Strange UUIDs

I'm looking at the Server Admin Tool on My Snow Leopard server.  In the Services tab of the Access page I'm seeing a big stack of UUIDs that I hadn't noticeed before (see the attached screen capture).  I'm wondering how these got there and what they're for.  I searched through all the Snow Leopard Server PDF manuals I have and I didn't see anything helpful there.
Thanks!

I'm on Server 10.6.8
Here's the output:

Ok, Mr. Happy Duck, mouse over to the Apple menu in the top/left corner, select About this Mac. Click on More Info... then on System Report... The Hardware overview should give you all you need.

  • MacBook Pro (Early 2011) behaves strange after GPU replacement

I have an early MBP 2011 and had the GPU issue. After Apple finally announced the replace program I immediatelly went to a a stor and the fixed it. But now my System acts very strangely ever since. Here a list of all the strange things:
    - The overall performance is not as good as it was bevore
    - Yosemite allways asks for my iCloud Password on startup. If I enter it, the message just reappears. this happens till I click on "cancel" twice! (In the accounts settings everything is running and all the options in the iCloud menu are checked)
    - the spotlight search does not work anymore. If I enter something and press Enter nothing happens except spotlight is freezing on the spot for some time till it disappears.
    - Safari, iTunes and Mail have no, of very little, internet connection. But the strange thing is: Chrome does!!!
    - Finder sometimes does not work correctly. I have to restart it quite often (I never had to do this before) and sometimes it does not react when clicking on the dock icon.
For me all this makes no sense. What is wrong with my system?
I should mention: I built in 8GB of ram (over two years ago) and I put an SSD in and removed the optical drive (over a year ago). I use the TRIM enabler for the SSD.
    Thanks for any help!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Mac Pro 3,1 - freezes, shows strange pixels on screen and then restarts

My Mac Pro 3,1 sometimes freezes and shows strange pixelated objects on the screen and then restarts by itself. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue?
I'm running OS X Mavericks on it and everything is up to date. I have a lot of saved professional audio work on it that needs to be done and I can't afford to get a new Mac Pro. Any please help me out! Thanks a lot.

Yes, there was a kernel panic today again.

  • IDoc to JDBC scenario strange bahaviour

    Hi Experts,
My Scenario is IDoc to JDBC,
I am creating some vendor masters in ECC, CREMAS IDoc sent to PI, mapping everything executed perfectly but data not posted in to data base, it is taking min 20 mnts to post data.
When I monitor communication channel it is initiated and status (Dlvg) but after 20 mnts only it is showing message data posted successfully in Data base.
What I observed was in MONI, IDoc initial status shows still awaiting for acknowledgement, after 20 mnts status changed to Acknowledgement not possible, at this time data posted to ODS.
Why this is happening, it is really strange behaviour.
When I reprocess IDoc using WE19 without delay data posted to data base and IDoc status in moni " ack not possible.
    How to solve this issue.
    Toa a Thanks advance,
    Jam

    Problems facing....
My cinema HD is set to primary display and Cinema as 2nd display. Everything was working fine but suddenly my 2nd display stopped working. It remains black as if its in sleep mood. The small power led light on the monitor is On(not blinking). In Graphics/Displays shows both monitors are connected. I can drag any window to the 2nd display as if its working but its still black. In display preferences it shows both monitor on arrangement section. I can even change the resolution size of both monitors.
My cinema display monitor has no problem. I have checked it already. I have swapped the DVI ports at the back of my cpu but it seems only the 2nd port is giving this problem. As if no matter what my 2nd port of graphics card is on sleep mood. I have taken it to our local apple center and both ports were working fine there, the only difference is they checked it using none apple lcd monitor. But when I brought it back to office, it had the same problem again. The strange thing is....one day while I was working the 2nd display suddenly appeared but when I restarted my mac, it went back to the same problem. Till now my 2nd display not showing anymore. I have reinstalled to new OSx but the problem remains. So can anyone pls tell me how I can solve this problem.
    thanks

only the 2nd port is giving this problem
You have an older card, and the second port is flaky. The problem follows the port.
I am sorry to be so blunt, but the problem is YOU.
No one wants to be the one to club you on the head and point out that your card is dying, and you are going to have to get a new(er) one. There is no "quick fix" for dying Hardware, and no fix at all for you when you will not connect the dots and realize your card is on its last legs.
If running 10.6.4 or later, you can install the 5770 and it will work, but not at quite the advertised speeds if your slot will only go up to 8x.

