Strange black and blue bar and New Tab location bar

Hello, I have a few questions that have stumped me.
[1] For some reason I have a strange black bar between my tabs and my location bar. I thought it might be a border, but I have no idea as I've tried to remove borders on a lot of selectors and still nothing. Then again, I want my tabs off the aero windows-ish part. I've put my tabs below the location bar before, but all that did was make the location bar on the aero windows-ish part for some reason.
[2] How do I change the font-style for the location bar in the new tab? Before you start typing it's in italics and I'd like to make the font-style normal. I haven't got a clue on what selector that would be to fix that.
Here's an image of that strange black bar for question [1]

Also, here's another picture of another strange blue bar under the location bar.
http://content.screencast.com/users/ErraticFox/folders/Snagit/media/6eefffb9-0724-479c-80ce-d47245cfd58c/02.15.2014-23.43.png

I don't see how it's a problem with my code, as I don't add borders. I've taken off a border for basically anything I've seen. I even went through my code just now and didn't see anything that effected this. I even tried to had border: 0px !important; to some relevant properties and nothing changed.

  • Pop-ups and new tabs opening when I try to browse

    Hello
I'm having trouble with pop-ups and new tabs for 'Mackeeper' among others, launching themselves in Safari on my MacBook Air. This has only just started after having the laptop for 3 months.
    Operating system: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
Speed: 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Storage capacity: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I have tried troubleshooting by looking in 'Extensions' but there's nothing to remove. I've also tried Forum Member Linc Davis' advice, but unfortunately that's not working either.
I've tried all of the suggestions below, but nothing's working. It is driving me bonkers, so if anyone can help I would be most grateful.
    Thank you
    Jess

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Customising the google search and new tabs inconsistency

    1. Is there a way to customise the google search bar to the effect of what [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/50999/ this] and [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/51000/ this] add-ons do?
    2. I don't like the inconsistency of FF3 when it comes to opening new tabs: CTRL+T opens a new tab at the very right, whereas clicking on a link or searching from the context menu opens the new tab next to the currently open tab. There should be a way to make FF work one way or the other.

  • 2 thinks 1st video stop at 2-3 sec. and new tab is blank

Since I have upgrade firefox, my video stop at 3-4 secondes when starts
2- second TAB always open blanck , not on google pages
    thanks
    Merci
    LR

Regarding the video: is this a problem on all sites, or on Youtube in particular? Does the video resume after pausing or just stop permanently?
Regarding the new tab, here's the hidden setting to point it to Google:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Two gotchas:
    * If Firefox ignores the setting, one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:<br><br>"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    * If the change works but at the next startup is back to blank, you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder), or software which undoes your settings changes. This article describes how to track down and remove a user.js file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]. Software that can undo your changes includes Advanced SystemCare ("surfing protection") and similar utilities/features.
    Any luck?

  • No browser option with mozillab and new tab gives nothing

Mozilla Firefox, the browser, and your profile (contains all of the data, like bookmarks & passwords) are in 2 separate locations.

    # Firefox [[Profiles]]
Before running a [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/update/ Firefox Update], which updates your Program Files Mozilla Firefox, the least that you can do is, [[Clearing private data]] << as to try and make the old profile as compatible as it can be with the new version of Firefox that you're upgrading (updating) to.
If you haven't done this, or whatever happened, for example there are incompatible add-ons - or the whole thing went berserk, like for the OP twilightsmith, then the easiest thing that you can do is run Firefox in [[Safe Mode]].
Check out the links and also the screenshots posted, add-ons can be permanently disabled from the Safe Mode start-up dialog - so you don't have to mess with your profile if it's something more severe than the address bar not showing up.
    Hope it helps!..:)

A new tab only opens when I click a link, but I cannot open a tab at will to start a new page. I used your troubleshooting data, but it did not help. I checked tabs settings in Options and all is checked, and I even reinstalled firefox. What do I do to reset or change settings so the tabs will open?

