Strange user account

Hi,
Do you know what purpose the following account is for?
Or is it one very strange account created by anyone else?
Many Thanks & Best Regards, Hua Min

Hello,
if you create a domain with dcpromo on a server OS this account is created. It is for Kerberos authentication required.
Also it is correct that this account is disabled as it cannot be used to logon with. Renaming will also fail.
Authentication is achieved by using tickets that are enciphered with a symmetric key that is derived from the password of the server or service to which access is requested. To request such a session ticket, a special ticket called the Ticket Granting Ticket
(TGT) must be presented to the Kerberos service itself. The TGT is enciphered with a key that is derived from the password of the KRBTGT account, which is known only by the Kerberos service.
So what you see is correct.
Best regards

  • Strange User Account behaviour at Log In - not solved re duplicate thread

This morning I cold booted my laptop and strangely after signing in it declared that it was "Preparing Windows." I was then taken to a desktop with empty Documents etc. folders. Panicking I went to the User Accounts and found all my folders and data intact but not accessible through the "account" I had been forced to log in to. Licensed software that was not installed as multiple user wouldn't show as licensed so I must assume that some sort of default new profile had been created. However, in User Accounts there didn't seem to be anything new.
In addition to my account and that of my wife there were three other folders that I am sure have always been there. (1) Default (with user empty subfolders) (2) An alphanumeric (temp?) folder ... empty except for Appdata / Local / Temp ... itself empty (3) UpdatusUser - used by Nvidia to update the graphics driver (with user empty subfolders) (4) Public - usual subfolders.
I solved the problem by logging out and logging back in with my usual login credentials. (Switching user didn't work).
What happened please and how can I prevent it happening again?

  • Strange User account called "other" appeared

    Hi there,
    I've got a question.
Since several weeks when I start my mac and type my account password I can see an user account called "other" (andere in German/using OS X in German)
I never created such an user account but it's there.
When I try to open the user account it asks me for a name and a password.
Could somebody tell me where this account comes from?
    Thanks:-)

The Guest account settings is not set for Sharing ?
The sharing itself can be set up in System Preferences > Sharing and then File Sharing.

  • Strange user account behavior on Z61M

I use an external firewire based sound card sometimes with my Z61m (PreSonus Firebox).  This last time I went to use it, the application software that I use would not recognize the card as being present.
I went into system, hardware manager, and got a message that I was not signed in as an administrator.  Never happened before.
I have 3 accounts on this machine.  Mine (an administrator account), one for my wife, and one for my son.
When I press the thinkvantage button to and hit the 'system information' button it shows that my son is the current user!
How can this be and does anyone know of a fix for it?

OIM cannot detect deletion directly. Only after running delete recon it comes to know. You can do two things:
    1. Its a rare case, as apart from Admin no one has rights to delete account. If accidentally it happens, you can manually provision user in AD.
    2. You can attach create user task on the complete "c" response of Reconciliation delete received. This will recreate user once its delete is received in OIM. But this will happen for all users then and it's no a good design :) And again it'll depend on target delete recon schedule job

  • Strange glitch involving user accounts on my machine...

Ok, this all started yesterday, I don't know if this is just some weird glitch or if it some sort of function I'm not aware of, that was suddenly activated. There is 2 user accounts on this computer, M(which is myself) and A(my mother)).My father was in my account and was trying to customize it for himself, since I no longer use this ibook. But instead of changing the name in the user settings, he clicks on HD and RENAMES the 'M' tab, as 'rudy'.
I didn't think much of it, but when he updated and restarted the computer, when he logged back into the 'M' account, EVERYTHING was reset to the default settings, as if its never been used before. All bookmarks are gone, itunes is blank, everything was seemingly gone as if another account had just been created from scratch.
It took me a while to notice that when I click on HD there is now 3 accounts now(eventhough when i log in, there is only 2). in the users tab there is a folder for 'M', 'A' and 'rudy' with 'M' being the one that is still displayed as the little home icon.
The weird thing is that when I click on the 'rudy' folder, all his original files, photos and music is all there. I can't locate any of these files in spotlight or anything, but the files are clearly IN this rudy folder and open properly, whilst the 'M' account is completely empty of any photos or music.
Its kind of like one account became two accounts, with all the information being confined to its own folder for whatever reason..
I haven't messed with anything yet, but I'm wondering if this can be fixed? is it possible to get back my original files and settings in this main account? I can easily back everything up and start anew, but there's really a lot of stuff i'd have to sort through, and i'd like to avoid that if possible.

