Strange Behavior connecting to Oracle

Hi to All,
On Server Windows 2003 I have installed Oracle 10g R2. On this Server run Toad for Oracle.
If I run Oracle console, all work fine; running Toad the ORA-12154 error is displayed.
I have tried to connect to DB with Toad from a client and all works.
Have someone an idea on this strange behavior ?
Thank You and Best Regards
Gaetano

This may be a problem?NO!
12154, 00000, "TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
// *Cause:  A connection to a database or other service was requested using
// a connect identifier, and the connect identifier specified could not
// be resolved into a connect descriptor using one of the naming methods
// configured. For example, if the type of connect identifier used was a
// net service name then the net service name could not be found in a
// naming method repository, or the repository could not be
// located or reached.
// *Action:
//   - If you are using local naming (TNSNAMES.ORA file):
//      - Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the
//        NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
//        (SQLNET.ORA)
//      - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper
//        directory and is accessible.
//      - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier
//        exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
//      - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA
//        file.  Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors
//        in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.
//   - If you are using directory naming:
//      - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the
//        NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
//        (SQLNET.ORA).
//      - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is
//        accessible.
//      - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the
//        connect identifier is configured in the directory.
//      - Verify that the default context being used is correct by
//        specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN
//        as the connect identifier
//   - If you are using easy connect naming:
//      - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the
//        NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
//        (SQLNET.ORA).
//      - Make sure the host, port and service name specified
//        are correct.
//      - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks.
//   See the Oracle Net Services Administrators Guide or the Oracle
//   operating system specific guide for more information on naming.This error is clear.
SQL*Net is being asked to resolved TNS_ALIAS & it reports that it can not find the requested name.
EITHER
1) the requested name is not correct
or
2) SQL*Net is looking in the wrong tnsnames.ora file & still not finding the requested name.
Good Luck solving your mystery

  • Strange behavior of oracle database

    I have a instance in a db server and i access the databse from sqlplus through my client.today morning when I wanted to restart the database while opening the database it gave the following error.
    SQL> startup
    ORACLE instance started.
    Total System Global Area 272629760 bytes
    Fixed Size 1248504 bytes
    Variable Size 125829896 bytes

    ORA-01172: recovery of thread 1 stuck at block 137 of file 2
    ORA-01151: use media recovery to recover block, restore backup if needed
    but when restarted it sitting on the server itself it got started up without complaining.
    What could be the culprit for this strange behavior of the database??

    Hi,
    This problem normally occures when block corruption happens.
    DIAGNOSTIC ANALYSIS: ORA-1172 is said to happen when we failed to change on a block during instance recovery. This happens when a block is broken and fixed during its recovery. We have collected two dump files of the redo logs to investigate this symptom further. We would like to know what the reason to cause this symptom was and how to avoid / cope with this.
    *Cause: Crash recovery or instance recovery could not apply a change to a block because it was not the next change. This can happen if the block was corrupted and then repaired during recovery.
    *Action: Do a RECOVER DATAFILE for the file containing the block. If this does not resolve the problem then restore the file from a backup and recover it.

  • Strange internet connection behavior

    I am experiencing strange behavior with my internet connection. Overall, it's erratic. E.g., when I boot the system, the internet connection fails. Yet, after it does so, I am able to run my browser, load web pages, access streaming media -- all while right-clicking on the internet connection button on the menu bar shows no connection in effect.
    However, for the most part I am unable to to download my email -- though occasionally that works, too.
    Finally, I am never able to initiate an internet connection. E.g., if I right-click on the connection button in the menu bar and click on "Connection PPPoE," the system eventually informs me that it "could not find a PPPoE server."
    Throughout, my DSL modem shows that I am connected.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Eric Weir

    The MacBook is connected directly to a DSL modem. No router.
    I checked and reset my account settings, although they were as you recommend before I did so. I also reset the modem -- disconnected power for about 30 seconds, then held the reset button in for about 10 seconds after reconnecting the power cable.
    After doing that the system attempted to connect and reported it couldn't find a PPPoE server. After getting that report, however, I was able to load web pages and download my mail.
    Checking network settings through system preferences with the situation as above shows that I have an ethernet connection but not a PPPoE connection. However, if, with the window for the latter selected, I click on "help me" and then "diagnostics," the system reports that the internet connection is working properly.
    Bottom line at this point? I can load web pages and download email, but the menu bar indicates no connection. Paralleling that, the system says I have no PPPoE connection, but diagnostics says the internet connection is working properly.
    Five minutes from now I may or may not be able to download email. I probably will be able to load web pages.
    An AT&T technician is scheduled to be here this afternoon. This strikes me as an operating system problem, however, not a problem with my ISP.
    Again, additional clues would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Eric Weir

