Stabilizing synchronized clips

I have encountered a problem when I synchronized two 5D clips with an external audio clip and then tried to stabilize the videoclips. In the synchronized clip the stabilizer is not active, so I opened it in the timeline and applied the stabilizer to the two videoclips there. It did stabilize, but did NOT apply a zoom to make the stabilization invisible. Instead the video wobbles around the frame. Tweaking the scale zoom handle has no effect. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this? Thanx!!

In other words in a synchronized clip everything is fine, when syncronized with the song audio...but when I put this syncronized clip on the same audio clip on the timeline I find it longer than the song audio , when I go inside this syncronized clip again the length is the same ...why on timeline the clip becomes longer and audio lags and gets distorted like a base voice......
I wish there was synchronization feature on the timeline than the event......

  • Can you apply ranged keywords to synchronized clips?

    Howdy y'all,
I have two audio files representing separate sides of a conversation, recorded with two separate mics. (This lets me control their levels and such in post, individually.) It's trivial to turn these two clips into a single Syncronized clip, once I make whatever adjustments I wish to them indivudally. So far so good.
Now I'm at the point where I want to log the major sections of this conversation, marking ranges with keywords. But while I can select ranges on the synchronized clip with the range tool (or setting in / out points as I listen), I can't seem to assign keywords to any of these ranges. I can bring up the keyword editor and type stuff all right, but no keyword I thus create ever gets assigned to the syncronized clip. It seems that the most I can do is keyword only one or the other of the synchronized clip's constituent clips. I don't wanna do that; I want to log the whole, synthezied conversation, not just one mic's output.
I have also tried to do this by treating the separate tracks as a compound clip rather than a syncronized clip, and I encounter the same issue.
Am I missing something, or using the wrong FCPX idiom? Or can you simply not log at any level other than at the lowest level of original clips? (Which would make me sad and confused...)
Background: I am yet another person coming to FCPX after cutting my A/V teeth years ago on (in this case) FCP 5. And yes, I'm trying to use this to edit together an audio-only podcast. I got good enough at "classic" FCP idioms that I wouldn't think twice about doing it, despite the lack of a video element in the source, so it seemed natural to use FCPX for this project today. If I am flat-out using the wrong tool, please let me know. But I tried using GarageBand for this, and the lack of e.g. j/k/l made me instantly hate it...

Thanks; that does seem to do the trick.
I don't suppose there's a way to bring up a visualization of a clip's audio waveform in the viewer pane? (I refer to the middle pane in the top row.) I feel a bit crowded working with a lengthy audio track using only that tiny, scrunched view in the browser pane, and I seem to recall that you could change the view in classic FCP to display only the audio.
If I'm just doing coarse-level logging it isn't a huge deal, and I'm willing to concede that this is one thing I have to live with using a video editor on an audio-only project. But it'd be nice to have...

  • Problem synchronizing clips

    Hi,
I am trying to synchronize two video clips, one which has two different audio tracks (CH1 on board, CH2 tie clip) and a second camera with an on board mic).
So far FCPX does not synchronize these correctly. I have tried setting in points first. I have also tried adding a marker called 'Marker 1' to both clips at the same point (I got someone to clap at the beginning). Still, when I open the synchonized clip, they are not quite in sync.
Am I doing something wrong? I was hoping I could use this feature to edit multiple cameras and just cut them up on the timeline, and patiently wait for a proper multicam feature in the next release.

After experimenting, it seems that the synchronize feature takes time to work (i.e. once the synchronized clip appears, it might still take a long time to process and actually perform the sync!) so best to leave it for several hours if a long clip and come back to it later.
However, the sync I have found doesn't work every time, and it isn't always spot on.
I think it is going to be a case of waiting for the multicam feature, where hopefully we will be able to set in points manually. I always clap or flash the cameras at the start of a multicam shoot, so syncing shouldn't be difficult if apple copy the functionality of FCP7 multicam.

  • Frame Rate & Resolution change with synchronized clip

Does anyone know why a Canon 7d file recorded at 1920x1080 29.97fps changes to a 1280x720 23.97fps file when a synchronized clip with a separate audio file is created?
After selecting the synchronized clip in the event browser I can edit the compound clip settings to change back to 1920x1080, but 23.98 is the only framerate selectable.  The sync worked beautifully.  My import preferences are set to create optimized media - 422 ProRes.

