someone please guide me, how to pass the value to this internal parameter in each of the following case -
    1. Report is accessed through a Desktop application/Web application in Report Viewer.
    2. Report is accessed through the Url.
    3. Report is accessed through the Report Manager.
Any quick help on this is highly appreciated.

    Hi Vinay Pugalia,
Internal Parameters in SSRS are parameters that are not configurable by the end-user at run-time and values cannot be passed to this type of parameter (when present in the child report) in case of a drill-through report implementation. This
type of parameter is read-only and not accessible in parent report.
This varies from a Hidden Parameter, which the user is not prompted to provide, but can still be configured through the URL to the report server.
So no matter you access the report through report manager, URL or Report Viewer. The passing value to the internal parameter will not work.
As you have mentioned that I will also suggest you use the hidden parameter instead.
More details information in this blog for your reference:

  • Ssrs 2008 want parameter default values to display

In an ssrs 2008 report, I want to add a parameter called Processed and have default values set so the
user does not have to select the parameters. The problem is the default parameters are not preselected
    when the report is executed.
The following is the query for the dataset that is used for the parameter called Processed. This
    is used under available values.
    select DISTINCT IsNull(Processed,'') as Processed,
    CASE IsNull(Processed,'')
      WHEN 0 then 'Non Processed'
      WHEN 1 then 'Processed'
      END AS label
    FROM [Items]
    where Processed in (0,1)
    order by label
The default values are set to 0 and 1.
The column called Processed as defined as 'bit'.
Thus can you tell me what you think could be wrong? Do I need to specify the bit values as
something else? If so, how should I refer to the values for bit?

    Hi wendy,
According to your description, this issue can be caused by the values returned by the query. We can try to execute the query in Query Designer to check which values will be returned. Maybe it only returns one value (0 or 1). Then the available values for
the Processed parameter have only one value. So the default values will not be preselected when the report is initially run.
Besides, we can also try to use the same query as the default values for the parameter to check the issue again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Passing Paramter Values to a Discoverer Worksheet

Hi. I've set up a link from a measure in my OLAP workbook. It attempts to pass values from the OLAP workbook to parameters in the Discoverer workbook. This seems to work fine if I pass the dimension label (i.e. the descriptive name of the member). If I try and pass the value however, it always seems to prefix the "code" with the level name. I have NOT used the surrogate key option when generating the cube in AWM2 - I have used the natural key option as all of my codes are unique across all levels. I simply want to pass back the code. E.g. my dimension is time and the level is Quarter. The member on display is Quarter 3, with an underlying code of Q3. When I pass back the dimension value, it passes back Quarter_Q3 and not Q3. Can anybody help? Thanks.

    Hi,
This looks like a possible bug. I presume you are using the 10.1.0.4 patchset or the 9.2.0.6? If not I would recommend applying that patch ASAP
I tried this on my installation and the parameter values were passed through correctly, with no '_' characters inserted before the value.
Otherwise, this might be an issue with Discoverer. I would recommend creating a TAR with Oracle Support via Metalink to resolve this issue.
    Hope this helps,

  • SSRS 2008 - create the interval values in y-axis dynamically

    Hi All -
I have a report which has number values in y-axis and date in x-axis. This is a clustered column chart, the problem is for a particular date if one of my value is very huge say (in Thousands, Ex: 10000) and another is small (Ex: 120). In this case my small
    value bar is hardly visible.
Hence in this case, I was looking around for an option like below, the y-axis interval needs to change dynamically based on value (i.e) until a threshold value the interval should be fixed say incremented by 120, once it reaches a threshold (Ex: 360) it
should be auto (i.e) if the max value for that date is 3800 after 360 the interval needs to be in thousands or more based on the need.
So based on the above explanation i would want the values like below for my y-axis -> 120, 240, 360, 2000, 4000.
Please let me know in if this is possible

    Hi smurug,
Based on my understanding, you are creating a 3-D Clustered column. And you want to make the Y-axis values distribute uniformly, right?
In Reporting Services, there is a scale break feature which can display two distinct ranges in the same chart area, then to make Y-axis values distribute uniformly. However, this feature is not supported in 3-D Clustered columns.
For more information, please refer to this article:
Displaying a Series with Multiple Data Ranges on a Chart (Report Builder and SSRS).
In your scenario, if you want to make Y-axis values distribute uniformly, you can add a secondary vertical axis to display those too larger values. Please refer to steps below:
    1. Go to Series Properties, enable secondary vertical axis, then design the report like below:
    2. Preview the report.

