Static in my audio

strange problem with my G5 at work--the audio has serious static. i tried changing audio ports (switching between front and back) and changing the headphones, but the static won't go away. i checked levels, inputs, everything.
the only thing works (and this is weird), is when i restart my computer. then the audio is clear again for another 10 minutes before it gets staticy again.
what gives?

  • Sudden static on all audio out

I am running Logic Pro 7.1.1 on a G5 Dual 2.3 GHZ with 2.5 GB of memory.
I have eliminated all extra hardware and am now just using the built-in audio.
In the last week, before the 7.1.1 update, all audio in Logic has static on it. If I bounce any file and play it in iTunes, it is fine. I can record it perfect in Garageband and import to Logic and the static will appear. It is definilty isolated to Logic. The static is not solid but acts like the music is too loud and is clipping to the beat. Any ideas?

Have you tried trashing Logic prefs ? ( p106 in 'Getting Started' )
(re-instaling the app is not often necessary, but even if you do, it won't overwrite corrupt prefs)

  • S/PDIF out produces static when playing audio, sometimes with video

This is my first install of Arch Linux, and I am a bit of a noob. I started using Arch because I wanted to learn, and it's been absolutely perfect--I actually love it so far, and this is the first major problem I've had. Most of the Arch documentation has been exceptional, however I've been working at this all afternoon and haven't come up with a solution. SO, here goes nothing:
My motherboard has a few analog, S/PDIF optical and coaxial, and HDMI audio outputs as native (although HDMI runs through an onboard Radeon 6xx family card). I use S/PDIF because my receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs.
    The specifics:
In gnome-alsamixer, I have three tabs: USB Mixer, ATI R6xx HDMI, and Realtek ALC887-VD. The first tab has one PCM volume control, the ATI tab has nothing but a IEC958 checkbox at the bottom, and the Realtek tab has everything from master to input to surround sound settings.
In the console alsamixer, going to Select sound card has three options: 0 USB Audio CODEC, 1 HD-Audio Generic, and 2 HDA ATI SB. These correspond to the same three tabs above in the GUI. Selecting 1 shows an SPDIF output with no way to change the volume, only to mute or un-mute. WTF!
In GNOME sound settings, Output tab, I have for output selected Built-in Audio Digital Stereo (IEC958) with Connector: Digital Output (S/PDIF) selected at the bottom. In the Hardware tab I've selected Built-in Audio (1 Output, Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output). For some reason this program seems to prefer the first Built-In Audio option, which has two settings: Off, and HDMI audio. I do NOT want to use HDMI audio. It is currently turned off.

edit: skipping around on VLC while playing movies can produce some normal audio after a few seconds of static, however audio files have proven uesless. VLC is the only program that will play them so far and they've all been static.

it's the car, it's amp is likely doing something active with the audio streem which delay the signal a tiny bit

  • Just Static Instead of Audio When Recording Videos

Just updated to 4.1 and no dice. Whenever I record videos it does not record audio as well, just static. When I first had the phone it worked fine. I've read other forum posts about it and not found anything useful to attempt. Fairly annoyed that I spend $200 and have to put up with crap like this. I'm taking it to an Apple repair place today to see what they can tell me. Hopefully it won't be that, "It just works," because quite apparently it does not.

I use a PC for syncing, not sure what you mean by create a new user. I took it to the local Apple Authorized Dealer/Repair place yesterday (the nearest Apple store to me is in Orlando, about an hour's drive) and they informed me that I would most likely have to A: Send it back, B: Take it back to Apple and get a new phone.
I'm fairly certain it is a software issue though, just from my experience in audio technology. The more I listen to it, the more I realize it's actually hiss and not static. Something like you'd get if your preamp was turned way down on a mic, but your main's were at 100%. You get all that low-end hiss and crap that's normal covered up by the audio, and the audio itself is very faint. It seems like it also might have something to do with the bluetooth setup too.
I'm still fairly surprised that this issue is not being addressed by Apple directly. With as many PR disasters as they've had with this phone you'd think they would try and head something like this off at the pass. Oh well...

  • External Speaker Static: Problem with audio jack?

I don't believe that anyone on the forums had the same question.
I am having trouble with my macbook pro.  Whenever I plug in external speakers, I get bad static (very loud, about as loud as the speaker's audio itself).  I have tested this on multiple speakers and get the same results on all of them.  When used on another computer, the speakers work fine.  This suggests that it is something wrong with my audio jack for my mac.
I noticed that the 3.5 mm plug doesn't go all the way into the jack.  There is about a millimeter millimeter or two of space This isn't much, but may be resulting in the static.  I have tried forcing the plug all the way in, but it still does not go in.  Any ideas?
I am trying to avoid having to get a bluetooth speaker or anything wireless.

Headphones don't induce grounding problems like external speakers. I am guessing the external speakers were all amplified speakers, with built-in amps and some sort of mains power supply. Perhaps you also have some peripherals such as a display connected to the Macbook Pro.
Try this: disconnect all peripherals from the MBP (including the Magsafe power plug) except the external speakers and see if you get static. I will also guess that the static is more of a whine/buzz that changes whenever the computer does something different.
If this works, then you have a common ground problem. The cheapest way to solve this is a Radio Shack ground loop isolator on the speaker cable,

High fidelity versions are also available, more like $300USD.