This sounds to me like the 'Rudy' directory is your original 'M' directory. I'm guessing that when you logged on OSX requires a user's home directory to carry the same name as the account it relates to; it couldn't find the 'M' directory so it created a blank one.
I would expect that if you rename the new "M" directory to "M_Blank" or similar, then rename "Rudy" to "M". Log-out and back in again, all will be as before.
Before you do this I would like someone to confirm that the problem doesn't go any deeper. However, that's what I would do, then change the user account name in the correct way using account management.

  • You are unable to log in to the user account at this time

I am facing this problem for some time now. Can anyone give some hints?
By the way. Excuse me for my English. I am not a native speaker.
I have a MacMini with Snow Leopard Server (10.6.7 since yesterday) wired to two iMacs (10.6.7), two PC's running Windows and a Time Capsule/Airport (7.5.2) which is wirelessly connected to a MacBook Air (10.6.7), iPad and iPhone.
The PC's use file sharing (SMB) which works fine.
The Server has some network accounts. Home dir is on the server.
At one iMac, I can log in to a network account. E-mail, iCal on Server, sync with iPad and iPhone. Works fine.
At the second iMac, I can NOT log in to any network account. Window shakes, saying "You are unable to log in to the user account at this time" and "Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred". In Terminal window, I can reach /Network/Servers/do.main.name/Users. Using the Finder, I can access all my files. If I shut down the first iMac, I can log in.
At my MacBook, I can not log in to my network account. In Terminal window, I can Not reach /Network/Servers/do.main.name/Users. I get "Users: Host is down". But using Finder, I have access to all my files. Shutting down both iMacs doesn't help. Airport settings see to be correct.
Where do I have to look. On the Server side? Using Server Admin and Workgroup Manager (from any client) I can not see anything strange. In WGM, multiple login for the network accounts is enabled. I even have Guest Access enabled for AFP (both in the sharepoint and in AFP settings).
    Anyone?

  • I'm having a problem with logging into a FileVault-protected user account after restoring from Time Machine backup.

    Hi all,
My computer had been running really slowly for a while, so I decided to erase the whole hard drive and reinstall the operating system, and then I was going to restore the files I cared about from Time Machine. The main account, which had all my documents and photos, was FileVault-protected. The last thing I did before erasing the hard drive was to run one last Time Machine backup. As far as I remember, I always ran Time Machine backups with the FileVaulted user logged in.
I don't remember whether I was using FileVault 1 or 2. I had been using FileVault 1, but I installed Lion as soon as it came out and I thought I had migrated to FileVault 2 at that point.
Once I erased the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system, I browsed the Time Machine disk and, within the Users folder, there was no folder for the main user account. When I tried to reinstall everything by restoring from Time Machine backup, I'd get the option for all the user accounts, but when I tried to log in with the main one I'd get the dreaded "You are unable to log in to the FileVault user account "User" at this time. Log in failed because an error occurred." Finally, when attempting to restore from the Time Machine backup again, I noticed something strange: After the computer got to about 10% done restoring, it declared itself completed successfully and rebooted.
I've tried a number of tips that came up from questions about similar issues on the Apple support forum, but had no luck. Is there any way to get these files back? Did they ever even get backed up?
    Thanks.

Did you have only the one user account? If there were others, they should also be in the "Users" folder. You probably won't have access to the files inside them, but they should be there.
From what can make out, it looks like it's not backed up any of the files for the filevault account. Can't see user folder when looking through previous backups in Time Machine galaxy view.
Are you doing that from a Finder window set to your internal HD, or your computer name? It should look something like this (with the Finder in List view):
    |
    |
I'd been logging out and backing up manually on a regular basis.
Scheduled backups should run normally; but they won't back up the File Vault sparse bundle, nor will any run manually.
The only time it's backed-up is when you actually log out.
You should have seen this window on logout:
    |
    |
    followed by this one:
    |
    |
If you didn't see the second one, or cancelled it, the account wasn't backed-up.