  • SSRS 2008 optional parameter ? Value still required if I check allow null

I know there are other posts about this and Ive read them, but I still dont see how to allow the user to skip making a selection for that particular parameter.  I have two parameters on a report.  One of them Id like the user to be able to simply
not choose anything if they want to, and have that default to NULL.  Im handling that in the query for the dataset.
Ive seen the suggestions to include some "ALL" selection in the list by way of a union
Does a user HAVE to make a selection of a dropdown list?

If you have specified a Default Value for parameter then user need not select any value. User can directly click on View Report.

  • Pass values between ssrs 2008 r2 reports

In a  ssrs 2008 R2 report, I need to pass parameters to existing subreports that are currently called.  Basically there is a main sssrs 2008 r2 report and there are 3 subreports. I would like subreports #1, subreport #2, and subreport #3 to receive
the value values of customer number and customer name. I am hoping you can tell me and/or show me code that would tell me how to add parameters parameter values that are used to call these subreports.

    Hi wendy,
According to your description, it seems that you want to pass parameter values from main report to subreport1, from subreport1 to subreport2, and from subreport2 to subreport3. If in this scenario, you can refer to the following steps about the sample test
(from main report to subreport1) in my environment:
Create a parameter named ID in the main report, adjust the report body and tablix with the same size.
In the subreport1 report, right-click one cell to insert a subreport.
Right-click the subpeort to open the Subreport Properties, and select the main report name in the drop-down list.
In the left panel of the Subreport Properties dialog box, click Parameters.
Select ID in the drop-down list of Name, and select [ID] in the drop-down list of Value.
Considering your question, because I have create a parameter in the main report and specify the parameter in the subreport1, the main report will be passed by the parameter to subreport1.

  • Issues passing drillthrough parameters from a multi-level tablix in SSRS 2008 R2

    Hello,
I am really struggling with trying creating a drillthrough report that starts with a matrix (tablix)  and passing those  parameters. I am using SSRS 2008 R2.
    Here's my scenario:
I have a matrix that has mulitple levels where you can drill down. Here an example with all the levels open:
    Active
    Term
    Leave
    Total
    128
    88
    121
    United States
    110
    80
    85
    New York
    65
    30
    57
    Manhattan

    9
    Buffalo
    20
    23
    4
    Albany
    35

    Druex
    6
    1
    15
    Tours
    5
    5
    13
I want to drillthrough to another report - Detail Report. As I understand it, I would click the 65 for New York and I would see the detail for the 65 Active people. If I click the 2 under Blois, I would see the 2 terminated people in Blois. My understanding
for this to work, the Detail Report would need a a parameter for each of the level possibilities in the matrix that I could click: Country, State, City as well as the Status (Active, Term, Leave).
While I understand about passing parameters, what I don't understand is how to pass the parameters if they are blank. Let's say I clicked 65 for New York, I would need to pass State = New York  Status = Active. But the remaining parameters (Country
and City  would be null). I know Country doesn't need to be Null in this case.
My Detail Report has the parameters defaulted to Null, but whether I put the parameters in a Filter for the dataset or in the query itself, I cannot get it to ignore the Nulls.
As a crazy work-around (I think) I can put in the Where of the query  something along the lines of: this:
            and (a.Country in (@paramCountryCode) or NULL  in (@paramCountryCode) )
and I would need to do that for each parameter. Usually I have to use 'ALL' instead of NULL, I'm note sure why.
Additionally, in the Report Action of the Main Report, I need to pass those parameters for each level and their Status. I am also not clear whether or not I need to put in all the parameters on each of the levels (Country, State, City) of the matrix. And if
I do, do I need to make the expressions an IIF statement stating whether or not they are In Scope?
All the examples I was able to find, only showed one or maybe two parameters being passed. Doing the way I am trying, seems convoluted, error-prone and tedious. I really hope that I am wrong.
Is there a better way to approach drilltrough reports from a matrix when there are multiple levels?
    Thank you for the help.
    ~J

    Hi Jenna_Fire,
According to your description, you have a matrix contains total for each group on each level. Now your requirement is, when you click on any number (data field or total), it will go to the detail report which returns all the detail information of the people
within the group scope. For example, if you click on the total of Active users in United States, it will return the detail information of Active users in New York and Texas. Right?
In this scenario, we should set the parameter (@Country, @State, @City) allow multiple values in both main and detail report. And in Default Value (@Country, @State, @City), query out all distinct values. In the textbox which contains
those total values, when set use these parameters to run the report, we only need to pass the parameters of parent groups. For example, if we click on the total of Active users in New York, we only need to pass Country, State, Status to detail report, and
in the detail report, the City parameter will use all distinct values (Default Values) because we don't pass the City parameter. We have tested this case with sample data in our local environment. Here are steps and screenshots for your reference:
    1. Create parameter Country, State, City and Status in both main report and detail report. Set both Available Value and Default Value get values from query (Create a dataset for each parameter, use "select distinct [column] from [table]" as query). Set allow
multiple values for parameter Country, State and City in both reports.
    2. In corresponding textbox, pass appropriate parameters in go to report Action.
    4. Filter data in detail report (in where clause or using filters).
    5. Save and preview. It looks like below:

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 parameter values

In a new ssrs 2008 r2 report, I need to display 2 of the parameter values in the heading of the report. One of the parameter values in the name and customer number. The second heading value is the city and state where the particular customer is located at.
The customer table has the following values:
    a. cust_id int primary-id,
    b. customer_name varchar(50),
    c. cust_address1 varchar (50),
    d. cust_address2 varchar (50),
    e. cust_city_state varchar(40),
    f. cust_zip_providence varchar(30),
    g. cust_country varchar(30).
Thus I need to place the  paramter values of customer_name and cust_city_state that are obtained from a dropdown list in the heading.
when I try =first(customer_name) in the heading, the value is only good for the first customer name. After that, the wrong parameter value is displayed.
Thus can you tell me and/or show me code of what I can do to place the parameter values
of customer_name and cust_city_state in the heading of the report?

    Follow below steps,
    1. Create 3 Data set.
     DS1 = select * from customertable
     DS2 = select distinct customer_name from customertable
     DS3 = select distinct cust_id from customertable
    2. Add two parameter, customer name and customer number
     --------parameter 1
     - supply Name property for 1st parameter
     - datatype for the parameter is string
     - Available value property, Select dataset DS2, Select Field Value as "Customer_Name"
     --------parameter 2
     - supply Name property for 2st parameter
     - datatype for the parameter is string
     - Available value property, Select dataset DS3, Select Field Value as "Cust_id"
    3. Add a blank tablix/table.
-- Select TableRow2 and right click to add new group i.e insert group.
-- Group properties window will be openned,
-- Select Group On Expression 1st.
-- Select the parameter(Parameter1/customer name) by double clicking in the expression window
-- Select Group On another Expression 2nd.
-- Select the parameter(Parameter2/Cust Id) by double clicking in the expression window
-- Now in the general tab you need to checked "Repeat Group Header"
-- press ok to close the group properties window.
    4. Now from DS1 drag the field City and State in TableRow3 columns.
    5. Drag the Customer Name and Customer Id/Number in TableRow1.
    6. In case if First(Fields!CustomerName) appears then remove First function as simply "Fields!CustomerName". Similarly for Customer Number.
    7. Finally we need to set the filter condition of the table property. Open the table property by right clicking. On the "Filter" tab choose the expression as "Fields" items and double click "CustomerName" to add in the expression. Similarly add second
field "CustomerNumber" in the expression. Check the operator "=" and choose the value as "Parameter" items respectively.

How to update the oracle DB table column value by using SSRS 2008.
Can any one help me on this.

    Hi veerapaneni,
According to your description, you want to use SSRS to update data in database table. Right?
Though Reporting Services is mostly used for rendering data, your requirement is still can be achieved technically. You need to create a really complicated stored procedure. Pass insert/delete/update and the columns we need to insert/delete/update as
parameters into the stored procedure. When we click "View Report", the stored procedure will execute so that we can execute insert/delete/update inside of the stored procedure. Please take a reference to two related articles below:

  • SSAS report action to pass multi-value list of dimention key values to a SSRS report parameter

This was originally posted on StackOverflow and suggested I try here as well.
I want to create a report action in an SSAS OLAP cube that generates a list of formatted values to pass into an SSRS report parameter that accepts a multi-valued parameter list.  This would be applied at the
cell level in the SSAS action.  I have found a solution that gets me most of the way:
How to Pass Multiple Values from an SSAS Report Drill Through Action to an SSRS Multi-Value Parameter, but not quite.  The action does appear in Excel and works
if I run the action from a cell that is at or below the dimension attribute I am generating the list for, in this case,
    Account Key.
Below is a link to a screen capture (unable to embed it due to lack of reputation) showing the action and dimension structure in Excel.  The action works as long as I run it at the
Account Key level or below.  I want to be able to run it at higher levels, such as
Account Major and still have it generate all then related Account Key values for the SSRS report parameter.  Running it at the higher
Account Major level does not trigger the report to run.

