  • Struts tags versus JSTL tags

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to determine the performance and code generation differences between Struts and JSTL tags. Currently I have a very large JSP which is part of a Struts based application and it's teethering on the edge of the 'code too large for method' issue.
    Would replacing Struts based tags with JSTL tags reduce the amount of code generated in a jspService method for a JSP? For example replacing
    logic:equal or logic:match with c:if test="..."
    I would appreciate anyone opinion on this.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Thanks,
    We've already followed those guidelines. It's really more to do a decision by our functional design team who decided to combine the functionality of two pages into one, which is something we should have flagged initially.
    Now we are left with this task of attempting to optimise. It's not the
    perfect solution.
    There is heavy use of logic:equal/match tags throughout the JSP and my initial investigation is that a c:if test="..." seems to generate less
    lines of code because there are not as many attributes to set on the
    object.
    Would anyone agree with me on that?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Issue with JSTL ( c:import ) tags in Weblogic 9.2

    Hi,
    I'm trying to migrate a struts (1.2.9) application from Weblogic 8.1 to Weblogic 9.2. This application has JSPs with JSTL (1.0) tags.
    I have a JSP page that has multiple (around 7) c:import statements. When I launch my application, only the content from the last c:import statement is being displayed and rest of the c:import tags statements is simply ignored by Weblogic.
    I don't find any errors in the logs. When I comment out last c:import statement in this JSP then the content from the above c:import statement is being displayed. Only one (last one) c:import statement's content is being displayed in that whole page.
    This app worked just fine Weblogic 8.1.
    Any resolutions, hints, insights or workarounds on this issue is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mani

    Hello,
    You should not need to edit the wlp-light-web-lib.war weblogic.xml file. There are many places where other classes in wlp-light-web-lib are dynamically loading classes (using Class.forName()) from "higher-level" shared library modules (such as wlp-framework-full-web-lib), so I am certain that it works in general. There may just be an issue with how your shared library is set up, or how your webapp deployment descriptors are set up.
    So you mention that you have a shared library module containing your implementation of the AnalyticEventHandler; is this a .war file? And in the webapp you are trying to deploy this in, does your weblogic.xml explicitly include your shared library? If so, is your shared library being included before or after the standard WLP shared libraries?
    If you would like, posting your webapp's weblogic.xml may help to find the problem.

  • Struts tag library instead of JSTL

    My developers here are not very well versed with JSTL .
    Is it advisable to use the Struts tag library instead of JSTL.

    For JSTL you need two jar files in your web-inf/lib directory.
    standard.jar
    jstl.jar
    You only mentioned standard.jar - make sure the other is there as well.
    There are also some libraries requried. I think they were included with JDK1.4, but am not entirely certain.
    Check out the requirements on this page:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/doc/standard-1.0-doc/standard-1.0/GettingStarted.html
    Particularly those related to JAXP.
    I am think EOFException might be a trouble with parsing the c.tld file in the standard.jar
    Hope this helps,

  • Problem: Localisation with JSTL FMT and Struts

    Hello!
    I am working on my first project with JSP / Servlets including JSTL and Struts Tag Libraries.(plus tiles from JSTL)
    I am trying to use localised messages, to deploy a webshop in multiplle languages.
    I allready managed to accomplish that the messages are read out of a file ApplicationResources.en.properties and another one ApplicationResources.de.properties which will be chosen by the preferences of the browser (JSTL FMT:message tag).
    The strange this is, this only works the first time the servlets are compiled. After I opened the servlet once in my browser, I am allways seeing the message in that language that was used first, even if I set the the locale trough a link in the URL. I am using this code:
    http://localhost:8080/Inkrement18/buchladenseite.jsp?lang=en
    <c:if test='${param.lang == "de"}'>
    DE <fmt:setLocale value="de" scope="session" />
    <fmt:setBundle basename="ApplicationResources" scope="session" />
    </c:if>
    <c:if test='${param.lang == "en"}'>
    EN <fmt:setLocale value="en" scope="session" />
    <fmt:setBundle basename="ApplicationResources" scope="session" />
    </c:if>It seems to me, the servlet is compiled once, and afterwards the locale does not get checked anymore. Is that possible?
    When I delete the compiled servlets from the work directory by hand, my link to change the locale manually works once, till I delete the servlets again (the session does not get killed by deleting the servlets!)
    My webserver is Jakarta Tomcat 5.5.9 and IDE Is eclipse.
    I am not sure if it matters here, but the main page consists of 4 parts like banner, menu, main-page, footer which gets assembled trough "tiles".
    Most submenues like shopping basket / catalogue are action servlets, realised with struts, calling another .jsp page by forward.
    Any ideas are really apreciated - I have no idea where to look for the error!
    If you need any more input from my side, please let me know!
    Best regards
    Jan