  • Outlook strange behavior with error 0x800CCC13 Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem

    Hi guys,
    I am having a strange behavior in my environment. We are running Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2007 for client access. Some of these clients needs to access some pop3 accounts from diferent vendors.
    About 2 weeks ago, we start getting error Ox800CCC13 (as described above) when users try to send email through their pop3 accounts in Outlook. This only happens to about 5 out of 100 users. I have removed the pop3 account and readded it. I was able to send
    just one email out then issue was back.
    Next, I tried sending out simple text message with no attachment. No luck. However, I noticed when I remove the signature (10 kb gif image) I was able to send out a few emails. However, issue is back with or without signature.
    For more testing, I added Mozilla Thunderbird client for the pop3 account with no exchange account and so far no error. Emails are sending out fine. I would appreciate any insight please.

    Hi,
    This problem may occur if the Outlook 2007 client computer does not have a default gateway configured.
    For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.To
    add this DWORD value yourself, follow these steps.
    Outlook 2007
    1.
     Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2.
     Locate and then click the following subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC
    3.
     On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4.
     Type DefConnectOpts, and then press ENTER.
    5.
     Right-click DefConnectOpts, and then click Modify.
    6.
     In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
    7.
     Exit Registry Editor.
    Sincerely
    Harry

  • "BD21" Strange behavior.....

    Hi folks,
                   We are coming across a strange problem. As we migrated from another system. I have setup ALE/Idocs for certain countries. We schedule the change pointer “BD21” program and the “RSEOUT00”. These program were running fine since 3 weeks and I can see the transaction Bd87,We02 that Idocs are successfully passing to the target system . They also confirmed they are getting data.
    In between these days, we have found that BD21 is taking a long time, like it taking 1 hour to process the 90,000 entries. I looked in to different OSS notes and then I implement them. In addition, we finally schedule the program “BD22”. After this , the change pointer run time again come to under 30 minutes .
    Yesterday, we have notice that “Bd21” is keep on running for last 17 hours . We have get some much complained that clients haven’t received any Idocs. Obviously, If its keep on running how can they receive the Idocs. So we cancel the background job and re-schedule it and then it created Idocs for the message type “hrmd_a”.This time it ran just in 30 minutes.
    I am in great dilemma, why it took 17 hours, what is the reason … could you please help me and bring in your thought and suggestion. Why it took so many hours to run.
    What need to be check? What can be the possibility?
    I’ll appreciate your help and concern.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi!
    Also a general 'bad performance' might be a reason. Spoken more technical: it's possible to run into a deadlock.
    This happens, when one program holds a lot implicit (read) locks on a table, so that others can't make write accesses (change pointer status). After some time locks can't be handled on single entry level and will be hold in pages -> even more locks.
    That's just database behavior (maybe only Oracle, I'm not sure) - there is no connection with SAPs lock concept.
    If you want to have a look at a similar situation: take a non-buffered number range, create an according object and stop in middle of saving in debugging (after FM number_get_next, before commit). Now it's impossible to create a second object -> saving in other sessions just shows hour glases until you finish your debugging.
    Maybe you had such a number range buffering problem with a number linked to IDOCs.
    This can just be analyzed <i>during</i> the problem -> have a look at SM50/SM66 in case of long runtimes next time. You should see either a long table access of wait reasons (hopefully).
    Regards,
    Christian

  • Error While Connecting to Oracle

    Hi All,
    While Connecting to Oracle through jdbc thin driver, following error is displayed. Please help me in resolving the same.
    <b>SQL Exception:
    State  : null
    Message: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
    Error  : 17002</b>

    hi,
    Any or all of the following conditions may also apply:
    1) You are able to establish a SQL*Plus connection from the same client to the same Oracle instance.
    2) You are able to establish a JDBC OCI connection, but not a Thin
       connection from the same client to the same Oracle instance.
    3) The same JDBC application is able to connect from a different
       client to the same Oracle instance.
    4) The same behavior applies whether the initial JDBC connection
       string specifies a hostname or an IP address.