Well, I went to the clip that was mentioned in the source file and selected it to do a frame rate conversion and its source file was correct. I hit cancel and went back to the my desired clip and the time the source file was correct.
Doing a few more conversion the correct source file doesn't always come up correctly, but I just bounce around selecting a few different clips without actually doing the conversions and it eventually fixes itself...
    It's just buggy!

  • Not seeing the synchronized clip icon

Not seeing it in either the Clip viewer (actually event browser might be the correct term for the window at the top) or when I append it (the selected clip) pressing "E" into the timeline I also see no synchronized clip icon to click on and drill down into. I thought I was careful in the order I selected the clips and synchronized and making sure the audio only clip was mono.
    Any ideas?

Yes I'm a bit late with learning this tutorial so it unfortunately is using one of the first versions of Final Cut X when it came out. Oh well, better late then never.

  • 10.0.1 Synchronized Clips Bug or Not?

Only just noticed this and would like to pin point if it's a bug or not?
I created a Keyword Collection and placed a video/audio file to sync.
Adding a second clip in the Keyword Collection (which is Cam-B), I then synchronized this clip with the same audio file.
I then created a compound clip and added Synchronized Clip: MVI_1051 in the Primary Storyline, and above I connected Synchronized Clip: MVI_3262.
At this stage everything seems to appear normal.
What I generally do now is Break Apart Clip Items, then delete one of the audio track, and my result should be 2x perfectly synched cameras.
However (and only by accident) I didn't delete the 2nd audio track, and zoom into the beginning of the timeline to only find that the audio is out of sync.
    To re-explain.....
I synched 2 video clips with the same audio, created a compound clip (as a timeline) added sync 1 to the primary storyline and connect the 2nd sync above. I then  choose Break Apart Clip Items, and found the audio not lining up at the beginning.
Has anyone got a good explanation for this...? or is it just another FCP X BUG...!

I've been told many times that FCP X is unable to sync 2 cameras at the same time.....!
Out of curiosity I selected both clips + audio and choose synchronize clips, and here are the results
I'm still curious as to why that audio doesn't line up..!

  • 2 Cameras 1 Audio Synchronized Clips lost after timeline review

Hello. I have embarked on a film project and I am trying to sync and log the footage effectively so that a remote editor can begin work and we can utilize the same titled footage. So that he and I can work effectively from the same material, I am syncing all footage and titling it by scene and take. So far I have synced two complete scenes. Occassionally I would open a synced file in the timeline just to review and make sure everything was in order. Then I would highlight the material in the timeline, delete, it, and move on to syncing the next 3 clips. This is why I did not notice that although the title of the synced clip remained in my list of " - Synchronized Clip(s)"  the clip that I had opened and then cleared from the timeline was actually blacked out completely. It was unplayable. It was as though once you added a synced clip to the timeline, you had to use it or it was gone. But as I said, the title of the clip remained so I didn't notice that some were gone.
This has proven very frustrating to me. I have tried to synchronize clips and then turn them into compound clips, but that does not seem to allow me to "break apart" the synced clips for future cutting.
My goal is to completely "sync" the two cams and 1 audio track for editorial review, and then export the entire Library to a hard drive for a two editor work flow.
What the heck am I doing wrong? Or, am I doing anything right? Thanks so much for your help.

You mean once you've deleted it? If this was the synced clip, you just have to resync it.
Once you've opened it in the timeline you don't have to do anything. Just open sonething else into the timeline or open a project.
Sync clips aren't in the Finder. They're simply two separate clips combined in the sync clip container.

  • Synchronized  clip is black

    Hello
I am using FCPX 10.1.3  on a 2014 MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.5
After doing a CLIP-Syncronize Clips function, I get a Syncronized clip that is mostly BLACK with a few good frames.
This occurs almost all the time.
How can I fix this ?
    Thanks

    Hello
Yes, that is correct - 'the sound recorder was running continuously and the camera was stopped and restarted'
My first attempt was to sync one small video clip with the big sound clip.
I deleted all the black sync'ed clips.
I then tried to synchronize ALL 7 video clips with the ONE big sound clip.
That seemed to work.  The big synchronized clip had gaps in the video as expected, when the camera was off.
That may be the way to handle this type of sync task ?
    Thanks

  • Don't see synchronized clip

after selecting a pix, and two separate audio clips, selecting "Synchronize Clip", in some cases I don't see a resulting "synchronized" take... why would this be the case? and with no message telling me why...
    thx
    howard

The synchronized clip gets dumped into the base event.  If you have a keyword collection selected, then you won't see the sync clip.  Just select the event itself and look.

