Strong connection

Hi all,
I've got trouble with joining a member. There are already two members which talk to each other perfectly.
Can anyone shed light on this log entry?
FEINER: thread=Cluster, member=1: TcpRing: disconnected from member 2 due to transition to a strong connection
What is a strong connection?

Thanks Rob, so why is a disconnection forced for a strong connection? I think it's ok for a cluster to have a connection with a different machine ;-)
We've got two machines in development environment:
1. Server: Intel QuadCore, 2 GB RAM, 2x1 GBit (Teaming), 2 JVMs: DefaultCacheServer, MyCacheServer for loading data from database and inserting into cache
2. Workstation: Intel DualCore, 4 GB RAM, 1 GBit, 1 JVM: Client working on data in cache
Despite having GBit network cards, both are running on 100 MBit/s. In production there are more workstations querying the cache.
I see GCs in log of a JVM on the server when I start my desktop application:

I can see the "remote GC error messages" in server log start when I query the cache (see timestamps; query started at 12:36:06, error messages started at 12:36:10). I am using two MapListener without a filter etc. in my desktop application for acting on newly inserted keys.
My application works as followes:
1. DB query of a whole table
2. Server does calculations on data from 1.
3. Server inserts approx. ~100,000 entries in one key in cache (key "list" => list with entries)
4. The server inserts a key referring to a list entry from 3.
5. Client acts on that key and inserts an "answer" into cache
My opinion is that working on the large list causes many minor collections. Even if I query namedCache.keySet() for listing all keys in cache (in development there are only two keys) I see minor collections.
I also tried using -Xincgc instead of -XX:UseParallelGC and setting the size of young generation: -XX:NewSize=256m -XX:MaxNewSize=512m which slightly reduced minor collections.
Thanks,
-Ralf

Thats interesting. Sizing up the young generation to 512 MB stops minor collections, but:
Server log shows "communication delay":

Server shows no GC at all while showing all keys in cache (as I said above, that was causing GCs too):

No more GCs on my workstation.

I was able to get rid of GCs by sizing the young generation. But "communication delay" messages are logged when an application accesses the cache. I am curious about the "0 - 16 ms" delays, can this be due to network outages?
Thanks,
-Ralf

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If restarting doesn't help, reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't help, sign out in Settings>iTunes and App Store. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad, sign in again and try iMessage again.

Or is the graph allowed to lose its DAG property in the process?

Test while started in Recovery : if the problem persists, then it likely is a hardware issue.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) probably won't change anything, but you can readily do it before contacting the repairers.

  • I keep getting the following when I try to connect to Itunes Radio- "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later." I have an excellent strong connection

For over a week,I get the following message everytime I have tried to connect to ITunes Radio..."An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later."  My internet connection is excellent & strong & "LATER " has been over a week. Any help or suggestions?? It would be much appreciated, thanks

Somebody suggested clearing the Store cache.  I don't know why that would affect the radio.  Seems to have not worked for some, worked for a few or maybe they imagined it.  Many other posts about this if you browse the forum.
This is happening to some people some of the time in some places, but then not affecting people in other places, or in the same place at different times.  You try to guess what is going on.  Hasn't happened to me.  Maybe it's my iTunes 7.5, or maybe it's luck of the draw since I never use iTunes radio.

  • Web pages won't load but airport shows strong connection!

    help!
I have a wireless network set up with a wireless router transmitter (not apple). My wife's macbook works fine, but my son's imac has great difficulty loading pages even thought the airport icon at the top of the monitor says the signal is strong and internet connect says the status is connected. Web pages sometimes load fine, but about 80% of the time now, I get "safari can't find the server" or "firefox can't load the page" messages instead of a webpage (like apple or google). I don't even know where to start when trying to troubleshoot this problem. If anyone can steer my to a starting point to figure out this problem (or tell me how to fix it), I'd be extremely grateful! thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
Try a few simple experiments to check your signal strength.
On your wife's MacBook, hold down the option key and click on the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of the screen. Look for the Transmit Rate. Note this number.
Now do the same thing for the iMac. You will probably see a much lower number indicating that the iMac is not receiving a strong signal due to walls, construction materials and other interference. In this case, the only real solution will be to find a different position for either the wireless router or the iMac.
Another option might be to see if your wireless router signal can be extended. In almost all cases, you will need to look for a device that is from the same manufacturer as your router.
    Post back on your progress.

