Statement.cancel() isn't working
Neither statement.cancel() nor the query timeout functionality seem to work. I'm using the MySQL connector-J driver, but the forum over there doesn't have any ideas. The program's fairly simple and it keeps a log of what's going on. Basically, if I execute a query on one thread and cancel it on another, the cancel doesn't seem to get through to the driver, according to the MySQL log, although the cancel statement is accepted without any form of error.
A similar thing happens with the query timeout - it just doesn't occur and the system waits until the query terminates normally.
One possibility is that the MySQL server and client program are on the same machine - would that make a difference? The GUI's still responsive (that's what I use to generate the queries and cancels).
The code's here - the threading is a bit unnecessarily complex but shouldn't affect anything. The log from an attempted cancel follows. The events were to start a query and a few seconds later call cancel. Sorry it's a bit long, but it couldn't be shortened much. The important methods are query() which starts a query, cancel() which cancels it (in theory), and the private class UserConn which implements the thread which does the database interaction.
Ignore the wait timeout stuff - that was put in to see what happened if a connection wasn't used for a certain length of time and doesn't affect this issue.

I take some of your points - I should have explained a bit more.
Sorry if it wasn't complete enough - I'm including the NetBeans-generated code for the GUI. To get the result, click "Connect", then "Query", then "Cancel" before the query finishes (it takes about 12 seconds on my machine, but of course you'll need a database for this - I had to put 1 million unindexed records in before it would run slow enough) - you'll need console output to see this.
The reason things are static is that this was intended to be a quick & dirty program to test a single connection and how to cancel long queries - it was a bit quicker to write a constructor than a factory method which checks whether there's a connection or not. With a non-static class would then be a lot of extra coding to make sure that the database access thread could handle simultaneous queries on different connections, but not on the same one. I'm definitely not calling the constructor more than once (unless I hit the Connect button twice, and even then it doesn't do anything except build a new Connection object which is never used ).
The bits in the log beginning with // are my comments telling you what the preceding line actually meant.
Thanks for your help.

Statement.cancel() no longer works with WLS 8.1?
Has anyone else had a problem with the cancel() method in oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement
on WLS 8.1 not doing a very good job of killing the thread in Oracle? We were
using cancel() with weblogic.jdbc.pool.CallableStatement on WLS 6.1 and it does
a very good job of killing the query on the Oracle side. But almost all of this
package has been removed and we've been told we need to use the Oracle vendor
package to get our stuff to work on 8.1. I decompiled both classes and they each
have very different implementations of the cancel() method.
I think I've managed to convert all of our DB access classes to the Oracle vendor
package successfully, with the exception of this issue. We use cancel() let users
cancel large queries and to cancel an existing query if a user tries to run a
new one. Since we implemented it we've had a huge performance boost from the lack
of runaway queries in the DB. It would be a real pain if we can't find a way to
get the Oracle version to work. Any help or tales of similar experiences would
be greatly appreciated.
thx a lot,
Matt SavinoI did a search on Oracle MetaLink. I didn't see any Oracle-confirmed
bugs related to cancel. I did see one user in the JDBC forum that
was having a problem with a remote (not on the local machine)
cancel. At this point, this case will need to be worked through
support - they will need to generate a reproducer and assuming they
do, file a tar with Oracle.

Regarding the wrappers - now I remember discussing this with you in thebeta newsgroup about a month ago.
The goal was to make it transparent that everything was changed to bepassthrough in 8.1.
The good news is that you can now use the vendor interface directly andget their extensions
directly. That means that the wrapper for Oracle will be different fromthe wrapper for DB2.
Further, any new excentions in the interface will become visible to theapplication.
>
The bad news is that this only works when the vendor has a definedinterface; it doesn't work
if only a class is defined.
This is a problem for some of the Oracle data type classes that don't havedefined interfaces
and the reason why weblogic.vendor.oracle interfaces still need to be usedfor these classes.
That also applies to BEA classes and weblogic.jdbc.pool only had classesdefined, not interfaces.
>
We should have documented change.
Regarding the real problem of cancel(), the WLS JDBC code is not doinganything here
except passing the cancel call through to the thin driver. My guess isthat this is
a problem in the thin driver. I haven't had a chance to research this onthe Oracle site yet.

