StackOverflowError while using Swing
I am getting a StackOverflowError while designing a Swing GUI. Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening?
Thanks for your help so far. Here is the code for the panel - I can't see what is going wrong
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class TestPanel extends JFrame {
private JLabel GPSStartLabel = new JLabel("GPS Start time");
private JTextField GPSStartField = new JTextField();
private JCheckBox GPSStartNSCheck = new JCheckBox("in ns");
private JLabel GPSEndLabel = new JLabel("GPS Start time");
private JTextField GPSEndField = new JTextField();
private JCheckBox GPSEndNSCheck = new JCheckBox("in ns");
public LALAppsTestPanel() {
doLayout();
public void doLayout() {
JPanel panel = new JPanel();
setContentPane(panel);
panel.add(GPSStartLabel);
panel.add(GPSStartField);
panel.add(GPSStartNSCheck);
panel.add(GPSEndLabel);
panel.add(GPSEndField);
panel.add(GPSEndNSCheck);
pack();
setVisible(true);
}Can anyone see what the problem is?

Problem while using swing. I need some help
Whe I am trying to execute the following code (very simple one) my PC hangs up, any ideas about this?!!
the code is:
import javax.swing.JOptionPane; // import class JOptionPane
public class Welcome4 {
public static void main( String args[] )
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(
null, "Welcome\nto\nJava\nProgramming!" );
System.exit( 0 ); // terminate the program
//end of the codeHi,
Your code works fine on my PC. It doesn't hang but come out with expected result. -
Using Swing as interface to a dll
I am trying to use Swing as my cross platform GUI for c++ dll's. Each dll has its own GUI. However, one of my dll's controls what other dlls are loaded. This works fine until I try to load a second instance of the control dll. I get an access violation message when I try to update my gui. If I try to load the two dlls from the c++ everything works fine, but if I load one from the Java GUI I get an null access exception. I'm guessing its caused by one of two problems:
1) The DLL loading is trashing the executing stack of either the JAVA or the native code.
2) As the code returns from the constructor call to the newly loaded dll JNI is deleting the interface objects that it is creating on the heap.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately I don't get an error log from JAVA.

Updation error while using a foreign data source
Hi All,
I am trying to connect to SQL server 2000, from my BC4J driven swing application. i am using Oracle containers for Java (Development Suite)
Going by the steps detailed in
"SQL Server Walkthrough" on OTN, i have tested with two drivers:
1) Microsoft SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver
2) DataDirect JDBC driver.
In both the cases, the resulting application runs well for inserts and deletes, but FAILS WHILE UPDATION.
The following error is displayed while using the datadirect for updates.
(oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-26041: Failed to post data to database during "Update": SQL Statement " UPDATE dbo.BR_CATEGORY BrCategory SET CATEGORY_NAME=? WHERE CATEGORY_CODE=?".
----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
(java.sql.SQLException) [DataDirect][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'BrCategory'.
A similar errror is displayed for the Microsoft JDBC driver as well.
What could be the cause?
Thanks,
SumitThanks Deepak,
I am not using Northwind and Pubs sample databases. So that rules out the change in ownership from dbo to our SQL login account.
I am quoting the last paragraph in the document:
"To be able to browse in the tester, make sure you add a driver class to the configuration and choose this local configuration in the tester. However you will not be able to update without errors and this is a known issue. For step-by-step instructions, see the SQL Server Walkthrough topic."
What bothers me is this line:
"However you will not be able to update without errors and this is a known issue"
Are we talking about updation in general, or just updation through BC4J tester. I am using a separate Swing-Jclient application to access the application module.
Thanks in advance,