    Hey Experts!
    Nobofy has a clue on this? I have really no clue where to start to look for the problem...

  • Struts - HTML:link tag with dynamic page attribute?

    I am trying to use the html:link but the page value is dynamic (resulting from the bean within the iterate tag). The code below doesn't work - error. Is there a way to use all Struts tags and make this happen. Any ideas?
            <logic:iterate id="myMenuForm" property="menuItem" scope="session" name="menuForm" >          <html:link page="<bean:write name="myMenuForm" property="menuDisplayName"/>">                  <bean:write name="myMenuForm" property="menuDisplayName"/>          </html:link>        </logic:iterate> Thanks,
    mlv

    Thanks for all your help. Based on all you your comments, it is now working
    and I thought I would provide some details about how I got it working.
    There are not that many examples within the Struts documentation.
    id = unique name for the object that can be referenced within the iterate
    tag.
    name = is the Bean, in this case it's the ActionForm, that contains the List
    object that will be iterated. In my case, I have a ActionForm that contains
    a List property that contains all the menu item rows from the databse.
    property = is the property name within the ActionForm that is the List
    object. Links to the getter method
    Within the <bean:write> tag you use the id name to get a handle on the final
    object from the iterate tag and the property is one of the property values
    within the bean that is contained within the List.
    So in this case I have a ActionForm bean that contains a List property that
    contains a collection of beans.
    FormAction - bean
    property menuItems of type List contains:
    - row 1 = bean (with a property of menuDisplayName)
    - row 2 = bean (with a property of menuDisplayName)
    - row 3 = bean (with a property of menuDisplayName)
    Here's the JSP code for the tag.
            <logic:iterate id="myMenuForm" name="menuForm" property="menuItem" >
              <html:link page="www.yahoo.com"/>
                      <bean:write name="myMenuForm" property="menuDisplayName"/>
              </html:link>
            </logic:iterate>Now I would like to make the <html:link> page attribute value dynamic from
    the iterate bean. Therefore, you can make the url for the link dynamic If
    you know how to do that, please feel free to provide some help.

  • JDeveloper editing JSP with Struts tags terribly, terribly slow!?

    I use JDeveloper 10.1.2 and I do not know the reason but it started to take 15min just to change/edit JSP containing Struts tags. RAM memory is 1GB and there is more than 0.5 GB available, but processor usage shows 100% allocated to JDeveloper!? As soon as I do even slight change in a JSP file JDeveloper starts some computations and I have no idea of what it is doing.
    What is JDeveloper computing? It seems it tries to produce some drop-down lists "helping" me to do the editing, add tags and instead I am spending days to just change one small JSP page!
    How can I stop and PREVENT JDeveloper doing ANY "help" during editing of ANY file?
    There must be an option to switch off whatever JDeveloper is doing?
    Many thanks,

    I did that but it is still very slow, it looks like Jdev is doing some intensive calculations whenever I click somewhere on JSP page with tags. Maybe this is related with my other question I posted before this one? Maybe JDev automatically searches for tag libraries it cannot find and copies them to /WEB-INF directory? (other IDEs used in same environment, like Eclipse and IntelliJ, and they do not have this problem)
    Some other strange things: struts-config.xml seems not integrated with CVS from JDev (other files like tiles-config.xml, web.xml etc. are integrated, I can right click and get CVS info on particular file, except struts-config.xml). When I want to check in/out struts-config.xml I have to do it with external tool like WinCVS etc., cannot do that from JDev!