  • Strange behavior  in entity bean : get Timestamp

    Hello:
    I'm working with SUNONE 7 AppServer , over SunOS 5.9
    I've a strange behavior with entity's get methods which return Timestamp value.
    For example, I've got
    Timestamp date;
    If I do
    entity.setF(date) , ( date is a Timestamp with value "12/12/2005 12:30:00" )
    all works right, and in database is wrote right ( "12/12/2005 12:30:00" )
    But , if I do
    date = entity.getF()
    the, date variable has the value "12/12/2005 00:00:00"
    So, in get method is lost the time value of a Timestamp data
    Could be a code bug in my source , but if I use Jboss AS over Windows XP , all work right ( set and get methods ). The database is the same one ( Oracle 9i )

    Well, I found the solution.
    The problem was the ojdbc14.jar driver, which made wrong schema files.
    Exactly, with the bad ojdbc14.jar, generated this entry
    <_type>91</_type>
    when the right one for date types ( Timestamp ) is
    <_type>93</_type>
    I dont know why the new ojdbc14.jar works fine, but I paste its size
    good ojdbc14.jar : 1181679 bytes

  • Strange behavior in a table with dropTarget and delete action

    I am having a strange behavior in a table with drag and drop and action component to delete row.
    Steps:
    Drag the first row to the table and appears in the destination table (works well)
    Select and change the value by 156, appears an error (works fine)
    delete the row, the row disappears (works well)

    Case 1
    I drag the first row to the target table (ok)
    The new row appears (ok)
    Enter the value 77 in the InputText (ok)
    id content and value change (ok)
    Case2
    I drag the first row to the destination table
    The new row appears (ok)
    Change the value of the first row by 80 (ok)
    errors appears (by validator) (ok)
    Enter the value 77 in the InputText (ok)
    the id is changed but the value NO (*KO*)
    I do not understand the behavior

  • Adding custom navigation rules results in strange behavior

    Hello,
    We'd like to add navigation rules to our application. To avoid post-JHeadstart-generation-steps we created an extra faces-config-custom.xml file which contains the navigation rules. When adding this file to the web.xml and run the aplication we encounter strange behavior
    - Errors are shown in duplicate
    - 'Transaction completed' messages are not shown
    Try adding the underneath faces-config-custom.xml to a standard HR demo project and you will get the same behavior.
    (1) What is the reason of this strange behavior?
    (2) How can we add custom navigation rules, without having to do post creation steps?

    Leon,
    When you perform a drag and drop operation, JDeveloper adds the following lines to the faces-config.xml:
    <lifecycle>
    <phase-listener>
    Oracle.adf.controller.faces.lifecycle.ADFPhaselistener
    </phase-listener>
    </lifecycle>
    However, JHeadstart uses its own subclass of ADFPhaselistener, and defines the lifecycle element in JhsCommon-beans.xml. Due to a bug in ADF, ADF does not look for the lifecycle element in other files than faces-config, and adds its own element in faces-config.xml If you remove these lines, everything works fine again.
    To prevent this from happening again, you can move the following entry from JhsCommon-beans.xml to faces-config.xml:
    <lifecycle> <phase-listener>oracle.jheadstart.controller.jsf.lifecycle.JhsADFPhaseListener</phase-listener>
    </lifecycle>
    And then make a custom template for JhsCommon-beans.vm where you remove this entry.

  • Strange behavior with Firefox

    Hi Team,
    I am using HTMLDB V2.0 and Firefox V1.5.0.1. I used wizard to create a report/form application. However, when I press a button to update the form all the buttons line up in a vertical row and I then have to press the same button again.
    My application is 30412 at htmldb.oracle.com. The problem is occurring at page 4. Go to page 3 (2nd tab) and select any record. You will be directed to page 4. Then when you press any button (cancel, create, delete, apply changes) on page 4, page 4 is refreshed and the buttons strangely line up in a vertical column. I then have to press the same button again before the update occurs.
    I have the same report/form setup on pages 1 and 2 and it is working fine on those pages.
    This strange behavior is not occurring in IE. I also notice that the font size is bigger in IE .
    I would appreciate any help you might offer.
    I really enjoy working with HTMLDB.
    Thanks, Andy

    Sorry about that. I removed all the authorization schemes from the application. I also changed the authentication scheme to HTMLDB. Let me know if I need to do something more for you to get access.
    Thanks for looking at it.
    I think it may have something to do with the "button, alternative 3" template from theme 3 that I am using. When I switch to the "button" template from theme 3 then the strange behavior goes away in Firefox.