  • Static when looping audio

I'm using Captivate 2 and inserted one of the included MP3
files as a background audio. It seems that every time the clip ends
and loops back to the beginning, I hear scratching or static. I've
tried deleting the end of the file but that doesn't seem to help.
    Any suggestions?

What's strange for me is that my computer worked fine for almost 2 years and then suddenly became noisy.

  • TS3581 Crackling static noise in audio with 30 pin lightning adapter when battery is full

Anyone else get a really bad crackling static noise through the audio when using the 30 pin lightning adapter and the battery is almost full? I am using an iPhone 5, BMW iDrive with the Y audio and USB connection. I did not have this problem with the 4S and the normal 30 pin connector. The lilghtning 30 pin adapter seems to create interference when the phone's battery is nearly full. I also see the warning message indicating that charging is not supported - and according to the troubleshooting guide this is normal - but what about the noise????

Alright, another update:   I tried another iPhone 5, which did not charge, and an iPod touch (without the lightning adapter, obviously), which also did not charge.  Additionally, I tried the lightning to 30-pin adapter with an old sync cable and my computer, and it worked fine.  At this point, it appears that the problem may be in the MDI cable coming from the car, rather than the adapter.  Perhaps it was just coincidental that it stopped working at the same time I upgraded.

  • MSI GT60 static/buzzing on Audio

    Hella there !
Hard to explain. Everything sound related has this strange static sound. Like random ringing. I'll get a sound sample later. It's really really soft but you hear it. I use a Samson G-Track via USB on a active USB hub. Doesn't help. You hear it even when nothing plays.
Anyone with the same problem ? It changes when I move the mouse quickly. Same static when using mic in but there it's like a wave pattern. Ac on off is the same ...
Disabling soundcard in hardware manager. No change.

Sounds like electrical interference or a ground loop. I've had to trouble-shoot this also. The noise can be worse when using an amplified output like an amplified headphone port, powered speakers, or a usb soundcard with headphone amp.
Does the noise happen when the laptop is plugged in, and when it is not plugged in?
Does the noise happen through the analog port, and with a USB soundcard?
Does the noise happen when the laptop is plugged into other outlets in you home, or in other locations outside your home?
    Are you using powerline networking?

Otherwise clear cmos (see the instruction in your motherboard's manual) and load the default settings for the bios for the time-being, boot into Windows and see/hear if there is still popping/crackling sound. Also try to update the motherboard with the newest the bios, maybe it will help.

  • Capture audio static with Leopard?

I just upgraded to Leopard and started capturing a new project with FCP. I now have static in the audio I didn't have before. Anyone else experiencing this. I've switch cables, drives, video playback decks and still get added static on all tapes. The audio on the tape when monitored with earphones is static free. Any ideas? Thanks.
    Gary

Thanks for the reply. All cameras are set to 16 bit audio. Nothing has really changed except the Leopard OS upgrade. I am getting a warning box about the audio possibly not syncing, but there is no sync problem. I'm just curious if I'm the only one having this problem with audio static on capturing after the Leopard upgrade. Thanks for any help.

  • AJ-HD1400PE recording audio with static

I'm trying to export a project and no mattter what I do, I can't seem to export it without there being a slight bit of static with the audio. I'm using firewire and it's worked in the past. The deck is less than a year old.
    MacBook Pro

Should be a straight digital transfer. Is the audio peaking above 0? Your speakers might not be able to handle that.

  • Static in audio

Is there a way to take out static from an audio file on STP? Any help would be greatly appreciated because its part of an important interview. Thanks!

If the static is fairly consistant, you can use the noise reduction tools in STP to ehlp filter them out. You'll need to sample a section of static only, then use that sample as the filter. Look for "Noise Reduction" is the STP Help Files for details.

  • IPad audio gradually turns to static

Weirdest thing. This happens intermittantly. As I'm using my iPad 2, the audio gradually turns to static. If I'm watching Netflix (as an example), I sometimes experience a gradual onset of static from the audio, to the point where it completely dominates the audio of the movie/show. It may very well be a streaming issue, but then I'll go to another app, and the static is still there. Sometimes, it appears when I'm not streaming. I did a reset to factory settings last night and have had no audio problems after using it for a little bit. When the problem first started, after leaving it for the night, it then operated properly for the next 3 days. Then, seemingly out of the blue, the static came back. Yesterday, there was nothing but static every time I used the device. I'll monitor to see if the reset has had any effect. The static in the audio can be heard with both the speaker and when plugged in with earbuds, which rules out a bad speaker.

This also happens to me. I just bought a 2012 MB Air and a refurbished Thunderbolt display.  After 3 minutes or so, the audio turns to static.  I have to restart the app which is driving the audio (Spotify for me in this case).
    NOT HAPPY.