Thanks a ton for your quick reply on this. On recommendation from yoursupport
team (case 426562) here is the primary line that we had to change:
[old] weblogic.jdbc.pool.CallableStatement cStat
=(weblogic.jdbc.pool.CallableStatement)connection.prepareCall(call);
>>
[new] - oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement cStat
=(oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement)connection.prepareCall(call);
>>
(FYI - We need this to take adavantage of some of the advanced Oraclefeatures
like returning multiple ResultSets. We'd like to avoid using the OCIclient if
possible, assuming that would even solve this.)
Further down in the code, here is the cancel() method:
public void cancelCall() {
try {
if (cStat != null) cStat.cancel();
releaseConnection();
catch (Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); }
In both cases the cancel() call throws no error, but only on the oldversion do
we actually see the thread die promptly in Oracle.
Thanks again for your help on this,
Matt

In versions prior to WLS 8.1, each Oracle extension had to be

explicitly wrapped
(and not all extensions were supported).
In WLS 8.1, it is a clean passthrough directly of all Oracle interfaces
using a dynamic proxy so that
all Oracle extensions show through. The only additional work that WLS
is doing to to
ensure that transactions are managed correctly (which shouldn't have
an impact here).
Note that in versions prior to WLS 8.1, you were using classes12.zip
for the client and now you are using ojdbc14.jar. There are
some big differences in this client implementation.
Maybe you should try testing this standalone without WLS in the picture
to see
if this is a driver problem. WLS doesn't have the code that isresponsible
for killing the thread in Oracle.
I'm not sure I understand what code you are changing. The goal was to
preseve the interfaces
provided in releases prior to 8.1. Code you show me an old code line
and what you are
changing it to? Thanks.

My pre-order cancellation isn't working!!
I recently pre ordered an album on itunes but then changed my mind and want to cancel it. I went into my account and went into 'manage my pre orders' and cancelled it that way. However, i then searched the album and it told me that it was still pre ordered. I do not want it any more and I don't want to have to pay for it when it is released. I have also tried signing out and then back in, and also turning my lap top on and off again. HELP!!!
Never mind! Mine fixed its self when i went back into itunes.

If you're phone is in recovery mode, then all your data is already wiped off. you'll need to proceed if you want to use your phone.
However after it is done recovering, you can restore back from your backp.

Problem with statement.cancel()
Hi,
I am using Oracle 10g with the 10.2.0.3 jdbc (OCI) drivers. Though my statement.quertTimeout() works fine, the statement.cancel() does not seem to do anything.
Could you please guide me as to the cause of this kind of action, since I have read that internally queryTimeout() depends on cancel() to stop qurery execution.
Thanks in advanceHi,
I am using Oracle 10g with the 10.2.0.3 jdbc (OCI)
drivers. Though my statement.quertTimeout() works
fine, the statement.cancel() does not seem to do
anything.
Could you please guide me as to the cause of this
kind of action, since I have read that internally
queryTimeout() depends on cancel() to stop qurery
execution.
Thanks in advanceThe code I am using is:
package test;
import java.sql.*;
import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
public class OracleQueryTimeout
public static void main(String[] args)
long timetaken; // Holds the execution time
int numFetchedRows = 0;
// Create a OracleDataSource instance
OracleDataSource ods;
try {
ods = new OracleDataSource();
//Sets the driver type
ods.setDriverType("oci");
// Sets the database server name
ods.setServerName("<my machine name>");
// Sets the database name
ods.setDatabaseName("orcl");
// Sets the port number
ods.setPortNumber(1521);
// Sets the user name
ods.setUser("<username>");
// Sets the password
ods.setPassword("<password>");
// Create a connection object
Connection connection;
connection = ods.getConnection();
// Sets the auto-commit property for the connection to be false.
connection.setAutoCommit(false);
Statement stmt = null;
String query = "Select * from USER_CATEGORY,MV_SUBSCRIBER_ATTRIBS";
stmt=connection.createStatement();
stmt.setQueryTimeout(0);
// Get time at start of query
long initialTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
// Execute the Query in query
ResultSet rst = stmt.executeQuery(query);
long finalTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
timetaken = finalTime - initialTime;
if(timetaken>0003)
stmt.cancel();
System.out.println("Statement Cancelled");
//Populate the ResultSet object
while ( rst.next() )
numFetchedRows++;
rst.getObject(1);
System.out.println("Time taken for query: " + timetaken);
System.out.println("Number of rows fetched: " + numFetchedRows);
System.out.println(rst);
} catch (SQLException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
The program hangs when it comes to retrieving the >resultset
The program gives the following output If I do not go through the resultset:
Statement Cancelled
Time taken for query: 50782
Number of rows fetched: 0
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleResultSetImpl@1a85d38Here the cancel method was invoked but to no visible action. -
Back to my mac isn't working properly
After downloading Mavericks, (which went without a hitch), I am now receiving an error in system preferences stating: Back to my Mac isn't working properly
because the DNS server isn't responding. Contact your internet service provider for a different DNS server address, enter it in Network preferences and try again.
In reality everything wireless is working; the internet the printer iPad works fine.
I went to the Airport utility and clicked on my Time Capsule and it states: Change Airport base station from using DHCP and NAT to Bridge mode.
I done that and everything related to the wireless router runs real slow, I mean real slow. It took just under 4 minutes for my Time Capsule to recognize the computer. Due to this I received all kinds of errors from the printer from Airport Utility and the iPad.
I need a fix please, I've read all the support documents related to this in the support community and either the answers given I have tried with no success or they do not relate to my situuation.
Thank you for looking at this, I only hope you have a valid answer.
JerryNew to BTMM, I got stung today with the silly DNS problem message. Solution:
1) Flush DNS cache with:
dscacheutil -flushcache;sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
2)System preferences > iCloud > untick BTMM then tick it again. The warning should have disappeared.
Edit #1
Apologies for the noise. The warning has come back
Edit #2
Just found out that BTMM is not compatible with double NAT. That's not helpful.

