Standby DB on Windows OS

When a windows server has to be restarted for OS upgrades (etc.), what guarantees that the Standby DB will startup in mount and recovery mode? I ahev checked the Windows registry and the ora_autostart registry key reads TRUE. All that says to me is that the OS will attempt to start the DB. What will prevent the DB from trying to open in read/write instead of mount recovery mode?

When I check group# in primary DB by using sql
SQL> select group# from v$log;
it shows me
GROUP#
1
2
3
When i run the same query on standby i am getting the same result
This means that standby is not accessing the standby redo log file
Can anyone help me in this matter

However before installing any Sigmatel driver after an OS installation you should follow this order of driver installation:
a. Install Dell Notebook System Software R154270 (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.
b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver 153997 (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.
c. Finally re-install the Sigmatel audio driver R158235 (click the + sign next to Audio).
Some v1500 users have reported that they had to "uninstall an unknown PCI device in Device manager first , then install the driver normally".
Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver.
A previous poster was able to get his audio working by following the above instructions more or less He said that after installing the Chipset driver he next uninstalled the unknown PCI device. He let Windows look for a new driver but he said he had to point it to the folder with the driver. Then he wrote, "Xp still said that an error occurred and the device may not work properly, but it did work fine and I also don't have a yellow question mark..." I know this is confusing.

Standby Mode in Windows via Boot Camp

So I'm running Windows XP SP2 via Boot Camp, and I've changed my power options so that my laptop doesn't go into standby mode unless I manually put it in there. However, at night, it seems to go into standby mode anyway because when I wake up its in standby mode. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.

Start recovery process on standby database after Windows reboot

Hi all,
I have a data guard configuration on Oracle 10.2.0.4 for Windows.
What I need is to mount and start recovery process automatically after Windows Server restart.
How can I do that ?

Computer goes on standby and crashes all open windows.

When my computer goes on standby, all open windows (word, chrome, excel) crash and reopen. Word appears with a solid orange or dark yellow. How can I stop this from happening?
It might happen most often when the screen is being projected during the work day.
This problem has only been occuring since I updated to Mavericks a few weeks ago.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Oracle11g heterogenous data guard Linux-ASM primary, Windows-Filesystem standby

Is it possible to setup a standby database on (Windows 64bit) OS filesystem with 32GB datafile limit that syncs with a primary database on (Linux 64bit) ASM that has datafiles that are larger than 32GB.
There is a Linux-ASM standby in place, this will be an additional standby, to be used as a reporting database using Oracle11g snapshot standby
I have used datapump to export-import from Linux-ASM to Windows-filesystem by precreating additional 32GB datafiles in the Windows database, the import works, it takes too long to import for a reporting database
it's not clear to me how to synchronize the new standby without using RMAN full or incremental backup-restores
Any suggestions or suggested document IDs are welcome!

Hi Drew,
Standby files have to be the same size/distribution as the primary - that can be differnet os, in ASM etc but they have to be the same number and size.
There are some ways to speed up import - parallel etc but in a big database there is always a lot of time lost in index building post data load.
How feasible is it to shrink the datafiles in wondows nack to 32GB......?
Can you set up ASM on windows?
You could use streams or something to replicate and keep the copy you created up to date rather than using physical standby?

S540 and Windows 8.1

Hi,
i unwrapped the new S540 (of my gf) yesterday and spent the evening setting it up: Installing 75 windows updates (after fixing it), updating to 8.2 and installing important software (like ExpressCache which wasn't active despite the m.2 ssd)
I saw that the Catalyst Control Center did not work and installed a new amd driver from the lenovo website. Looks like a lot of people made that mistake, too. Screen went black, reboot did not help, system recovery reported an arror and i had to restore the original OS.
After a night of sleep i am currently repeating the process and installing 8.1 at the moment.
And i am a bit worried that some support-sites mention "ThinkPad S440 & S540 doesn't support Windows 8.1" , e.g. on http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031946
What should I do now? Is the discrete graphics working without amd Catalyst Center? Or should i install a beta driver from amd.com?
One thing is for sure, first thing will be a full system backup. My start into the Lenovo Thinkpad world was not very encouraging...

On the amd website i downloaded "AMD Mobility Radeon™ Driver Verification Tool" which says it cannot be installed on my machine as "your computer contains no matching graphics adapter".
The current situation is not satisfactory, when I close the laptop cover it goes to standby, despite the windows energy settings set to "do nothing", after standby the screen stays black and you have to reboot.
I created a system restore point and will try the current beta driver, i have removed the driver from the device manager and uninstalled catalyst control center (which shows crash messages left and right anyhow).

