Standalone database 11.2.0.1 as a resource in GI 11.2.0.2 on Solaris 10.

Hello, I have an standalone (not RAC) 11.2.0.1 ddbb installed in a 2 nodes GI 11.2.0.2 cluster on Solaris 10. My question is:
Should the ddbb service be registered into the 3 LISTENER_SCANS at the same time or just only one LISTENER_SCAN, the one with the first IP resolved by the DNS?
This is what I am observing: defining remote_listener as SCAN_NAME and starting up the ddbb only registers 1 LISTENER_SCAN which changes everytime ddbb is restarted due to the round robin definition for this entry at the DNS, I guess (for that I had to change SOLARIS nscd configuration on both nodes in order to avoid name caching).
With a 10.2.0.5 ddbb I am defining the three SCAN IP address in the tnsnames.ora for the remote_listener and the 3 LISTENER_SCAN registers the ddbb service. For me this means more availability since in the first scenary if the LISTENER_SCAN that registers the ddbb dies or is stopped there is a lose of service until the listener is restarted os the ddbb changes the remote_listener to register again.
Thanks.

HI,
yes SCAN is a resource from clustered GI (not from GI for single servers).
However in your case a 11.2.0.x database should be able to set the remote listener to the SCAN address, but it has to register with all 3 SCANs.
If it does not, it could be that there is a glitch in the 11.2.0.1 software and you should upgrade.
As a workaround you can do the same like you did for your 10.2. databases (and use the tnsnames entry with the 3 IP adresses of the SCAN).
Regards
Sebastian

  • OFS add standalone database to group error

I was installing OFS 3.3.3 with Oracle 10g R2 on 2 win2k3sp1 servers. The standalone database instance could be startup at each node respectively without any issue.
The standalone database verification ran successfully. (I failover the data files to the second node, and verify that I can start and connect the same database instance, maybe I missed any configuration in registry or somewhere on node2?)
But when I tried to add the resource to the cluster group, I got following error:

    Hi,
Did you manage to get past this error?
Did you set DB_NAME in the init.ora file as per the message for ORA-01506?

  • HELP! Oracle FailSafe - Listener fails when adding standalone database

Well, I have a cluster of two nodes with the following specs:
    (1) an Oracle 10g database each
    (2) Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)
    (3) Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition
    (4) Intel Itanium Processor
    (5) Oracle Failsafe 3.3.3 for Windows 2003 64-bit
The 64-bit Oracle Failsafe doesn't come with Oracle Failsafe Manager, so I used a Failsafe Manager remotely from another clustered servers. The version is also 3.3.3, but it's running on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Well, after connecting to the 64-bit cluster, I added the standalone database to a Cluster Group. There are two cluster groups on the Server:
(1)"Cluster Group" (the default cluster group created by MSCS); containing an IP address, a network name, Oracle Cluster Services, and the Quorum hard drive.
(1)"ORACLE DB" A cluster gropu I created for the database; containing another IP address, a network name for the IP address, and every hard drive volumes of the database files.
The database currently resides on the Node 2 (because I created it there). I have successfully verified the database (using "Verify Standalone Database" option). BUT when I added the database into the cluster group ORACLE DB, it failed with the following message:
23 20:48:48 ** ERROR : FS-10066: Failed to start Windows service OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener for the Oracle Net listener
When I opened the Windows Event Viewer, apparently the Listener Service had started, but it soon "terminated unexpectedly":
At first, the Listener Service appeared to be started:
But this is what happened next; it seemed the Listener Service terminated abruptly after entering the running state for a very short time:
What happened? What should I do? What is the problem? Many thanks!
PS: the following are the messages from both Verifying Standalone Database and Adding Standalone Database. The verification was successfull, but I just failed to add the database:

    Hello Amit,
Here is a good discussion link to how to do this:
Convert RAC database to single instance database
Also, your best bet to avoid downtime and avoid data loss when converting from RAC to single instance would be to implement a standby. Here is a link to a whitepaper related to the topic:
[Convert RAC to single instance with standby|http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10g_RACPrimarySingleInstancePhysicalStandby.pdf]
    Hope this helps.

I installed application server by using that MR on RAC database.
Now this application server Portal as middle tier went alive.
Now I would like to MR from existing RAC database to newly installed standalone database.(Sun SPARC 64)
Is it possible0? If yes, how? If no, Why?
source db platform is Sun X86 and destination db platform is Sun SPARC64.
Source db is using ASM file system and destination db is using normal filesystem.
After the move, my application server should work. (Because this is production system).

I’m sorry for the way I posted my queries.
The document you suggested me is really useful but I want to make sure this document will surely applicable for my case. Our concern is to move the entire database which is also MR for Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.3.0. Let me explain you more about our architecture.

