Stop SCOM services before installing UR5 for SCOM 2012 SP1?

Hello,
Shall I stop SCOM services on management server before upgrade to UR5?
ENV: 3 SCOM 2012 SP1 management servers without UR.

You didn't need to stop services within upgrade.
To upgrade to UR5, you can refer below link

    Hi,
Here is a guide on how to create custom reports in Configuration Manager 2012, it is a great place to start, change to the data you want to display instead.

  • Charged for the month of service before signing up for Verizon

    Hello,
I signed up for service with Verizon on 1/18/2014. I received my first bill and it is charging me for December 19-January 18. I am quite surprised I am being charged for a month where I wasn't even a Verizon customer. Is this common?
I tried chat support to talk to someone and literally all options are 'all agents are busy'. Of course no email address for support. I don't want to have to go into a store to remedy this charge. Thanks for any help!

No they have no right to charge you for service BEFORE you became a customer.
However on you first bill the closing date is the 18th of January 2014
You new service should be billed in advance for January 19, 2014 until February 18, 2014 included in this should be your activation fee and one day of service not one month.
Then there are taxes and verizon fees in that invoice. You bill should show all this line by line, or charge by charge.
Take it into the store and have someone look at it.
Verizon does not bill for days you never had service. They bill in advance. If this is what to come, I would just leave, take them to court and get out fast.
    Good Luck
Oh make sure its a verizon corporate store, not a reseller.

  • Considering Stopping SMS_Exec service before backup. Thoughts?

I'm considering a scheduled task to stop the SMS_exec service before the backup runs and restarting after backup is completes.
This will keep the logs clean from tasks that fail when the database is unavailable.
Does anyone currently do something similar?
    Thoughts?

Keeping the logs clean has no actual value.
What are you doing to perform your backups?

  • BIDS or SQL data Tools for SQL 2012 SP1 database

I want to start customising reports from my Win 7 workstations. The SCCM server is SQL 2012 SP1
Do I need to install SQL Server Data Tools onto the workstation or can you still use BIDS (Visual Studio) from SQL 2008 media
Also I have saved some custom report .RDL files from previous assignments. Can I convert these to point to this site's database for use in SQL 2012 ?
    Ian Burnell, London (UK)

Thanks Garth - so if I install 2008 BIDS on my W7 workstation then I will be able to connect to the CM2012/SQL 2012 database?
Yes you will be able to do that. I do it all the time for SQL 2005 or 2008 to SQL 2012 and SQL 2014. :-)

  • Considerations before installing SSD for system only

I Have 3 2 Tb HDD in raid5 via mdadm working wonderfully, providing me of a 4 Tb /home partition.
I just purchased a 128 Gb SSD to use it just for arch installation (root) and I have a couple of questions:
First of all.... I will use syslinux as boot loader... is it better to use GPT over MBR?
Second.... I used to put /boot on a separate partition but, as I have been reading, the less you partition a SSD, the better... so, better just create a single 128 Gb ext4 partition and install all the system there?
I currently have 4 GB 800Mhz RAM, and the machine is used for dwnloading purposes and for browsing and HD movie playback..... I'm thinking about not using a swap partition anymore...
    Any recommendations?
    Thank you guys!
EDIT1: The RAID5 is using MBR... can I run into trouble if there are some other disks using GPT?

hunterthomson wrote:Use GPT on SSD becuase GPT will always create aligned paritions.
As will plain fdisk these days.  GPT is a better option anyways (unless you lack UEFI and need to boot Windows from the drive), but either major cli filesystem tool will align by default to 2048 sectors.
When I redid my system, I just made / and /boot on my 64 GB SSD (and in hindsight I could probably have gotten away without /boot but meh, ~habit~.  A 100 MB /boot won't do much to the drive either way).  I haven't gotten around to remaking my HDD yet beyond a 4 GB swap partition; I won't know what filesystem to use for the rest of the HDD until I know whether or not I'm reinstalling Windows (the swap partition is mainly for hibernation and Windows 7 can stick its mostly-mandatory page file in it with SwapFS).  My main data storage is over my home network.
As far as data partitions, I tend to put them in /mnt/$HOSTNAME/LABEL - sure, it might be easier to just mount them in $HOME instead of sticking them in /mnt and symlinking if/when needed, but I like to at least maintain the illusion of a multiuser system (or just forgo symlinks altogether and cd in the /mnt tree ...)
Adding the discard mount option can have noticable performance drawbacks; you could instead manually or up a cronjob to run fstrim when you're not actively using the system and such impact would be less noticable.  Pros and cons w/ either method
(As an aside, one thing you can do if you want to do something that'll go somewhat over your 4 GB ram limit - like linking Firefox PGO x64 which uses somewhere around 5 GB - you can use zramswap.  It acts as a high-priority swap and compresses RAM contents when needed.  Slower than plain RAM once you start "swapping" but quite a bit faster than disk i/o!)