Using Swing applet to write data to file on SERVER
Hello,
I'm in the process of writing an applet using Swing (SDK v1.4.2). Here's the deal. The JApplet calls a JPanel, which will be used by customers on my site to enter data. I'm adding a <Save> button to the "form" which is supposed to write data to a file on the server (in order to preserve the customer's preferences).
Please note that I am NOT attempting to write data to the customer's hard disk. That requires digital certificates, etc. which I am trying to avoid for now.
Instead, I am using the URL class to access the file:
URL page = new URL("http://www.whatever.com/mycustomers/preferences.txt")
I then use the URLConnection class to establish the connection:
URLConnection conn = this.page.openConnection();
conn.setDoInput(true);
conn.setDoOutput(true);
conn.connect();
etc...
I've created a text file (preferences.txt) on my web site. Using the classes InputStreamReader, BufferedStreamReader, and StringBuffer, I can successfully read the file into a JOptionPane in my applet.
The problem comes when I try to write data TO this file. I know the file exists because the applet can read it. I've set the permissions on the file to 666. I've got all of the appropriate syntax within a try statment that catches an IOException. I also have JOptionPanes all over the place to let me know where the program is. I've tried different combinations of output streams like BufferedWriter, BufferedOutputStream, StringWriter, but the file does not get updated. When the applet runs, it does not throw any exceptions, not even when I change the URL from "HTTP://www.whatever.com/prefs.txt" to "HTTP:/www.whatever.com/prefs.txt" (only one slash on HTTP, shouldn't I get a MalformedURLException?)
I apologize for all the background, but I thought you might need it. The bottom line is:
1) Can an applet write to a file on a remote server (not local hard disk)?
2) If so, what (if any) caveats are there?
3) Is there a way to check for file existence or be able to create a new file?
4) I'm using the HTTP protocol - is there some restriction that prevents an applet from writing to a file using that protocol? If so, is there a workaround?
5) Assuming that creating/writing a file using the method I've described is possible, what would be the appropriate output streams to use? (Currently, I'm using OutputStreamWriter with BufferedWriter).
I've been struggling with this for a while. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
P.S. I also posted this message on the Applet development forum, but I've received no response as of yet.Http servers support PUT as a mechanism to upload data to a specified URL. Get on the other hand which is what most people are familiar with is how you retrieve that data. The basic URLConnection is an abstraction of the Http connection which can be used for GET and POST operations by default based on doInput(true|false).. If you which to use any of the http methods other than GET|POST you will have to cast the URLConnection to HttpURLConnection so you can gain access to the specific Http functionaility that could not be abstracted.
Since you are using a hosting service the chances are that you won't be able to use HTTP PUT on their server. Most servers do not support HTTP PUT without configuring them todo so. Now Apache allows localized config through the .htacess file. It might be possible (keep in mind I am not an apache expert) to configure a particular directory to allow HTTP PUT using this .htacess file it may not be possible. You will have to consult the Apache web server documentation for that answer.
But regardless you can use the HttpURLConnection and the PUT method to send data from your applet to the server. In fact that is the preferred way to do this. If you can not configure your web server to support that method then you will have to develop a Servlet to do it. A servlet has several methods such as doGet(), doPost(), and doPut(). You would override the doPut() method get the URI path create a file and a FileOutputStream to that file, get from the request the inputstream, possibly skip the http headers, and then write byte for byte the incoming data to your OutputStream until you reach the end at which point you would close the OutputStream and send an Http Response of some sort. Typically in HTTP it would be 200 OK plus some web content. You content can be empty so long as your applet recognizes that is what it should expect...
And away you go... -
Hello all,
The Java Specification tell us that AWT is different with Swing, The AWT component is heavy-weight while Swing is light-weight, and the light-weight component can be painted only when they are added into a heavy-weight window.
Can anyone tell me why??
ThxProblem 1: more classes and object methods than you can shake a stick at. Too damn many
Yes, it's quite true that there are a lot of classes and methods. How else would you expect to get the wide range of functionality that Swing provides? In any case, you don't have to use or even know about most of them, only a small subset related to what you're doing. For example, to create a simple dialog box you need only know about JFrame and the components you'll be putting in it (JButton, etc.).
Problem 2: some inconsistencies in the methods that apply to one object do not logically apply to another similar eg: TextArea, TextPane, JEditorPane, DefaultStyledDocument.
Could you give specific examples?
Problem 3: swing was designed to look sleek, individual (with a 'I am java' stamp) and stylish too. This most certainly failed, to most its just flat, grey and boring. (Yeah, yeah, I know - the swing set that comes in the samples with 1.4 looks orgasmic)
Swing was designed to use a pluggable look & feel; you can set its appearance to one of several preinstalled sets or download one that suits your needs. For me, anyway, I don't want my applications to look "individual"; I want consistency in my user interface. I may prefer the Mac look & feel to Windows', but I would never want a Windows application to attempt to follow the Mac user interface conventions; having to switch frequently between fundamentally different user interface styles would drastically reduce my efficiency.
Problem 4: performance! Its just too damn slow.
Yes, Swing is slow compared to native user interface toolkits, but that's the price you pay for full cross-platform compatibility. I for one would never want to go back to the days of "write once, debug everywhere" that were the result of using native user interface components, which as a matter of course have many subtle (and some not-so-subtle) differences across different platforms.
I believe Swing is a great user interface toolkit, and that it's headed in the right direction. It does have many rough edges, but for its age it is quite robust. The reason we use Swing, in my opinion, is that it provides the best combination of simplicity and functionality in a free, cross-platform user interface toolkit.

Anyway, now that you've posted that code, what is your question about it? I see you are calling a "getAvailableFontFamilyNames" method; do you have a question about that? If so, what is the question? -

OSB: Cannot acquire data source error while using JCA DBAdapter in OSB
Hi All,
I've entered 'Cannot acquire data source' error while using JCA DBAdapter in OSB.

