Strange clients cant talk to OD master problem

Hi,
I'm running here into a really strange behavior of my OD clients, maybe you can help me to find out whats going on. I have an 10.4 OD master running and multiple clients connecting to it. On the clients I did a bind to the OD. I didn't get an error message and the client is listed on the server. Strangely enough I get no OD information at all on the clients. Users can't log in and no printers are showed.
If I then try to unbind of from the OD master I get an error message that the server can't be reached. So I press the force unbind button. Strange enough afterwards the client is capable of retrieving all information from the master and everything is working as it should.
Any ideas what is going on here? I would prefer to have my clients bound to the master...

Strange eh? OK. I need a bit more information. DNS is configured and running properly? If you are not sure then on the Server launch Terminal and key in:
host [FQDN]
You should see the IP address returned.
host [IP Address]
You should see something like this:
[Ip Address].in-addr.arpa domain name pointer host[IP Address].in-addr.[FQDN].
If you are getting something like that then everything else should be straightforward.
When you promoted from Standalone to Open Directory Master you would have been prompted to create the default Directory Administrator account. Once you did that you launch Workgroup Manager and log into the LDAP Directory Node /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1. Populate this node with desired Users etc. Make sure that the folder to be used for Home Directories is shared and is set to automount for Home Directories. When creating the Users click on Home in and make sure the correct path is selected for Home Folder creation, click Create Home Folder Now and click Save. Verify that that the Home Folder has been created by navigating to the designated folder for Home Directories.
On the client macs, launch Directory Access and click on the LDAPv3 plug in, click Configure, if there is an entry already there, delete it. Click New and key in the IP Address or the FQDN of the OD Master. Server Discovery should be pretty quick. Click on the Authentication and Contacts tabs and verify that the /LDAP/IP Address of OD Master are added. Switch off auto log in, log out and log in by clicking other.
A few pointers. Dont make the administrator account on the clients the same name and password as the administrator account on the server. The Directory Administrator account name and password should not be the same as the Server Administrator account.

I am NOT aware of a general problem with logging in today. I just tried to use my own accounts and they seem to function properly. I tried accounts using non-Adobe credentials and using networks outside the Adobe firewall to make sure this was testing a customer type scenario.
Have your customers previously been able to login?
As an experiment to confirm the validity of the credentials they are using, you could ask them to try logging directly into www.acrobat.com. This would be a good test if they already have an Acrobat.com account.

Did this ever get resolved, as I am having the same issue. Trying to learn LR5 AFTER a decade using Aperture. I was able to set up a validated account but when I try to send an e-mail or photo I get the simple " Failed to Send " message. Using latest version of Mac OS X.

After clicking to send/not send an error report, I get back to the desktop where all appears normal. However, I can no longer access the internet while logged in under this account.
I can log in on another PC with the domain admin account with no error.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to suggest you run System File Checker with command: sfc /scannow to scan and repair the system files.
If it does not work, please also test the issue in Clean Boot.

You do not need to do anything in VS. You do need to configure both tnsnames.ora files, because the drivers do not share any data.

SCCM 2012 Client and Workstation Audio and Video Problems

SCCM 2012 SP1 environment.
We have pushed out the SCCM Client successfully to our systems - however we have found that on some computers the SCCM Client is causing an audio/video problem - specifically it appears to be with computers that connect monitors via DVI. As an example,
on my laptop (Dell e6420, Win7 x64) I have a docking station that connects my laptop to 2 external monitors. With the SCCM Client installed I cannot listen to music or watch videos - the result is an unusable choppiness/stuttering listening to music
and with a video the audio and video get out of sync. As well, my mouse no longer functions smoothly - it jumps around. This happens whether accessing content from a website or simply a local file on my computer. If I uninstall the SCCM client,
the issue goes away entirely. I have tried disabling the SMS and Remote control services but doing so does not resolve the issue, only a client uninstall. Note that this only happens when the laptop is on the docking station - with DVI - it doesn't
happen when the laptop is running without an external monitor or if plugged into an HDMI output device.
At first we believed this was limited to this model of laptop in our environment (Win8 or Win7 - both result in the same problem), but now we are hearing about "audio and video issues" on Dell 990 workstations as well. I believe these stations
have DVI connected monitors. Driver updates do not appear to resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced this in their environment? Note that this happens on imaged workstations and workstations installed from a vanilla Windows 7 or 8 CD.