Below is the MDX I am using to generate the value for the report parameter:
    UrlEscapeFragment(
    GENERATE(
    DESCENDANTS(
    [Account].[Account Key].CurrentMember,
    [Account].[Account Key].[Account Key]
    [Account].[Account Key].CURRENTMEMBER.Name,
    "&rp:Account="
I am hoping that I can somehow modify the MDX above to make it return all the
Account Keys for any attribute of the Account dimension when ran from any measure cell, not just when ran at self and children of
Account Key in the pivot table.
Also, if it helps, I can execute the following MDX query on the cube and get the results I am looking for.
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Account Key List] as
    GENERATE(
    DESCENDANTS([Account].[Account].CurrentMember, [Account].[Account].[Account]),
    [Account].[Account].CURRENTMEMBER.NAME,
    "&rp:Account=")
    SELECT {[Measures].[Account Key List]} on 0,
    ([Account].[Account Company Number].[Account Company Number],[Account].[Account Major].[Account Major]
    ) on 1
    FROM [Company 10 Action Demo]
    Below are partial results:
    10.116&rp:Account=10.116.010
    10.117&rp:Account=10.117.010&rp:Account=10.117.020
    10.120&rp:Account=10.120.005&rp:Account=10.120.006&rp:Account=10.120.010&rp:Account=10.120.020&rp:Account=10.120.030&rp:Account=10.120.040&rp:Account=10.120.050&rp:Account=10.120.060&rp:Account=10.120.380&rp:Account=10.120.999

    Questions
Any ideas what I might need to do to get Account Key to be returned for any attribute of the
    Account dimension?
Would I possibly have to alter my Account dimension in the cube to get this to work?
    Thanks in advance.
Edit 1 - Adventure Works Cube Version
I was unable to get the suggested answer with the "Exists" function to work.  To better demonstrate this issue, I have recreated it using the Adventure Works Cube.
I will focus on the Customer dimension, specifically the Customer and
Education attributes.  I created a report action called Test Report Action.  Below is the XML created for it in the cube.
    <Action xsi:type="ReportAction" dwd:design-time-name="f35ad5ee-5167-4fb8-a0e0-0a74cc6e81c6">
    <ID>Report Action 1</ID>
    <Name>Test Report Action</Name>
    <TargetType>Cells</TargetType>
    <Target></Target>
    <Type>Report</Type>
    <ReportServer>SQLSERVER</ReportServer>
    <Path>ReportServer?/Test Report</Path>
    <ReportParameters>
    <ReportParameter>
    <Name>Test Customer Existing</Name>
    <Value>UrlEscapeFragment(
    GENERATE(
    EXISTING DESCENDANTS(
    [Customer].[Customer].CurrentMember,
    [Customer].[Customer].[Customer]
    [Customer].[Customer].CURRENTMEMBER.Name,
    "&amp;rp:Customer="
    )</Value>
    </ReportParameter>
    </ReportParameters>
    <ReportFormatParameters>
    <ReportFormatParameter>
    <Name>rs:Command</Name>
    <Value>Render</Value>
    </ReportFormatParameter>
    <ReportFormatParameter>
    <Name>rs:Renderer</Name>
    <Value>HTML5</Value>
    </ReportFormatParameter>
    </ReportFormatParameters>
    </Action>
Below are the steps to re-create the issue.
Connect to the cube in Excel
Add dimension Customer -> More Fields -> Customer
Add measure Internet Sales -> Internet Sales Amount
Right-click Internet Sales Amount cell, select "Additional Actions" -> "Test Report Action" and see customer values created for URL
When the action is ran at this point with Customer, I see the values created in the URL shown message box (since there is no SSRS report server at location specified).
Now the part I'm unable to resolve
Remove the Customer dimension and add Customer -> Demographic -> Education
Right-click Internet Sales Amount cell, select "Additional Actions" -> "Test Report Action"
Nothing happens. If I ran the action on the cell next to "Bachelors", I would want it to build up all the list of all the "Customers"  that make up the "Bachelors" in the
Customer dimension as part of the report parameter.  If no attributes where used in the cube from the
Customer dimension for that cell, then I would like it to return "All Customers", or something similar to show that all customers are included in the aggregations.
I am not too MDX savvy, thus far.  I think I need to somehow join the
Customers to Internet Sales Amount in the Generate function portion.  I have tried several different combinations of the
Customer dimension and Internet Sales Amount, along with various functions to see if I could get this to work with no success.  I am hoping that someone more knowledgeable the me will have a solution.   If you need more details,
please ask and I will provide them.