There is a reported incompatibility between the Ask Toolbar and Firefox 3.6.13 that causes new tabs to not open. This problem needs to be fixed by Ask; they need to update their toolbar add-on for Firefox. Until the incompatibility is fixed by Ask, you can disable the Ask Toolbar or un-install it from your system.

  • Strange black and gray lines and lockup as soon as MBP powers on

I was surfing the web, and opened a particular tab when the 26" Samsung display that I use with my MBP yellowed and just weirded out in general. All of the colors funked out, and all kinds of plaid patterns appeared. Then I had a kernel panic. I disconnected everything from the notebook (FireWire hard drives, audio interfaces, USB drives, USB mouse, etc.) and restarted it.
Now, black and gray horizontally-staggered lines are all that show up on the screen. It happens immediately after the screen lights up. I've zapped the pram, tried to reset the video ram in open firmware mode, reset the SMU, tried to boot from CD, but nothing gets rid of these weird lines. Also, the computer doesn't appear to be doing anything (i.e. if I let it sit, it's still unresponsive several minutes later). If I hold down "Option" when I turn on the MBP, press the "right arrow" key and then hit "enter," the screen turns black and stays black, but caps lock starts responding (neither the internal nor external screen displays anything but black - in fact, the external display doesn't even pick up a signal).
Is this a problem with my motherboard/video card? I have finals coming up and can't really part with this - I hope I don't have to mail it off or take it to an Apple Store (the nearest is nearly 2 hours away). Any help or advice is welcome!

Thank you very much for that article! I'll be sure to print it out and bring it along to the Apple Store on Sunday. The problem occurs whether an external display is connected or not. I think it is a video card problem given that the screen immediately goes screwy; it doesn't wait until after the notebook posts or anything.

  • Can only open 4 tabs in window. Then + button doesn't work, and New Tab greyed-out in menu.

Running Firefox 7.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.1.
Number of tabs that can be opened in a single window is limited. Can't currently open more than four. Clicking the "+" button to the right of open tabs does nothing, and the "New Tab" option in the file menu is greyed out.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Why are the keyboard shortcuts for new window and new tab (N) and (W) instead of (W) and (T) when I right-click on bookmarks in my toolbar?

If I right click on a link in a page, the context menu allows me to open a new tab if I hit t on my keyboard and a new window if I hit w. In the bookmarks menu, these shortcuts change to w and n respectively. Hitting t results in deletion of the bookmark. Can this be changed so it is consistent with the in-page context menu?

You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.

  • Safari and New Tabs

Whenever I click certain links in Safari, for example, Digg.com, it would open the link in a new tab, but when I close the tab, and go back to Digg, it would also load the link and I cannot go back to Digg, I have to use a bookmark. How do I fix this?

Which setting exactly?  I think I have tried every option in Safari > Preferences > Tabs to no avail.

  • BB 10 Browser - Homepage and New Tab options

Hi all I'm hoping someone can answer a couple questions.
First, is it possible to set my home screen to my bookmarks list?
Secondly, can I set my New Tab page to also show my bookmarks list only?
Third, is there any way to make it so when I press 'K' to open my bookmarks list, that the bookmark opens in a new tab by default?
The new tab page choices are not ideal for me, as it shows sub domains which I do not care for when opening a new page.  Opening a bookmark from the bookmarks list replaces my currently open tab, which I do not want often, and I'd rather have old tabs open than replace a current tab that I want to keep.  And if I open the new tab screen then press 'K' for the shortcut it begins to search my history instead of opening the bookmarks screen.
Really, I only need one of these three options to be possible to make my browsing time on the Passport pleasant, but right now I can't find a way to do any of those things!

Actually your idea will work. Create an html file containing the sites you want as a one page web based bookmarks. Email the file to yourself and save it (you get to choose)
Use file browser to open the html file you created
This file will open in the browser and should show you all the sites you want and you can click on them to open the page
Set this page (which is just a pointer to the file) to your homepage (To do this click on the 3 vertical dots icon, select settings, Select Display and Actions, select Current Page)
Set the "On Startup Show" option to My Home Page...
Now when you open the browser it should open to your custom bookmarks html page
    Cheers
    Mike