Try installing the client without Silverlight and see if it helps (this is only used for the Application Catalog).

How do I configure my Windows clients to talk to Mac OS X Server 10.6

We had a MacAuthority technician install the server software for us, but he did not configure the Windows clients to talk to the server. I have tried several approaches, all evidently wrong. Everything I have read says the Windows clients need "open directory" passwords, and he has set them up as "shadow passwords". Heaven only knows what else is messed up. Please someone step me through this -- I will set them up as new users and see if I can make it work that way.

What sort of a resulting configuration or environment are you seeking?
If you're looking to have your Windows clients access storage on your OS X Server and to not authenticate with your OS X Server system, then you can dispense with some of the configuration steps.
However if you're looking to have the same login everywhere (Windows and OS X), then requirements become somewhat more complex.
And which version(s) of Windows? Particularly if you have Windows 7, the options and requirements differ.
It's less common to have Windows configured to authenticate to OS X; it's more common to use Windows Server and its Activie Directory, either in isolation or in combination with an OS X Server in what's called a "magic triangle" configuration. Alternatively (if you do want to set up this direct authentication of Windows and OS X Server and Open Directory), then see Mac OS X Server: Alternatives to Windows NT 4.0 domain control (PDC) technology (HT4945); that uses pGina.
And before you proceed here with any work involving authentication, delegation or related tasks, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities folder, and issue the following non-destructive command to verify your DNS is correct:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
You'll need to specify an administrative password when prompted. Proper local DNS services are central to getting any of this stuff to work, and this command will (non-destructively) indicate if DNS is correct or if there are issues or changes needed.
The OS X Server 10.6 documentation is available from Apple, and that can help provide you with some background in this topic. The 10.6 intro, 10.6 User Management, and 10.6 Open Directory would likely be worth downloading and skimming. Probably also 10.6 File Services, if that's part of your goal. (Running a server isn't quite as no-IT-required as might be hoped, unfortunately. And I don't know of a short cookbook for this stuff; the steps and configurations can vary, depending on your local requirements - apologies on pointing to the docs here.)

the a.m. software adds a new menue into the adobe reader called rights
If I click on it, I get the error: "error on server - failed while saving file"
This software nvever runs beofre on this server.
Do you have an idea about solving this problem?
My next idea: downgrading to older adobe reader version (do you know a good source?)

But older Reader versions can be downloaded from the Adobe FTP site ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/

While on a call, the iPhone display should go black when lifted to your ear. Is this not happening or only happening intermittently?
Have you tried making calls without your silicone case on? Does this make any difference?
You could try updating or restoring the software to try to rule that out as a cause. If the issue remains after restoring then the issue is probably hardware related and may need to be serviced.

Problem binding 10.7 Client to 10.5 OD Master

I have managed to set up the OD Master, DNS is correct, kerberos is running, 10.5 and 10.6 clients can bind and show up in workgroup manager. The 10.7 clients are a pain to bind (for some reason it doesn't automatically add the server to the search policy) once bound though everything looks fine from the client side. However on the server they don't show up in the list of computers.
This is truly driving me bonkers, any ideas, anyone???
I haven't even attempted 10.8 clients yet.

OK, think I've solved it.
mDNSResponder in 10.7 doesn't work the same way as 10.6 or .5, you have to pre-stage the account in workgroup manager first (add new computer). Once that's done you then have to set up the server manually on the client using directory utility as it won't pick up the ldap search path. enter the ldap search path manually and don't forget to add the server to the search policy.
If you still have the directory window open from system preferences - accounts - login options, then after a few seconds you will see the light turn from red to green.
On the server the manual entry for the client won't have a $ after the name but will still be able to mange the mac from within OD.
I haven't tried it but I'm guessing this workaround will work for 10.8 too.

Kayla, check the grill that covers the microphone (bottom left next to charging port) and make certain there isn't any dirt, makeup, spilled soda clogging the grill causing it to fail. My sister had a similar issue with her earphone and while I was in the process of replacing it for the third time I decided to check the grill under a very bright light and it was totally clogged up causing her not to be able to hear her phone calls. Use a Q-Tip dipped in hot water and gently wipe the grill. Just barely moisten it, no need to go crazy with the water. Might as well clean the earphone and speaker on the bottom right too. Anyhow, that could be what your issue is and if so it's a really simple fix. If that doesn't help just replace the microphone. It'd cost maybe $5 and ten minutes of your time to do. Good luck, John