We have two node RAC db and created MR on that db by MRCA. (Oracle home 1)
We installed Oracle AS Infra tier Identity Manager. (including OID, HA, DIP but excluding SSO component) (oracle home 2)
    Midnode-1 & Midnode2 (Sun X86- OS: Sun Solaris 10)
We installed Oracle AS Infra tier Identity Manager. (Including SSO, HA, DIP but excluding OID) (oracle home 1)
We installed Oracle AS Middle tier (Portal and wireless services). (Including Web cache and Portal along with default component j2ee, http) (Oracle home 2)
We need to move whatever running on dbnode1 and 2 to another couple of Sun SPARC64 – OS: Sun Solaris 10 machines. We know binary migration is not possible between X86 and SPARC64. Therefore, I have installed a new database with SPARC64 installation media and created fresh MR by running runRepca.sh script. In one of the document Oracle recommend to do RMAN backup to move entire data from existing (original) database to new (target) database.

    Chapter 9 Changing Infrastructure Services
9.6 Changing the Metadata Repository Used by Identity Management
In this procedure, new database also must use the same Oracle home, datafile location, SID, and global database name as the original Metadata Repositorys. Our newly installed database is not RAC database with ASM but this is standalone database on qfs file system. We could not create database with the same datafile location as the original MR.
    • Can we do full database export/import? (your document only talking about portal schema but in my MR there are around 60 schemas related with MR and we need to import all the schemas)
    • Is there any other possible solution for case?
    Thanks in Advance :)

  • Error when installing sapccmsr agent on standalone database server

    Hi All,
I am setting up standalone ccms agent (sapccmsr) on a database server on a windows platform.
I am following SAP note: 371023 - OS07 ST06 - Monitoring operating system data and also refering to ADM107 documentation. I have created csmconf file from the application server and ran sapccmsr -R in the directory (S:\saploc\prfclog). I have also set DIR_PERF to S:\saploc\prfclog.
I get the following error message when I try to register the agent.

Hello. Saploc is not your "S:\saploc" directory is the shared directory are created in sap installation time, check your Shares --> "Computer management" --> Shared folders --> Shares
    . Check your Saploc it's like drive:\usr\sap

  • How to install SSAS Cluster instance with Always On availability group(Standalone database instance) in same windows cluster servers

We have requirement like to Install the SSAS as Cluster instance where SQL Server Database engine was installed with Always On availability group. Please help me to how configure it
Currently we have following configuration in Current steup.
Node1 and Node2 are in windows cluster
Node1 has SQL Server Database engine Instance1 as Standalone
Node2 has SQL Server Database engine Instance2 as Standalone
Instance1 and Instance2 configured for Always On availability group with Listener.
Now we have to steup SSAS instance with High availibilty. I know we have only option is to install cluster SSAS instance.
Can some one provide information below.
    1. How to steup Cluster SSAS instance in this servers.
    2. Is this will have any dependancy on exisiting Listner name.
    3. Is this affects the availiblity groups, if SSAS instance failed over to another node.
    Thanks in Advance
    Sriram

You will need to have SSAS installed as a clustered instance with shared storage. Refer to the whitepaper from this MSDN article
How To Cluster SQL Server Analysis Services
Availability Group is in it's own Role/Resource Group. When you create the clustered SSAS, it will create its own Role/Resource Group. This means that it will require its own virtual network name and virtual IP address and will not affect the existing Availability
Group. You can also have it on the existing Availability Group if you want to. However, you need to decide if you want SSAS to failover with the Availability Group or not. Your design choices will depend on that decision.

  • Using oracle lite as a standalone database

we are currently using olite 4.0 as a standalone/embedded database. although some form of data synchronisation is required, it is handled separately by our own program.
to use oracle 9i lite as a standalone/embedded database seems like a daunting task now. the environment now is much more complex compared to olite 4.0.
any idea how I can use oracle 9i lite just for the database only, without installing all the unnecessary stuffs?
    thanks.

    Hi,
I have been using Oracle Flashback Database for a long time in our test environments. As you already said, I recommend that you create Guaranteed Restore Points rather than rely on db_flashback_retention_target.  If you are planning to use Guaranteed Restore Points only, then you don't need to turn on flashback. If flashback database is not enabled, then the database must be mounted, not open, when creating the first guaranteed restore point (or if all previously created guaranteed restore points have been dropped).
    My Answers:
    1) I don't think so. Flashback database is faster compared to RMAN restore/recover operations.
    2) Create a backup ins not mandatory, but is a good practice.
    3) I created a Nagios plugin that take this work for me, but you can check the v$recovery_file_dest view from time to time.
    4) If you take a backup then I don't see a problem, but take care that flashback database relies not only on flashback log files but also in archive redo log files. I recommend you to delete archivelogs (from RMAN) after you drop the restore point.
    5) Flashback log files are automatically deleted after the Guaranteed restore points are deleted.
    6) Read documentation, make more tests. In 2011 I wrote an article (Brazilian Portuguese) about Flashback Database. Maybe you can take a look ;-)

