Starting off - javac not recognized

ok firstly im a newb, 1st day learning java in uni.
we made that "Hello World!" thing at uni and id thought id try it out at home
ive done everything and when i go to compile my .java file with javac it says 'javac not recognized'
i then realised i haven't got java installed, so i downloaded and installed
the Java SE Development Kit 6 Update 5
Download Now! Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language      jdk-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe      71.39 MB
so i restarted my PC and then tried it again, again javac doesn't seem to work
have i downloaded the wrong installation? if so which one should i have downloaded
i have XP and Vista 32bit a PC and a laptop
thanks

Maybe you forgot to add the bin folder in the class path....
Right-click My Computer, got to Properties....
Click the Advanced tab, Click Environment Variables....
Under the System Variables,
Click path and edit.
For example, i have
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbe
You can add the jdk bin folder path... Just put a semicolon before Wbe
For example, you installed the jdk @ D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin...
Now you have
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbe;D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin
Save and done....
Update us if you still have a problem about it....
kind regards,
sukatoa

  • IPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes.  Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store.  Nothing works.  This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.

Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out

  • Javac not recognized

    Here's the problem:
I have been using JDK 1.3.1_02 for some time with no problem. I could compile and run the file through emacs or a command prompt.
So, I've shutdown my computer and when I restart and attempt to comile, I get the infamous "javac not recognized as a command ..." So, I am stumped.
My path is set correctly. I run Win XP(FYI). It will not compile through emacs or a command prompt now so I know it isn't emacs' fault. I theorize that it may have something to do with the Java Console Plugin b/c I can Run the program, but not compile. javaw.exe is in the jre for the Console, but javac.exe is not. Just my idea, but I don't know if that is it or how to fix it if it is. Please help if you can!

    a) try add YourJDKHome\bin into path variable in your environment variables
replace YourJDKHome with the actual JDK installation directory in your win xp, e.g. something like
    c:\JDK 1.3.1_02\
    b) or altanatively, before you run javac just key in:
    path=YourJDKHome\bin
remember to replace YourJDKHome with the actual JDK directory
Then you can try javac again to see the result

  • TS1538 iPod Touch with blank screen that doesn't shut off and not recognized by iTunes?

I opened the app "MyTown 2", and it stayed on the opening screen for about 5 minutes - WAYYY too long! So I tried to close the app. A slight grayscale sort of film "slid" down over the opening screen, and then it went to this light gray, completely blank screen. It's been that way for over an hour - no matter what I do, can't do a hard shut down, and the device is not recognized by iTunes at all. It's completely DEAD!!!! Is there any hope? Anyone have a clue?

Following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod Touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • Javac -help:  'javac' not recognized...why?

    hi all,
i just installed j2sdk1.4.0_02, but i have a problem. in the dos prompt, when i type C:\>javac -help, it results in a 'javac' is not recognized error. why?
my PATH enviroment variable is this:
    %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\ActivCard\ActivCard Gold\resources;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN;C:\j2sdk1.4.0_02\bin\javac.exe
    what am i doing wrong?
    thanks,
    jeff

Hi, I installe dthe sdk1.4.0 but have no
C:\j2sdk1.4.0_02 dir (or anything relating to java).
Did I not do something right? I can run the java
command but not javac. If you don't have a directory similar to j2sdk1.4.0_02 then you did something wrong. You can try to search your system for javac.exe. If you post the exact steps you went through, someone here may be able to
    help you.

  • My Iphone 5 will download the update in iTunes and start or is not recognized by the PC, Windows Vista???? Thanks in advance

Good, thank you in advance for help. My Iphone 5 agency was left red battery and asked me a software update from settings, the update could not begin, I think, because there was no connection. I turned off the device to get to recharge my house and arrest him and get me a stick in red appeared and requested connection and immediately connected it via the USB cable to the PC, Windows Vista, and no progress bar. However, the update Itunes asked me again and I put it to update. It lasted 84 minutes, but after the update, the iPhone does not recognize Itunes, and reload the pc or the USB cable or with direct current charger (connector Apple). No reboots, no catches, no sign of anything. Please help I do not know what I can do. Yesterday I went to an agency of the company and was told that if I put the phone to update and it was the battery I should take it to an authorized Apple Software I restored. I have searched and have not found tutorials how to update the software or relive the Iphone. I'm desperate and I can say that for the first time in my life, I doubt Apple continue or happen to competition. Please help me.

With iTunes open connect iPhone to the PC. In the Top Menu of iTunes at the end select Help, scroll down to near bottom, select "Run Diagnositics..."  Perform all the simple tests and follow the help.

  • Javac not recognized as a command

When I go to the directory where I saved my code and type "javac HelloWorld.java" into the windows command prompt, it says that such a command does not exist. I have JDK 6 update 13. I found javac.exe in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_13\bin. When I type javac there it shows something like a list of commands. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I finally found a good video that explained it. Now it compiled properly.
But for some reason the program itself does not work:
    class HelloWorld {
      public static void main (String args[]) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");

  • Ipad not recognized by itunes; apps shut off on ipad as soon as I open them

My ipad is not recognized in iTunes, when plugged into my computer. I can't back up or sync to my computer, but I have managed to back up to icloud, I think. Applications shut off within 20 seconds of opening them on my ipad. I think I need to reset my ipad but I'm just not getting that option when I plug it in to my computer and I'm worried about whether or not the icloud backup is sufficient. Thanks!

Try some basic troubleshooting before you restore your iPad.
First close all apps. In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that didn't help, try this. Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
IF you really feel that you need to restore, and maybe you will have to, try this for help with the device not being seen by iTunes.

Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
