Start button for DAQ Assistant doing pulse generation

Hi,
I am new to Labview, and I got the USB 6210.
I used the DAQ assistant and selected ctr0 to create a pulse.
This works fine, but the pulse is generated when you run the program.
I want it so that when you press a button, the pulse generation starts. Then when you press the button again, it offs.
How would you do this, I dont see any 'data' input anywhere on the DAQ Assistant. Please help.
Also, I was wondering how to change the digital output line where the pulse will output. Currently it comes out the first D/O line. USB6210 has 4 digital outs, how do I change the output line.
In DAQ assistant, all i see are two choices for pulse, crt0 and crt1 (USB 6210 has 2 counters).
Again I am just learning, thanks for any replies

Hi,
I’m using NIUSB 6218 to acquire measurements from 16 (Ai16-Ai31) displacement sensors and 16 (Ai0-ai15) from ultrasonic sensors. These sensors are activated alternately which means when acquiring data from the ultrasonic sensors the displacement sensors are deactivated. For ultrasonic scan contains 16 channel x 16  samples  then it will followed by displacement sensors also 16 channels x 16 samples. The acquisition samples are controlled by the trigger signal (rising edge) from the PIC. The whole system is using external clock from the PIC 20MHz. I’m planning to insert START and STOP button on the front panel. The assignment of the pin is as follows:
PFI0- Trigger signal (acquiring data) from PIC.
PFI1- BURST signal from PIC (send all (16x16) acquired data to be displayed/save into spreadsheet file.
            PFI4- START signal to PIC
            PFI5- STOP signal to PIC
So far my VI works when I applied external trigger signal at PFI0. The VI can sample the data but how to inform the PIC that the 16 sample data has been acquired? My problem is I do not know how to combine all these functions (START/STOP/BURST) into my VI. Attached is my sample of the VI which I’m working on. Please advice.
TQ

  • Input of DAQ assistant does not initialize soon enough

    Dear all,
We are trying to generate an analog voltage output with the NI 9263 and then read that as an analog input with the NI 9215 as part of an academic exercise. Both of these are on board the NI cDAQ-9174 (compact DAQ). An analog waveform is generated within Labview (either a sine, square, or constant), and that signal is fed into the DAQ assistant to make an analog output.
From there, wires connect the 9263 output into the 9215 input. A second DAQ assistant is used to acquire that input voltage from the 9215.
The problem occurs when the waveform generated voltage and voltage input are printed on a waveform graph. The input signal for the sine and square waves occurs before the waveform generation signal (i.e., the input is phase shifted to the left instead of to the right, as we would expect due to latency).
We believe the problem occurs because the waveform is being output before the input has had a chance to initialize and start recording measurements.
Is there a way to initialize the DAQ assistant and start taking measurements before the output is generated? Or is there a way to determine the absolute time of each so that we can plot them in absolute time?
Thank you for any help you can give.

I tried cleaning up the program as best I could. I'm sure you can tell I am new with LabView. Thanks for taking a look even though it was so messy.
The problem we are having now is that the input data lags the output data by anywhere from 30-50 ms, which seems like far too large a delay. This is when I turn the Waveform Graph to "Ignore Time Stamp". Because the generated output voltage is graphed from the waveform generator, it seems to take a while for it to progress through the program and through the hardware, thus the input voltage graph lags.
When I turn the Waveform Graph to not "Ignore Time Stamp," the signal from the waveform generator occurs in the year 1903. I've tried searching on how to change this to the current time, but I can't seem to find a way to do that, despite plenty of other people wondering about this. Is there a way to do this so we can know the time at which the generated waveform signal is actually sent to the output DAQ assistant?

  • How to use an external start button for 6024E w/ sc-2345, I would like it to function like a start button in LabView but I don't know how to connect the external button to the sc-2345's connector block

I am confused as to how to connect my external start botton. I would like it to function like a start button on a front panel of a VI. I would like to use the +5V on pin 14 but I really don't know where to go from here. Any guidence for a novice would be most appreciated.

    phod,
This is the LabVIEW Real-Time forum, so I suggest that in the future that you post this type of question to the Multifunction DAQ forum.
For the simplest solution you will have to connect your button to a digital line of your board, consult the sc-2345 user manual for a diagram of where these lines are exposed. You will have to connect your start button in series with a line that is high, such as your 5V pin or another digital line. Then connect this to a digital line that will be your start trigger.
Your program can poll the digital line that is connected to your button in a while loop and when it goes high, it lets the rest of the program execute. For the programming, I suggest you take a look at the shipping examples that come with LabVIEW. If yo
u have LabVIEW 7.0 go to Help>>Find Examples. Open Hardware Input Output>>Traditional DAQ>>Digital Input and Output>>E Series for some examples of digital I/O programming with E-series boards.
    Hope that gets you started.