  • Select specific folder while install DP for SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi All,
    I have two Question:
1- Is there any option to select specific folder like "C:\Windows\DP Packages\" to include all folders for Distribution Point (SCCMContentLib.....) -- Can we use Hidden folder?
2- Can we Limit Distribution point to Use only specific storage Like 50 GB from disk?
    Thanks.

    1) Out of the box No. The contentlibrary will be created in the root of the drive by default
    2) When creating the DP you can configure "Drive Space reserve" available before another drive is selected.

  • Applications don't install from OSD after 2012 SP1 upgrade

After upgrading SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1, then to CU3 (to fix a PXE issue), my OSD task sequences no longer installs any applications after the OS.  Win7 installs with all drivers, the PC is added to the domain and the correct ConfgMgr client version is installed
with a healthy connection to SCCM.
However the C:\_SMSTaskSequence folder remains with the 7GB WIM file and none of the 12x applications installed.  A task sequence with the applications works when run from Software Centre.
Here's a link to the logs:
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=F6A8637E6F70F676%21110
EDIT: Removed paste of smsts.log file.  Added Skydrive link.

Thanks for checking it out.  Those errors are old entries from a year ago.  Not sure why they are still there; current issue date is 14-01-2014.  Network Access account is set and permissions are correct.
The TS logs look fine up to after installing the ConfigMgr client.  It then kicks off TSMBootStrap.exe:
    ==============================[ TSMBootStrap.exe ]==============================
    Command line: "C:\Windows\CCM\TSMBootstrap.exe" /env:Gina /configpath:C:\_SMSTaskSequence /bootcount:1
    Logging successfully initialized.
Resuming Task Sequence in Full OS
It then logs a whole bunch of:
Failed to open key Software\Microsoft\SMS\47006C006F00......  \SMSTS
then ends it with Exiting with return code 0x80070002 which is:
"The system cannot find the file specified."
And that's the end of the TS.  I need to find out what file it's referring to.  TSMBootStrap.exe exists in the correct path.

  • Server for SCCM 2012 SP1

    Dear All,
I want to ask about installing SCCM on Windows Server 2012, whether
    it should be installed on
    the Domain Controller
    Server? Then, is it
    okay if not installed on
    a Non-DC? Can
    anybody give the reason?
    Please enlightenment.
    Thank You.

    Hi,
Although, SCCM 2012 can be installed on a DC, but it is not recommended configuration. I suggest you install it on a domain-joined server.

  • Does anyone know if there is a Driver limit for BootImage (x64) for SCCM 2012 sp1

I have been running into the issue when trying to upload new network and Hard drive controller drivers into my existing Boot image it fails.  But Curiously enough  if I delete out the exact same amount of drivers that I am trying to add it will
update .  The only drivers I have in the image are strictly network and Controller drivers. Although there are probably 100 drivers in all to support all the makes and models the company is using.  Just Curious if there is a Ceiling.

    100 is excessive.
Boot images contain many drivers by default -- in fact, they contain all of the default drivers that their corresponding OS contains; e.g.  Win PE 5.0 based boot image contain all the drivers that Win 8.1 does. Thus you should not just add every
NIC and storage driver you come across to the boot images. You should only add drivers to bot images if the boot image doesn't already contain a suitably driver. Discovering this is a simple trial and error process of simply booting a system using your
boot image and see if it gets an IP address and if it can see the local disks.
Thus, honestly, your first step here is to start over and only add drivers that you truly need.