  • Db- verify of standalone database file

I need help with database verification for a 4.5.20 CDS application running on VxWorks.
I create an environment, and create ~30 databases within that environment, which all exist within one single file. I recently discovered that since I create a set of database file handles at startup, which are shared between several VxWorks tasks, that I need to specify the DB_THREAD flag to both the environment open, and database open calls. This works great and our concurrency problems were eliminated.
The environment is configured with the following flags:
    (DB_INIT_CDB | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_CREATE | DB_SYSTEM_MEM | DB_THREAD)
However, now my database verifcation is no longer working correctly.
Here is my original code, where I create the verification database handle within the database environment which I later open the databases within:
    if ((ret = db_create(&dbp_verify, dbenv_starchoice, 0)) != 0)
    {goto err;}
    if ((ret = dbp_verify->verify(dbp_verify, DB_STARCHOICE_FILENAME, NULL, NULL, 0)) != 0)
    if ((ret = db_destroy()) != 0)
    {goto err;}
Until I set the DB_THREAD flag for the environment and databases, this code worked just fine. However, with DB_THREAD flag set the db->verify routine NEVER returns.
So, I modified the code so that I create the dbp_verify database handle outside of the database environment by setting the second parameter of db_create to NULL. Now when the verification runs I get the following error:
    S_iosLib_DRIVER_GLUT
I suspect that this is because it has no way to know where to create the temporary files needed for the verify, where previously it used the "temp" directory I specified when configuring the database environment.
Can anyone tell me how to correctly configure the database handle I use for the verifcation, so that I can verify it as a standalone? Or, tell me why when the environment is configured with DB_THREAD the verification never returns??
    Thanks!

I have used two different Berkeley builds. For the first one, db->verify had not returned after having let my box run overnight. When I did a task trace in the morning on the task that had called db->verify, I got the following:
    0x80053670 vxTaskEntry +0x14 : Neptune::OsTask::entryHelper(Neptune::OsTask*) (

    0x801996b4 semTake +0x160: semBTake ()
    value = 0 = 0x0
Then we discovered there was a known bug in VxWorks due to the use of select(), which is used by os_sleep(). So, one of our developers modified os_sleep() based on both Wind River's and Oracle's recommendations so that os_sleep() does not use select.
When I used this new build, db->verify still does not return, but when I do a stack trace on the task I don't get anything. tt simply returns value = 0 = 0x0. It is like the task just stopped running though it's status is READY, not PEND.
    Does this information help?

  • DB Link between RAC and a standalone Database - HELP

    Hi Guys,
I have a database DB1 on server1 (192.168.100.10), and then I have a RAC database on physical servers PROD1 192.168.100.1, and PROD2 192.168.100.5 with a load balancer. These two have virtual IPs 192.168.100.2 and 192.168.100.6. I have managed to create a DB Link on the RAC db pointing to DB1 with success, but when I create a db link on the DB1 server pointing to the RAC it fails. TNSPING works fine if I refer to the physical IP, but when I try the virtual IP it fails, but once I logon to the database I fail to connect using a db link or conn user1@prod1_link. • Oracle Database Express Edition used in a standalone database

I have been developing databases for years in Access. I have had alot of people want me to make databases for them. I do not want to make the databases in access and then have to worry about sending a database to a different state and then find out that the user has a different version of access installed and it is not working correctly.
Can I use Oracle database express edition to create a database with a front end that I can send to others and they can install it on their computer and run it? Or do they need to install the full version of Oracle Express? In other words is there like a Runtime version?

    user13756579 wrote:
I saw that had to install twice last night, messed up my password. The one thing I am worried about is the database running all the time on the users computer, even tho they might not use the database for months at a time. These databases are small databases to keep the data of group members. ie. name, address, phone, personal information and maybe a scanned document or two.
I have looked at other database programs, but do not want to put out alot of money if I might only develop 3-5 small databases a year. You may develope your application in such manner, that it will start Oracle XE service and stop it on exit. Set the service to start manually. That's it.

  • Can 10g release 2 standalone database control behaves as 9i oem

    Hi all,
My question is ,in 9i we have oem,we can add multiple databases in 9i oem.At the same time we can login to multiple databases and see different sessions,OS user, memory information, storage information of different databases. Can we perform the same task with 10g EM database control without having the 10g EM grid control.I know by 10g grid control we have a centralized management. But I don't want to install 10g grid control ,I want to make use of 10g database control and monitor my different databases.I wprked in an distributed environment.

    Hi,
BY installing intelligent agent on separate servers and oracle management server ,it means I have to install EM grid control.I don't want to install Em grid control.I need to monitor different databases as we do in 9i OEM .Is there any option to use 10g database control to perform the same task.

  • Business Contact Manager Standalone Database

We are wanting to deploy a BCM database between three users.  Can that database function without Outlook on a server or do you have to have Outlook installed on that server to utilize it for the DB?
We aren't needing Outlook on the server as nobody would access it.

    Hi,
The server does not need to have Microsoft Office or Business Contact Manager for Outlook installed, but it must have a supported version of Microsoft SQL Server installed. You can use the Business Contact Manager for Outlook Database Tool to do that.
Please refer to Manage your Business Contact Manager database on a server:
