SSRS, Reduce resolution of image?

I can find lots of posts about wanting to increase or improve the resolution of an image in SSRS. I am looking for the opposite: how to reduce the resolution in order to create a smaller Excel file size when users export to Excel.
Users run the report, export to Excel, and email the file to external users and customers. The report can sometimes have up to 100 images so the file size can be 15MB. The desire is to reduce the size of the Excel file. The users want to keep the image size
as is (3in x 3in) if possible so perhaps reducing the resolution will decrease the size? Of course, then they will complain about the image quality :-/
My report pulls the image from SQL. The images are taken with digital cameras and usually range from 1 to 2 MB each. The image properties are:
Size: 3in x 3in
Sizing: Fit
MIME type: png
Running SQL and SSRS 2008 (not R2).
Is there an SSRS option for this? Ideally it would be report specific, not a server wide setting. Maybe a SSRS code function or even SQL code to reduce the size as it comes from the database?
Thanks.

Hi Rdvb,
There is no an option to reduce the resolution of image in Reporting Services. Here has a MSDN article about Image Device Information Settings, please see:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155373(v=sql.100).aspx
If you have any concern about this behavior, you can submit a feedback at
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback and hope it is resolved in the next release of service pack or product. Your feedback enables Microsoft to make software and services the best that they can be, Microsoft might consider to add this feature
in the following release after official confirmation.
Thank you for your understanding.

  • Compressor reduces resolution of image sequence

    Hello,
I have an PNG sequence with a resoltion of 1920x1080.
When I add a single image to compressor, and doubleclick it, compressor shows the right resolution.
When I add the whole folder of the image series, compressor shows me the resolution 1440x810 and I can't change it. I just can change the fps. When I now render a video file in 1920x1080, it gets blurry.
    What can I do?
    Thank you!
    Greetings from Cologne, Germany.

    Hi Russ H,
thanks for your answer. Sorry, my compressor is in german, I hope it helps

  • Reduce resolution with Quartz/ColorSync custom filter

Must be missing something at this late hour, but it seems that a custom filter to reduce resolution can be configured in the Apple ColorSync Utility, but cannot be acknowleded in Apple Pages.
Open the Apple ColorSync Utility, change view to Filters, click Add, input a name e.g. Reduce Resolution, and press Return on the keyboard.
Open the Disclose triangle on the right, choose Add Image Effects Component, choose Image Compression, choose Mode, choose JPEG, and choose the reduction of resolution.
The filter will be available in Apple Preview when Save As > PDF is chosen, and will work there, but the filter will not be available in the comparable menus of Apple Pages 3 and Apple Pages 4.
(Adding a Domain component to the filter appears broken under 10.4, as before. Should see if this is also the situation in 10.5.)
    /hh

    Did you ever solve this?
    No, I never solved that.
This particular filter function will work in Apple Preview, though. At least if you have a file with one and only one object such as a TIFF or JPEG.
The decompression functionality should also work if you want to convert compressed JPEG into an uncompressed colour bitmap rather than compress JPEG that is already compressed.

  • Reducing resolution for web use

    dear all,
i'm just learning some basic 2d (i work mainly in 3d) and am in the middle of reducing/cropping some of my images so that they fit neatly on a web page. i have a couple of questions:
    1. when i reduce (resample) an image, in the resample dialogue there is no easy way to just reduce by a given multiplier (e.g. 0.5) and at the same time, see what the resulting size will be.
for example - i have an image that is 2592*1944 pixels. i would like to be able to enter a multiplier and see what the resulting resolution would be /before/ i commit to the new size. this is possible in a very old version of corel photopaint that i have and so my first question is can this be done in photoshop or do i have to resize elsewhere?
    2. should i only reduce by certain multipliers or is any value ok? i searched and read a few posts on this but didn't find anything conclusive for reductions.
e.g. i have an image 2592 * 1944 and need to reduce to 600*450. i want the resampled image to look as good as it can. should i reduce by the nearest available mult and then crop the rest or is it safe to just crop straight to the required resolution (assuming that the aspect ratio remains the same)?
    3. final question - if i use the crop tool and specify the resolution, i can scale the cropping area and whatever area i choose will be cropped to the required size. very good if the answer to question 2 is 'YES, you can reduce directly to required resolution'.
however, is it possible for the crop tool to work like this: i set my resolution for the crop tool. now i can see the cropping area on the image. the crop area is exactly the res that i specified and will crop the image without resampling?
    hope that makes sense.
    TIA

    how did i miss that?!
thanks guys - that helps a lot.
in general though, would you say it's ok to reduce by any fraction or should i stick to halves/quaters/tenths etc.
also, any way to set a crop resolution (say 400 x 300) and then choose which part of the image you want to keep WITHOUT resampling - the crop tool seems to fix the aspect ratio which is great but will then resample the chosen area.

