Stream behavior
Hello,
We are working on Oracle 9i stream technology for data replication between two remote sites, in bi-directional replication mode.
After comparing the behavior of the system before configuring Streams and after the same, we found it has generated 20 times more redo data than the normal set up. e.g. after reading the ARCHIVE logs using logmnr, we found in normal set up, for one DML there was average 5 changes in data dictionary. But with streams this figure has reached to the average of 17 modifications.
Could anyone give me rough stats abt this behavior for well planned system ? How could I avoid generation of so much of redo ? It will be of great help if I could get the same before taking up the assignment of bi-directional data replication.
Thanx
If you objects are really small you might want to try setting tcp_nodelay to true (you set it by a method on the socket object). When it's false (the default I think), the tcp/ip mechanism will wait until a full tcp packet is ready, and then send it. Setting it to true will send it immediately.

Photo Stream Behavior Win 7/iCloud
I have 2 iPhones setup exactly the same (pretty sure), one with my iCloud account, the other with my wife's iCloud account.
I've got iCloud/photo stream setup on a windows 7 system, and everything has been working well, but....
Just today i noticed when i cleaned off all the photots from my wife's iPhone (photo stream and camera roll), that all her photo just vanished from the "My Photo Stream" directory on windows.....
This is new behavior as it has never happened before, further more, when i do the same with my phone, the photos stay.
Logged in and out of both of our iCloud accounts on the PC several times, and it always deletes my wife's photos, and never mine.
Is there some sort of setup option that I am missing here?
Odd!I think I have found the reason for our problems? Photo Stream will only upload photos with a "Date Taken" date higher than the date when you initialised or when you last reset your Photo Stream. So if you are trying to upload older photos it won't work, They should be fresh out of the oven to be Photo Streamed.
I have managed to Photo Stream older pictures by using windows to copy and remove all Properties and Personal Information then setting the Date Taken to todays date before mobing the photo into the Upload folder. Still, it seems a little hit and miss so there's probably something else being checked to validate photos can be Photo Streamed.
So iCloud will move photos between your Windows 7 machine and your iOS5 device but it's a little picky about which ones it will allow. If you can figure out what exactly are the parameters please do tell. -
Bizarre Streaming Behavior / Device Won't Stream
I haven't used my Apple TV in a week or so, but last time it worked fine. I've made no changes to any network or device settings. Today, however, here's what's happening. I'd make it shorter, but this is the best I can do:
I can turn it on and navigate it without problems, but if I try to stream by tapping the Play button (Netflix, HBOGo, YouTube) the screen goes blank for a split second then reverts to the screen with the Play button. The only time it behaves differently is in Trailers, where for a brief second I get the green MPAA Ratings screen and the time/progress bar suggests that it's begun to buffer.
If I go to "Music" then I get stuck on the spinny loading screen. Blank cover art and it says Untitled / Unknown Artist. The graphic flips from side to side as it normally should and hitting the Menu button gets me back to the menu, so the unit itself is still responsive.
I have already done a factory restore. That worked for a few seconds when I tested Netflix, but then I left the video satisfied that I'd fixed the issue and went about restoring my other accounts. The moment I left Netflix I got blank artwork and Untitled / Unknown Artist on the bottom left corner, overlaying the normal menu graphics. When I look at my Apple Remote app on my iPad it suggests I'm playing music right now (again, Untitled / Unknown) but I didn't hit a play button, select a song, etc. I can pause it, but after a few seconds it goes back into Play mode. If I try to play music from my iTunes library and stream it through the Apple TV then the music plays, but through my Mac mini's internal speaker, despite how I've set it in Mavericks.
I'm at a total loss. Advice?Just got off the phone with support. Switching from Ethernet to wifi has fixed it at least for the time being. Will have to try a few options to get it back to my preferred hard wired setup.