  • Unable to open user accounts

    Hello All,
I have a strange problem with few Windows server 2008 x64 SP2 machines, where in we are unable to open 'user accounts' from control panel. On opening 'user accounts', a windows explorer window pops up and disappear in a fraction of second.
Tried opening with below command lines and behavior is same as above.
    nusrmgr.cpl
    control nusrmgr.cpl
    RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL nusrmgr.cpl
Could you please assist me in fixing this issue.
Note - Local users and groups MMC opend fine.

    Hi,
Before going further, would you please let me confirm some questions? If start computer in
Safe Mode, can you launch User Account in the safe mode? Meanwhile, please make sure if there are some Group Policy settings that block the user account.
After confirmation, please logon as administrator (if you didn’t use the admin account) and then check if this issue still exists. Meanwhile, please
    run
    sfc /scannow
command to scan missing or corrupted system files and repair them.
In addition, please compare the "System" registry key in the problematic machine with another machine working properly.
    The path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
If there are some missing, please export keys from a machine that work properly and import it into the malfunctioning machine.
Please note: before operations, please backup those registry to avoid unexpected issues.
    Hope this helps.

  • Two user accounts

I recently bought a Powerbook, and used the setup assistant thinking it would transfer my files from my old G4. I realized I needed Panther on the new computer, so after I went through the setup process (where I created a user account), I purchased and installed Panther.
I then went to the migration assistant, setup the firewire, and transferred all of my files from the old computer. This set up a second admin account. I always use the second account, because that's where all of my files are. A stranger thing is happening now. I can't download files through Safari (or IE) when in the second account, but I can with the first account.
I would like to just remove the first account, because I don't need it, but I'm scared that if I do I won't be able to download at all, and something else might go wrong. Can I delete this account? Why can I not download files from the second account? Also, I've tried to set the auto login to the second account, but it won't do it. I can only get it to startup to the login screen or the first account. Help!!! Thanks!

I did try repairing disk permissions, and it didn't work. Apple had me trying a few things and we deleted the first user account and now I can download files in Safari.
The other issue I had before, is that the first account would open Flash, but not the second. Now that I have one user account I still can't get that working. Apple has basically told me there must be some hidden preferences file that has to be deleted and I'd have to talk to macromedia. I am waiting for macromedia to email me some info (?) that will hopefully instruct me on how to fix this. Any ideas? They asked me if I had Nortons running...

  • Can not log into server computer with any accounts - "You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."

I have a Mac mini running the latest version of OS X and Server. Been running fine and flawlessly. However, I had a strange problem with the iCloud preferences panel crashing when I tried to access it, so I rebooted. Now I can not log into the system with any accounts. My master admin account (along with all the others) gives me the error:
You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I am able to see the server from other macs and I can log into it using the same account, but it only shows me a few of the shared folders I have access to but NOT to my main directories.
Rebooting into Command-R and doing a disk utility, I try and repair permission on that drive and get a bunch of errors like:
ACL found but not expected on Users
    Repaired "Users"
ACL found but not expected on Users/.localized
    Repaired "Users/.localized"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared
    Repaired "Users/shared"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared/.localized
    Repaired "Users/Shared/.localized"
    Permissions repair complete.
But rebooting is no joy...same problem. Any idea what is going on or how to repair it? Should I do a time machine restore? Complete new OS X install? Any idea what is causing this or how to salvage it?

Got everything to re-install and it worked fine...for a few hours. Then I came in to find ALL of my network users deleted. Just GONE. Then found out the Open Directory was trashed and was unable to open, recover or restore from a backup. Looks like I may have a bad drive here.
I installed a new drive in the system, re-installed and so far (for a couple of hours anyway) the system seems to be working and stable.

  • Sharing Music between User Accounts

    Hello,
I've been trying to share a single itunes music folder between two accounts on the same computer. I've read dozens of threads on this topic in these forums, and still can't seem to get this to work.
Right now, I'm going back to basics and simply trying to put the iTunes music folder in a Public folder, which can be accessible by both user accounts. I've followed the instructions documented in the following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195
When I do this, I have a problem with permissions. If I move or copy the music folder on one user account to a public folder - when I switch over to the other user account, and access that public folder, some of the individual music folders within the itunes music folder are accessible, and then on others, I am denied permission. There does not seem to be anything unique about the folders that I don't have permissions on, compared to those that I do.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

iMac G5, Mac Mini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
I did a copy paste of the iTunes Music folder into a new iTunes Music folder under Users/Shared. When I switch over to the other user account, I get the same results. Some folders are accessible and some folders I have no access. It's strange as about 25% of the music folders are No Access, and the others are readable.
    Any further thoughts? Thanks,