  • ITunes 10.6.1 Update button for iOS update does not work (a bug)

iTunes 10.6.1 Update button on iOS device Summary / Version page does not update devices. It only checks the iTunes version!
With iTunes 10.6.1, connect an iPad, iPhone, iPod running pre-6 iOS version.
On iPad Summary / Version page, next to  [Update] button the message says:
"A newer version of the iPad software is available (version 6.0). To update your iPad with the latest software, click Update."
However, clicking the [Update] button will not start update iPad. Instead it gives you a dialog saying:
"This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version".
Obviously it should start updating the i-device there but instead just goes and check the iTunes version ?!?
    A Bug!
What's really annoying in this bug is that it's the only way to update pre iOS 5.x devices, which is now impossible!
Apple should get this fixed asap!
    Anyone found any workarounds?
[Edit]: There seems to be another discussion of this issue already:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19671173#19671173

Just forgot to add, yes, I know there's iTunes 10.7 but it's only available on Snow Leopard and higher.
The machine in question is an old macbook, running Leopard (10.5.8), that it will propably never get upgraded.
Since most  my older i-devices were initially synced with that particular machine, I'll be now stuck with iOS updates, without loosing content.

  • Hello, Is there an easy way of understanding what menu language means before you press the button, for instance, DUPLICATE, does it mean delete duplicates or form them? Cyfrommayo

    Thanks Guys,
Yes, SAVE AS makes sense now you have illustrated it. Would an opportunity to rename the copy file have been a good idea? Additionally, a place to save the copy, something like the old PC way?
I got to this question, because of another incident which ended up with many duplicates, the help files did not know what the question DELETE DUPLICATE was? I have therefore ended up deleting individual duplicate files as a 'work around'. The learning curve hey.

  • Daq assistant vi for trial version

Hi guys. I didn't find daq assistant express vi in labview 2009 trial version. I want to use this after analogue device simulation in MAX for various analogue signals. Can anybody please send me vi template code for daq assistant.
    Many thanks for your support.

    Hey Guys,
Ravens Fan is absolutely correct. When you install DAQmx, not only will it install drivers for all NI DAQ devices it will also install support for any NI application development enviroments you may have installed - including LabVIEW. (Note: it is therefore important to install DAQmx after you have installed LabVIEW).
The following link takes you to a location where you can download the latest version of DAQmx.
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1444/lang/en
Not that is a fairly large file, so you may want to download it over night.

  • Recipe Management Using State Machines and DAQ Assistants

I am writing LabVIEW code to control a conversion process for up to 4 devices on one apparatus.
The operator will select from these 4 devices which ones will go through a conversion process. Therefore - they can select some or all of the devices to go through the process.  The process is the same for all 4 devices. The difference between the 4 are the digital outputs used for the conversion process.
Clearly a state machine is applicable. However, I would like to "reuse" the process conversion code of the state machine by creating a separate recipe for each device and merely change the digital outputs (their physical location) for the device under conversion. Presently I have DAQ Assistants controlling digital ouputs for the conversion of one device. Is it possible to "reuse" the code by creating a recipe or a lookup table to reassign the DAQ Assistants to their proper physical location (the digital output lines) for the device under conversion?
I could - copy and paste the code, go into the process and reassign every DAQ Assistant to the correct physical channel of each digital output for the other 3 devices. I was curious if there was a more efficient way.
I see documentation online for recipes; however they are dated 2006. I thought there may be some updated examples.
    Using:
    LabVIEW 2011
    cDAQ-9188 chassis

    Hi MgDAQ,
DAQ Assistant is a quick way to start acquiring data, however it's not the most efficient.
Everything that DAQ Assistant does can be acompished with basic DAQ functions on the
Measurement I/O -> NI-DAQmx pallete. For example, you can use DAQmx-Create Channel.vi and
a Channel Constant to select the channel from which you want to acquire data.
To get started with using the DAQmx functions you can browse through Hardware I/O examples in the Example Finder.
Open up a new LabVIEW VI and then go to Help -> Find Examples -> Hardware Input and Output [folder] -> DAQmx -> Digital Measurements
Now, as you probably know, copying and pasting code is inefficient and it's not a good programming practice. So what I would do is create the code for your conversion process and then simply change the channel constant to read the digital output you need.

