Standard user accounts dont have safari just a "?" where it should be ????

under my admin user I created 2 standard users and neither shows safari ? there is just a question mark where it is on my admin account ....
is there a setting that is wrong ?
thanks !!!

If the Safari application is in the Applications folder on your hard disk, run the repair permissions command in the Disk Utility, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Otherwise, move it there.

  • In regard to Time Machine. I have two accounts one is an admin account, the other is a standard user account. When I implement Time Machine when I am logged into the Admin account, is the standard user also backed up?

    in regard to Time Machine.
I have two accounts on one Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8. One account is an admin account, the other is a standard user account.
When I initially implemented Time Machine I was logged into the Admin account. I allowed Time Machine to erase the drive and backup the computer. Is the standard user account contents also backed up?
Also after I completed the Time Machine backup session, I turned off Time Machine and removed the portable hard drive. I plan to return in to Time Machine after being away from the portable hard drive for approximately a month. After a short interruption of approximately one month, when the Macbook Pro is reconnected and Time Machine is turned back on, will Time Machine create a new instance of a backup? WIll the back up contain the standard user account changes?

Time Machine backs up by default all the user accounts.
When you reconnect the backup drive after one month, Time Machine will do an incremental backup and it might take a while minutes to hours depending on how much has been changed. With a gap of a month, Time Machine will have to do a lengthier than normal survey of both drives to see what has changed, so it might take some time preparing for the backup. The backup will include everything that has changed since the previous one.

  • Clear another user's print jobs from standard user account

I have Parallels set up to print from Windows through Bonjour printer sharing with Mac OS X. Periodically print jobs I've sent from Windows will hang, or for some other reason I need to cancel them. Because I usually use a standard user account, I apparently can't delete them from the print queue--or, rather, I can, but then they just appear again. I can get rid of them by fast-switching over to the admin account, opening System Preferences, opening the Print & Fax pane, opening the queue, deleting the jobs, logging out, and then logging back in to my standard account. But that's kind of a pain, and I've been trying to find a faster way to do it.
I have some extremely rudimentary knowledge of Terminal, and came across the sudo lprm - command, which seemed like it would do it. I had thought that sudo would just ask me for an admin password, but when I tried it, of course, I discovered that what it apparently actually wants is for my standard user account to be in the sudoers file (or, I guess, for me to have root enabled and use that password somehow).
But since I don't really know what I'm doing, and doing anything with sudo or root access scares the bejesus out of me unless I know exactly what I'm doing: Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to do here? Is there a way to run the lprm - command to clear everything out of the print queue with just an admin password, without requiring root access? Or have I gone completely off the rails and missed some other easy way to clear another user's print job from a standard user account without resorting to Terminal at all?
    Thanks!

OK, never mind--I had assumed I needed to work some sort of admin privilege into the mix to do this, since that's what the GUI seemed to require, but it turns out that just using "lprm -" in Terminal clears it right out. Perfect!

  • How do I enable Find My Mac from a Standard User Account

    Hi there,
I'm trying to enable Find My Mac from a Standard User account via System Preferences > iCloud, but it says Administrator authorization is required. However, there is no padlock like other System Preferences panes have to enable Administrator access.
If I log into the Administrator user, it doesn't have iCloud set up.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Yes, Its registered. clcking on icloud shows Icloud is unticked and no option to enable it as its greyed out. That is the part I am trying to overcome. Also It shows "recovery system update required" just below find my mac and an update button next to that. When I then click on update, it says system up to date. I have been told this issue could be attributed to Filevault. I disabled Filevault (after 5 hours of waiting), Doing so now meant I was able to enable guest user on this machine. but that  means my data is not encrypted and the option to enable find my mac still not available.
I am in the process of re-enabling filevault. Another 4 hours to go. So as you can see, I am really stuck.

  • Need my user account to have sysdba rights. Can't get it to work.

    Hi All,
I have installed sql developer and i don't know how to change my user account to have system rights. when i try to login as sysdba i keep getting errors. I have tried a tutorial, the one were you're suppose to create an hr account but I can't even create that either, i keep getting the same error.
I have un-installed sql developer twice and each time when I'm re-installing the software i never get the question to create a password for sys or sysdba, it seems that the old dll or ini file are still in the system. So, i just have access as default user and I might have missed the migration part when i first installed this thing. Any ideas? Do I need to download the enterprice manager in order to fix this (that will do it right?), or?? I have no clue at this point. Also, I was thinking that i should be able to change my user account manually somewhere in the orapassw doc. Is that an option? As you can tell im lost and i have a job deadline in the next couple of days, so please if anyone could take a look at my problem wood be wonderful and much appreciated.
    Thx

SYSDBA should never be used for anything other than backups and patching.
Which of these two activities do you think appropriate for a user account?
My answer is the same as Sybrand's. What you are asking is totally inappropriate.
Far better to tell us specifically which actions you wish to perform and we will
help you with the specific permissions you require.

  • Allow application installations and updates for standard user account

Good Afternoon. Is there a way to configure/allow standard, non-admin user accounts to have access to only install applications or update applications? Is there a group those user accounts can be added to via dscl or some other method? Appreciate any help/input. Ideally I would like to grant users this access/option without giving them full administrative rights. Thank you.

