Starting over after Hotsync User ID being changed without input from me!

I posted the following message in the Hotsynch section of these forums on Jan 1 and have not yet had an answer; since then the situation has changed, but I want to provide the original circumstances as background:
As far as I know -- with evidence in my data directories -- when I got my Tungsten I set it up with the user name "Wendy". A couple of days ago, when I got a handheld software registration code based on giving that to the software vendor as my user name, it would not work. When I investigated I found that the Hotsync User ID in my desktop software was "2008". Today, New Year's day, when I went to open another desktop component, SplashID, I found that all the data was gone. Lo and behold, when I went to do a restore, I found data folders for Wendy, 2008, and 2009! I then looked at the Palm desktop app and found that the Hotsync User ID there is now "2009"! Why is this happening and what can I do to nail down the user ID that I want?
Please note that I have also been suffering from periodic loss of my non-recurring calendar data. It seems to occur whenever an overnight Windows update takes place that causes my computer to reboot. Using the advice given in the posts responding to my previous message in these help forums, I have -- so far -- always been able to restore the data. I do not recall whether this and the change of hotsync user name started at the same time.
When I got no answer on the forum by the afternoon of Jan2, I sought help viaPalm's online chat. The person who helped me was very patient given the profusion and confusion of user names/IDs but ultimately when I had followed his instructions re deleting Palm Desktop 6.2.2, reinstalling it and synching, the synch just hangs on the databook synch. Since then I have done a clean uninstall according to the instructions for clean Vista uninstalls posted by cygnusX1 on 12-30-2008 04:06 PM in the thread "Syncs fine -- missing all data in Desktop App". The only thing that I did differently was to use the Windows uninstall process before I started manual deletions.
My current situation: I have no Palm Desktop software installed on my Vista PC although the desktop versions of some -- but not all of other Palm apps still work. I have a backup of the "Wendy" directory with Palm data stored on my Windows desktop. I have a Tungsten E2 with calendar, addressbook, memos, todos and data from two of the Splash apps and Diet Assistant. The current name on the handheld is "2008". I would like to end up with a Palm desktop and handheld with user name "Wendy". Any advice on how to proceed to that point with minimal data loss would be appreciated..

Regarding your "Wendy" backup, is this a backup from a version of Palm desktop prior to using Palm desktop 6.2? If it is, you will need to install the version you used with the "Wendy" username. After the install, copy the username folder into the Palm folder in c-programs-palm. Open Palm desktop and see if the data is there. If you are still having a problem, create the username "Wendy" in Palm desktop, delete the username on the handheld and then when you sync it will ask for the username to sync with, select "Wendy" and continue the sync.
You can erase the username on your handheld using the procedure in the following link;
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,t=ooccase,case=obj(24485)
After you go through this procedure, tap on hotsync on the handheld and in the upper right corner is the username assigned to the handheld. If the delete procedure was done correctly, there will be no username in the upper right corner. You can then sync to to Palm desktop and select the username to sync to.
If you have the data on the handheld, you may want to install Palm desktop, create the "Wendy" username in Palm desktop, erase the username on the handheld and then sync to Palm desktop.

Look on your handheld in hotsync and verify the hotsync name in the upper right corner. This is the name hotsync and Palm desktop usues to ID the handheld for sync'ing.
At this point, I am not sure what is causing the username to change.
Are you using Palm desktop 6.2? If you are then you need to close Palm desktop if you are not using it. If you leave it open during a system, virus, or any other type of update, it can cause loss of data. This usually occurs with Palm desktop 6.2.

  • What is the best way I should restore or start over after a complete meltdown and loss of files?

In May I moved all of my itunes content (movies, music, podcasts, app, books) to a networked attached storage device.  Long story short, recently I had problems with some content missing/being deleted.  Lacie, the hard drive mfg, told me the public share had become corrupted and I needed to delete it and start over.  Last night I appeared to have had a complete meltdown with the loss of most of my files, over 500gb of stuff.
Luckily it's backed up (but one backup is now about 2 weeks old) and it's going to take about 2 days to restore.  I have it restoring to my desktop folder on my imac.  I'm concerned about all of the itunes library folders and stuff that are out there.  I'd ultimately like to get it restored back to the external hard drive.
What is the best method?  I'm restoring just the content, not the various library files.  Should I uninstall Itunes and re-install it to try to start fresh, or just re-add the content?
I've already wasted a lot of time on this and I'm just looking to avoid more problems.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Anyone help with this?
I am restoring over 500gb to my local drive after a NAS was corrupted.  I'm very hesitant about putting stuff back out on the network drive again so i guess I may keep it on my local hard drive.  Currently, when I open itunes it has all of my old files remembered (just with exclamation points) and my playlists.  I'd love to keep that intact but point itunes to the correct files in a new location.
Is it as simple as going to preferences and changing the location of the itunes folder once I have it in place?

