Starrting apps as "services"

I have an application which I like to leave running in the background. I want it to start when I first boot up and when I resume from suspend/hibernate. This app isn't one of the services in /etc/rc.d (if it was, I'd just addit to my DAEMONS in my rc.conf).
Is there any way to treat this app as a daemon so that I can add it to rc.conf? Or, would it be better to edit startup/resume scripts? (I'm really not sure where these scripts are located, though)

There are a couple ways you can go about this:
1) If the app is an archlinux package, and it's one most people would likely want to have in the background as a service or daemon, then contact the package maintainer - it should have an /etc/rc.d entry, and the packager should probably add one.
2) If the app is self-compiled, or self-packaged, you can make your own /etc/rc.d script, based off one already existing, to run your app.
3) If you don't want to go to all that trouble, you can just edit /etc/rc.local and add
/path/to/my/service &

I want to buy an Apple TV for my grandchild so she can play content from her Ipad on her family's big screen TV. She has cable WiFi in her home does she need anything else beside the Apple TV. Also what is AirPlay. Is it an app, a service or a seperate hardware from the Apple TV?

Airplay is a wireless streaming protocol. It allows content to be pushed from the iPad through the Apple TV onto your connected HDTV.
If she wants to see the iPad displayed on the big screen and/or play games that involves mirroring. As long as it's an iPad 2 (or later) then you will be fine. More info on both has been referened below

  • Fusion Apps web service call fails with error access denied (oracle.wsm.security.WSFunctionPermission)

    Hello Guru,
I am trying to call a supplier service from SOA/OSB.
But while calling the service it is failing with the below error message
    access denied (oracle.wsm.security.WSFunctionPermission http://xmlns.oracle.com/apps/prc/poz/suppliers/supplierService/SupplierService#getSupplierVO invoke)
As per OER cookbook i have attached the "oracle/wss_username_token_client_policy" to the Fusion  apps web service.
I am trying to pass security credentials to the service by using all the methods... through composite ..through bpel through wsse header but in all cases i am getting similar error.
Please let me know if some one has called the fusion apps web service to create a supplier of solution to my problem  as mentioned above.

    Hi Sai,
Thanks for the quick and correct response. Yes, after doing the research, I'm also came to same conclusion. But what stops me here is that where exactly I need to check for this permission.
I mean the theory what I built on this Authorization/Permission is that:
For the resource - WebService (SupplierService), there is an assigned application role for which the Entitlement/Permission is provided.
Pls. help me in the below items:
    a. What is the application role(in role hierarchy) assigned to this resource(Webservice). Which page I need to check(navigation) this and the required credentials..
    b. What is the Entitlement provided for this application role for this operation (getSupplierVO) invoke.. Which page I need to check(navigation) this and the required credentials..
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Dependencies on the App Management Service in SharePoint 2013

Looking for a listing of services or features in SharePoint 2013 that are dependent on the App Management Service Application being provisioned...
Anyone have a good list of what those are or could provide me one here? I want to make sure i'm not overlooking something as i weigh the pro's and con's of setting this service up.

I'm not aware of a list of other services that are dependant on the App Management service.
My understanding is there aren't other out of the box services that depend on it. Update: Good news, I'm wrong :)
The Hybrid topologies (Search, BCS, Duet) between SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Online do require the app management service so if you're condsidering these then you'll want to configure it.
If you're not using apps for SharePoint then you probably do not have a need to configure the service at this time.

  • Register Flex app as service

    Hello,
Is it possible to register Flex apps as services? And by that I mean - taking the example of Android - the app is closed, but still runs in background (not visible in Task Manager).
The reason I am asking is that if for example I want to have real time notifications, either events at certain times or location based things, I need the app to be "conscious" all the time but taking up as little resources as possible.
Also, setting it to start at system start and so on would be nice.
    Thank you.

