Starting BPM from Adobe PDF?

Hi everyone,
we want to implement a BPM scenario, which will be started by a WS call from an Adobe PDF file. Following is our development procedure:
1. Create a wsdl file, which has only input parameter. (asynchronous call).
2. Create a bpm with a start event, whose trigger is the wsdl file from step 1.
3. Deploy the bpm and configure all the service groups. Test the bpm and find out it can be started with a webservice call.
4. Create an xdp file using the wsdl file from ce as data connection. (this wsdl file is not from step 1, but the one with endpoint configuration from ce)
5. create pdf file from xdp and call the bpm, but failed.
Our questions are:
1. is it possible to start a bpm from a pdf form using ws?
2. if 1 is true, how can we do that?

Hi Xiang,
One more information, currently "Starting BPM From Online Adobe is supported". You have to invoke the WSDL as you do for any other online application like webdynpro.
But invoking from Adobe makes sense only if it is done via offiline form (sent through mail). For this functionality you have to wait till release of 7.3.

Most printing issues are solved by resetting the Printing preferences. When you print from Firefox and you click on the down arrow, do you see Defualt and Firefox? Please make changes to the preferences here and preview the document.

Start process from emailed pdf form

I've set up a process with an email endpoint that has two steps:
1. set value (which does nothing)
2. User task which sends a pdf form to a user.
the idea is that when a pdf form is mailed to the specified mail account the process starts and sends the pdf to the correct user which then is supposed to review the form and approve it or decline it.
The process starts correctly on receiving the mail, and the pdf form is attached to the task but it doesn't contain the data that the user had entered before submission, it's empty.
I've tried submitting the form in all possible formats xml,xdp,pdf, and I've tried changing the type of the process variable, from xfaForm to Document Form, to Document, but I either end up with an empty form, or I get an error when trying to open the form associated with the process task.
does anyone has a simple example of how to accomplish this?
I know I am probably making some stupid mistake but for the life of me I can't figure out where the problem is.

PDF Pack has nothing to do with printing. That continues to be part of Adobe Reader and is not affected by it.

I think mobile functions ar part of Creative Cloud (Student) with respect to Acrobat Pro XI module: e.g. PDF conversion
I have contacted Adobe Chat already and shall now contact this forum as very next step.
However, my Reader App does not support PDF conversion any more since Adobe PDF Pack licence has expired but still a Creative Cloud licence is in effect.

I can no longer print with Firefox or from adobe pdf

Since installing latest Firefox, I can not print to my hp color laserjet 2600n. I also cannot print pdf files. I can print files from Open Office. Ran both windows and HP troubleshooters with out joy. Cannot print from Picasa, can print from Windows photo viewer.

Start BPM from WDJ with Web Service (in 7.2)

I created a BPM process, and a new WDJ application to start the BPM process.
In the WDJ application, I created a new model (adaptive web service model) and I added this to the 'Used Models' of the application.
But, now, I want to start my BPM process after I click the "Submit" button. How can I do this?
In my RequestModel, I have my Model class with:
- ServiceData
- Request_StartOperation
- Response_StartOperation
(and my data element fields)
- Request_wbs
- Request_wbs_ca
- Request_wbs_tr
Now my question, How can i trigger the web service in the WDJ so the process can start?

You need to create an instance of Request_StartOperation and assign the values to the nodes/attributes under this. Once all the assignments are done, you need to bind it and execute the model as below example shows:
Lets take the model structure as below:
Model1 -> Request_StartOp -> StartOp -> Node1
Node1 -> Attr1, Attr2 (Node1 contains 2 attr and the type in WS schma is Node1Type and cardinality 1.1)
Model1 objModel = new Model1();
Request_STartOp objReq = new Request_StartOp(objModel);
StartOp objStart = new StartOp(objModel);
Node1Type objNode1 = new Node1Type(objModel);
objNode1.setAttr1(val1);
objNode1.setAttr2(val2);
objStartOp.setNode1(objNode1);
objReq.setStartOp(objStartOp);

I have an error message that just started which is preventing me from printing to PDF.
Invalid "Adobe PDF" printer properties
Do not change spooler settings.
Please select "Print directly to the printer" option (from Adobe PDF
printer properties "Advanced" tab).
Prior to this error message I was able to print to PDF
I have checked for updates and I have the latest updates installed.
I have changed to "print directly to printer" and nothing happens. No error message but also no PDF file. The status shows "Error - Printing".