  • Printing multiple pages starts over after half a page

I can print a single page of my real estate flyer OK.
If I ask for multiple pages, half a page prints and the printer starts over.
I copied a screen shot of the PDF to Word using OneNote, and Word prints multiple copies just fine.
    OS: Windows 7 Pro 64
    Printer: Brother mfc-9560 CDW
Brother support says it's an adobe issue.
    Steps taken to resolve:
    Uninstalled Adobe Reader.
    Restarted PC
Downloaded Reader Version XI (11.0.06) from adobe.com.
Closed all windows, restarted PC, and installed the package.
Same results: first page starts printing, then only half a page prints and the printer starts over.
I get the same results no matter what PDF I try to print multiple copies of.
I tested it on a Samsung ML2510, and they print OK, although it's not a color printer.

That 'drag' resizing has only started with PSE12. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a feature, or a bug (in my view a bug).
    Copy/paste works.
You can drag the source file layer to the target image and it won't resize. If it's a many-layered image use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E to make a new combined layer in the source and drag that across.
You can drag from the source in the Edit window to the target in the Photo Bin without resizing.
One thing to be aware of is the image resolution. When preparing your source images if they are not all the same resolution their relative dimensions will change when you create your composite. As you intend to resize them individually within the composite this is not such a big deal, but it might save you some puzzlement knowing it in advance.
For resizing within the composite turn on the info window (use the F8 key) and you can see your individual image dimensions as you resize.

  • Play Queue Starting Over After The First 5 Songs

I've been having this issue since using Spotify connect  where I'll take a playlist with about 100 songs on it, shuffle it, then after it plays about the first 5 it starts over again at the first one it shuffled. This only ever happens on my andriod device. I noticed that the app does a lot of weird stuff when it's constantly being disconnected and reconnected to wifi whenever the device is in transit from point A to B. I don't get how this is an issue because I'm a Premium member so I have all my usual playlists downloaded for offline use.  This is another issue I brought up a few weeks ago regarding more of the app's bizzare behavior when it losses wifi:https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Android/Spotify-Lock-Screen-Controls-Disappearing/m-p/1162609This problem hasn't been asnwered yet either.

Okay, here's what I mean about the play queue starting over. Today I pused music using the in-line controls on my earphones, then 2 hours later I plugged them back in and resumed my music with the in-line controls (I never unlocked the screen during this process) and started flipping through tracks using the in-line controls while walking to the bus stop, and after I had flipped through about 7 tracks, the play queue repeated the first track it had resumed playback from. This screen shots shows a duplicate track in the play queue afer it had started over from the last resumed track. Note that I do not have duplicate tracks on this playlist.

  • Technician times being changed without notice

Has anyone else had a 4-7pm appointment with a technician being changed that is also having the night time slow download speed? My appointment was suppose to be 4-7 on friday and the only reason I found out was because we were having the same slow speed again last night and the supervisor said we will need to wait until the technician gets out there friday i see he is scheduled from 10-2... when the problem isn't happening. just curious if this is also an ongoing issue where they shuffle technicians to only make visits when the infrastructure can handle the speed test.

Unless you urge the technician to come 7-10pm, there's no guarantee you'll encounter the download speed drop. Let's say your appointment is set from 4-7. Even if they didn't move your appointment, the technician could just come in at 4pm and based on my experience the slow down doesn't start until 5:30pm-ish.
Oh, and you have to give'em a high five for coming early and on time. Bonus.
I've no idea how we can get this thing resolved.

  • FMLE Bug: Encoder changes video input from Composite to SVHS

I have a video signal on the Composite input of my video card and I am encoding using FMLECmd.exe
The problem is that when I change the video input to "Composite" using the Video Device's Property Pages,
FMLECmd.exe sets it back to SVideo again after it stops encoding.
So, before each encode I need to bring up the Property Pages go and change the input to "Composite" again.
How can I work around this FMLECmd bug, any ideas?
    Thanks.

FMLE saves Advance Device Property settings in profile file. When you change Input type to Comosite, make sure that you save a profile for that setting.
Next time when you start FMLECmd, start it with saved profile and it should work with Compsite input this time.
What you were doing is probably not closing FMLE after making changes in Device property page due to which settings are not getting saved in startup.xml profile and next time when FMLECmd starts with startup.xml by default it was loading prevoius settings having SVideo input.
So try closing FMLE GUI after changing device property page and then start FMLECmd with stratup.xml file or save these settings in some other proifle file and start FMLECmd with saved profile file
Let me know if this works for you?