I'id delete this thread but I don't see the option. -
Strange object stream behavior - please help
I have implemented client/server code for a Web application that retrieves check images from a mainframe. The client (on my app server) sends request objects via an ObjectOutputStream to the server component (the image server), where the request is processed to produce a response object, which is then sent back across another ObjectOutputStream to the client. Usually the application works great, but every so often I get the following strange behaviour -
A request object gets to the server and is processed, but then the response object sits on the server and will not return to the client. However, as soon as another request object is sent to the server, the 1st response object immediately returns to the client. Then, the response object for the 2nd request hangs on the server, and so on and so on. The only way I have found to fix this is to reboot the entire machine (Windows NT). Simply restarting my server component will not help.
Usually this will only happen after I have stopped and restarted my server component and then not every time. However, today it seems to have started happening without any restart of the server component which has me very confused.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this strange behaviour would be greatly appreciated. I can post some of my code if absolutely necessary, but since it involves multiple different classes this would probably only serve to confuse.Wild guess: Does your server do a flush() after
writing the response object?Yes - every time. Besides, as I wrote above, this behaviour doesn't occur all the time, just every so often. -
What is best way to extract a still from a video clip
In a iMovie project there is a frame I would like as a still photo. Can I extract it from iMovie?
You can do it in iMovie '09 too. To export your still frames as JPEGs:
Choose Share > Export Using QuickTime.
Type a title for your movie in the Save As field.
Select the location where you want to save your movie. If the location you want doesn’t appear in the Where pop-up menu, click the blue Arrow button to the right of the Save As field, and then navigate to the desired folder.
Select the file format you want to export to from the Export pop-up menu (Select "Movie to Image Sequence)".
Click Options to see the default settings for compression, quality, key frame rate, frame reordering, encoding mode, and dimensions.
To change the compression settings (known as the “codec”), including quality and frame rate, click Settings (this option isn’t available for all export formats), and then specify your settings. Depending on the export format you choose, you see different codecs and compression options. If you select “Movies to QuickTime Movie” as your export format, you can make the following adjustments:
To change the compression type, frame rate, key frames, data rate, and compressor quality, click Settings. Setting a low key frame number (such as every ten frames) creates a better-quality movie with a larger file size. Set the frame rate last; you might get choppy-looking video playback if you set the frame rate to less than about 12 frames per second. Higher quality compressor settings result in a larger file size for your movie.
To add filter effects, such as blur, color adjustments, or “aging,” click Filters, and then select a type of filter from the list and make your adjustments. Any filters you apply affects the entire movie. You see a preview of your changes as you work.
To set the frame size, click Size, and then select a dimension setting from the pop-up menu and whether you want to preserve letterboxing. This size setting affects the overall size of your movie.
To export a silent movie, deselect Sound. Or select it, and then click Settings to change the default sound export settings, including format, sample rate, sample size, and channels.
If you will not be streaming this video on the Internet, deselect “Prepare for Internet Streaming.” Or select it, and then select a streaming type. If you select Hinted Streaming, you can further specify streaming behavior, including payload encoding, packet size, packet duration, QT metadata interval, repeat packets, and repeat interval.
After setting your preferences for export, click Save.
To learn more about working with compression settings and QuickTime, see the topics on exporting files in QuickTime Help. To open QuickTime Help, open the QuickTime application and then choose Help > QuickTime Help. -
Wipe Disk, install new OS, import some items from Time Mach.
I read in another thread to use disk utility to zero my hard disk in the following manner:
Creat another Admin User
Use "erase" function to delete the space where my curretn user lives
This is the best way to rid one self of legacy root junk that may be glomming up the OS's performance?
I'm pretty sure I want to do this as my Mac-mini has never performed well in the almost two years I've had it.
My main concern is I can't stream video from some sources with out pauses:
Cable company has come out,
Signal is good to my cable modem,
Burst speeds in brower speed tests are 55 Mbps down.
I don't havev any shaping of my signal going on
I'm thinking the poor streaming behavior might be the Mac Mini?