  • Syncing and understanding "synchronized Clips"

We did a fairly large scene in an episode of our TV show.
We used two cameras and 14 mics -- connected to 4 separate recorders.
Kind of a mess, but FCPx has done a great job of sync'ing everything
So... I now have everything synced in a "synchronized Clip".
I do need all the audio tracks for parts of the scene, but there are other parts where I only need one single track (a particular mic on a character)
How do I switch (or remix) that -- just that one instance on the storyline?
    Thanks
    Steve

Setup both accounts and they will remain as separate accounts. They will not merge.
Although both sets of contacts will appear in the Contacts app, they will stay separate.
It's not actually possible to merge contacts from multiple accounts, so there's no worry that that may happen. Although you can choose to view all contacts together in the Contacts app.

  • Stabilizing node clips the shot?

Hi all! I have a question that's driving me nuts:
(English is not my first language so bear with me)
I have a shaky shot that needs heavy cloning and painting. The plan was to stabilize the shot, paint and then destabilize it to apply the same movement it originally had (I read this in the manual) everything went fine until I destabilized it: I noticed the shot was now clipped where the first stabiliation node had run out of space (don't know if I'm explaining myself).
Shake composites in infinte space, right? Why is the shot being clipped, what am I missing?
My client is getting here tomorrow so any help would be ENOURMOUSLY appreciated! : D!

Sorry this is late for your client review...but...
Quickpaint clips the "infinite space" by cropping the image. It is an awful behavior.
Since you already did the paint work, you can do as Patrick outlines above - just use SetAlpha to make the image alpha solid 1 before the move/paint/move & then Over the painted/destabilized over the original. Bear in mind that the stable/destable operation will soften that image slightly. The original will not be similarly softened...so you'll have a hard edged division between slightly soft & original sharp. (This may not be visible to the normal naked eye...but if someone likes to pick pepper out of flyshit...). Also, if your paint breaks frame, this method will yield a hard edge somewhere...but it doesn't sound like you'll have this problem.
Next time, use the Crop node to enlarge the stabilized image enough to keep the image in view throughout the sequence. Paint that, destabilize & crop back down to your original size.
    Best of luck,
    -G

  • Stabilizing a clip

Let me try this approach to my problem - can someone advise me on the simple step-by-step method of stablizing a clip.  I would like to (I THINK) keep each clip as a "standalone" processed clip identified by it's original numeric reference, and i'm not sure if i should leave AE open and running while i search for the next clip in my sequence to stablize, or shut it down after stablizing each clip, and if i should save the stablized clip as "clip33stablized" or something on that order, OR if none of that is necessary at all; i just need to assimilate the processed clip as it dynamically links back to Pr.
I am used to finding workarounds as an experienced AVID user, but am new to Pr - i have the complete suite CS5.5; plenty of horsepower dell 8300 8G at 3.4 Ghz  and 5TB  storage.
At this point, all i need to do with AE is stabilization, and have gotten it to work correctly - USUALLY - but have had a few quirky exceptions - namely, that the processed clip i end up with in Pr is NOT the clip i just stabilized...with the same result after several different approaches.
hopefully i have the vocabulary correct enough to explain myself..
    thanks for any help!

•What version of After Effects? Include the minor version number (e.g., After Effects CS5.5 with the 10.5.1 update).
Cs 5.5 with the 10.5.0.253 update
•Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
Entire package was installed less than 90 days ago – is there a more recent update?
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
    I’m running windows 7 home premium version 6.1 build 7601 SP1
•What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".    Please tell me how to get info per your suggestion (like H.264…) etc