  • I seem to have inherited a lot of issues from previous macs i've had over the years resulting in my present iMac (21" 2.9Ghz i5) behaving strangely! Its slow on start up, and safari settings seem to reconfigure themselves ?? Any idea's ??

    iMac 2.9Ghz intel i5
    8GB
    21.5"
Data migrated from a macbook pro and previously from an older iMac.
Can I restore to a clean start-up and re-install apps (docs, photo's music etc)from time machine without
bringing the issues that are causing a few issues.
ie Some web sites will not open ( I have checked that the sites are live).
    Slow start up.
Some web sites ask me to check cookies- I've not changed them, and the problem is not constant ? (Safari is main browser).
    Any advice gratefully received.
    Tony

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • VERY strange behavior - HELP!

I don't know if anyone can help, but I have had some VERY strange Powerbook this afternoon while doing some Word processing. I was doing a quick search on the internet, when web pages would not load and applications became EXTREMELY SLOW. It was almost as if I had lost my internet connection, but everything was fully connected and fine. Anything action that I took brought up the spinning pinwheel of death. After force quitting all of my apps. and trying to restart, I continued to get the spinning wheel. After leaving the PB for nearly five minutes, the wheel was still spinning and restart did not happen.
I finally held down the power button until it shut down. After restart, I repaired permissions and received the following, which I thought was strange:
    Disk Utility started.
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
    Determining correct file permissions.
parent directory ./Users/Shared/SC Info does not exist
We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./Library/Widgets. New permissions are 16877
Permissions differ on ./private/var/log/secure.log, should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r-----
Owner and group corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    Permissions corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./usr/lib/php/build/acinclude.m4. New permissions are 33060
I understand the "special permissions" is due to the latest security update, but the secure.log concerns me. Any ideas?
Here is part of the system log as well. Any help would be much appreciated. Based on the sys.log towards the bottom, it almost looks as if there was some kind of attempted security breech on the system?
    Thanks,
    Joe B

  • [SOLVED] Pacmanager error after uuid update

I have been using pacmanager for awhile and have had no issues with updates to its dependencies. Today an update to uuid came and I started getting errors when trying to start pacmanager. So I went to the AUR page noticed someone previously had the same issue and they solved by rebuilding the AUR packages that were dependencies. I went through that and did not getting any further in the solving of the problem, also tried rebuilding all the dependencies as well as the main package after they were rebuilt still to no avail. Can anyone shed some light on what I am missing here, I feel like it should be obvious but for some reason is evading me.
    Can't locate OSSP/uuid.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/share/pacmanager/lib /usr/share/pacmanager/lib/ex /usr/share/pacmanager/lib/edit /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/share/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/core_perl /usr/share/perl5/core_perl .) at /usr/share/pacmanager/lib/PACMain.pm line 39.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/share/pacmanager/lib/PACMain.pm line 39.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/bin/pac line 35.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/pac line 35.
So as you see it seems to not being able to find something from uuid. Thanks for any help or smacking me to realize what I am missing here. Also I did verify what it is looking for does not exist on my system.
    EDIT:
While trying to still sort this out I have run into something that seems "weird" to me I was looking over the uuid package just a moment ago, and the AUR page stats it was uploaded first today, yet it has been installed on my box before today? I know the package I maintain on AUR actually shows when it was first submitted normally. How could this have been used as a dependency before this but was initially submitted the 8th yesterday? It may be nothing just seems strange to me, also if it was submitted on the 8th its all ready been orphaned.
    EDIT2:
Well after lots of tinkering around I cloned the AUR repo to get the -8 version of uuid to see if I could notice what had changed through the update. I noticed that configure was missing the --with-perl call which is why I was missing the file that I was. But the part that I still do not get is how can an unmaintained packaged get updated, and with major changes. It got a new patch and a new PKGBUILD between -8 and -9. I am trying to sort through what the actual differences are with the patches as time permits for me, if I can confidently say why the changes took place I will take over the package as well, but honestly at this point I am at a loss for why the changes that were done took place on the 8th.

