Strong named DLL cannot be detected in Protect Mode of Reader X

Hi, all
I have a DLL created by C# 2.0. I used it as COM object in my plug-in of reader to communicate with 3rd-party application which is used as a host.
Now, I have issue about "strong named DLL cannot be detected in Protect Mode of Reader X".
If I don't make it as strong named DLL, it can be loaded in plug-in with help of white-list.
But there will be a "Class not registered" COM error thrown if it's a strong named DLL.
How to solve this issue? Thanks very much~
By the way, it works fine if I disable Protect Mode. But it's not good solution to disable Protect Mode always. I am painful of this issue

Hi,
I'm facing the same problem.
I wrote an very easy report. It works as intended, but when i set fillable='X' i get the error FPRUNX 001.
FP_GET_LAST_ADS_TRACE return following:
Begin operation:
Render, elapsed time = 16 ms.
#   End operation: Render, elapsed time = 89 ms.
#   Begin operation: UsageRights, elapsed time = 89 ms.
#   End operation: UsageRights, elapsed time = 97 ms.#
...and the error string of FP_GET_LAST_ADS_ERRSTR is:
ADS: Request start time: Wed Jul 01 14:44:26 CEST 2009(200.101).
Any idea what the problem might be?

  • How to add a non-strong-named .DLL to Assembly

I am trying to add a .dll file to assembly on a server (connected via RDP) for a WCF Service Application. When I try to add it in Visual Studio Command Prompt, it says "Failure adding assembly to the cache: Attempt to install an assembly without a strong
name." I tried signing the assembly in VS, but aside from toggling the signing and choosing the key file, every option is grayed out. And even then it's not considered strong named. Why are the options grayed out? Is there a way to add non-strong-named
DLLs to assembly? Otherwise, how do I sign the DLL?
Note: I am connected to a Sharepoint 2010 server using Windows Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2010. The project is called ListTasks2, as is the DLL. I have a project that has a similar naming -scheme and I was able to use GAC just fine for that DLL.

You need the source code to sign it. Do you have the source?

  • Protected Mode of Reader X does not work if explorer.exe is not a parent process [2008R2 RDS/TS]

We are running IE8 as a RemoteApp on Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services "Terminal Server". It has Reader X installed.
When opening linked PDF document, it shows the protected mode "fail" dialog.
If, instead, explorer.exe is launched as remote app, and ie8 is started from explorer,
opening PDF files in protected mode works.
This is regardless of settings, 32/64 bitness, whether iexplore is launched as remote app or
in full RDP session using "alternate shell:". If explorer is not parent of the process subtree,
    protected mode doesn't work.
What might be the issue, and is there a workaround that does not involve starting explorer.exe?

This problem is fixed in the latest Reader X update 10.1.

  • Printing problem in Protected Mode - Adobe Reader X

    Hello,
I have a PDF printer driver and Adobe Reader X. If I right click  on my PDF file and select the print option, the generated PDF file will  become ”gibberish”. I have checked the settings of the Adobe Reader X  and I have found the “protected” mode option on by default. If I disable  this option, the printed PDF file is printed correctly.
I have continued testing and have noticed when protected mode was  enabled the adobe temporary fonts have not been generated into the  temporary folder but when I disabled protected mode the adobe temporary  fonts have been created.
How can I use the Adobe X in protected mode to print to a PDF printer driver so the fonts are generated correctly?
    Thanks

    Hi, thanks for your support.
I am using Black Ice PDF printer driver
Issue is not happening for all PDF files. It seems only which contain temporary fonts and when protected mode is turned on, and when right clicking on the document and selecting the "Print" option.
On physical printer I could print ok.
How can I share the file for you?
    Thanks again.

  • Protected Mode of Reader X still doesn't work on Citrix

    Hi there,
    This is our environment:
    - Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard, 32bit
    - Citrix PS 4.5
    - Update to Adobe Reader 10.1 from 9.4.5 (but problem comes up with a clean installation as well)
As far as I can read from the release notes to Adobe Reader 10.1 Citrix is now supported in Adobe Reader 10.1 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.pdf , Page 5). But the software still doesn't start in protected mode, there comes up the well-known dialog of the disabled protection mode instead.
I know the document about troubleshooting the protected mode ( http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html ) but I am sure, that we're fulfilling each of the points, so Adobe Reader X should start normal.
    But it doesn't.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Phil

  • Issue with latest Adobe Reader 11.0.10 - Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to incompatibility with your system configuration.

Since updating to the most recent Adobe Reader v11.0.10, getting an Adobe Reader Protected Mode: Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due do an incompatibility with your system configuration.  Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected Mode disabled?