  • Verizon 890L Slooooow Even with Strong Connection

Even with 4-5 WAN bars, the device won't connect at more than 1xCDMA.  My client reports that if he holds the device in just the right place in his house (~5 miles out of town, I live in town) he can get a 3G connection.  We live in a small town in the high desert of north-central Oregon, so it would not be surprising if there was only one tower visible from our location.  His HP G60 had random problems with making a WiFi connection to the device.
I have updated the BIOS and all the drivers on his laptop.  My Thinkpad has never had any trouble making a WiFi connection, but suffers the same extreme WAN performance problems.
I can't seem to get the device to even check for a firmware update.  I have been through every option in both the device's menu, and its http GUI.  The device's menu has a "Software Update" option, but the only option on the menu is "Status," which seems to do absolutely nothing.other than pop up an EMPTY screen with Name and Status fields.

Sounds like an issue with the Jetpack and not with your computer.
First steps are to perform the standard resets and hope that the issue is temporary.  For a performance problem like the one you describe I would suggest removing the SIM card for around 15-30 seconds and trying again in an area that is known to have strong coverage.  The next reset would be to press and hold the Restore Defaults button while the device is powered on.  Between these two resets the Jetpack should be able to recover if the problem was temporary.
Anything beyond that should get called into VZW for servicing under the warranty.

  • Very slow Wi-Fi with strong connection

i have a problem, i'm not sure if im doing anything wrong. im not sure if it is my phone that is the problem or the wi-fi connection at my house or what. here it is, i have very slow wifi and sometimes i turn off the wi-fi and edge is faster! i want to address this problem myself because my iphone is unlocked and i voided the warranty. although google is very fast on wi-fi, my facebook page takes around 3 minutes to load with the stongest wi-fi connection. other websites are the same thing. google seems to be the only fast website on my wi-fi connection. i believe my iphone running on edge is faster. i havent compared yet, but it seems so. i have also tryed forgetting the network and connecting back to it with the password and nada. if anyone knows how to address this problem, please fill me in! much appreciated! thanks!

Go to Mac611.com, tap on 'iPhone-related Sites' scroll down to 'iPhone Network Test' and see what your speeds are on both EDGE and Wi-Fi. What readings are you getting?

  • My iPod loses it's strong wi-fi connection

I have a pretty strong connection (2-3 bars) to my network. But my Internet connection is still slow, and I regularly lose my connection completely. Then when I go to the settings app it shows that the signal is still strong. Why does my iPod 4th gen keep dropping the connection, and why is it so slow?

Try this first.  In Settings > WiFi: Turn wi-ff, then turn it back again.  If this does not work try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If you have never been able to connect and are using WPA security, make sure your password is correct.  If you are using WEP security, you're wasting your time as WEP is hackable in less than 30 seconds.  And the iPod often has problems with WEP.
In any case, if you can't get it to work at home, try it in a place with free wi-fi.  If it works there the problem is probably with your router (this can be the case even if your router works with other equipment).

  • Time machine can't find wireless device despite strong Wifi connection

Every time I try to set up time machine, whenever it tries to find a wireless device it says "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices. Make sure the Airport wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then rescan again." I already have a perfectly strong connection to my router so why does it keep saying that it can't find a wireless connection?

I have the very same problem. MB recognizes my 2TB Verbatim when connected directly via USB and Time Machine goes to work. When I connect the HDD to my router, my MB sees the HDD in Finder, but Time Machine can't find it ("Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices. Make sure the Airport wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then rescan again.").
@Pondini - this is not a time capsule, I have a HDD on my WiFi network.
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
You have two problems with this setup.
First, Apple doesn't support backing-up that way. See this Apple article: [Disks that can be used with Time Machine|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/15139.html].
Second, backups done locally (when the HD is connected to your Mac via USB) are placed in a Backups.backupdb folder at the top level of the drive. When they're done over a network (Ethernet or WIFI), that folder is inside a +sparse bundle,+ and you can't easily switch between the two.