Find the Acrobat Printer in Printers
Right click on it and select properties
Then the Advanced tab
Is Spool Print Documents selected?
If so, Deselect, Enable Advanced Printing Features

Unable to "print" using Adobe PDF ... spooler issue?

I get the following message when trying to create a PDF file from any of my programs.
I've got Vista OS.
"Invalid Adobe PDF printer properties.
Do not change spooler settings.
Please select "Print directly to the printer" option (from Adobe PDF printer properties "Advanced" tab.)
I have not been able to locate the Print Directly option.
Am not sure how to rectify this problem.

The change is made in settings for the Adobe PDF "printer" in Vista.
In Vista
Go to "Control Panel"
    Choose "Printers"
      Right click on "Adove PDF"
        Choose "Properties"
          Choose "Advanced" tab
            Choose "Print directly to the printer"
              Click on "Apply"
                Click on "OK"

Make Adobe PDF (Print) the default choice

Just recently the default setting when exporting a .pdf from InDesign has switched from Adobe PDF (Print) to Adobe PDF (Interactive). Is there any way to switch the default to be Adobe PDF (Print)? This is a very annoying default if you frequently create .pdfs from books.

Other than the inconvenience of having to reset things (and losing custom presets, if you have any), it won't hurt to try trashing the prefs and rebuilding them. See Replace Your Preferences which includes how to back up those custom presets for easy loading later.

Print/Create Adobe pdf problems

I have always been able to create a pdf of any page that I was viewing on the web or on Microsoft word. I tried it again today and I am getting an error message. I print the page and select the Adobe pdf as the printer. Normally, it would ask me to rename it and to select the location I would like it saved. I am now getting a message saying "Invalid Adobe pdf printer properties, Do not change spooler settings. Please select Print directly to the printer option from the Advanced window." I never changed my options so I am not sure why this would pop up suddenly. I even try to change the setting like the message said but this ends up doing nothing but giving me an error message by the printer icon on the bottom of my screen. What can I do?

Find the Acrobat printer in Printers.
Right click on it and select Properties then the Advanced Tab.
For me, "Spool print documents..." was selected.
The Fix: Deselect "Enable advanced printing features".
Click OK.

Extract the Attachment data from Adobe Reader 8

From the discussion i understand we can get the name and size of the attachment using dataobjects. But i need the content of the attachment. Let me know if there is any code to extract the attachment data.

You can read the contents of an attached file using the doc.getDataObjectContents method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.475.html
You'll just have to parse the contents correctly using JavaScript.

CANNOT PRINT FROM ADOBE 8.1.2 PDF FILE TO OLIVETTI ANYWAY

Hi I have had this problem before wiht a laserjet printer and cannot remember how I have solved it.
I am on a Macbook pro running leopard OS 10.5.2 and trying to print a standard pdf from Adobe Acrobat Professional Reader 8.1.2 to an olivetti anyway. I have no other probs printing,and can print this same pdf through preview, but the fonts default.
It goes through as if it is printing then in the printer set up it just stops itself and won't print.
Any ideas?

I did download new drivers, but the situation gets even more interesting. It is only one file I can't print. I print .pdf files from a particular website quite often. When I started having problems with this one file - I just got stuck there. Well, I went to some of the other "new" pdf files and was able to print those. I still cannot print one particular page. I have tried downloading the file to my hard drive but still could not print. I have decided there is some code in this particular file that my printer cannot compute. I did manage to get it printed in B/W on an HP laser printer. Just is a weird glitch. Thanks for responding.