The solution I was looking for was to launch Adobe Reader in Protected Mode.
I could not identify issues preventing Protected Mode from starting.  What ended up working, was to do a complete uninstall, followed by a reinstall.  Now we can load Reader in Protected Mode.

  • Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode

I apologize if this is listed in the wrong category.
Recently, all users on our server started receiving a message: "Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected mode disabled?" The users are presented with 3 options:
    Open with Protected Mode disabled
Always open with Protected Mode disabled
Do not open with Protected Mode disabled.
All the users can click "Open with Protected Mode disabled" and the PDF opens fine. I know that I can disable Protected Mode but I would rather not have to disable a security feature.
I have read this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/protected-mode-troubleshooting-reader.html and none of the provided solutions seem to apply to us. I have tried a rebooting the server and uninstalling/reinstalling Adobe. Neither of these options worked. There is not an antivirus currently running on this server. We are not using Smart Cards. I have checked the Security permissions and they seem to be fine. I can not think of any recent changes to this server, but it has run just fine for years now.
    OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    Acrobat Version is 11.0.10
Is anyone aware of anything else that could cause this message? Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
That option is not there on my version though. I am using version 11.0.10

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

  • Adobe Protection Mode

I updated Adobe Reader to v 11.0 and now it will not open. The error message reads " Cannot open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with the system configuration". The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. This problem has not occured with prior Adobe versions and Windows 7 U. I removed all Adobe products and downloaded Adobe v 11.0 only and still no luck. Do I need additional Adobe files such as Adobe.Air?

    Hi CollinsHendry,
    Please verify with http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/protected-mode-troubleshooting-reader.html
and find if your system lies in incompatible configuration.

  • Reader 10.0.1 protected mode problems

I just upgraded from 10.0.0 to 10.0.1. (Windows 7 x64, SEP 11 RU6mp2 for antivirus) While reader 10.0.0 worked just fine, I cannot get 10.0.1 to open without disabling protected mode.  I have seen the same problem on another machine running Win2003 server r2 x64.

This appears to be caused by folder redirection/roaming profiles.  10.0.1
works if I log on locally.  Am I more secure using 10.0.0 with p
rotected mode or 10.0.1 without protected mode?

  • Adobe Reader XI protected mode problem

I downloaded Reader XI and went to open a pdf that previously worked with Reader.  But Adobe Reader XI won't open (says problem with "protected mode").  I can't open any pdf's either on my computer or on the internet at trusted sights.  Troubleshooting takes me to a page on fixes for Reader X. Not helpful!  Any ideas?  (I uninstalled and reinstalled and still won't work.)

  • Any known issues when programatically opening PDFs in Protected Mode on Windows 7?

    Hi all,
We are a small development team that produces a Windows application that generates medical reports using a third party PDF library (PDF Creator Pilot) that are then automatically launched using the recommended Adobe Reader.
I've come across a seemingly random problem with opening PDFs when Protected Mode is enabled, and I'm finding it hard to reproduce this field complaint so am wondering if there was any known workaround or if anyone has had similar issues.
The problem occurs when we try to programatically open the PDF by a Win32 system call as follows, "ShellExecute(NULL, "open", "some_file.pdf", NULL, NULL, SW_SHOWNORMAL);". In some cases we have complaints that nothing at all occurs when Adobe Reader should actually be launched, and sometimes the dialog as described in "http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/protected-mode-troubleshooting-reade r.html" appears. In all cases, if the users disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader the problem goes away. We've checked this troubleshooting guide and nothing in there seems to help our users so their problems persist.
It should be noted that this was observed in both Adobe Reader X and XI.
    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Chris.

    Thanks Pat!
I've created the same question on the SDK forum so if anyone has any answers please reply there as it could also help other users.

  • Adobe Reader XI Protected Mode WhitelistConfig

Adobe Reader XI Protected Mode is blocking a link in PDF. The link is to an internal document management system: HP TRIM.
If Protected Mode is disabled the link opens successfully.
If Protected Mode is enabled the link fails to open yet nothing is logged in AdbeReaderBroker.log to help identify what is being blocked.
    e.g. whitelistconfig.txt

What other troubleshooting steps can help identify what policy rule is blocking this link?
Further testing has identified that the embedded links worked with Protected Mode prior to Adobe Reader XI Patch 11.0.03.

Adobe Security Team provided a hotfix for this issue which will be included in the next quarterly release.
They also advised that the following registry value was required for the Trim:// url to function in Protected Mode:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cDefaultLaunchURLPerms]
    "tSchemePerms"=".....|trim:2"