I created a basic DBAdapter in JDeveloper, got the xsd file, wsdl file, .jca file and the topLink mapping file imported them into OSB project.
Then I used the .jca file to generate a business service, and tested, then the error occurs as described above.

I found that the data source is registered on server soa_server1 as follows:

I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
But I found the following information:
Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

When I go to RSRT and execute a report the output doesn't display full text for a characteristic. i.e. the characteristic has a size of 60 characters, but only 30 chars ( approx) are being displayed as report output in RSRT.
COuld anyone here please help me in getting the full text using RSRT transaction?
I am not using Bex here for the reason that the output has more than 1.8 lac records and hence I get an error while using Bex
WHen I try to execute this report using Bex for a small selection I could see full text there.
And there is no text master data maintained for this characteristic.
Thanks in advance for your replies.Hi,
As you said you have 1.8 Lac records, There is no point in increasing the size to maximum number possible i.e 65K .
You have following three options to satisfy your requirement.:
1. Usage of web reporting for export of more than 65k rows. According the note: 1127156 - Safety belt: Result set is too large, in BW version 7.x it I possible to set parameters that would allow such a massive export of data.
2. Functionality of OpenHubs. Data can be placed directly into the files (e.g. in CSV format) on application server. Be careful here OpenHubs are specially licensed and by using it there are additional fees.
3. Coding of custom ABAP report which runs BW query and gets all its output and saves it in the flat files.
Please let me know if this info is helpful.

11i Login Page is showing 'Error on Page' while using IE 7
Hi DBAs,
I am using Oracle 11.5.10.2 with DB 10.2.0.4 (Single Instance). The EBS is on RUP6 and using JDK 1.6.0_12.
I was using Firefox and not getting any issue. I used first time IE-7 (7.0.5x) to access the application. I noticed that Pressing the 'Login' button on Login Page , it was saying in the left bottom of the IE says 'Error on page' and was not navigate to any page or did not perform any action.
I verified all the services and everything was OK. While using Firefox , I was able to navigate the application w/o any issue.
Using IE 7 , I am able to access
http://host.domain:8000/OA_HTML/fndvald.jsp?username=sysadmin&;password=sysadmin
Most of the stuff seems to be working fine while logging in using above URL but the 'GO' buttons are throwing same error in IE 'Error on page'. Rest of the Bottons like 'Edit Navigator' , 'Edit Favorites' are working fine but when on any Page I press the 'Go' button then IE showing Error. It seems to me that when a button need to navigate to next page then IE saying 'Error on page' but when a button have to lunch a new page it is working fine.
All the responsibilities and links are working fine. Application Navigation using Firefox is working absolutely fine.
Seeking your advise and suggestions to resolve the issue.
Thanks
-Samar-Hi Samar,
You can clear the cache as follows (login as applmgr user, and source the application env file):
$ cd $COMMON_TOP/_pages
$ rm -R *
ML Note: 285218.1 is not helpful as I am on later version of EBS (11.5.10.2 with RUP6 and Developer6i Patchset 19). At Client side I am using Windows XP SP3 with IE 7.0.5.x with JInit 1.3.21 and JRE 1.6.0.12.Did you review the steps under "Recommended MSIE Browser Settings" section?
Can you reproduce the issue with JInitiator? If yes, any errors in the JInitiator console window? Enable debug (you may also enable trace for Sun JRE) and see if any errors are reported there.

While using bluetooth wireless on iPad, it stalls and the on screen keyboard comes up.
I just bought my iPad 2 about two weeks ago. Before that I was playing around with my parent's iPad first generation.
For both iPads, I have the same problems while using the same wireless keyboard on both of them.
1. While typing, at random times the wireless keyboard stops responding and the on screen keyboard shows up.
2. While typing, also at random times, the wireless keyboard stops responding and the same alphabet that I last typed in would multiply itself until I either press "command + A" and delete or lock my parent's iPad and iPad 2.
3. While typing, my wireless keyboard stops responding, on screen keyboard shows up, I select my on screen keyboard to hide, continued typing on the wireless keyboard, it stops responding again and my iPad2 restarts in a split second with the black backdrop and apple logo in the middle and goes to lock screen. Then everything is fine.
4. While not typing, on screen keyboard shows up at random times while bluetooth is paired to wireless keyboard and then goes back down, all this while bluetooth icon at the top screen of the iPad2 flashes.
I don't know what is wrong. At first I thought my iPad 2 has a problem but when I remembered the same problems occurred on my parent's iPad first generation, I don't know if it is just my keyboard or the iPad(s) have a problem.
Please help me!If this is only one specific app, it is a problem with that application's programming.
You can try to reset your iPad by holding down both the Home and Lock buttons for approximately 15 seconds or until the device restarts while ignoring the power slider.