(I know this is a can of worms and I'm not giving a lot of info on why the Mac-mini is not running well or on the other item presenting poor performance, however, my goal is smply to wipe the drive and re-install. Not to spend time disagnosing the Mac. Please see below)
I suspect the poor performance is because I installed an archived OS/User from a previous iMac.
Could this in fact be the case?
I am planning on only importing from Time Machine what I need and not doing a full install of my back up
Can I easly isolate, in the Time Machine back-up:
Bookmarks
Autofilled passwords
iTunes library and audio files
Documents
Applications
I'm guessing I then somehow have to download the OS from the App. Store?
Your tips, experience and input are greatly appreciated.1. Wipe the drive and reinstall the OS using Internet Recovery. Do this first, before you import anything from TM.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
2. Once you have a functioning OS you will be asked if you want to bring data in. Select the source (your TM back up) and designate what you want imported - Settings will bring in your personal settings that were saved.
3. With bookmarks you can use the import function in the browser.
4. For iTunes, see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
5. Applications - same as 2.
6. Individual files and documents - you can drag and drop from TM to the new drive.
Time Machine creates a duplicate of your files. You navigate through TM to find stuff in exactly the same way as you navigate through your main drive. Suggest you use column view - navigation is much easier this way. -
After update AppleTV 2 to 6.0 cannot sign in
After updating to Apple TV Software Update 6.0 two days ago, I see the Photo Stream behavior..., but I'm unable accept the new iCloud Terms of Service.Trying to use it with my valid account name and password,but nor of them is working,so I can't accept the terms???
What I have to do? Thank you...Just in case someone goes down the same road as me, my problem was actually the one listed on the page below. My threads are not being released after a StandardContext reload. Which I'm not sure if this leak applies to tomcat version <4 or not.

Exceptions, odd behavior of streaming data to outputstream
I have a servlet which writes mp3 data to the dataoutputstream of a servlet response object. For some reason, the servlet method writes the data out and gets an exception. Then the method/servlet is called again automatically and begins to write the data out again. The exception is below. In the end the mp3 is delivered to the client fine, however with server side exceptions and odd behavior.
try {
int len = 0;
resp.setContentType("audio/mpeg");
String filename = req.getParameter("file");
File mp3 = new File(mediaDir + filename);
byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(mp3);
DataOutputStream o = new DataOutputStream(resp.getOutputStream());
while( (len = fis.read(buf)) != -1) {
o.write(buf, 0, len);
o.flush();
resp.flushBuffer();
o.close();
fis.close();

Edited by: black_lotus on 19-Feb-2009 3:08 PMThere are some versions of some browsers (MS IE) that can call a servlet twice; they only look at the headers at the first request, in order to decide whether to display a "save or open" dialog, or some such reason. Try different browsers; also log the User-Agent header to see if it is "contype", which is present when the multiple request thing happens.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q293792
"Connection reset" can also happen if the client closes the connection without reading the entire response. Occasional resets will happen as users cancel download.
Not a source of exceptions but something you may still want to consider when sending large responses: by default, the servlet container will have to buffer the entire file in memory to find out its length. To save memory, either set content length before writing the data, or use chunked encoding (google should find details.) That way your write() actually streams data to the user. -
Photo stream strange behavior???
The last ten days I took some pictures with my iPhone 5! All of them have been uploaded to my iCloud according to my iPhone.
But in my Mac running mountain lion and iPhoto 9.4.3, photo stream is empty. (I tried turn off turn on). So I tried on my older Mac book running lion and iPhoto 9.3.2. After I created a new iPhoto library it started downloading photos from the cloud. BUT it wasn't the photos of the last days but some very old photos. It drives me crazy 3 devices and not a single image is the same (including Mac which has none). BUT it wasn't the photos of the last days but some very old photos. The photo stream may differ on all devices, depending on when it has been turned on. See:

No video stream when calling 3rd party endpoint from Jabber client
I use my own H323 client based on the H323Plus open source. It works very well with VCS and all endpoints we tried (a dozen or so from every vendor). We have a problem with Jabber Video though, across all versions from MOVI to 4.4.3. When my own client calls Jabber everything works as it should. However, when Jabber calls my client then (1) it takes up to a minute for Jabber to display incoming video and (2) Jabber does not create outgoing video stream. This behavior is 100% reproducible across all PCs we tried. Jabber is registered with either VCS Starter Pack or VCS Control, sofwtare version 6.1 in both cases. We do not use provisioning at this time.
In Jabber logs there is a unclear hint about insufficient resources (bandwidth?) for the video stream. VCS configuration is fine (it works with all other clients like e20) and I do not see anything useful in VCS logs.
To narrow the discussion, this is NOT a firewall, client camera or driver, OS misconfiguration or any other external issue. It is Jabber video having problem negotiating capabilities and/or resources but only it initiates the call. Where should I look for a solution?I was afraid this will end this way. I hoped you might have had such a case solved already :-).
Audio works fine, no problem at all. The video packets are not sent from my client to Jabber while in the 1 minute wait; the stream from Jabber is not even started. I still think I need Wireshark to decode H225 traffic. Good idea with the interworking log - I was too lazy to go the OS layer. As you surely know, only 2 of the VCS logs are available from the Web interface.
thanks for your help! -
Hyperion Smart Cut Session Issue streaming multiple reports at a time using
This is a lengthly post with details, Please review with Patience:
We are trying to integrate Workspace based web Analysis reports within our intranet portal, thru portlets (made from individual workspace smartcut link), so that users can customize their page as needed, Once they login thru intranet, Cookie is set and passed to succeeding smart cut links via secured http headers. This part is fine, but mainly running into issue with streaming several multiple web-analysis reports at a time,+ we are using Iframe to display and stream multiple individual reports on to one page, but unfortunately all Iframes are sharing one session rather than creating individual session, mostly because of limitation of current web analysis system architecture and IE browser behavior with sessions .
Which Hyperion reporting tool does allow to stream multiple reports at a time? ideally we want to create Iframe of each workspace report so that users can customize and pick portlets as needed. To stream multiple reports at a time.
Problem Description: Hypeiron Web Analsysis, Smart cut reports incorrectly rendering images and intermixing dash boards on POV changes upon multiple reports being diplayed at one time thru Iframe's, issue seem to mostly relate to Hyperion using single session rather to multiple session when displaying several web reports at a time.
Steps Needed To Reproduce:
User logs into workspace.
user click on expolore and able to view the report without any issues.
When right on any of the report and select properties.
Select the SmartCut url and paste it in the Internet explorer.
The webanalysis report opens without any issues.
Similarly user copies the smartcut url for a different report and paste the link on a different tab or new window of same browser.
The report on the first tab gets over written of the report of the second tab of the browser.
The issue happens when two different reports and opened on a browser with multiple tabs. The reports get over written.
Oracle development answer:
In the described scenario opening new browser window does not spawn a separate independent browser session. A new browser window is supplied with URL pointing to the same domain, so all browser cookies including the "ORA_WA_SID" (WA session cookie) are shared between the windows. But multiple application instances cannot run in the same browser session simultaneously because of session sharing. This is not actually a defect, but rather a limitation of current system architecture and browser behavior. And there is no way to fix it programmatically on the product side.Hi MeHyper,
Your current arrangement puts most of the session handling and persistence on the client. This forces you to accept whatever the client decides to persist and propogate between browser elements (in this case iframes).
My approach would be to:
Consider coding your portlets to manage the sessions. Manage using a somewhat stateless strategy so that each request to the server requires a login and connect, retrieve, and disconnect. Each Iframe should access a different portlet url (or provide a different query) based on its content.
This way, in theory, you can invalidate the sessions and related cookies and update the various report elements independently.
Is smartview out of the question here?

Safari crashes when trying to play streams... HELP?
Hi guys.
When trying to just watch streams online on certain sites, safari just crashes and I get an error message.