As said in the last reply, you would have to extend air to implement notifications.
    http://www.jamesward.com/2011/05/11/extending-air-for-android/
It works well and it's not very hard to implement (copy paste)

  • Microsoft PowerPoint Web App - "The service is temporarily unavailable"

    Hi all,
I have had a problem with Office Web Apps/SharePoint 2010 now for over a week. When trying to access PowerPoint Presentations I receive the error:
I have looked through all of the Technet articles on this error and more, but still I have had no luck. The Excel and the Word viewer both work fine but this doesn't.
I have checked that the Word, Excel and PowerPoint services are running on the Web Front End Server and also on the Application Server. They are all using the "SharePoint Web Services Default" application pool which has dbcreator access to the
    content database.
I am receiving an error in the event logs:
This error reads: "A word or PowerPoint front end failed to communicate with backend machine...." the url then seems to vary between the front end server and the application server.
This exact same error is also appearing when checking in the ULS Logs. I have been working to repair this for days but I am out of ideas, all of the latest patches and CU's are installed on the servers.
I would massively appreciate any help given with this.

    Hi Adam,
Here is the link for Event ID 8011 for reference:

Please refer to the kb below for possible solutions:

In addition, you could try reset account password which is used to set up service application via:
Go to CA > security > configured managed accounts > modify > change the password now > use the current password > type password > OK.

  • Script to Stop/Start Oracle Apps windows services

    Hello,
I am trying to script 2 batch files, one to stop services and one to
    start services.
So far I have the folloing for the stop script:
    Stop services:
    set ORACLE_HOME=e:\oracle\<sid>ora\8.0.6
    set ORACLE_SID=<SID>
NET STOP "Oracle Reports Server [Rep60_HPP1]"
    NET STOP OracleApacheServerHPP1_spud
    NET STOP OracleFulfillmentServerHPP1_spud
    NET STOP OracleMetricsClientHPP1_spud
    NET STOP OracleMetricsServerHPP1_spud
    NET STOP OracleConcMgrHPP1_spud
    NET STOP OracleHPP1Ora806_1TNSListener80APPS_HPP1
However sometimes the concurrent manager fails to stop correctly and I
have to issue a 2nd command to forcefully shut it down. Does anyone
know how I can write this into my script? before it moves onto the
    Apps Listener?
    Any advise would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Sarah

The error we sometimes get is that the concurrent manager was unable to stop we have to then use the following command to shut them down:
CONCSUB.EXE APPS/appspassword@PROD SYSADMIN "System Administrator" SYSADMIN WAIT=Y CONCURRENT FND ABORT
I was trying to use net stop in the script and if this didn't work, the script would issue the command above.
    Thank you