When you're prompted for the administrator password, take note of the requested right in the dialog box, download TextWrangler from the developer's website(not the Mac App Store), and use it to edit the /private/etc/authorization file so that those accounts have that right.

  • Enable Third Party Preference Panes for Standard User Account

I work as a Mac admin for a private school.
All of our Macs are imaged with two accounts, an Admin account (for tech support) and a standard user account (for faculty/staff/students).
One of our art rooms has Wacom tablets.
There is a Wacom preference pane in the "Other" section of System Preferences, which allows you to customize the sensitivity, etc of the stylus.
In the admin account, this preference pane is enable, in the standard user account, it's grayed out.
I would like to give the standard user account access to this preference pane, so each student can customize the Wacom to their liking.
I've tried everything I can think of, from changing the ownership and permissions of the preference pane in /Library/PreferencePanes to creating an identical folder with the preference pane in ~/Library. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

If this is retricted by policy there is not much you can do about it.
There are no settings to change on LPT ports.  COM have utilites that sett the settings.
At a command prompt type: MODE /?
Follow the instructions.  Only administrators can use this utility.  Only administrators can change hardware settings.
I recommend contacting your network admins for assistance in getting this done.  It cannot be done with a script.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • What is the difference between "Adiministrator" & "Standard" user accounts?

    Hi,
I was wondering what is the difference was between "Adiministrator" & "Standard" user accounts?
Is "Standard" more sucre for everyday use than "Administrator"?

An administrator has more latitude in taking actions that have potential for harming the computer intentionally or accidentally than a standard user. Also, an administrator has the power to enable the "root" user--the user who can do the most harm intentionally or accidentally. The less one knows about his or her computer and its environment the more important it is for the individual to run as a standard user. If one is running as a standard user, then he or she will have to take a time out, which allows a period of reflection, before actually taking potentially harmful action since to do so he or she would have to logout and back in.

  • How do I get firefox to up date from a standard user account....or at least tell me to log on as administrator and update?

I do almost all my work from a standard user account. Firefox neither automatically updates (as I set it to) or informs me an update is available.
How do I get Firefox to update automatically when I am logged on as a standard user....or at least tell me to switch to admin account and update?

Let me add a note to the developers: WE ARE ALL NOT ADMINISTRATORS!
Even on our own personal computers.
I claim that administrator accounts are for administering, or developing; not using. I wouldn't be an administrator for longer than is necessary than walk down the centre of a highway with my eyes closed.
I'll repeat: Mozilla really should prevent the 'Update' button showing to an ordinary user if it's not going to be possible to use it.

    Hi,
It seems that you know the group policy “Log on as a service” can achieve your goal, so I would like to confirm what do you want to ask?
If you do not know the path of the group policy “Log on as a service” in domain, you may expend Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security
Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Log on as a service in GPMC.

  • Can I have access to Standard Users accounts if I am an Administrator?

I run a department with 4 Mac minis.  Before today they all had a generic user and a common password.  Using ARD I could access all of them at any time.
Its been determined that we need to set up individual users on these machines.  If the individual user changes his password, I no longer have access to the machine.
All of the users are set up as Standard Users
I have an Administrator user on every machine.
Is there a way I can open my Admin user while they are logged in? Even in Curtain mode?
Is there a way, I can see and control their desktop without their password.
I need to install, update and make changes to software on these machines, but I want them to have passwords so they can keep their private company email on there.
    Any suggestions?
    Im running OS 10.9
The other macs are running 10.6.8
    all ARD versions are 3.5.4

Nevermind!  I fixed my own problem.
Delete the computers in ARD "All Computers"  (take note of the IP addresses first)
Go to the scanner and search for the IP address.
log in with the Administrator UN & PW.
    You now have access.

  • Cannot unmount disk from standard user account (bound to AD)

I have an intel iMac running 10.8.2 with problems unmounting disks. This isn't an issue from administrative accounts. However, any standard account requires authentication by an administrator to unmount a disk. I ran top while trying to unmount the disk and noticed that the daemon securityagent kept emerging. Unfortunately I can seem to modify any config or plist files to stop this prompt from happening. I need standard users to be able to mount and unmount disks from the machine. Here is what I've tried:
    Safe booting
    removing the plugin at /System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgentPlugins/DiskUnlock.bundle
Writing an Applescript running a diskutil command with administrator privileges (I'm sure the syntax was fine because it worked on a 10.7 machine)
    removing com.apple.unmountassistant.useragent.plist
    Disk Utility
I might be forgetting a step or two but that's about it. Any ideas?

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Could Spotlight or TM be running on those drives in that account?

  • How an Admin user log into a lock out standard user account?

I remember that I was able to override the access to the standard account user when the standard user has the screen lock out. This appear to be missing in Lion. Has anyone knows how to do this in Lion? Thanks.

From my personal experience I can say that at times, four folders (i guess Assets is one of them) somehow get left in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer folder.
I delete them and restart my system.. and reinstallation works fine. If that's the case with you, you can try it.
CS Cleaner tool might also help.