Not really sure what is/was up with that. I took over maintaining the package in the AUR though. I fixed it for pacmanager to build the perl parts properly. We will see how it goes.
It is possible though that is what happened is it went from [community] to AUR. Just always thought it was an AUR package to being with, I could be wrong though.

  • Strange Grub-problem

    Hi
I installed kernel25-lqx from AUR but when I try to boot it I get "Error 15 file not found". Grub not installed or wrong menu.lst you think? now check this:
    menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd1,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f4e364a2-bc0f-4ece-aabe-d61a57fbab16 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
    # (1) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux lqx
    root (hd1,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26-lqx root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f4e364a2-bc0f-4ece-aabe-d61a57fbab16 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26-lqx.img
    # (2) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux RT
    root (hd1,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26rt root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f4e364a2-bc0f-4ece-aabe-d61a57fbab16 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26rt.img
    # (3) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux Fallback
    root (hd1,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f4e364a2-bc0f-4ece-aabe-d61a57fbab16 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26-fallback.img
    # (4) Clonezilla
    title Clonezilla live on harddrive
    root (hd1,3)
    kernel /live-hd/vmlinuz1 boot=live live-config noswap nolocales edd=on nomodeset ocs_live_ru$
    initrd /live-hd/initrd1.img
    boot
    boot-dir:
    [studio@myhost boot]$ ls
    grub kernel26-lqx.img System.map26-lqx vmlinuz26rt
    kernel26-fallback.img kernel26rt-fallback.img System.map26rt
    kernel26.img kernel26rt.img vmlinuz26
    kernel26-lqx-fallback.img System.map26 vmlinuz26-lqx
the strange thing is that I can boot option (0) and (2) without any problem, while option (1) gives me error 15.....and as you can see partition, UUID, directory are the same.
how do you explain that one?

    crazy thing
    I found out the problem.
I have 2 Sata-Drives, root is on the second while on the first is a clone of root. No here is the strange thing: In bios I declare the second sata as first in boot sequence. This makes grub think it is (hd0,0) it seams. As i have root=(hd1,0) grub read the kernelimages from the clone (it seams). Than  later in the bootprocess the kernel itself looks at the right place, but as the image loaded is 2.6.36 it doesn't find the correct modules.
Now I changed in menu.lst the line to "root   (hd0,0)" it succesfully boots from SDB1!!!!!!!
I have to apologize as it was a grub-thing, but nobody can expect such a strange behaviour from grub

  • A stranger is showing up under "Shared" in my network

A stranger is showing up under "Shared" in my network. "Frank's Macbook Pro."  I don't know anyone named Frank and my internet connection (comcast) is secured.  I looked under "preferences/sharing" and didn't find a way to "Frank's Macbook Pro" from showing up. Advice? I'm a newbie. Please explain simply. Amy

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
At or near the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "System Version." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • Strange permission(?) problem

    Hello,
bought Lacie Porsche 2Tb and formatted into 2 partitions with diskutility.
One partition used with CarbonCopyCloner, the other for Time-machine.
PROBLEM: after about 20 minutes the time-machine partition is mounted and working well, it becomes unwritable.
By that I mean that I can't write or erase (obviously backup fails) but can read.
Also as root, also from Terminal using cp, rm etc. (specifically the error is "invalid argument" whatever I try to cp, or rm)
Need to force unmount (does not unmount nicely, although lsof reports nothing).
Thinking it is a permission problem have already:
    reformatted,
repaired all that one can repair (no problems reported).
    Also, strange thing (maybe related?)
    ls -l /Volumes
    reports (myname is the username)
    drwxrwxr-x   9 myname  staff   374B Dec 16 01:57 Time-Machine/
    but
    sudo ls -l /Volumes
    reports
    drwxrwxr-x   9 _unknown  _unknown   374 Dec 16 01:57 Time-Machine
    (OSX 10.6.8)
I am not totally clueless around osx/Unix, but this one baffles me.