  • R12 - Apps & DB services

    Hi,
Can anybody let me know the steps to start DB and APPS services in R12 installed on OEL5?
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Database Tier Scripts in R12
For Database tier you need to start database and database listener. Scripts are located in
    Database_Install_Dir/db/tech_st/10.2.0/appsutil/scripts/$CONTEXT_NAME
    - For Database
    Use script addbctl.sh
    - For Database Listener
    Use script addlnctl.sh
    or alternatively you can use
lsnrctl startstop listener_name (For Database Listener)
    sqlplus “/as sysdba”
    SQL> startup shutdown immediate
    Middle/Application Tier Scripts in R12
Scripts for Application Tier services in R12 are located in “
    Install_base/inst/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/admin/scripts“
where CONTEXT_NAME is of format SID_HOSTNAME
    i) adstrtal.sh
Master script to start all components/services of middle tier or application tier. This script will use Service Control API to start all services which are enabled after checking them in context file (SID_HOSTNAME.xml or CONTEXT_NAME.xml)
    ii) adstpall.sh
Master script to stop all components/services of middle tier or application tier.
    iii) adalnctl.sh
Script to start / stop apps listener (FNDFS and FNDFS). This listener will file will be in 10.1.2 ORACLE_HOME (i.e. Forms & Reports Home)
listener.ora file will be in $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/ora/10.1.2/network/admin directory
Mostly similar to one in 11i with only change in ORACLE_HOME i.e. from 8.0.6 to 10.1.2
    iv) adapcctl.sh
Script to start/stop Web Server or Oracle HTTP Server. This script uses opmn (Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server) with syntax similar to opmnctl [startstop]proc ohs
    like
    opmnctl stopproc ohs
(In 11i this script directly used to call apachectl executable but now calls opmnctl which in turn calls apachectl. In 11i web server oracle home was 1.0.2.2.2 but in R12 its 10.1.3)
    v) adcmctl.sh
Script to start / stop concurrent manager, Similar to one in 11i. (This script in turn calls startmgr.sh )
    vi) adformsctl.sh
Script to start / stop Forms OC4J from 10.1.3 Oracle_Home. This script will also use opmnctl to start/stop Forms OC4J like
    opmnctl stopproc type=oc4j instancename=forms
    vii) adformsrvctl.sh
This script is used only if you wish to start forms in socket mode. Default forms connect method in R12 is servlet.
If started this will start frmsrv executable from 10.1.2 Oracle_Home in Apps R12
    viii) adoacorectl.sh
This script will start/stop oacore OC4J in 10.1.3 Oracle_Home. This scripts will also use opmnctl (similar to adapcctl & adformsctl) to start oacore instance of OC4J like
    opmnctl startproc type=oc4j instancename=oacore
    ix) adoafmctl.sh
This script will start/stop oafm OC4J in 10.1.3 Oracle_Home. This scripts will also use opmnctl (similar to above) to start oacore instance of OC4J like
    opmnctl startproc type=oc4j instancename=oafm
    x) adopmnctl.sh
This script will start/stop opmn service in 10.1.3 Oracle_Home. opmn will control all services in 10.1.3 Oracle_Home like web server or various oc4j instances. If any services are stopped abnormally opmn will/should start them automatically.
    xi) jtffmctl.sh
This script will be used to start/stop one to one fulfilment server.
    xii) mwactl.sh
To start / stop mwa telnet server where mwa is mobile application.
Log File Location for Startup Shutdown Services in R12
Log files for startup/shutdown scripts for application/mid tier in R12 are in $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/logs/appl/admin/log
    (adalnctl.txt, adapcctl.txt, adcmctl.txt, adformsctl.txt, adoacorectl.txt, adoafmctl.txt, adopmnctl.txt, adstrtal.log, jtffmctl.txt

  • Opening multiple selected files in an app via Services

I have a simple service that opens a file in an app that renames the file.  (the app was created with A Better Finder Rename)  It works when a single file is selected, but if I select multiple files it only renames the last file that was selected and ignores the rest.
How can I get it to open all of the selected files in one go?  If I drag a bunch of selected files onto the app, it renames all of them as expected.  That's the behavior I want from the Service.
This is what the service looks like in Automator:

Remove the "Open Finder Items" action
    Add the "Run AppleScript" action
Clear all the text in this action, and put this script in the action :
    on run {input}
        try
tell application "Movie Files" to open input

  • Apex app - Web service

Can we create a web service using APex application.
I have tried calling other web services from apex, but was just curious to know if we can create a web service that other applications can call from their apps?

    knut,
The 11g Native Web Services is a nice option.
If your application's logic is contained in stored procedures or packages,
then you can expose it as web services without writing any extra code.
It's good re-use. Call the procedures directly in Apex, or as web services from other environments.

  • App-V service hang - monitoring options

    Hello,
Sometimes the Application Management Service hang and users are unable to launch applications.
This hang is not picked up by monitoring the service, because it has status running.
Are there event logs or anything else I can monitor to pick up these hangs?

It could be done automatically, powershell has some capapbilities to get entries from files and event viewer; however the challenge is to identify an issue the right way.
As a starting point you should check the event log and/or log file manually to see if there are certain errors poping up frequenctly before your service hangs; then you could script an alert that for instance fires a mail or whatever when error XYZ appeard
3 times in a minute on a server and run that as a scheduled tasks.
For System Center Operations Manager there is an Management Pack for App-V 4 available, but I'm not sure how 'good' it is and if it can be used as a baseline for other monitoring solutions:
SCOM Managamenet Pack for App-V 4

  • Bb app world service plan error

Ok so i have just got a new bold 9900 and i cant use any apps or app world, bbm works fine and internet and email, i have re installed app world and have all latest os please can anyone help

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then can you expand on what exactly happens when you try? "cant use any apps or app world" doesn't really give us much to go on...
Also, what version of AW do you have installed? 3.1.2.32 is current.
Also, did you initially log into your BB ID when you were originally configuring your BB?