  • IPad and Apple TV mirror intermittent yet wifi signal is strong with solid Internet connection

On my iPad, I like to be able to mirror everything to my Apple TV when there is company. Sometimes this is not a problem. When I select the icon for the menu to choose iPad or Apple TV, it comes up OK but I cannot always select Apple TV. It is intermittent and I cannot find the pattern. All other connections are solid and strong.

Connect up the ipad/iphone to the Seagate hdd (use the default settings to start with, then u can change name of network/password ect)This is an app for the seagate hdd that does this.
Turn on the AppleTV and then just usging the built in Menu go to Network, and then pick the network that has been set up on the seagate Hdd.
ALL this does let you do is, Mirror the ipad/iphone as there is no internet connection. but thats ok cause internet was not a must for me. if i want internet on it, i just connect it up to my Home network.

  • Brand new macbook pro cannot connect to wireless networks

The first time I called apple tech, they thought it was a problem with my internet provider. I've called 4 times now, and I'm still getting the runaround.
I have an old (2001) G4 sitting right next to my macbook pro which can see numerous wireless networks and connect to them all. A strong connection at that. However, my brand new (refurbished) Macbook Pro Intel etc,.... supposedly best computer ever made, . . . . can see the same wireless networks but has never been able to connect. As a student, I saved for a year to buy this notebook so I could work at cafe's & study with my friends. My friends with PC's can all connect to these wireless networks. My friends with older, less expensive notebooks can connect no problem. I have never been able to connect. Bought this peice of junk 2 1/2 months ago - only because I didn't want to be stuck at home anymore with my desktop. Stupid me to trust apple.
I wish I could get my $ back, but I'm now being told that it's 30 days too late. Before they told me it was a minor thing and some software update could fix it. I did as told. downloaded and installed their 10.4.8 thingy - deleted all the keychain stuff - nothing. same peice of junk.
Now they are telling me to go back to the genius bar where folks are just rude to me and tell me they can't help me becuase I bought a "refurbished" model that didn't even save me $25. What do you know.
Anyone having problems like this? Anyone out there who can help me?

    Okay,
I apologie for calling it a peice of junk. I know you all probably worship this machine. I'm just really frustrated. I noticed that this is a very common problem - though most of the posts identical to mine have dissapeared from apple.com - this well known defect is all over other discussion boards and websites like macdefect, etc,....
So, can any of you tech gods help me with this very well known, common problem that I haven't been able to fix with 10.4.8 upgrade?
Thanks for your time and assistance,
    -mcgrafx

  • Why does my macbook intermittently lose internet connection when I have internet service?

    Hello,
I have checked around on Apple forums as well as the wider internet. My situation is just a bit different than the other solutions I read about.
I have a MacBook, 10.6.8. I have an internet antenna that plugs into the modem, that I plug into my computer. What I have not found in the forums are solutions to an internet connection loss that happens with a hardwired internet connection, ie ethernet wire, not wireless.
I contacted my isp and I was told there is a very strong connection. The internet will cut out when I open another window or just at random times, maybe for 20 seconds. This is very irritating.
Skype and itunes run just fine even when the internet cuts out. I feel there is a problem with one or my of settings. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most often BitTorrent, iCloud or some other cloud-data application is involved in cases of mysterious bandwidth use by a Mac. If you use iCloud, uncheck at least Photo Stream and Documents & Data in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. If you use third-party network backup software, disable that. If you use a torrent client, remove it.
Otherwise, there's no easy way to monitor network usage per process using built-in tools. If you're an advanced user and you want to try, see the manual page for the nettop(1) shell command. It may or may not provide the information you're looking for.
The third-party products Rubbernet and Little Snitch are supposed to record network usage by processes. I can't vouch for them. Both were available as free trials, the last time I checked. I suggest you uninstall either one when the question has been answered.

  • Since upgrading my iTouch to 6.0 I can no longer connect to Express in my office. Others sitting beside me have no problem. What gives?

After I bought my iTouch, I set up a Wi-Fi network at my office. It worked great and I could connect from most all areas in the building. A couple months ago I upgraded the iTouch system to 6.0. Since then I have only been able to connect very near the office where the express is. Other people, sitting right next to me, can connect there iPads/laptops with no problems. At home, I get a strong connection on my MacBookPro but no connection on my iTouch sitting right next to it.
I since upgraded to 6.0.1 thinking that my issues had been noticed by others and a fix was available. No fix. Bummer!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