Ok, I report that this seems to have been resolved (maybe it will help others...)
The problem was the firmware of the drive  (LaCie Porsche P'9230). It needs a firmware update that can be found on LaCie's support/download page.  I have updated and the problem has not recurred (..yet..).

  • Strange installer process takes CPU away

I once tried to download paint onto my Mac computer and then that is when things started getting slow, like I think it became kind of laggy, I ended up going to the task monitor thing and saw that there was a process called installer which was taking up a lot to CPU, I ended it but I decided to test around and hope that I fixed the problem, but I found out that every time I moved something random and useless from downloads into the trash, the process comes back, I didnt really move stuff from the downloads stack thingy until now, but I might of done it once or twice before without any problem, also I think it once started without me even moving anything from downloads to the trash, this is weird, how to I make that stop???
I'm not sure if I explained that right

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure.
All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) on the advice of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

  • Strange animation on boot

    Hi guys,
I use LightDM as my Login Manager with Cinnamon.
I have this strange issue where just before LightDM loads i get a grey background with a spinning wheel?
I have a video of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQNERl-sOl0
It only lasts for a couple of seconds but id like to know what the hell it is!
I can't find anything responsible for it.
Here is a list of everything that is enabled on boot -

Thanks for getting back to me
Disabling LighDM and running via xinitrc get's rid of it.
Although for some reason using xinitrc Cinnamon will only load into software rendering mode?
So this must be something caused by LightDM?

  • [SOLVED] mtab forgets device via UUID

    Hello,
my hd is mounted via UUID (seems to be standard with arch installation), its just that for one of the partitions the UUID is nozt changed into a device-name like /dev/sda3.
So if I do a df the output is:
    udev 10240 216 10024 3% /dev
    /dev/disk/by-uuid/8d2a1a14-7050-41d3-b7ca-f5460ab6770e
    10323128 4663572 5135272 48% /
    shm 1019152 0 1019152 0% /dev/shm
    /dev/sda4 142416680 6951072 128231260 6% /home
    /dev/sda1 64240 14662 46252 25% /boot
same is true for /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts. At which time is the name-switching between UUID and normal device names made?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

for me in every output I can only find the UUID for /dev/sda3:
    findmnt -rnu -o SOURCE,TARGET,FSTYPE,OPTIONS
    proc /proc proc rw,relatime
    sys /sys sysfs rw,relatime
    udev /dev devtmpfs rw,nosuid,relatime,size=10240k,nr_inodes=218530,mode=755
    /dev/disk/by-uuid/8d2a1a14-7050-41d3-b7ca-f5460ab6770e / ext4 rw,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered
    devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,relatime,mode=600,ptmxmode=000
    shm /dev/shm tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime
    /dev/sda4 /home ext4 rw,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered
    /dev/sda1 /boot ext2 rw,relatime,errors=continue
    and also
    cat /proc/self/mountinfo
    12 15 0:3 / /proc rw,relatime - proc proc rw
    13 15 0:12 / /sys rw,relatime - sysfs sys rw
    14 15 0:5 / /dev rw,nosuid,relatime - devtmpfs udev rw,size=10240k,nr_inodes=218530,mode=755
    15 1 8:3 / / rw,relatime - ext4 /dev/disk/by-uuid/8d2a1a14-7050-41d3-b7ca-f5460ab6770e rw,barrier=1,data=ordered
    18 14 0:10 / /dev/pts rw,relatime - devpts devpts rw,mode=600,ptmxmode=000
    19 14 0:15 / /dev/shm rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime - tmpfs shm rw
    20 15 8:4 / /home rw,relatime - ext4 /dev/sda4 rw,barrier=1,data=ordered
    21 15 8:1 / /boot rw,relatime - ext2 /dev/sda1 rw,errors=continue
Where is the source for all of this?
Also, blkid does know the right translation:
