Startup OC4J with nohup

OC4J stop when the user logoff
I start OC4J using '$nohup java -jar orion.jar &', but when I log off,
, OC4J stop. Is possible to mantain OC4J running when this user does logoff ?
I started Oracle Reports Server with nohup, it works fine. The reports server
is always up even I logoff.
I attached the document from Oracle MetaLink.
PURPOSE
To show how to start OC4J as a background process on UNIX
How to Start OC4J on UNIX and Exit the Shell
This is important for some users since they would like to start the process
from a terminal and logout of that terminal after starting OC4J
Otherwise, when the user who started the process logsout, it kills the
OC4J process started by that user
TO start the OC4J as a background process using the following command:
$nohup java -jar orion.jar &

Hi Tom,
I am running OC4J (stand-alone) version 9.0.2.0.0 on a SUN Ultra-250
computer with Solaris 7 and JDK 1.3.1. My login shell is "tcsh"
(version 6.08.00). I have absolutely no trouble executing the command
that you claim to be having trouble with.
However, since you are using "orion.jar", you obviously don't have
the latest version of OC4J. Perhaps if you upgraded to the latest
version, your problem would resolve itself?
Good :uck,
Avi.

In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the menu bar via "View > Toolbars" or via the right click context menu on a toolbar.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the menu bar temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the menu bar or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

Already another rac database is running successfully on this machine through ASM. We are trying to use the same ASM instance for this single instance database. When I tried using dbca it was not reading the current ASM instance. Instead it was trying to create new instance. Thats y I was forced to create new DB manually.
Kindly help in resolving this issue.

With my MacBook Pro 17" with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz startup freeze with 10.6.8 - I had problems after several SW upgrades. Startup ends every time in a freeze or a crash, nothing is running, i am not able to type in the password. it starts in beginning with thin colored disrupting lines on the display and this get more and more and than freeze the system.
"Save Boot", startup with shift shows no problems, display is ok, no freeze. So something must new in the video-driver. Is there any driver what I can delete or any new software to help in this issue?

try to boot off the cd installazzione, when the screen appears to follow thePACKING screen viewing. If you've already looked in the manual are your problem?

  • Startup problem with Lion OS 10.7.3

Just recently, I've been experiencing a startup problem with Lion. I don't usually have any issues running my Mac, so I'm at a loss why this is happening now.
I have an Intel Mac Pro running 10.7.3. I usually leaving my Mac running all the time and only restart when the need arises. In addition to being my main computer, this mac alsocontrols a MacMini that serves as a music server thru screen sharing.
This past weekend, I restarted my Mac and could not get past the grey screen. The mac chimes, the apple logo appears with the spinning gear, the blue screen briefly appears, but instead of progressing to the desktop it reverts to the grey screen with a repeating cycle of the spinning gear appearing (spins for a while, stops, disappears, reppears spinning, stops, disappears, over and over) - never progressing beyond that stage.
I decided to reinstall the system and things have been fine for the past few days. Today, restarting again resulting in the same problem.
I've tried several things without success. I disconnected all peripherals, reset the PRAM/SMC, ran Disk Utility from a install volume and ran repair and permissions (no problems reported). Tried safe mode startup - a progress bar appeared but never fully progressed and could not get to the desktop.
Recent changes included updating the OS to 10.7.3 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 - no recent hardware changes. No bluetooth devices connected.
    Any thoughts? Thanks -

    Thanks -
I've reinstalled the OS today and am back up and running.
But, since this is twice this has happened within the past week, I'm worried about might be causing this issue - besides bad luck. My Mac is usually rock solid - can't remember the last time I've had to reinstall the OS in the past few generations of OS X.

