Store links to uploaded files in mysql database

Hello. What I'm trying to do is, let a user upload a file to my server, and lets other users download those files. I don't want to store the files in a database, because that will slooow things down. What I was wondering is how I would be able to store links to the files in the database, and let other users view them, and download them. I'm using apache tomcat, and MySQL.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Uploading File To MySQL from HTML form via Servlet

I'm working on simple Servlet/Jsp application trying to hold to MVC pattern and got stuck on uploading file to MySQL db.
Here's what I'm trying to accomplish:
1) client submits a JPEG image via a simple html form on a webpage.
2) JPEG is put into a database table, column field of type BLOB.
3) Servlet processes the request, gets a connection to the db and inserts the image into the table.
4) after that user is able to retrieve an image from db and display it in JSP page.
This is pretty much the same task Angela was trying to do here:

I could use her snippets if i knew what is what and decided to figure out this myself. Aftet some investigation i found out that i need to import org.apache.commons.fileupload.*;which i found here: http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/fileupload/

is it a reason for concern ?Yes.
You should take a look at the method in the documentation and find out exact reason for depricating it.
If it is depricated becouse they going to remove it in the future you should use the new alternative method becouse if you use the old method your app will not work in the future releases of the API.
If it is depricated becouse it is not safe to use the method you should clearly understand the risks involved in using the method and see if that can give you any trouble in your project.

what about large ammounts of text ?You can use clob columns.
By the way when you store files in the database its better you put some extra columns to store the file name and file type(mime) becouse you cant directly detect those things later by just looking at the data of the file.

Uploading a file into mySQL database?

Hello, everybody.
Can anyone give me a code snippet or at least a hint, how could I upload a file into the BLOB field of mySQL database using JSP webpage? How do you generally store uploaded files on the server? If anyone could suggest a good algorythm of saving the files in the server's file system and saving only their URLs in the database (this was my initial idea), I would be ready to accept this as well.

Inserting a pdf file in mysql database using jdbc

hi guys,
i'm developing an application, where i have to upload the documents and store it in the database.
i'm using mysql db. using the jdbc statements i have stored the contents of the pdf file. But, i'm unable to read the content, it's looks like junk values. and when i retrieved using the stream objects. it looks like the same.
i'm able to store and retrieve the text based and image files.
is it possible to store pdf and word documents in the database columns directly??
any ideas are appreciated.

Remove link for uploaded files in application

Hi all,
I've been following the tutorial on how to upload and download files in application at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32472_01/doc/appdev.300/b32469/up_dn_files.htm. I have now created my own table which stores the uploaded files and can download them successfully. I would now like to add the ability to delete these files within the application and was wondering what the best way of doing this was?
I would like to add another column to the displayed report with a 'Remove file' link for each listed file, which when clicked would delete the file from the table. I've already tried using a similar method to the one used to upload the files (instead of uploading the file, the called procedure deletes it from the table using the specified ID), but this causes the application to display a blank page when the link is clicked, which I dont want (but does delete the file).
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Upload image into mysql database residing on remote server is not working?

i need ur help,we hav online site .Please don't use these juvenile abbreviations. It's impolite when you're asking for assistance not to make the effort to spell out all of the words. Moreover in a forum with an international readership the use of standard English will reduce the possibility of confusion.
I presume that your file upload is being placed in a different directory from that which you were expecting. I would suggest logging all paths (specifically filename) to see if this is an unexpected value.
Please explain further what you mean by "local" - is this a stand-alone application, or merely running a copy of the server on your local machine and doing the transfer (via the browser) to that? Are there any other differences such as the browser used?

Linking Postfix to the PostfixAdmin MySQL database

I am building a hosting platform on OS X Server. Thus, I want to manage mail users and virtual domains in a database.
First, I followed Pterobyte's advises in order to manage virtual domains with Postfix, using Apple's administration tools (http://downloads.topicdesk.com/virtual-users.pdf).
Then, I recompiled Postfix with MySQL support, following advises found on this forum.
Finally, I installed Postfix Admin and its MySQL database.
And everything works! So, I should be happy, but the glue between Postfix and the PostfixAdmin database is missing. The reason is very simple: Postfix is still configured to use the "/var/imap" database. So, my questions are very simple:
1. How can I say to Postfix to use the Postfix Admin MySQL database instead of LDAP?
2. Will I still be able to use Apple's Server Admin to manage my mail service? Of course, not for users and virtual domains management, but at least to start/stop mail, read logs...

I tried that, but it seems to imply that I modify my MySQL configuration, which is not so easy because I have 10 sites running on MySQL for clients. But I will try again later.
-Check permissions on the socket are correct.

How to store files in mysql database using JSP?

I'm developing an online recruitment system using JSP in server side. For the users who registers in it, I want them to upload their cv's from the web site so that I can store it in the database..I'm using mysql as the db..
Can I know how to do it.?..or else is there any better way of doing that?

The best way to put data in a database in a JSP is to not do it. Instead, use a Servlet that calls a DataAccessObject. The DAO puts the data in the DB and the servlet gives the data to the DAO. The JSP does nothing but display results.
Take a google for JSP MVC and DAO. BalusC has a great example of DAO and a JSP that uses one on his blog.

How to upload images to MySql database.

Hey guys so i created a insert form in dreamweaver to add to a database, its workin fine but i want to add another field to browse for and add a small image of the item. I created my insert form with a wizard and I'm not sure how to add an image uploader to it. I have a blob field in my database called "image" I'm just not sure how to add to it from my form. Storing images in a database is generally not a good idea. Apart from bloating your database and increasing the risk of table fragmentation when images are updated or deleted, you cannot display an image directly from a database. However, if you want to do it, you will find instructions here: http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_Upload_images_to_a_MySQL_database__PHP_-16609.html.
The more common (and efficient) approach is to use the database to store details of the image, such as filename and caption. Then upload the image to your website's file system.

Where can i see the .mdf or .ldf files for mysql database?

Hi i have created a database in mysql workbench. Now i want the .mdf or .ldf files for my project deployment. where can i see this files in my folders. I have searched in this folders.
C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\data.
Couldn't find the data's here. Please Help. Actually i don't know i am on the right path. Or please tell me how can i create it?

I think mysql has a different file structures than MS SQL. May be this link will help you

Linking Azure website with Remote mysql database in Cpanel

I am creating an azure website eg calvynlee.azurewebsites.net
In my hosting cpanel account, I create a mysql db & user, in order to link the azure website with this mysql db, I had place a "%" in the remote mysql section.
It works, but when I remove the % from the remote mysql section. Azure website unable show error connection with my database.
Question:
Understand that placing % is allow all remote connection to my database. For security purpose, placing % is not recommended, and placing the website IP address is the most suitable practice.
Unfortunately, I place the website IP (by ping the website and obtain the IP) in remote mysql section is not working.
My cpanel service provider mention that the IP I obtain is not the right IP, there will be another host sever IP
What is the actual IP address I should put? and How to find this right IP?