  • 10.7.2 with AD Mobile User Accounts

    Hi All,
I am experiencing a very strange issue.
I am build MacBook Air operating environments, that bind via a script to a 2008 AD Server. The problem I am experiencing is when the system/Mobile account is removed from the network, the user can no longer access the Accounts Pane in system prefs, it get a message syaing "Preference Error - Could not load Users & Groups preference pane"
Also, if I log out, the Mobile Accout cannot log back in again, but local user accounts are fine.
When I check Directory Utility, under the Directory Editor, the User does not appear, it is like Lion is not creating the account as mobile. I have the AD services pane set up with "Create Mobile Account at Login" enabled, and "Require confirmation before creating a mobile account" diabled.
The part that makes this really weird, is I have a MacBook Pro 10.7.2 image built off the exact same config (I followed the config sheet step for step) - the only difference is the MBA is built off a MBA Retail Bundle (these images are intended for CSS) and the MBP is built of the MBP Retail Bundle.
Has anyone experienced this before, or would be able to give me some clue where I could look for a solution - the school I work at is gearing up to roll out about 600 laptops early next year, and the deadline for a solution to this is getting very close.
    thanks
    Matt

A little bit of more research - it seems it is something int he binding process (most likely in the binding process we use here) that is reset wh the OS is re-inatalled.
    - I used a the MBA Retail bundle to install a system on the computer.
    - I bound the computer to our ad and logged in with a mobile account.
    - I check for failure and confirmed it had the issue I described above.
    - I reinstalled Lion over the top of the system (using the internet download model)
    - The problem was gone.
but.. when I try to build an image around this, I can't reinstall the OS after the system is bound (I am working at a school and with the number of system I am using it is just not practicle)
    so i did the following
    - I used a the MBA Retail bundle to install a system on the computer.
    - I reinstalled Lion over the top of the system (using the internet download model)
    - I bound the computer to our ad and logged in with a mobile account.
    - and the system failed. (the exact same as has been described above)
So I am now fairly stuck on where to go with this...

  • UltraNav and TrackPoint not working for my user account - but ok for others...

Got a strange one on my X201T.  For some reason I can't fathom, my laptop's Trackpoint, Touchpad and all their associated buttons do not work when I log into my laptop - they did before but in the last few days, they've stopped.  My external USB still works fine when connected.
However, if, for example, I do 'ctrl-alt-del' and lock the laptop, they start working again until the moment I'm logged back in.  Also, If I log in on a Guest account, they all work fine!  This suggests it's not the hardware, I think.
I've looked at the Control Panel / Mouse dialogue and the options under the UltraNav tab are all greyed out - but they are not on the Guest account.  Somehow, my user account on the laptop is not allowing me to use the Trackpoint, etc.
My external USB mouse works fine in all accounts, btw.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.  I've updated drivers through Lenovo update (though none seemed related to this problem).
Any thoughts how I can fix this?

kokoko, I had this problem last week. I solved it by removing "thinkpad ultranav driver" and "thinkpad ultranav utility," rebooting and reinstalling them. It hasn't happened again.

  • Data recovery after system restore and corrupt user account.

A few months ago I was in the middle of a school assignment and my HP laptop started acting strange. I would try to move an image and a copy of it would remain in its place. I couldn't delete the picture either, but I could "cut" the image. Well,
I ended up restarting the computer and when I logged on it logged me into a temporary account because my account failed to log on. Not knowing exactly what was going on or what to do we ended up doing a system restore like a dummy and restarted the computer.
Well, when I logged back in everything was gone, all my school stuff was gone. What do I do can I get these back without having to pay a lot of money to do so? I am a single mother of two and there is no way I can afford anything.