•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
Following is a step-by-step Sequence:  (I am only documenting this as I go, and may NOT be the precise
Steps I had taken before. )
    select clip on PrPro timeline, r click and select “replace with AE comp”; AE opens, and I name the project;
AE opens.  I select my footage from the project panel, where there are 3 items listed. 00003.mts (my footage), and
“MPEG” as the type…and aqua label  in the center with the standard AV file windows icon (a film strip with a
musical note superimposed) – above it is an  Item with the same name, 000003.mts, a film strip icon and
sandstone label; the preview at the topshows this as the 1440X1080 (1.33) composition panel item, and the
one below says “ZOOshoot linked comp #65”,the ZOOShoot being the name of the PrPro project.
At this point, the indicator bar color in the timeline panel has changed to aqua from sandstone and
composition panel has three tabs showing composition 000003.mts, footage 00003.mts,and layer 00003.mts.
I select layer, and the composition panel now shows the timeline ruler and expected icons along
the bottom of the panel.  I select Animation/Stabilize Motion from the top menu, and the stabilizer starts up, tracking
    it’s progress.
I can see on my other monitor that the clip I originally selected turned to a lilac color as soon as it was
linked to AE (not sure if before or after naming the clip). After the stabilizer completes, the clip area render bar in
PrPro turns yellow, and I “render entire work area”.  The clips plays normally.  The audio portion has not changed
Color, as expected, and I see from the descriptor on the audio portion that this particular clip had and extended
Duration, playing at 68.22 %, but apparently integrated into the stabilization, since the clip fits perfectly.
Step #2 – I select a second clip, later in the timeline,  right click and select “repl w AE comp” –, which is still running,
And I have NOT saved the previous clip  THIS time, there is  No request to name the project, which is a bit confusing to me, since THIS clip is definitely different, HOWEVER, AE responds with “saving project” popup window, and takes
A second to save it,  before The new clip actually appears in the project panel.  The appropriate three items appear
In the project panel, along with the original clip data that was already there.  Other than the clip numbers now being
00010, the linked comp number has incremented, as expected.  I select each “00010” item, and make sure that IT is
The image in the composition panel;.
AT this point, I am ceasing the processing, since I now have a situation where
The composition panel is showing inconsistent results in the tabs; i.e., composition 00010, footage 00010, and layer
00003.   I use ctrl-Z to back my way out, until there is NOTHING in the project panel,  and the selected clip
In PrPro has now reverted from it’s lilac color – I begin the process over, notice that AE does NOT request a project name,  but now the project panel has only items referring to clip 00010.   It may be that I have heretofore not
Observed each change along the way,  but, even though having gone through the “basics” tutorials many times,
Have found no reference to specific steps that I am missing.
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?    See above
•Has this ever worked before?  YES
•What other software are you running?   Usually nothing other than PrPro and AE, possibly Internet Explorer, and
MS Word, for reference and documentation.
•Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?   Not that I am aware of…
•Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected.  Dell 8300 8 processors # 3.5 Ghz, 5TB storage
W 1.5 os drive, 3 external WD drives, 500G, 1T, 2T, those drives being USB
•Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)? NO
•Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects?   I guess not…(?)
•Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both?   Originally, before problems developed,
I was using no preview at all, just returning to PrPro and rendering the stabilized clip.
•Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing  NO
NOTE:   At this point, All I need to use in AE is the Stabilizer;  being referred to the tutorials that “open an entire
World” of movie manipulation and FX is not helpful; I am perfectly willing to study that portion that relates
To my issue here, but have spent way too much time with non-useful tutorials.   In the interim, it has been
Suggested that the entire issue is with the dynamic link, and that I could simply START the process in AE, and
Export the link to my PrPro project, which is an acceptable workaround for me.
    Thanks, Don.

  • How can I stabilize a synchronized clip?

Here is the problem: After importing my video footage into FCPX in syncronized some clips with audio, which was recorded seperatly. When I add one of those syncronizedd clips to the timeline it is not possible to stabilize the clip or to remove rolling shutter, as this two options are not available in the inspector. However, I'm able to do so when I use the un-syncronized clip instead. Any idea to solve this problem?

Right click and open the synced clip in its timeline. Stabilzation should be available.

  • Final cut x not synchronizing clips

Odd behavior, FCPX is not synchrinizing the audio/video clips.  I quit FCPX and restarted, it synced the first a/v clip but would not do the second that I selected.  It is going through the processing acting like it is going to work then nothing.  No warning/diaglogue it just stops and there is no new compound clip.
    Thanks for any help.

Be sure there's nothing in the search field for the Browser, and the filter menu is set to All Clips, and you're looking in the Event, not just in a keyword or smart search collection.

  • My synchronized clips (audio and video) have lost their compound clip icon after I bought the full version of FCP X, why is that?

I have noticed a few changes to my FCP workflow after installing FCPX from the trial version I had before. I've noticed that when I sync audio and video files together via Clip > Synchronize Clips.. the icon at the top left corner of the thumnail is no longer there as it was in the trial version. I also have to right click and select 'open in timeline' to work on the files. I much preferred clicking on the thumnail's icon in the event library and it opening up in the timeline. Also Stabilization is missing from my video effects! How odd.

I no longer have the trial version this is the point. Bought the 'release' version about 6 weeks ago. Still doesn't explain why the stabilization option randomly appears for some clips and not for others. Also would like to know if I can get the compound icon back on the thumbnails for synchonized clips.