    Simon,
Thanks for you help with this.  This morning I found a workaround.  Below describes what that is.
What I ended up doing was getting a list of values from a degenerate dimension that I could use to pass to SSRS to get a list of transactions for a report.  Below is how I did this, in relation to the Adventure Works cube using the degenerate dimension
    Internet Order Details.
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Order Param List] AS
    GENERATE(
    EXISTS([Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].[Sales Order Number].Members, ,
    "Internet Sales"),
[Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].CurrentMember.Name,
    "&rp:OrderNum=")
    SELECT {[Measures].[Order Param List], [Measures].[Internet Sales Amount]} ON 0
    ,([Date].[Calendar].[Date]) ON 1
    FROM [Adventure Works]
This will get a list of Sales Order Number in a text string, separated by "&rp:OrderNum=" for each measure of
Internet Sales. This would allow me to create an SSRS report to bring back detail information for each
Sales Order Number. Below are some sample results.
    May 16, 2007 SO50493&rp:OrderNum=SO50494&rp:OrderNum=SO50495&rp:OrderNum=SO50496&rp:OrderNum=SO50497&rp:OrderNum=SO50498&rp:OrderNum=SO50499&rp:OrderNum=SO50500 $12,157.80
    May 17, 2007 SO50501&rp:OrderNum=SO50502&rp:OrderNum=SO50503&rp:OrderNum=SO50504&rp:OrderNum=SO50505&rp:OrderNum=SO50506&rp:OrderNum=SO50507&rp:OrderNum=SO50508 $13,231.62
    May 18, 2007 SO50509&rp:OrderNum=SO50510 $4,624.91
With this, I can then create a Report Action in SSRS with a Parameter Value of
    UrlEscapeFragment(
    GENERATE(
    EXISTS([Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].[Sales Order Number].Members, ,
    "Internet Sales"),
[Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].CurrentMember.Name,
    "&rp:OrderNum=")
The way I was going about it before was flawed, as I was trying to get a list of the granular values from each dimension used to build the measure value and pass each one of those as separate parameters. I just needed to set something unique for each fact
measure transaction that represents the value and uses that in a query parameter for the SSRS report.

  • Ssrs 2008 r2, select more or more or none of the above values

In an an existing SSRS 2008 r2 report, I want to have a parameter called @hair where the user
can see if the customer purchased one of the following items:
     1. hair spray,
     2. hair shampoo,
     3. Hair color,
     4. hair conditioner, or
     5. No hair product purchased.
The table is called inventory and the values for the field called hairproduct are
     1. hair spray = 'HR',
     2. hair shampoo = 'HS',
     3. hair color = 'HC',
     4. Hair conditionier = 'HD',
     5. If hair product is not purchased hairproduct value is null. This is due to
the inventory table contains columns like hairproduct, eyeproduct, faceproduct. If a
particular product is purchased, the column will contain a value. If a customer purchases
all 4 hair products and 3 eyeproducts, and 9 faceproducts, the inventory table will contain
16 columns for a particualr customer.
In the parameter window, I can use the following to have the correct values be displayed in the
    selection window:
    SELECT DISTINCT IsNull(inventory.hairproduct,'') as hairid,
    CASE IsNull(inventory.hairproduct,'')
    WHEN 'HR' then 'hair spray'
    WHEN 'HS' then 'hair shampoo'
    WHEN 'HC' then 'Hair color'
    WHEN 'HC' then 'hair conditioner'
WHEN '' then 'No hair product purchased'
    FROM Inventory
**Note the @hairproduct parameter allows blank values and allows multiple values.
However in the main query for the ssrs 2008 r2 report, I am not certain how I would change the following statement to select 'No hair product purchased'.
The current select statement looks like the following:
    select customer_id,hairproduct
    from inventory where customer_id = @customerid
    hairproduct in (@hairproduct).
Basically I need to change the main query, dataset that matches the parameter @hairproduct, or possibly add a new parameter that means 'No hair product purchased' to report on the customer that has one or more hair products purchased or none.
Thus can you tell me and/or show me sql that will solve my problem?

    Hi there,
Can you modify the no hair product purchased to a special code?  Eg. NP.
Then something like this may work (though it may be a bit slow)
    select customer_id,hairproduct
    from inventory where customer_id = @customerid and
    (hairproduct
    in (@hairproduct)  and (patindex(@hairproduct,'%NP%') = 0)
    OR ( (patindex(@hairproduct,'%NP%')
    > 0)  and customerid not in (select customerid from inventory where
customer_id = @customerid where hairproduct is not null)
    cheers,