  • Stop Services Before Patching

    Hello,
I had a question come up yesterday regarding a few servers in my environment related to patch deployments from SCCM 2012. Is it possible to deploy a Software Update Group that will stop certain services before patches are applied - then, after the reboot,
start those services up in a specific order?
There are at lease two seperate high-profile production applications where I have to suppress the reboots and schedule reboot times for those systems so the system owners can start the services in a specific order. It would be a real time saver to automate
    this type of situation.
    TIA

For scenarios like this where you need to control multiple steps, many organizations use Orchestrator to automate the process.  I prefer this approach because it allows the most flexibility for handling success/failure scenarios.
You can also try to use a Task Sequence for this.
    I hope that helps,

  • Can not install software for the camera on my G10

    Hello
New poster today seems my CD/DVD media drive has stopped working, tried to install software for new camera, just getting blue screen and a small flashing disc, seems there is no power in drive.
Any advice welcome only had machine since late June 2005.Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like a service problem
    THANK YOU!
    JIM.

    Hi
Well like xaver said it could be a hardware problem but before you contact the ASP try to remove the drive from the device manager. After new reboot the OS should recognizes the driver again. Maybe this procedure will help you to solve this problem. But if not, please contact the service partner

  • Error while installing SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack 5.3

When installing the database utilities portion of the SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack 5.3 setup, the error below occurs.
Invalid connection (CREATE ASSEMBLY failed because it could not open the physical file "C:\Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle Extension Pack\bin\ext\SSMA4OracleSQLServerCollections.NET.dll": 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).)
It appears that the installer is using the path: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle Extension Pack"

    Hi,
According to your description, this error might be caused by the account you used to install SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle Extension Pack. We can troubleshoot this issue as follows:
Verify the installation file is complete before installing this Extension Pack.
When you install SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack, we need to make sure you right click the pack and select ‘Run as administrator ’. Also we ensure that your account has Read/Write permission on the bin folder.
Additionally, before installing SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack, we need to
make sure that the system meets the following requirements:
SQL Server 2005 or higher is installed.
Microsoft  Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version.
SQL Server Browser service is running.

  • How to find reporting services are installed in which mode

    Hi All,
I'm currently working on migrating SQL server from one datacenter to other. The source environment has reporting services installed and as per the info given by the client they are using reportingservices with sharepoint integrated mode.
When I checked the SQL server reporting server configuration manager, i donot see any databases within the databases option.
From SSMS I can see two databases with names reportserver$DEN2010 and reportserver$DEN2010tempdb, the sql server instance name is DEN2010. What i want to know is these databases are created by using which of the below options ?
     1. Install the sharepoint mode integrated mode default configuration.
Will the databases with instance names created by default when you select the above option ?
    2. Install but donot configure the report server option.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards, Kranthi
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kranthi_06,
According to your description, you have an environment with reporting services installed, the info given by the client they are using reportingservices with sharepoint integrated mode. In SSMS, you can see two databases with names reportserver$DEN2010 and
    reportserver$DEN2010tempdb.
In Native Mode, in the SQL Server Installation Wizard, if we select Install and configure option, the ReportServer database will be created automatically through Setup. If we choose the Install only option, we must use the Reporting Services Configuration
Manager to create the database manually. By default, the database format is ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB. In SharePoint Mode, we need to create at least one Reporting Services service application by using SharePoint Central Administration or Reporting
Services PowerShell cmdlets, then three databases are created for each Reporting Services service application and the database names by default include a guid that represents the service application. The following are example names of the three SharePoint
    mode databases:
    ReportingService_90a9f37075544f22953c4a62e4a9f370
    ReportingService_90a9f37075544f22953c4a62e4a9f370TempDB
    ReportingService_90a9f37075544f22953c4a62e4a9f370_Alerting
For SSRS 2008 R2 or early versions, we can identify report server mode using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager. For SSRS 2012 or later versions, Reporting Services Configuration Manager no longer supports Reporting Services SharePoint mode. Configuration
of SharePoint mode is completed using SharePoint Central Administration.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
