Station Globals resource related question( how much it allocates / optimal size of it in system)

Hi,
I have some questions StationGlobal’s oriented:
1. Does the variables of type StationGlobal allocate equals amount of memory without reference to type?
For example: Number/String/Boolean/Object Reference allocates equals resources:Number=String=Boolean=Object Reference=’X’ bytes)
   Or Number=’X’ bytes, String=’Y’ bytes, Boolean=’Z’ bytes?
2. Does it make the difference if I have 10 or 100 or 1000 StationGlobals variables allocated in my system regards  - resources of my system and
how the quantity of it influences(or not influences) to performance of system/Test execution?
Those questions are important, because we want to know how the quantity/type of StationGlobal’s lvariables influence to overall throughput/performance of
System (e.g. Test running).
Thank you & Best Regards
*I use LabVIEW 8.X & TestStand 3.5/4.0.1 versions only

Not so strange IMHO. You might be making a mental analogy to C data structures where nothing is abstracted and you know exactly what is happening to each byte.
However, TestStand variables are black box objects with a lot more functionality than plain C data structures. Like most such objects you create via almost any object oriented API, their exact memory usage is NOT documented.
One reason memory usage is not documented is that we need to be free to change the implementation if necessary, which would not be possible if we make guarantees about exact memory usage. Another reason it is not documented is because in most practical cases, it is not important, and we don't want to mislead people into worrying about it.
If you are allocating data structures of such vastness that it actually does matter, then the task manager is an appropriate and easy tool to use to view the approximate magnitude of memory used by the objects you create. This applies to most objects from most APIs, not just TestStand variables.

This is not Adobe. Rather user to user.
What did you do....purchase an online download of Photoshop Elements 13 from Adobe. Are you within 30 days of the date of that purchase?
In that case, please direct this question to Adobe Chat Orders to sort out the details of the purchasing situation and what you would like to do. Consider

  • Newbie Question:  How much computer do I need?

    Newbie Question:
I would like to use MainStage 3 in a live performance environment to play bars, parties, etc.  I'm not looping, using it to playback recordings, processing outboard equipment or vocal processing.  I want to stop carrying Rolands, Nords, Korgs, etc and get to a controller and a rack with a Mac Mini in it.
I tested a download of Mainstage 3 on my home Mac Mini (late 2012, 3.5 Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive) and it seemed to run fairly well.  $30 well invested so I trekked forward... I purchased a Mac Mini (late 2009,  2.52GHz Core 2 Duo, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD) for $200.  I started to do more elaborate keyboard setups to see how the CPU would hold up.  It typically runs from 30% to 50% of capacity (CPU and Memory)  It actually boots and runs better than the i5.  I hear the occasion gitch, but it actually seems to be getting better in time (or I'm rock and roll deaf.
I got a rack, an Airport Express, a Radial USB interface and a Nektar Panorama P6.  It's starting to get expensive, but I'm emboldened by the actual quality for the sound and the flexibility of arranging for live performance.  What used to take me two and three keyboards to play, I can now fit on one performance patch.
OK, now the question... am I at the limits of this little Core 2 Duo?  Should I upgrade the i5 with more RAM and a bigger SSD and use that?  Should I get a new(er) i7 and bite the $1,500 bullet for the additional RAM and SSD?
I see that most of you are running pretty nice Macbook Pros with i7 and lots of everything.  My needs are modest; am I OK?
BTW, I want to run a Mac Mini in a box because I don't want to carry a laptop out in the open.  If I was doing bigger shows I wouldn't care but I play some rowdy bars and constantly have folks hanging off me while I'm playing.  It's fun, but hard on gear.  If you can't drop it or dip it in beer, it won't last long where I work.
    Matt Donnelly

Rule of thumb: newer and faster is better. But, depending the complexity of your needs you may be OK with an older Mac. Some glitches that happen in a live performance are due to loss of communication with USB or Firewire inputs, so make sure they're secure. I recently upgraded from a 2010 Mac Mini 2.6 dual core with 16 GB RAM, which was used live for nearly four years, to the latest Mac Mini 3.0 i7 with 16 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD. I was getting an occasional stuck note with the older one. The new one is rock solid. Some of my patches may have up to a dozen channel strips mapped to three keyboards. The Mini is mounted in a rack next to a MOTU Ultralite Hybrid. It is a good idea to map a panic button on your keyboard to controller # 123(all notes off). Also, you might want to invest in a battery backup power supply(APC, Cyberpower, etc.-$40-$60) to protect your Mac against power loss, which can damage you hard drive.

  • Simple IPhoto Questions-How to reduce picture file size?

