Stuck on start up screen. Resetting pram or safe start don't help

MacBook Pro with snow leopard won't start. Stuck on startup screen. Gear just keeps spinning. Tried resetting pram and tried safe start put nothing works. Help.

Imaclate2012,
boot from your Snow Leopard DVD, and run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu in the menu bar. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it reach the login screen now?

  • My White Macbook is stuck at the loading screen, and disk utility, safe mode doesn't work either. What should I do?

I went on vacation a few days ago and in El Salvador, they have this mobile broadband sticks. Well, I was using one until it gave me a network error. After that, it shut down my computer entirely. The first time it happened, I didn't think much of it. I took the battery out and put it back in for it could work. It happened another two times, and after the third time, my MacBook stays stuck at the loading screen, and it will take 5-10 minutes on that screen, before it shuts down, or it wouldn't turn on at all. I've tried booting into safe mode, but it appears to not boot into it. I've tried resetting the Pram, and using disk utility, but that still won't work. I don't know what else to do to make it boot into  OS X  Lion.
I'm an AP student, and the majority of my work is in that computer, and it is very important! What can I do? Not only that, but I enter school in a few weeks and I need the AP work by the time I enter.
What can I do? Can someone help?
    Thanks

    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • HT1379 Holding down cmd-option-p-r opens utilities instead of resetting pram on iMac. Can anyone help?

    Hi!
As seen on  another discussion I am not the only one that experiences slower inter tenet after upgraded to Lion. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3228040?start=0&tstart=0
Some suggested that resetting PRAM is the solution, so following the apple support instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 I tried to hold cmd-option-P-R keys while starting my iMac. This should just reset the PRAM and restart the computer. Instead, it opens Mac OSX Utilities, so I have to say that promblem(s) not solved....
    Could anyone help?
    Thanks!

As X423424X said you need to hold them down during/after the boot chime/startup sound. Chances are you've got a wireless keyboard, the Bluetooth module on the iMac activates only after/during the chime.

  • TS3048 No bluetooth whatsoever on Macbook Pro 10.6.8, resetting PRAM and SMC does nothing. Help?

Bought a wireless Magic Mouse today, was real pumped to go home and use it. When I turned my computer on, there was no bluetooth whatsoever to connect to. I read the forums for solutions, tried resetting PRAM and SMC. Neither worked. Let me know what I can do.

If the HDD will boot your MBP externally but not when installed in the MBP, that usually indicates a bad connection.. Either the connecting plug is not seated properly, ot the connecting cable is loose or faulty.  Open the MBP and check very carefully for those conditions. To repair or replace connecting cable is not an expensive repair, even at an Apple store.
    Ciao.

  • Have reset PRAM, now account passwords don't work

After my Macbook froze and I forced it shutting down it came up pwith the neverending twriling symbol but not loading up.
I looked up online and found the advice to reset the PRAM.
Then it came back to our normal starting page with the 2 accounts to login to, but both passwords are not working anymore.
    What can I do?
Will this fault now reoccur or is this a fluke? I don't feel like resetting the PRAM every now and then...
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Reset your admin password.
Boot to your Lion Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. Select your username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password. Restart the computer from the apple menu.

  • Will resetting pram and nvram on Mac osx help download problemss?

I have a new imac which I play Sims 3 on.  The game plays really well but I am unable to download content from the official EA exchange website.  When I try to do this by clicking on the link everything freezes and I get the spinning rainbow curser.
To troubleshoot this I have uninstalled, reinstalled and added latest patch.  I have tried safari and firefox browsers.
A person from EA help said to reset the PRAM and NVRAM.  I have been told how to do this, but am a bit worried as it sounds a bit extreme?  The imac is only 3 days old and I don't want to break anything

Phew problem solved!  Instead of using Safari I had to use Firefox.  But then I had to select some boxes...I did not do that the other times!
If anyone else has that problem the answer is
    Open firefox
    -firefox
    -preferences
    -Applications
Then scroll down to Sims3 and select Use The Sims3 (default)
I have no idea what it all means but it works.

  • I went away for a week and shut my MacBook Pro down. Since being back it has been super slow so I decided to restart it. Now it gets stuck at the white screen with the apple and spinning circle. HELP!!! I tried restarting over again and it didnt help.

Sometimes it will stay at the apple screen and sometimes it just shuts back off. The battery is fully charged.

I'm pretty sure it's mountain lion. Neither of your links worked tho, but thanks for trying! I'm new to Macs and only really know the basics of how to use it. When I power on and hold the option key I can chose to recover my Mac. What will that do? Will I lose pictures and stuff? I just went to Mexico and all my pics are on there and I'd hate to lose them, also lots of pics of my little boy.
Hmmmm, they are both working for me.   What happened when you clicked on the links?  Any error messages?

  • Macbook Pros display blinks to blue, icons change size, resolution changes and cant reset. Anyone else have this and have a definitive idea of the cause? End up running diagnostics and resetting PRAM and SMC to resolve but why? Thanks.

We have had several (7-10 recently) macbook Pros start this issue. The screen will jump from regular to blue, the background image will go away and it will be replaced with a blue screen, the icons change size and the screen resolution changes. Someimtes the users name field on the login screen will fly in from off screen... run diagnostics (AppleJack, Disk Util) and reset PRAM and SMC and sometimes this helps but wanted to know if there was a definite reason for this or a better resolution to the problem?
    Thanks all
Macbook Pros are all newer (some only a month old) Unibody models running Snow Leopard and Lion

AppleJack has been discontinued, so you should uninstall that.
I'm suspecting something in software across all machine or a security breach as the primary cause of your problems.
Wipe and install everything fresh, firmware update the router, change passwords, new software form original sources, etc.

  • Resetting PRAM Messed Up My Mac!! :(

Noticed a couple of problem's after resetting mu PRAM. After I reset my PRAM my subwoofer no longer works as it did before I reset my PRAM and when I power up my Mac Pro Tower it stars and then when it's starting it chimes and does another "restart".
Before I reset my PRAM it would just start up once and not restart. What's going On? And what is NVAM? Do I need to reset that too?
    Please help.

Ok, so resetting PRAM and NVRAM are done at the same time, so in that case I did it and that's when this problem started. Loss of Subwoofer and Computer chime and restart after powering upp the computer.
Anyone got any idea what's going on here? This is getting frustrating!

  • How can/do I compeletely uninstall/delete unwanted "Web Developer Extension" that was automatically installed on my computer without permission when I reset Firefox in safe mode?

Reset Firefox in safe mode. Clicked 'Help', then "Restart with Add-ons disabled"
After restarting, Checked "Reset all preferences to Firefox default"
When done, found three new Tabs, one asking if I wanted to continue previous session, a second from Firefox, saying "Welcome to Firefox"
And a third with the heading, "Web Developer Installed"
Clicking on Tab took me to: http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/installed/11/ saying "The Web Developer Extension has been successfully installed"
The new website, which also asks for donations, doesn't look related to Firefox. Regardless, NO ONE ASKED MY PERMISSION to install
AM CONCERNED ABOUT UNWANTED EXTENSION AND WHAT ELSE IT MAY DO WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT.
I DO NOT WANT Chris Pendrick's "extension" on my computer, but don't know how to completely delete/uninstall.