When clicking the appropriate link, it seems to want to load a new page called 'adcash.com' and then crashes.
When new windows opened up before upgrading to Yosemite I never had this issue. I could just close them.
Here the error message...

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. -
Hi there,
I'm working on a Director 11.5 video chat for 3 people. You shall see your webcam video as a little and the two you are connected with as a big video panel. So good so far, I managed to show my own webcam video without streaming it and managed to see one of the others as an incoming stream.
The problem is: as soon as there's a second script initiating a second InStream (no matter how I name it), only the one with the lower sprite number shows it's stream. When I disable the script for this lower sprite, then the second one is playing, so it can't be due to an incorrect script.
I already emilinated two misstakes which made it not working at all at the beginning:
First I tried to use the NetConnection object (for sending my own video stream, works fine) also for creating an input stream. That didn't work. It's a different scene where I set up and play the inStreams (I made the NetConnection object global). So now I set up a new NetConnection for each stream: one outStream and two inStreams.
First I also used only one swf member and made several sprites of it. This didn'Ät work at all, also using the same behavior for the two other-perople-players. So i copied ad pasted the swf and also the behavior. I also renamed every variable in the second behavior with a "2" at the end, just to be sure.
Then it worked at least - but still only for one inStream.
The architecure of my Director film is the following:
I've got two scenes. First scene is an input field to type your name and a "connect" button. Behind this button there's a behavior setting a connection to the server (by using a swf sprite which isn't visible yet) and sending my webcam video and name to the server. This part works fine.
(Picture shows scene 2)
Second scene consists of three swf sprites - one is to show my own webcam video directly from PC. This one already existed in the first scene, for I have to use a swf for setting up a NetConnection. The second and third swf sprites are connected to a behavior script which sets up a new connection (in exitFrame, with a bool variable "firsttime" to make sure it only happens once).
I also have two drop down field each below a partner chat swf. Here I show all people who are logged in at the server, it automatically updates. The one you chose in the drop down is the video you will see in the swf sprite above. Thid works fine (if it works with the inStream).
The script for playing the own webcam video is placed at the first frame of the second scene and only refers to the swf for my own video (which already occurs in scene 1). Well, that's all I think. I'll post the code for the two partner player swf here. Please have a look at it to find a misstake - or maybe again it's some strange Director behavior (like two sprites of one member didn't work) which I cannot think of...
Code for the behavior script of the partner swf for partner 1. The script for partner 2 is exactly the same, but every variable has a "2" at it's end.
global firsttime1
global gUserList
property gNetConn
property InStream
on exitFrame me
if (firsttime1) then
pSprite = sprite(me.spritenum)
gNetConn = pSprite.newObject("NetConnection")
gNetConn.connect("rtmp://212.122.56.2/flashcam")
InStream = pSprite.newObject("NetStream", gNetConn) put "InStream " & InStream
InStream.play(gUserList[1])
pVideoClip = pSprite.getVariable("VideoClip",FALSE)
put "pVideoClip " & pVideoClip
pVideoClip.attachVideo(InStream)
firsttime1 = false
end if
end exitFrame
on updateInStream aArg1, aArg2
-- that method is called by the drpdown script when some change occured
put "neuer Partner 1: " & aArg2
partner = aArg2
InStream.play(partner)
end updateInStream
on endsprite me
if not(voidP(InStream)) then
InStream.close()
end if
end endsprite
I'd appreciate every idea or help! Thank you!

How can I optimally stream data to disk at 5 MS/s on 4 channels using a PCI-6110?
I am using a PCI-6110 to acquire data streaming from a camera. Data arrives on all four analog input channels at 5 MHz. An A2D clock is attached to PFI8, also originating from the camera and operating at 5 MHz. Finally, there is a Valid-data signal from the camera that signals when the data stream coming in on the four analog channels is actual data (each Validate pulse is about 132 samples wide). This is attached to PFI0. Ideally, I would like to have a program that captures data at the full rate and is correctly synchronized with the Valid-data line. It should also be able to stream to disk for several seconds at least before pausing for the buffer.