When I'm using MapViewer Quick Start ( the second one in page ----http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/mapviewer/htdocs/winsoft.html), I cannot startup oc4j by clicking start.bat in Windows 2000, although I've modified relative path as:
    cd D:\mvqs10_1_2_0_2\oc4j\j2ee\home
    start %JAVA_HOME%\bin\java -server -Xmx384M -jar oc4j.jar
This just doesnot response anything. And another command in that readme.txt 'java -jar oc4j.jar -install' works, I did successfully set a login password.
    -- Thanks for reading this
I think this problem has been solved by getting rid of -server, so the above startup script should be cd D:\mvqs10_1_2_0_2\oc4j\j2ee\home
    start %JAVA_HOME%\bin\java -Xmx384M -jar oc4j.jar, and works.

  • Oracle Startup/Shutdown with SQLPLUS and ORADIM in Windows...

I am a newbie to the Windows platform. SQLPLUS will not allow me to issue a STARTUP command. This is what I get when I attempt to SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE and subsequently issue a STARTUP MOUNT/NOMOUNT or any STARTUP command for that matter. When I look at the Windows service, it still reports 'Started' despite the fact that I shutdown the instance. What is the proper protocol for shutting down and starting up an Oracle instance in Windows. Do I have to coordinate these activities with the ORADIM -STARTUP / -SHUTDOWN commands?

I am also newbie to oracle and running into the similar problem when trying to start oracle database using windows command prompt and getting the below error:
Command prompt is being run as administrator on windows7 O/S
C:\ORACLE\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>oradim -SHUTDOWN -SID O22BVGI -SHUTTYPE srvc, inst -SHUTMODE nornal
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
The reason behind this to do it is , I need a batch script for stopping and restarting the oracle database instance using a Pfile which will contain the initialization parameters.
    Please can someone help!
    sqlnet.ora is:

  • Logging Garbage collector for an OC4J with 2JVM

Hi, I have one OC4J with two JVM setted.
If I put -verbose:gc it logs in the std Output file.
I trying to log the garbage collector in two different file each one for one JVM.
    Anyone as an idea?

Don't create massive amounts garbage memory. It's that simple. You should try to limit the creation of memory inside your animation loop. If there is a process inside the loop that creates memory, there is definitely some way to create that item staticly, rather than allocating new memory with each iteration. There shouldn't be any kind of problem that would involve the creation of THIS much memory, and it's deallocation. If you read about how the garbage collector is implemented, you'll notice that it stores all of it's memory on a single conveyor belt. This is for ALL memory in the program. Therefor once the garbage collector has gone through and marked all of the memory that needs to be reclaimed, it performs it's sweep and must feeze the entire program because that conveyor belt can not be manipulated while it's re-arranging the memory. The garbage collector will eliminate MOST memory leaks, but it does not eliminate any thought on the part of the programmer about memory.

  • Configuring OC4J with webcache

    Hi All,
I have requirement of configuring OC4J with webcache.
I got an OC4J903 standalone server and webcache is seperately installed.
I am able to get the webchacheadmin screen and i am now stuck with how to go ahead.
    looking forward for help.
    thanks in advance,
    Sudha

I assume the Web Cache you have is the 9.0.2.0 standalone. First of all, patch your Web Cache 9.0.2.0 standalone to the latest level you can find on Metalink. This is currently 9.0.2.2bp1 (on Solaris).
(You can use Web Cache 9.0.2.x with OC4J 9.0.3.x.)
Next, follow the steps in the Oracle9iAS Web Cache Administration and Deployment Guide, accessible from OTN. Chapter 6 of this guide is a good place to start, although Parts I and II are useful in their entirety.
Your basic steps are going to be:
    - access the Web Cache Manager admin UI (hostname:4000 is the default); default uname/pwd is administrator/administrator
    - make sure Web Cache is listening on the desired port(s)
    - define a site
    - configure application web server settings (in this case, your OC4J standalone) from which to fetch fresh content
    - configure site-to-server mappings; you can map more than one application server to a site (enables load balancing)
    - configure caching, compression and expiration rules and/or modify your application to use ESI
    - don't forget to apply changes and restart
Still, I would really advise using the manual and online help to get started. It's easy once you grasp the concepts described in the manual.

This one should go to Sun.
Try OC4J with the VM installed with JDeveloper. Also, you might want to try 1.3.1_02 (just to see if that works on your machine)