  • Change tv input from s video to hdmi

Does anyone know if you can change the tv input from the s video cable to use the HDMI as input for watching TV on the Touchsmart 600-1050? The s video works ok but I thought that I read somewhere that you should be able to use the HDMI as an input source. So How do you change the tv tuner to use the HDMI instead of the S video cable? Thanks.
    This question was solved.

There is a toggle button on the back right above the HDMI port which allows to go back and forth.

  • Cant download LION on slow internet. Starts over after disconnection.

Currently deployed to Africa with USAF. Hard drive crashed on old white macbook. Installed new drive and reinstalled original Snow Leopard. Fully updated all software.
Went to app store to download Lion. I can download approx 1 GB per day on slow internet. Each time my laptop is disconnected from the internet and I reconnect later, Lion starts its download from ZERO.
I "pause" it and it says "780mb downloaded" etc.... I come back the next day and it starts all over again from zero bytes.
    Help!
I wouldn,t care so much being stuck with Snow Leopard, except my personal USB drive is encrypted with Lion so I cant access it right now.

Ok, after some more mucking about I have made some progress. By changing MTU to 100 I can get pages to load, albeit slowly. At least now I can post about this from my main box ;-).
I have noticed the following things:
    - With MTU 100 pages load, but my adsl broadband is about as slow as an old modem. I get about 1Kbps on ftp downloads. After ~200K the transfer stalls.
    - When using aMule i notice that my eth0 monitor (in superkaramba) indicates outward traffic of about 20 Kbps, eventhough aMule itself only indicates 5Kbps being transferred.
    - When I ping my router by doing "ping 192.168.0.1" I have about 10% packet loss. This does not happen on my laptop.
So, I'm stuck with the following questions:
    - Why does my internet grind to a halt when I use MTU>1000?
    - Why do my downloads halt after ~100K?
    - Where do I start looking for differences in my LAPTOP setup, which works fine, and my MAIN BOX, which does not?

  • Time machine started over after a complete restore, how to get to older?

Yesterday, photoshop and parrallels started crashing and I could not get them working, So I decided to do a complete system restore from install disk time machine from the day before when everything was working fine.
so it restored the system to its previous state. parrallels was still not working correctly so I restored the folder from a week or so ago. That didn't get it back either, so I thought of maybe reloading the application from an earlier time period might help.
But, time machine has started itself over. there is only backup data from this morning in the time machine internal backup drive. How do i get to my older backups? Do they just go away after a system restore?

    Sam,
No, you need to Ctrl-Click the Time Machine DOCK icon. Then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks...".
Here is a thought. When you did the restore, what Mac OS version did you restore. Your states say 10.5.5 but might your Mac have been restored to 10.5.4 or earlier with your restore?
I have found in my own testing, that since the 10.5.5 update, "Archive & Installs", "Erase & Installs", and "Restore System From Backup..." no longer trigger a new full backup. That is they continue to use the same backup set as before. (Note though, you will likely see a very large incremental backup, but not necessarily a new Full Backup set.) See my comments here:
If, however, you restored to a Mac OS version previous to 10.5.5, and then allowed Time Machine to perform a backup, then a new Full Backup would be preformed. Likely, you might be able to avoid this if you do the restore (prevent Time Machine from backing up), update to 10.5.5, then allow Time Machine to backup.
    Cheers!

  • Essbase cannot start up after the DB server IP changed.

    Hi,
My essbase is installed in server A and the DB server is in server B. For some reasons, the IP of DB Server (B) changed.
Then the essbase cannot startup. When run the StartUpEssbase.sh, no error shows up.

    Essbase 11
Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.
    Regards,

    Hi John,
We didn't use the name for DB configuration. We used the IP. So I changed the 2 files.
And very thanks for your information, I resolved the problem by the document you provided. Just as you said, it's no need to update the files.
Here briefs the case and the solution:
    Problem:
I used IP to config the DB server when setup the Essbase. But later, the IP of the DB server changed, the Essbase won't startup, either the administration services.
    Solution:
    1. Run the config tool (EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/config/version_numberconfigtool.sh) and change the DB server setting (fill the new IP for the db server, and choose 'reuse the database' when prompted)
After this step, the essbase could startup. But administration services couldn't
    2. Go to weblogic admin console (http://ip:7001/console). Edit the JDBC data source setting from old DB server to new one
After this step, the administration services could startup now.