Adobe Customer Care sent me a link to take a survey but Adobe Survey isn't working for at least the past 24 hours!
Message on screen is "Sorry. This survey is not currently active."Sorry for not being more clear.
When I click 'print' to print an invoice from quickbooks online, a window pops open and usually there is a printer icon on the top left of the page and a preview of what I'm printing loads in the window. The day I posted my original message, however, the window pops up, there is no printer icon, and the preview does not load and I get the following message:
If you don't see a preview inside this window you need to get Adobe Reader, it's free!
1. important, if a file download window opened, close it.
2. click here to download Adobe Reader
3.Follow download instructions
4. cancel this window and click print again.
I uninstalled all versions of Adobe reader and reinstalled the latest version successfully and I'm still getting this message. Thank you for your willingness to help as I really NEED to be able to print invoices for my customers. -

M-Audio FastTrack USB recording isn't working?
M-Audio FastTrack USB recording- I installed it, and am trying to record sound through my keyboard. I can hear the sound through my headphones, and Audition recognizes the device, ( I have the input set to Mono > Line In 1 FastTrack) but not the sound. The level bar won't move or anything. I have no clue why this isn't working and I've been messing with it for hours so I'd really appriciate some help!
Since this behavior usually indicates an interruption in the communication between Audition and the audio driver, I wonder if a "force driver reload" button would help. I'm not sure if the application can automatically sense this state since there appears to be enough of a data stream to make it appear as if things are ok.
Either way, it's something that needs investigation. -
My App Store isn't working correctly..
My App Store isn't working correctly, as the title states, and it continues to give me blank pages. For example, I go to the search bar, simply search up an app I'd like to use, and nothing happens. I'm not given suggestions or a single app when I press "search". It works fine for a brief moment when I open it, but it's as if it freezes but continues to let me press the tabs on the bottom.
Hello Manorea
If you are having issues with connecting to the App Store then check out the second article that troubleshoots the iTunes Store and also is the same for issues connecting to the App Store.

I cannot connect iTunes on ipad, it just states cancel or retry?
I cannot connect to iTunes on iPad just states not connected and states cancel or retry?
That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer? -
NAC ADSSO with NAC Module isn't working for all modules
Hello,
We have a NAC OOB-L2-VG Deployment at the Central Site with VLAN Mapping and ADSSO which works just fine.
As part of the project we have implemented NAC Modules on ISR routers for the branch offices; same topology but as the documentation states no VLAN mapping was configured. The problem is that for some users in one branch office the ADSSO isn't working and in another branch office the ADSSO isn't working at all, all the users are getting authenticated with a local user we defined on the servers.
The configuration in both modules is exactly the same; they are using the same user to access the AD (the one used on the ktpass) the data links to the central site are both 1 Mbps and everything is pretty much the same thing.
I have checked the logs on the CAS-Module and it states that Windows SSO is running:
Nov 27, 2009 10:08:23 AM com.perfigo.wlan.jmx.admin.GSSRetrier$RetrierTask run
INFO: GSSR - Windows SSO is running
The interesting thing is that when the user goes thru the NAC process I see these logs:

The IP address 172.19.5.11 is the IP of the PC during the unauthenticated role; what the user is finally seeing is the CCA Agent asking for user and password instead of using the ADSSO.
The version of the Agent is 4.1.10, the NAS and NAM are running 4.1.8 and the only ackword thing is that the Active Directory Servers are running Windows 2000 SP4.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