Though I'm something of an inexper
ienced programmer, I have attempted programs both in LabView and C (using DAQmx) to resolve this, but I have experienced much slower behavior than I'd like. In LabView, this seems to be the result of slow streaming to disk, such that I have to pause and reset the task every frame (132x512 samples per channel). Using DAQmx in C, I have found it necessary to restart the task after every line (132 samples per channel) in order to correctly trigger from the Validata pulse. Both are far from optimal. I would appreciate any advice that those of you with more experience reading at very high rates from this card may have to offer.
Thanks,
Steven Israel
Duke UniversityI'm not sure if I fully understand your application, but maybe some of these hints will help.
First your streaming to disk rate is going to vary widely depending on your system. Sometimes using a faster processor helps, but most of the time using a faster hard drive will give you the best performance increase.
Second, writing less data will often have a dramatic impact in streaming to disk applications. If you're reading back scaled data, I would strongly recommend switching to unscaled or raw reads and storing off the scaling constants so you can scale the data off line. This could reduce the required streaming to disk bandwidth by a factor of 4 alone.
Third, since the 6110 is a 12 bit device, you can try compressing two 12 bit samples into one 24 b
it piece of data. This will allow you to store in three bytes what used to take four.
Last, you might consider using your signal on PFI0 as a pause trigger. Depending on the frequency of the pulses on your Valid-data signal, this could significantly reduce the required bandwidth of both the PCI bus and your hard drive. However, since the 6110 uses pipelined ADCs, you need to be careful if the time between valid data pulses is greater than one millisecond. This would violate the minimum sampling frequency of the board and the points in the pipeline that are returned after unpausing (3 in this case) might not be digitized at the full accuracy specification for the device. Because of the pipelining, you also need to be careful how you correlate the data. The first time you unpause for the Valid-data pulse, the first three points will be garbage points. The second and subsequent times you unpause, the first three points are really the last three points from the previous Valid-dat
a pulse. See the Device Considerations->Timing chapter in the NI-DAQmx Help file for more information on timing considerations with pipelined ADCs.
I hope this information helps. Good luck! -
According to William Stanek, in his Windows Server 2012 R2 Inside Out: Configuration, Storage & Essentials book, this is apparently possible: (pg. 615 - here it is on Google Books: https://books.google.ca/books?id=0IyfBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT819&lpg=PT819&dq=read+operation )
Integrity can be enabled when the system is not running on Storage Spaces. When
integrity is enabled and ReFS detects a checksum mismatch, ReFS logs an event and
fails the read operation by default. If you don’t want the read operation to fail, you
can configure ReFS to continue with the read operation. A related event will be logged
regardless.
So then how do I configure it to do that???
(And just to make it super-clear, I'm NOT using Storage Spaces, so there is no redundancy via mirroring/parity, and I'm not expecting any file repair - just detection of corruption. It's just a basic volume formatted with ReFS and
with integrity streams enabled, via format E: /fs:ReFS /i:enabled
For those who want more details, here's the situation:
I try to perform a read operation on a file with corrupted data (purposely done for testing using a low-level disk editor), I get a the following error message:
And an event ID 133 from ReFSv1 gets logged in the System log:
Clicking "Try Again" just brings up the same message, and clicking "Skip" skips the operation entirely.
This is indeed the correct default behaviour.
What I want instead is for the read operation to be allowed to complete, with corrupt data and all, and ONLY for the event to be logged. And according to William Stanek, this is supposed to be configurable somewhere - and after hours of searching, I haven't
been able to find anything.Hi Tommy,
>>How can I configure ReFS to NOT fail read operations when a checksum error is detected
We can use PowerShell command Set-FileIntegrity to configure this. The specific parameter for controlling this behavior is
-Enforce <Boolean>which indicates whether to enable blocking access to a file if integrity streams do not match the data.
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to as reference.