  • Iphoto reducing resolution from a Canon Rebel T1I

We have a Canon Rebel T1I.  Iphoto after importing from the camera is not saving the full pixel resolution.  It saves it on the computer to a lower pixel/resolution.  I might as well be taking the pics on my phone.  Can this setting be changed?  Can I revert the ones already imported to the higher resolution?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you seeing the reduced resolution?
iPhoto is always importing from the camera at the full resolution. Either you have set the camera to a low resolution or you are looking at the previews or thumbnails of your photos.
You will see the full resolution original that iPhoto is storing, if you select the photo in iPhoto and use the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File".
But if you simply drag photos from iPhoto's window you will only export preview images in reduced quality.

  • Applescript to change image resolution using image events

Does anyone have an applescript to change image resolution using image events in OSX? I want to optimize my images for iWeb. I want to use a shell script in an applescript as a droplet or as a service in Automator. I'd like to leave the original intact.

For what type of use in iWeb are these photos intended? If it's for adding to a page (not a photo or album page) iWeb does a great job of optimizing. See my post in this topic: Re: Photo Resolution in iWeb.
You can optimize an entire site with an application like Web Site Maestro. It can reduce the site's size by up to 49%. Here's the settings available for the optimization:

  • How to set the resolution of images when saving Book as HTML

How can I set a different resolution for images converted to *.GIF when I save a book as HTML? Why doesn't the conversion to JPG work?

    Hi
I am running a stand-alone version of Framemaket 10.I try to convert a documentation with a lot of screenshots in it. Regardless of the settings on the Reference pages of the first document of the book, Framemaker converts all graphic files to *.gif, and these are downsized so much that they become illegible. I would like to have them converted to JPG, with little resolution loss, so they are still readable.
I think Robohelp is too expensive…

  • Can I reduce a Template image upload time to Azure RemoteApp ?

Can I reduce a Template image upload time to Azure RemoteApp ?
I want to reduce from 2 hours to 1 hour.
Today, Jan 14, 2015's upload time is over 2 hours.
    Environment
      Region : Japan West.
      Vhd size: 43 GB
      Upload Tool: Upload-AzureRemoteAppTemplateImage.ps1
    Result
Elapsed time for the operation= 00:32:38
Elapsed time ffor upload = 01:48:29
      Traffice rate = 58 Mbps
    Regards,
    Yoshihiro Kawabata

    Hi Yoshihiro,
    1. You can reduce the Hash calculation time by storing the vhd on faster hard drive(s) and using faster CPU.  For that size vhd you should be able to get it down to less than 10 minutes for the calculation time.
    2. You can reduce the upload time by using faster Internet connection that is as close as possible to Azure Japan West facility, with low latency and no packet loss.  Under excellent conditions (high bandwidth link, low latency, no loss) you should
be able to get several hundred Mbps throughput.

  • Setting Resolution in Image Ready

Is there a way to change the resolution in image ready when you use "save optimized"? I have an image in Photoshop that is 96 dpi and I want to keep that resolution, but it's automatically changing it to 72 dpi. I have CS2.
    Thank you in advance!

As the other posts suggest, just focus on width x height measured in pixels.
Image resolution is irrelevant for web images.

  • How to reduce size of image while uploading it in livecycle pdf.

    Hi,
I have created a pdf with Image field using live cycle designer.
I have selected "Sizing: Scale Image to fit Rectangle".
Now the problem is the pdf which i have created is 1.5MB and if i import or upload a 2.5MB image in image field then the size of pdf becomes 6MB.
I have around 20 image fields in my pdf report , so if people keep uploading high resolution images in the pdf then the pdf becomes more then 15MB, slow and unmanagable.
Is there any way by which even if I upload a 5MB image the it should automatically reduce image size?
As the users does not bother to reduce the size of image they just upload high resolution and large size image in pdf.
Please tell me the way through which i can reduce the image size automatically while uploading.

  • Changing resolution of images ?

I like to shoot my pics in the largest resolution because it gives me the best print quality.  However, when I email my images to family and friends I like to reduce them in size to normally 640 x 480 to make them easier to view especially on older slower computers.
I used to do this in Compupic but now that I have a 64 bit computer, CPIC no longer works.
Is there a way to do this in Photoshop Elements 8?
    If not, any other suggestions?
    Thank You.
    ALAN

    Yes,
Here are the steps I follow when I need low-res files for my Blog:
    1. Select all the files I want to get with low-res
    2. File>Export
    3. Select the Folder where you want to get those files
    4. Mention Resolution you want
    5. Click OK
It should help you getting low-res files with simple steps....