    Hello,
I know how to reduce the size of photos using the Mail program, but is there a simple way to reduce the size of photo files and keep them for sending through the internet at later dates. I would like to keep the photos at their original size for viewing, but transfer photos to a file where they will be used to send over the net in much smaller format size.
    thanks

As Larry says, you can resize the pics on Export using the File -> Export command.
and keep them for sending through the internet at later dates.
The intention in iPhoto is that you would only reduce the size on a case-by-case basis, rather than resize the whole library. As iPhoto always maintains the Originals this require quite a lot of disk space

  • Beginner Question - How do I amke frames size 320x240 ?

I am trying to make a student project using QT movies which are 320 x 240 pixels.
I want to string them together with some edits, titles and text but not change their size. Then save them back to a Quicktime movie the same size.
But when I drag 2 movies each about 15mb into iMovie they are turning into a huge file over 1.1Gb. I think they are being "upsized" to HD. Is that right?
How do I stop that? It is way to big for my hard drive space and I have only just started. I will also have to make the final file small enough to take on a flash drive to school.
Am I using the wrong program for this? If so what should I use?
    Thanks for any help.
    Patrick (Peter's my Dad)

    Hi Peter,
I'm a father too, so I appreciate your "joined forces"... ;-))
    .. but, where to begin?
he doesn't have a lot of time
before publishing a book, you have to learn reading & writing...-
you don't learn the basics of editing and the many feature of apps as iM, nor QTpro on the fly...
esp. No 5) on your list, How do you add controls, buttons, interactivity etc? lets me stumble..
    * QTpro is a tool with some "basic" editing skills. And a mighty converter.
    * iMovie is an elaborated editing tool for TV...
    * "interactivity" is a feature of socalled slideshow makers as Keynote, Powerpoint...
you have to decide, which tool to use, depending on your goal you want to accomplish...
probably, you should forget all that video editing, and add his "micro clips" in some Keynote presentation?
and that We kept the size down so he can fit the project on his 256mb flash drive now is really hillarious (sorry, probably not approbiate english term, me no english speaker).. that adds the next, maybe the biggest hurdle to go, because video downsizing aka compressing is the next problem. and compressing makes e.g. titles/letters unreadable...
    ...... where to start?
do they have "Keynote" on the computers at school?
if NOT, you have to save the whole presentation as a "movie", you just need a playback app; but that will be for sure much, much bigger then a tiny flashstick...
do you need video+new audio+titles IN video+transitions IN video?
then you need an edit tool as iMovie...
convert the micro movies with QTpro into "dv stream", import to iM, follow advices found here:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovieAtAGlance.pdf
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovieLesson1.pdf

    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovieLesson6.pdf
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovieLesson7.pdf
after editing, in the share/Quicktime/Expert settings dialog you can choose a compressor, which could crunch your video down to some size => loss of pic quality/readability of titles...
... and also because we do not have heaps of space free on my hard drive....
video contains 13Gb per hour. fullstop. no workaround to avoid that.
    Plan B)
    use Keynote
    create charts/slides
add some videos here&then (not fullsize!), prepare them with QTpro before import to Keynote, e.g. edit them. place "titles" on Keynote slide, NOT in video; adding audio is ... very, very basic in Keynote...- (Keynote is a slideshow maker, no video editor....)
safe as Keynote pres (small file, needs Keynote on school computer) or as Quicktime movie (huge file, needs only QTplayer app)
What is a reasonable size for a presentation
best practise: the res of the computer/monitor/beamer your using for presentation... in most cases MORE then video...
    How did they make those?
    ... not in a hurry…
sorry for being no help.... :-/

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro - how much hard drive space used for OS, iLife, system files?

    Dear Community,
I've just taken delivery of a used MacBook Pro.  It's pristine, hardly used.
It has a 750Gb hard drive with 500Gb free.  Does this sound about right or could there be hidden files lurking unseen?  The previous user had installed Microsoft Windows but I can't find any sign of a partition for that and the previous owner said he'd erased everything except Lion, iLife and system files, etc.
I looked in System Info which it isn't showing a large partition.  I also looked in Disk Utiliy under Partition which seems to show un "current" a single drive with no partitions and around 200Gb used.  It just seems a lot for the basic files.
I have another 100Gb to add to that when I migrate my PowerBook over in the next few days.  That's okay while I have the current drive but I've purchased a 500Gb Crucial SSD drive to replace it so that will leave 200Gb free.
I know I can remove the super drive and put my 750Gb drive in its place but I need super drive for viewing DVDs.
I would grateful for any feedback.
    K

Thanks everyone for your help with this.
After hours of trying to figure this out I located around 150Gb in total but found there was no way of removing references to the original owner whose "Home" file in Finder remained prominent.
So I elected to erase the drive and reinstall Lion using Disk Utility.  It took two hours or so to download and I took the precaution of plugging directly into Ethernet rather than my Airport.
When the download was complete I was able to input fresh details so all trace of the original owner has been removed.
Once that was done I upgraded to Lion 10.7.5 and was able to download Garage Band, iMovie and iPhoto for free from the App Store.
Anybody contemplating doing the same should check that their machine is elligible before erasing as Apple does an auto check before downloading.
Here's the state of the hard drive now:
Thanks again and what a great resource the community forum's are:-)

  • How much Ram can I add to my MacBook Pro?