I'm assuming that, since this post is 2 years old, rachbutterfly81 has already moved on with her life. But, since this is the second time I've run into this problem, and this is the first time I've found a solution that worked, I thought I would add my two
cents. Of course I do agree that the original response was a little heavy for a mother of two, but it did work for me (with some slight variation that I will get to).
I definitely disagree with Mr. Malotte's statement that all her files were deleted by the system restore. She was obviously logged in under a temporary account, and so all her original files were fine and stored under the same location they always were.
There was no need for her to purchase additional software to "recover" her files when they were all there under her original account name. All she would have had to do to find her files (assuming she was running Windows Vista or 7) was to open her "C:" drive
and navigate to the "C:\Users\" directory and look for the folder with her account name.
Anyway, the first solution worked for me, BUT there is absolutely no reason to delete the original account folder as Magon suggests in step 3!
Simply rename it. Once you finish step 5 and delete the original registry key (I recommend backing it up by right clicking on the key and selecting export), there is no reason to reboot your machine. There are some additional steps to make
life a little easier though. I've added them to a modified version of the original:
    1. If you know you have another administrative account you can use, go ahead and restart your PC to release the locks on your profile. If you don't have another account to use, you can create one by going to "Add or remove user accounts" in the control panel.
Select "Create a new account," name it whatever you want, check the Administrator box, and click "Create Account" (you may want to consider adding a password to this account as well). Now you can restart.
    2. Log on with another administrative account
    3. Rename your original profile to something different. For the sake of simplicity, we'll pretend it was called "myaccount." So, you would rename "C:\Users\myaccount" to "C:\Users\myaccount.original." It really doesn't matter what you name it, so long as it
is different than it was and you can still find it again.
    4. Delete C:\Users\TEMP
    5. Delete the registry key matching your SID from
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList". Check the value "ProfileImagePath" to make sure you pick your own profile.
    6. Log off and then log into your original account. Everything will still look messed up, like before, but it will not warn you that you are logged in under a temporary account.
7.While logged in, navigate to your user directory (not C:\Users\myaccount.original, but the current one you are logged in under, C:\Users\myaccount) and copy any files you see that say "ntuser" in them into your original profile directory (C:\Users\myaccount.original).
Most likely, you won't be able to see any, so you will need show hidden files. Hit
Alt on your keyboard, and you should see the menu bar appear. Select "Tools" and then "Folder Options". Select the "View" tab, and under "Hidden files and folders" check the option to "Show hidden files, folders, and drives." While you are
at it, uncheck the box next to "Hide protected operating system files."
8.Once you've copied the files over, go ahead and log out. You will need to log into your other administrative account once more.
9.Rename the new account (or delete it if you want), and rename your original account back to what it was (so "C\Users\myaccount.original" will be renamed to "C:\Users\myaccount").
    10. Log out and now log in using your original account. Some things may not work as they originally did (for instance, I had to log into dropbox again and go through the setup process), but most things will. Most importantly, all your files should still
    be there.

  • Remote / Home Sharing not working on a particular user account

I have recently purchased a new MacBook Pro 13" (Core i5) and I'm having issues using the Remote app on my iPhone 3GS, as well as using Home Sharing. I used Migration Assistant to transfer my account and files across from my previous MacBook (with which I never had any Remote or sharing issues).
If I try to connect using Remote it says "Remote can't connect to your iTunes library. Check your network settings and try again". Strangely, if I open the Remote app immediately after starting iTunes, it will work for about 15 seconds and then lose the connection.
For Home Sharing, if I try to click on "Shared" using my iPhone's iPod app, as soon as I click on my library it simply says "Cannot connect to Media library". Again, if I click on shared as soon as iTunes starts, I can select my library, which will then load, but once loaded it just cycles through any albums I choose without playing the tracks (e.g. it just silently shows each track name in turn for about half a second until the end of the album is reached).
As a test, I created a new user account, and when using that account these features seem to work fine. I have tried everything obvious, and have tried reinstalling iTunes and the Remote app. I have no firewall, and am properly signed into Home Sharing on all devices. As a test, I also just tried using my old MacBook again with the same iPhone, everything functions as expected. The problem seems to be directly related to this user account. Any ideas anyone?!
    Thanks!

May of found a fix (could be temporary but is working fine for me).  I had issues with itunes - iphone (remote app).
    - Turn on Home sharing on iPhone
    - Turn off Home sharing on Mac in itunes
    - On iphone (remote app) Click Add an itunes library manually
    - iPhone will appear in itunes device list - choose and setup (using passcode)
    - Now turn on hone sharing again.
    Should be working.