  • Strange behavior with obssocookie on different browser

    Hi,
    I am trying to integrate OAM with our application deployed on WLS. I have set up an IIS proxy server and installed a web gate on it. I have seen a couple of strange behavior
    1) If I try to access some static image file, SSO keeps asking for authentication. It happens for both firefox and IE, but it doesn't happen for chrome though. Looks like for image file request, the obssocookie is not passed correctly. Anyone sees that before?
    2) If I use firefox on the machine where WLS app server is installed to connect to proxy server, if I use hostname in the URL, I don't see the obssocookie. If I use IP address in the URL, I can see obssocookie. If I use IE or any browser from any other machine, obssocookie is always available
    thanks.
    -Wei

    I found it in the document
    B.1 How Logout Works
    The WebGate logs a user out when it receives a URL containing "logout." (including the "."), with the exceptions of logout.gif and logout.jpg, for example, logout.html or logout.pl. When the WebGate receives a URL with this string, the value of the ObSSOCookie is set to "logout."
    The Access System sets an obSSOCookie for each user or application that accesses a resource protected by a WebGate. The obSSOCookie enables users to access resources that are protected by the Access System that have the same or a lower authentication level. Removing the ObSSOcookie causes the WebGate to log the user out and requires the user to re-authenticate the next time he or she requests a resource that is protected by the Access System.
    Well, I havn't got that far in the document:)
    Thanks a lot for your help.

  • 802.1x "MachineorUser" Auth Mode strange behavior in 2950 & 3750 Switches

    Good Day Support Team around the world,
    Having started recently  tests with 802.1x in a lab environment, I noticed  a strange behavior related to authentication. First let me provide you with the network components I used.
    supplicant:                    domain-joined laptop with Windows XP SP3 802.1x embedded client
    authenticator1:              Cisco 2950-24
    authenticator2:              Cisco 3750-24
    authentication server:     MS NPS Windows Server 2008
    1.     In the first scenario with 3750 switch when I connect the laptop to relevant port the machine authentication is successful. Then I try to login with a domain account and again the authentication is completed without any problem. Then I log off and user authentication is revoked and the machine authentication is used again without any issue. When I try to login again as local user the authentication fails as expected but the port remains disabled (port blinking amber) regardless the fact that port is configured for Auth-Fail Vlan. When I log off then the machine authentication is used again and the access is granted.
    2.     In the second scenario with 2950 switch as authenticator, I follow the same steps as before and when I try to login as local user the authentication is failed and the port is assigned the Auth-Fail Vlan (as expected based on configuration). However when I log off it seems that the 2950 switch still use the Auth-Fail Vlan for that port and never authenticates again for machine authentication.
    Could you please let me someone know if this is normal ( I suppose no). Please find attached the relevant debug output from the second scenario.
    Thank you!!!

    Hi,
    basically what happens is that the maximum EAP packet size for communication between client and RADIUS server is negotiated. Therefore, in your case the switch notifies NPS that the client is capable of handling packets up to 9000 bytes in size.
    EAP messages, especially those containing the server certificate, are usually bigger than 1500 bytes and arrive at the switch in multiple fragments:
    Mar  6 15:50:11.881: RADIUS(0000002C): Received from id 1645/41
    Mar  6 15:50:11.881: RADIUS/DECODE: EAP-Message fragments, 253+253+253+253+253+253+253+253+20, total 2044 bytes
    Having learned that 2044 bytes is acceptable for the client, the switch forwards the full message in one chunk, but since your client is likely to have set the interface MTU to 1500, the packet is oversized and never reaches its destination.
    And yes, I think changing the System Jumbo MTU to 1500 bytes would lead to the same result. If my memory serves me right, a new setting takes effect only after a reboot, so I'd suggest giving it a go in your lab first.
    Best regards,
    Josef

  • Strange Behavior of af:inputListOfValues

    Hi,
    I've tried the demo for How-to build Oracle Forms style List-of-Values in ADF Faces RC at [http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/fnimphius/lov/listOfValues.html|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/fnimphius/lov/listOfValues.html] .
    As it's shown in the example if you enter SA_ the JobId field in the LOV is filled with SA_%.
    Yes this happens only the first time you enter a value. After the first time, the result is a blank field.
    Does anybody know how to solve this strange behavior?
    I'm using JDeveloper 11g build 5188.
    Regards,
    JavaDeVeLoper

    Hi,
    I see this too. However, the source code works and it seems to be a refresh issue with the applied criteria