Another non-techie here with a memory question
How much RAM can I add to my MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,1

  • Iphone 6 plus screen crack, how much does it cost.?

Had iPhone 3,4 and 5 and never had protective case. over the years phones fell several times. they even fell down on road, except for small dings on the edges they  never had cracked screens.
6 plus screen cracked after falling less than 3 feet (from back pocket) on to wood floor, even with protective case (bought case so that it won't slip from the hand, phone being so slippery).
I think,  Quality of apple hardware and software went down drastically with latest round of refresh.
iOS 8 has lot of issues.
usually hardware is high quality but seems like that is not the case anymore.
Even worse part of the experience is:
had online chat with apple support person and (Julian) he/she mentioned he/she will give me a deal for $129, fixing the screen.
After a quick google search, seems like list price of fixing the screen is in fact $129, I don't think there is any deal  (see the question).
    Question::
How much does it really cost to fix the screen crack. screen is working fine.
    https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/screen-damage/
Page lists price as $129 but support live-chat person mentioned around 350 something and offered deal of $129.
Did anyone had the iPhone 6 plus fixed ? if so how much did it cost, without applecare.??

Whole unit replacement of an iPhone 6 Plus is $329 USD + tax.
Screen replacement only is $129 USD + tax.
Either you misunderstood, or they were simply trying to explain how a screen replacement is less expensive than whole unit replacement.
Why do you care if it's a 'deal' or just the normal price?  Are you wanting to be treated special and different from other Apple customers?

  • 8GB vs. 16 GB - How Much Space Taken by Default Apps?

I plan to use the Touch mainly for calendar, contacts, task (Data-Wiz) and browsing web and e-mail. Maybe a few songs, but focus is on getting organized through access to above info which will be synced with Outlook 2007 on Windows desktop.
Question - how much space do the default apps take up?
My Outlook pst file is 70 meg.
E-mail is 328 meg, but is the e-mail downloaded to the Touch or just viewed online?
From what I know now, the 8GB Touch seems more than satisfactory in terms of capacity. What are your thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Mark

i don't think that was the question Mark, but i think the answer is a similar one.
as far as i know the OS software (which is basically all the default apps, and is the same for all available sizes) takes up something like a GB of space, so 7GB out of an 8GB, and presumably 15GB of a 16GB iPod touch is left for the user to put their things on it.
when you add details to it, it obviously takes up more space, but not much. (i'm afraid i'm not sure enough to be more accurate).
really the major consideration for which size to go for, is how much music/podcasts/video you plan to keep on it. most apps only take up a few MB, though there are a few which are much larger.

  • How much of logging is too much of logging?

    Hi All,
OK, that was my question, how much of logging is too much of logging?
Recently one of my co-worker (not me, not me at all) had written about 100 classes and after getting the framework right, he has now been asked to log all those bunch of classes and methods.
He is damn bored and fed up with logging and he needs to log it in a ratio of 1 line of logging per 10 lines of code (approximately). And he also must log "ENTERING", "EXITING" in each method whenever he enters and exits a method.
I personally like to log as little as possible, although we don't log everything in INFO and we do log a lot of things in DEBUG logging level, logging every method doesn't feel correct to me.
And I hate too much of logging because to me it makes the code unreadable. Many of you will disagree this point, but I feel the important log statements often get messed up with those "ENTERING" and "EXITING" kind of log statements.
And another question, when is the right time to log? Logging as and when we are writing the code or logging it after everything is done (like how the pure dude is doing now). The former seems to be the better.
    Your thoughts??
    Thank you

    Hi All,
OK, that was my question, how much of logging is too
much of logging?Too general for a one size fits all answer.
    And he also must log
"ENTERING", "EXITING" in each method whenever he
enters and exits a method.Sounds fine, especially if it logs the parameters passed to the method, as well as what it returned (if not void) or if it returned via exception.

although we don't log everything in INFO and we do
log a lot of things in DEBUG logging level, logging
every method doesn't feel correct to me.It's reasonable. During development, logging may be very verbose, but it can be useful. During production, you can configure the logging to not log at the DEBUG level, so you wouldn't see these log messages anyway and it shouldn't impact performance enough to be a concern.

Aspect-J is one popular AOP framework.