  • Analog start trigger for x series card gives an error?

    Hi everyone,
I am having some trouble setting up an analog start trigger for DAQ using an x series PCIe card (6351)... Attached is my configuration... After reading the manual (http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/08B4B2E1B5373B94862579BA006E6BAB), my understanding is that AFPI0 is a compatable analog trigger for the device; however, the vi will not run and I get an error... Although if I change the soruce to "Force" (which is ai0) it works..
Also, the device document says (pg 11-8):
"To improve trigger accuracy, do the following:
    • Use an AI channel (with a small input range) instead of APFI <0,1> as your trigger source. The DAQ device does not amplify the APFI <0, 1> signals. When using an AI channel, the NI-PGIA amplifies the AI channel signal before driving the analog trigger circuitry. If you configure the AI channel to have a small input range,"
To me, this implies that I probably should use "Force" as the trigger soruce anyway (note that the instrunment is used to acquire data load cell data generated from human muscle contractions; so slew rates are relatively low compared to signals acquired from industrial tests).
Could someone please comment on these issues for me?

Ok... I think I have answered by own question... APFI0 needs a low impedence signal to drive the terminal... I mistakenly thought this was an internal terminal or trigger...
So I should stick with using the first analog signal acquired in my DAQ device (e.g. ai0) as the trigger source?

  • The created start button in my Vi doesn't react to a command

I have created two sequences ( sequence 0 for electric engine control and sequence 1(including start button) for start measure and saving). The problem is that you have to pull the start button at least one or two seconds until it reacts to the command.

Your VI is busy doing something else (for "at least one or two seconds") until it gets around to acting on the Start button. Do you have some loops with long delays? Do you have VIs before the Start action that take a long time to run?
If you want the Start action to happen before other functions in your program, you may need to restructure your program.
When you say "you have to pull the start button at least one or two seconds" do you mean you have to press and hold the button? In that case, you might consider changing the mechanical action of the switch.
If you can post your VI and give a more detailed description of what you're trying to do, it may show the details needed to solve your problem.

  • Calibrating DAQ Assistant

Let's say that I take a signal from my MPX4015A and measure it with analog input 3 on my DAQ board.  I go to DAQ assistant and find the previously-configured scaling for my MPX4015A to convert the voltage signal directly to kiloPascals.
Now, how do I calibrate for a little bit of sensor inaccuracy?  I can go ahead and create tons of custom scalings, but it seems like there should be a little extra field that lets you calibrate the sensors using a certain measurement.

    Hello bmunden,
I am unfamilar with the MPX4015A  sensor. I tried looking for a data sheet for this device and was unable to find any information on it when I did a Google search.
What does this device do? Does it measure pressure and then output a small voltage? Does this device measure sound pressure or physical load pressure?
DAQ assistant does have the something called the Virtual Channel Calibration, refer to the following link.
    NI-DAQmx Virtual Channel Calibration
Please give this a try and let me know if this resolved your issue. Else please clarify and I'd be glad to assist you.

  • Use picture as start button.

I have a company logo that I would like to use as the start button for my program.  I tried to hide an "OK" button and place the picture over the button, but then I can't work the button at all.  I made the button visable and put the logo on top of the button, but then I can only work the button using the enter key.  I'd like to be able to click the logo (button) or press enter to start the program, but I can't seem to get LabVIEW to let me do both.  It might be acceptable to have the start button appear whenever I move the pointer over the logo, but I definitely don't know how to configure a button to do that.  Can anyone help me?

Have you tried to make the button transparent, and put the button on top of the logo ?

    Hallo!
    I have a MacBookPro 15"/ 2,66 GHz/ Intel i7 (before upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9.x was installed):
It was always possible to press the start button for about 1 second and this opened a popup where you could chosse "shut down", "sleep" or "cancle". After the upgrade to Mavericks this function doesn't work any more. When I press the start button the MBP goes into the sleep mode.
Any idea what happened to this feature?
    Thanks

The feature is still there, but the power button function changed with Mavericks to be like this:
one-click = put the machine to sleep
click and hold (3 secs) = display shutdown dialog box
click and hold (10 secs) = hard power off