  • Help! Problem with Struts tag html:errors/

    Hi everybody,
    In my JSP page called addUser.jsp, i have the different Struts Tag
    <html:errors/>
    <html:form action="/addUser" focus="firstName">
    </html:form>
    I have of course the ApplicationResources.properties file with differents Struts properties:
    errors.footer=</ul><hr>
    errors.header=<h3><font color="red">Validation Error</font></h3>You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:<ul>
    errors.ioException=I/O exception rendering error messages: {0}
    and an other one:
    error.fieldsNeeded=<font color="#FF0000">Some fields are missing.</font>
    when I call the addUser form, my JSP page display:
    null Some fields are missing. null
    Have u any suggestion about my prob?
    tx a lot
    s.

    Hi,
    can u post the java code where u are actually adding the error to the action errors. may be there is something wrong with that. I dont see any problem with the jsp or the applicationsResources.properties.
    Thanks

  • Help: OJSPC can not compile the JSP with struts tag

    Hi,
    I am trying to precompile the JSP page with EAR package but OJSPC can not parse the Struts tags.
    I always get oracle.jsp.parse.JspParseException:
    Error: org.apache.struts.taglib.html.MessgesTei while reading TLD /WEB-INF/tld/struts-html.tld
    My OC4J version is 10.1.3.2 and I did tried putting the struts-taglib.jar to /opt/oracle/product/app10g/j2ee/home/jsp/lib or /lib/taglib
    but still do not work.
    Can anyone tell me how to configure the OJSPC and let it support customerized taglibs?
    Thanks a lot!

    This is a new problem with jdk1.4 when compiling with tomcat.
    The solution is to ensure that any classes in WEB-INF/classes are in a package structure and the relevant jsp calls the same using the package name.

    1) The URI you are using suggests that you
    removed/copied the tlds into the WEB-INF directory,
    and that your web.xml uses them. You should not do
    this. The tlds are in the JSTL jar files. By
    maintaining the proper URI, the one defined in the
    JAR, you will be sure to be using the proper version
    of the TLD and tag library.Thanks, I must have missed this important bit while scanning the docs. It's probably an old feature I've never investigated - so much to read and do :-)
    >
    2) Outputting the ${scope} string instead of a
    representation of the scope object suggests that EL
    is not being interpreted. This may be because you
    are using an old version of the web descriptor
    (web.xml) xmlns, or because you are using a non RT-EL
    version of JSTL.Yep, after I fixed my web.xml things started working.

  • How to prepare Custom tag with scope as  session  like Struts tag

    Hi
    All Struts tags having the feature of Automatic Scoping.
    Automatic Scoping: Struts tags check all contexts (namely page, request, session, application) and use the first instance found. Developers do not have to explicitly "retrieve" objects from a particular scope. They may, however, specify a context.
    same as like struts tag I want to preapre 'select custom tag'.which will retrieve its previous selected value automatically and display.And one important thing is I dont want to set the selected value of custom tag in session expicitly.I mean the custom tag it self should take care to set the session vale and retrieve the sesion value and display like Struts tag . For struts select tag we wont set any selected value in session though it will retrieve the previous value and display when scope of form = session

  • Struts-JSP with custom field rendering

    If I have an ADF/JSP in a struts framework and I have built some data pages with a default set of entity attributes being displayed, is there any JSTL/struts tags that can let the application at runtime decide if a column/field should be displayed?
    kind of like render=false for uix I guess?

    the attributes are displayed using c:out tags from jstl, so you could put the JSTL <c:if> or <c:when> tags around it to make the display of the attribute conditional.
    Hope this helps,

    Has anyone had this problem before?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