At least we bought in in Germany via internet, that means we can return it within 14 days. I'll have to see what laptop we can buy instead, the S540 seemed quite perfect for the price tag we had in mind. I guess it won't be another Lenovo...

Safari with Windows Media Player cannot use PHP as filename/src/url

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with Windows Media Player 11
and Safari 3 public beta. In addition to being the absolute
slowest browser among MSIE, Firefox, Netscape, and Opera, the
Safari browser has two annoying WMP defects.
1) Even with WMP 11 installed, the code below for embedding
can use either the classid for WMP v6.4 or v7+ but Safari
(or rather it's plugin) always displays a v6.4 looking UI.
All other browsers display the media player using the v11 UI
2) Safari will not download the movie if the "filename" param
is a web url (e.g. getmovie.php?select=1234 ) rather than the
precise name of the movie file itself (e.g. "movie.wmv"). The
other browsers may differ in use of the param name="xxxx", where
xxxx is "filename" or "src" or "url" or "data" ... but Safari
will not work using any of these.
Has anyone successfully embedded a WMP object that uses the
URL as a PHP page (or other server-side script) ? I have already
my server-side PHP code that works perfectly for MSIE, Firefox,
Netscape, and opera. Safari is the only problem browser.

I have run into several issues pointing to what you are describing...
I fixed my Safari by installing the WMP plugin. I am able to view visualizations embedded into a webpage, one of which I created...I am able to view videos and so on.. Before I installed the plugin, All that would load is a place holder which looked like the old WMP and would not function properly. However this is what is displayed beside the media which is embedded.
I think that I got the plugin by going to the download page for Safari and looking for plugins. Funny thing was that the plugin that I installed was the one for Firefox on its site that nobody every installs because Firefox gets the plugin if you already have WMP11 installed. Anyway this should solve your problem...with most..
I have noticed just now that PHP served links or applications which launch in their own window and are protected by PHP script do work but still display a lack of functionality showing the Version 6.4 that you are speaking of. I checked it out using the KDGE Live Stream which opens another window, and displays version 11 properly ( in other browsers ), the link which is served is also protected and will close any media player that tries to play it on its own. It soley depends on the script which is coded into the page or window for the player. I can see this method as useful for a corporation as large and well advertised as ClearChannel Productions, because of the lack of bandwidth and cost to the company. Several sources do this and it winds up being an issue for the website administrator and designers to take care of, or update the script, or the person who has written the plugin, which could be from a number of resource; this particular instance would be the author of the WMP Plugin for Firefox.
For any other purpose though the plugin I mentioned above should get rid of ( MOST ) of that problem.

Problems While Creating A Oracle Instance In Windows 7

Prerequisite of Logical standby database ????

We have Oracle 10g database with two physical standby databases on windows 2003 server 64 bit. we was thinking of shifting physical standby database into logical standby database.
We also look at the oracle documentation, as the link below. As we also found tables without unique logical identifier in the primary database.

If you are sure that uniqueness is controlled by your application on thise tables than you can add this type of constraint.
As you see most of them are plan tables for individual users. if you dont need tje, you can skip transactions for those objects by DBMS_LOGSTDBY.SKIP

Problem creating standby database using RMAN

I am preparing standby database on Windows environment. For the same..
1. I have taken full database,archivelog and standby control file backup on primary database.
2.Backup pieces have been moved to standby server.
3.TNS configured on both the servers.
4.connected to target as well as auxiliary database and trying to create the standby database using the below command...

Can you please confirm if the directory E:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\AIRPRIM is existing on standby box and rman can write to that location (free space & permissions)

SAP DR Setup Primary and Standby on Different Widnows Domains

We need to setup a DR system for SAP using Oracle Standby Database, on this setup my DR servers is joined to a different Windows Domain...
For Oracle I know that there is no problem, but for SAP I also know that we going to have problem to start the CI on DR server because the Windows user on DR site has no permission to connect to DB and it doesnu2019t exist inside DB "OPSS$<DOMAIN\<SID>ADM and DB "OPSS$<DOMAIN\SAPSERVICE<SID>.
I managed to fix the problem to start the CI on Dr site by adding the "OPSS$<DOMAINB\<SID>ADM and DB "OPSS$<DOMAINB\SAPSERVICE<SID> into db, every thing looks ok , no errors.
I would like to know if someone else has experience on this scenario...?? any other option?
